So apart from the obvious storage difference, is there any other differences between the two models? Such as the performance or anything else, such as exclusive features to the new model? If the main difference is the memory, then it would be easier for me to just get the old model and expansion memory. Good question, I know the new 1TB PS4 has been said to be quieter, lighter and more efficient compared to the 500GB versions. Not sure if the same applies to the Xbox One, but I'd be surprised if all they added was more memory without tweaking a few things. Having said that the Xbox One is already whisper quiet (mine is at least) and you should have no problems if you choose to go with the 500GB one. If it were my hard earned cash I would get me the cheapest I can find while I save to get me a monster sized external HDD. As far as we know it's just a bigger HD. I'm sure some details would've surfaced by now if it had other changes to it (like PS4). Pretty sure there is no internal difference besides the extended HD. Regarding the machine, the differences between Xbone models are answered in the title of this thread. Doesn't the 1TB console come with the new controller? The one with the 3.5" headphone jack? Doesn't the 1TB console come with the new controller? The one with the 3.5" headphone jack? Yes that is correct I believe. I've owned both, having picked up the 1tb model about a month ago (got a ridiculous deal). As far as I can tell the only functional differences are the larger internal HDD and the updated controller (better bumpers and 3.5mm jack). There are a few cosmetic differences as well. The left side of the console is matte, as opposed to glossy like the 500gb model. As well, the chrome colored trim around the disc drive found on the 500gb is black on the 1tb model. @thecouchpotater : Interesting, thanks for sharing your first hand experiences with the console. From what i understood, these new 1TB PS4 models are only available in Japan, for now. Those same 1TB models which are available in europe are the same as 500GB ones, the only difference is storage size. Not important to OP but it`s worth mentioning. @alex839 : Is there a link to this information? That's interesting, because they said they would ship these new 1TB consoles to Japan and Europe first before anywhere else, so I'd imagine pretty much all the new 1TB PS4's offer these improvements. If not that would seem pretty stupid, no? @BattleSpectre : Here`s the link mate: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/sony-announces-a-1tb-ps4-and-one-that-s-slightly-lighter-1297405. @alex839 : Is there a link to this information? I certainly hope the revision to the PS4 hardware makes a difference as far as the noise goes. I've had two PS4's which were both several times louder than the three Xbox One's I've owned. I've tried everything short of case modding or water cooling to quiet them down to no avail. Definitely my #1 complaint with the PS4. Xbox One S Consoles. Product Features. Microsoft has released a new Xbox, although it’s not exactly a new console. The Xbox One S is a subtle upgrade to the existing Xbox One, rather than a proper successor. Don’t be fooled, though, because it has more than a few surprises in store. While the Xbox One S is deep down the same console Microsoft released in 2013, there have been significant changes. It’s far slicker and prettier, fixing many of the original console’s aesthetic issues. It also adds 4K and high dynamic range (HDR), which means your games and videos can make the most of the latest TVs. It doesn’t offer the big graphical bump of the PS4 Pro. Nor does it benefit from the major horsepower boost of the next-generation Xbox One X. But what it does have may make it the best-selling console of 2016: it’s the most affordable UHD Blu-ray player on the market. The Xbox One S is the only console to play 4K Blu-rays. This could make the Xbox One S a surprise hit with movie fans on a budget, who are looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy 4K content. It could help rocket 4K Blu-ray sales too, in the same way the Sony PS3 did with standard Blu-rays. What’s more, it’s actually a decent UHD Blu-ray player. Xbox One S – Design and Controller. The Xbox One has had a total makeover, and it’s a huge improvement. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed what the “S” stands for, but we’re taking a guess at “slim”. The case is 40% smaller, which makes the Xbox One S only a little bigger than a PlayStation 4, and smaller than the dinkiest of mini-ITX PCs. This is particularly impressive given that the power supply is now integrated. No longer will you need to find extra space to squeeze in a massive power brick on the side. It’s also possible that S is for “sexy”. Suddenly an Xbox is the most attractive thing in my AV rack, and that’s not something I ever expected to write. The chunky air conditioner-style grilles have been replaced with a subtle pinhole design. The original’s glossy black plastic, which was a dust magnet and suffered scratches way too easily, has also been ditched. The Xbox One S is matte all over, and has a Stormtrooper chic thanks to its white with