It's a t8 or t9 security bit btw, I got the top two out with a regular T8, but the bottom two and middle needed a T9 Security bit. All five faceplate/backplate screws in the controller I disassembled were T8 security fasteners. The T8 is only good for the middle screw on my One S controller. The others require something bigger. These requires SECURITY Torx bits (they have a cannulated hole in the driver). I don't believe the iFixIt branded driver is cannulated but you can buy a set of bits from DeWalt DWAX200 which is overkill but has what you need. Ok guys, just found that a thumb tack fits perfectly into the small hole on the plastic arm that holds the thumb stick to the control module. Filed the thumb tack off so I was left with the small steel pin, gorilla glue the pcs back using the thumb tack pin for reinforcement. Waiting for glue to set up well and see how long that lasts for. Maybe saved 80 bucks. maybe not: I try and post the results if I remember. Ok, glue dried, been playing FC4 for about 20 min, and no problems so far. Microsoft has not released any official specifications on the dimensions of the final box, but extrapolating from the sizes of known components (principally the USB port), Xbox One is approximately 34x26x8cm - more set-top box than console, and noticeably larger than the launch version of the Xbox 360. Despite the near-final hardware present at E3, the conditions made it impossible for the any kind of audio testing to be carried out on-site, but developers working with the hardware tell us that in its idle and low-activity states, the unit is entirely silent and you can barely feel any heat being output from the unit's vents. Indeed, we're told by one development source that prototype versions of the hardware - which use the same chassis as the final retail unit - didn't have working power lights, and that it was almost impossible to tell whether the console was in operation or not unless it was hooked up to a display. It's a claim we're looking forward to testing when we're hands-on with the console. Wired's photography of the Xbox One internals shows that airflow won't be a problem. Clearly some level of investment has gone into the cooling assembly for the AMD processor - the fan seems to be almost as large as the slot-loading Blu-ray drive. Our sources say that Xbox One is expected to remain almost entirely silent in standby and during its media functions, with fan noise only noticeable during gaming when the AMD processor is really being put through its paces. Even here, we should prepare for a much more pleasant aural experience compared to the current-gen consoles - and not just because the optical drive will be inactive during gameplay. The Xbox One version runs at lower frequencies and has two fewer compute units. AMD's Jaguar CPU architecture is also highly energy efficient - it's designed with tablets in mind. Even factoring in the DDR3, ESRAM and custom silicon, we should expect see a complete system power draw that's a world away from the 'power at all costs' approach to the launch versions of the Xbox 360 and PS3, which used in the region of 170-200W. To illustrate just how far power efficiency has come since the current-gen consoles arrived, our "target Xbox One" PC test rig with an overclocked 4.3GHz i7 and underclocked Radeon HD 7850, consumed 220-230W playing Crysis 3. Perhaps the Xbox One's power efficiency sounds too good to be true, especially when rumours not so long ago painted a very different picture of hot and loud Durango development hardware. Our sources concur that the February/March dev kits were indeed very loud indeed, but it wasn't due to over-heating - quite the opposite in fact. The thermal control algorithm - which monitors the heat output of the major chips on the motherboard and adjusts fan speed accordingly - simply wasn't implemented in the developing OS, and so to avoid damaging the hardware, the fans were set to 100 per cent all the time. This was resolved by a software update back in March that brought Xbox One to its current stealth-like state, and our understanding is that final development hardware - which is a complete match for retail silicon - started rolling out to developers early in July and remains extremely quiet. The ASCII-inspired Durango logo you see on this page - which presents when the development hardware boots - has been swapped out for the Xbox One logo in the new development hardware, accompanied by a very 360-like animation. The launcher screen you see here has also changed beyond recognition. We see account sign-in, settings and account picker options alongside Internet Explorer. The less obvious selectables are for the Pixie performance analysis tool and a bunch of Kinect stuff. These consist of what is probably a firmware update for the camera, the general debug NuiView which displays the various Kinect feeds and finally VgbView which shows camera inputs and skeletal tracking. Meanwhile, the background Xbox One software is nearing completion, and one of the key goals is making gameplay extremely fast to access. In an internal post-mortem of the Xbox 360 that helped shape the direction of Xbox One, one of the key problems Microsoft engineers wanted to address was the lack of immediacy in current-gen console gameplay, where even the most family-friendly titles can take up to three minutes to load. A key plus point mobile games hold over console is the speed with which casual users can play, and it's an advantage that next-gen console is going to have trouble competing with. Despite moving away from optical discs and onto hard drive for games, filling up multiple gigs with data is still going to take time. We're told that addressing load times is a key concern, but another approach is to retain game states in RAM while the unit is inactive, similar to the way that you can return to a PS Vita game days after you last played it. The entire contents of the memory are preserved, and the unit wakes up immediately, allowing you to dive back into the game. It's an approach that PS4 also utilises, but our Microsoft sources genuinely believe that the TV integration elements set it apart, and that once you have experienced what it's capable of you can never go back. Instant restart is a key feature, but in the here and now we can't help remaining unconvinced about the focus on the TV integration elements of the Xbox One operating system. Our sources suggest that internally there is a great deal of frustration within Microsoft that the message about instant access never got across, and that the focus now is on Gamescom in August to get it right. G4Z is correct. in some countries the warranty laws are much different. Im located in the us so me and everyone else only has 90 days worth of coverage on all things like controllers headsets batteries and so on. It sucks but 90 is better than 30 days thats for sure but issues usually happen after the 6-8 month mark so that 1 year warranty the eu gets would be a huge help to us americans. Oh well. Well I got mine repaired for free because I live in the UK and having a 90 day warranty is against the law here (and in the rest of the EU). That being said, why hasn't this design flaw in the bumpers been fixed yet, my elite controller was a revision 004 and only 5 months old and the bumper broke from normal use. There are hundreds of posts online about it and it's simply not a matter of if your controller will break, but when. This needs to be fixed, if my replacement also breaks within 5 months I will also be returning that for repair. Maybe MS can do themselves a favour and actually resolve this issue properly. Also not happy that it's taking a month to turn around the repair. my elite controller still working great, but i would love to get some new thumb sticks cause they are all worn out, and paddles cause I lost them. My 1st "Elite" controller (came with the elite console) the grips started peeling and falling off after about 8/9 months. Had to call support twice, but had the controller replaced under the console's warranty. About 8 months after getting the 2nd one, the grips started peeling again, but kept playing with it. The inner grips (under the bottom paddles) started peeling and then the right bumper stopped working. Left a 1 star review on the store page, was told to contact support and was ultimately told they wouldn't replace it again - go buy a new one. Why would I buy another clearly defective product especially at that price? ThenLB RB buttons are connected and that snaps easy. It happened to mine with in a month. I'm on my second elite controller as well. Got sent a new one after the first one had major drift issues even past my guarantee. Unfortunately after 3 months my new controller has the same issue as the first and Microsoft says they can't do anything about it because the first one was a courtesy replacement and had no guarantee on it. So, thank you Microsoft for sending me a defective controller. This controller is a joke. Terrible quality control. Both analog sticks became very loose within 2 months. The left started drifting up very badly and eventually wouldn't register when I pushed up. Was just out of warranty when I contacted customer service. the guy said I'm out of luck buy a new one. so i'm stuck with a broken $150 controller. I've never had an issue with any other Xbox controller. My original Xbox, 360, and stock Xbox one controllers all still work fine. I've read numerous other instances of this happening. Along with the bumpers falling out and grips peeling off. It's a joke Microsoft won't fix this issue or even address it. Top it off with a joke of a warranty and no support. I had an Xbox one X pre-ordered but after dealing with this joke I promptly cancelled. I'm on my second controller, it's not even 3 months old, and it's not even under heavy use or abuse and the trigger is firing when left stick is clicked. I've reset the device, made sure the left stick click is not mapped to anything else, and still have the issue. Ive had to replace my bumpers TWICE and the rubber grip started to peel off. ordering replacements off amazon is hit or miss. ITS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Unbelievably bad quality for the price. I feel cheated. 8 months old..RB broken. and the retailer (Emag Romania) 2 years guarantee is useless for this kind of problem. repair cost 153$ :))))))) very low quality product. I don't recommend it..nice matterials,nice sticks,paddles but if doesn't work is garbage. I agree guys. it blows! But like i tell people in the same situations as u. its cheaper to get your controller fixed than it is to replace it with a brand new one. Not to mention you will be left with a brick that could be used again for a few bucks. I have broken the LB TWICE while playing Halo 5 and Rocket League. The second one broke within 2 months. Should have to fix the rubber coming off the handles and should be offer free under warranty and global. Saviormoney - its not so much that we r hard on our controller. Things like drifting can come from game that use the l3 and r3 buttons alot to do things like crouch and run. Those put alot of stress on the internal analog stick and do the most wear to it causing drifting. I do agree that alot of controller get beat up from hard use though. Man, y'all are HARD on your controllers. Ive had mine since day one and the only issue I have had is the rubberized grip on the left side starting to peel off. The controller itself is tip top.