black accents. I like it, but some may find a bright white box too conspicuous. I’m sure it won’t be long before other colours appear; there’s already a limited edition blood red Gears of War 4-themed version on the way. Sign up for the newsletter. Get news, competitions and special offers direct to your inbox. There are plenty of less obvious tweaks too, but they’re welcome nonetheless. The power switch is now a physical button, which is a lot less susceptible to accidental activation than the Xbox One’s touch-sensitive offering. There is a USB port and a controller-pairing button at the front, where before they were hidden away at the side. Can the new Xbox One please stand up? Yes it can. The old Xbox One could only be placed flat, but the One S can be flipped over onto its side. You’ll need a plastic base to hold it up for ventilation purposes. This comes bundled with the 2TB edition, but otherwise it’s sold for an extra £20. The controller has been tweaked, too. It feels half way between the basic Xbox One pad and the super-expensive Xbox One Elite Controller. It retains the ergonomic shape of the previous model, but the rear now benefits from a more grippy texture. Apparently, exchangeable colour covers are an option too. I’m not particularly bothered about pimping up my controller, but I’m a fan of the added traction. I played Star Wars: Battlefront plenty during testing, and I found the controller upped my game. The finish made it a little easier to maintain a stable grip while fighting rebel scum, and my accuracy improved. I died less in manic moments, where a quick combat roll can make all the difference. The thumb sticks are made of a new material, supposedly more capable of withstanding punishment. Only time (and abuse) will tell how tough it is, but I didn’t feel any difference in use. As for power, the pad works on AA batteries. They last a good while, so I don’t mind them. Some people prefer the Sony PS4 controller’s built-in battery approach. It may be more environmentally friendly, but the battery has proved to be poor and I’m forever having to plug it in. I wish Microsoft would ship controllers with its “Play and Charge” kits – it would be a good compromise. Thankfully, Microsoft has finally added Bluetooth functionality to the controller. This won’t be a big deal to Xbox users, but will be a godsend for PC gamers looking for a decent gaming pad. Now PC gamers can use Xbox controllers without shelling out for an Xbox USB Wireless Controller Adapter.

Still have a question? Ask your own! What kind of gamer are you? Do you play games one (or a few) at a time all the way through and then move on to others when you’re finished? If so, a 500GB drive would probably work for you. If you don’t play that way, the 500GB may fill up very quickly. Many games are BIG as others have pointed out, and many games must be installed, so even if you don’t download games you’ll still need a lot of space. For example, listed below are my top five space hogs; I own physical copies of all of these except for Dragon Age: Inquisition: Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited 79.49GB. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 67.51GB. Dragon Age: Inquisition 48.45GB. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY 36.90. If you think 500GB is too small, you can either buy a system with a 1TB drive or replace the 500GB hard drive yourself with something larger. Sony fully supports the second option, and even provides instructions on how to do this on their website. My husband and I recently swapped out the 500GB drive for a 2TB drive. It wasn’t difficult and I am very happy with my new abundance of space. In other languages. The price will reduce on the 500GB version and the new one will settle in at the old one's price range. 1) The last of US - 48GB. 2) The Witcher 3 - 35GB (approx) 3) MGS V : TPP - 35GB (approx guess) 4) Batman Arkham Knight - 50 - 60GB. I’d recommend you first figure out if you’re really going to take advantage, or require, extra storage. If you’re going to purchase a good quantity of game titles (at least 6 or 7), then you’ll most likely require more than the 500GB. My recommendation, if you are going to up the capacity, is to get the 500GB version, and also purchase a 2TB laptop hard-drive to swap out and an enclosure for the 500GB hard-drive you’ll be pulling out of the PS4 (so you can use it as an extra external HDD). Ideally this should be done after initializing the PS4, but before you install any games into it (to avoid having to back-up your game saves and other data). The only thing you’ll need to do would be to download the PS4’s latest firmware into an external USB device in order to install the PS4 firmware and operating system onto the new hard-drive once that’s installed. This same procedure is something I’m planning on doing as soon as I save up the cash to get that 2TB hard-drive… I have one digital game and three other games installed and my system is telling me I have about 200GB of free space left. The only other app I have installed is Netflix. Xbox One S 1TB and 500GB console UK price, release date and FIFA 17 bundles revealed. Microsoft’s slimmed-down Xbox One S is now official. Here’s where to buy it, including all the best deals and cheapest bundles for the 500GB, 1TB and 2TB Xbox One S now it’s started shipping and is set to release in the UK shortly – plus the hottest bundles. As expected, the Xbox One S was unveiled not long ago, and Microsoft’s new slimmed down console has proven immensely popular with gamers – so much so that it’s been nigh on impossible to order one, especially here in the UK. We recently learnt that the intermittently available 2TB Xbox One S console was an exclusive launch edition, which made the fact that we knew little to nothing about the UK availability of the 500GB and 1TB consoles. Some light has now been shed, with Microsoft announcing over at Gamescom in Germany that the UK and Europe will see the less capacious One S machines released on September 22, with the 500GB Xbox One S priced at £249 and the 1TB version selling for £299. Microsoft also revealed that a FIFA 17 bundle would form part of its initial offering, which can only be a good thing, though further details are still scant – other than the price and release date, we haven’t heard any additional pre-order details. How to Buy the Xbox One S – Best UK Deals. Limited stock and high demand of the Xbox One S has most of the usual go to suppliers as currently out of stock of the console. We’re still waiting to hear more about availability of the 500GB and 1TB consoles, but right now a few retailers have the 2TB Xbox One S back in stock, including the eagerly anticipated Gears of War 4 Limited Edition hardware. As of August 16, that’s available to reserve from GAME and Argos for £400 – which actually isn’t that bad of a buy when you consider that unscrupulous third-party sellers are flogging the 2TB variant for up to £500 without a game, let alone the sweet custom designed console. Alternatively, Zavvi has a 2TB Xbox One S console sans game on the block for the normal £350 asking price, and it’s apparently shipping immediately: A variety of other UK retailers have also offered the One S in the past, so it’s worth checking out the following outlets as well, unfortunately many outlets are now listing the console as out of stock: How to Buy the Xbox One S – Best US Deals. The Xbox One S is similarly sought after in the States and expected shipping dates have been appropriately adjusted – unless you staked your claim early on and pre-ordered, you’re unlikely to be getting one in the immediate. Sign up for the newsletter. Get news, competitions and special offers direct to your inbox. But the deals are arguably a bit better over the pond and you can choose from all three storage models, provided you’re happy to wait. The best value is probably the pair of new Xbox One S bundles just announced by Microsoft in the US. These feature a 1TB console, new release game or collection of classics, and will set you back at most $350 – that’s about £265 before VAT and not adjusting for the current state of the UK economy. Choose from either Madden 17 or the cheaper Halo Collection package: The Xbox One S is also still available from Amazon US in all its variants: Xbox One S in brief. The main differences between the Xbox One and the Xbox One S are that the latter is 40% smaller and supports both 4K and HDR video (but not 4K gaming). It’s not more powerful, comes in three storage variants ( 500GB/1TB/2TB ), and has a an all-new bundled wireless Xbox One controller. Your best Xbox One S UK deals are right here, or scroll down ever slightly to check out the top Xbox One S US bargains. But first, let us explain the key differences between the Xbox One S and the Xbox One. Watch: FIFA 17 vs PES 2017. Are you planning to buy the Xbox One S? Seen any other deals? Let us know in the comments below. Xbox One S On Sale This August for $299. Heads up, Xbox gamers: Microsoft's Xbox One S is official. At E3 on Monday, Redmond confirmed rumors that it plans to release a smaller version of its Xbox One console. The Xbox One S, which division head Phil Spencer called "the smallest Xbox One yet," will be available in August starting at $299. The all-white console Microsoft showed off Monday is 40 percent smaller than its predecessor, but inside you'll find an IR blaster, and integrated power supply, as well as support for HDR gaming, 4K Ultra HD video, and Blu-ray. The 500GB Xbox One S is $299, the 1TB version if $349, and a limited-edition 2TB console is $399. Pre-orders begin today. To save space, Redmond removed the dedicated Kinect port from the back; the motion sensor can still be hooked up via a free USB adapter. Users can also position the console horizontally or vertically with an optional stand. The Xbox One S comes with a new Xbox wireless controller, which features a textured grip, Bluetooth support, and an increased range. For a peek at the Xbox One S, check out the video below. "We are creating more choice in your gaming experience than ever before," Spencer said, promising "more exciting hardware, more innovation on Xbox Live, and more exclusive games." Also on tap is Project Scorpio, which Redmond calls "the most powerful console ever created." It features 6 teraflops of GPU for a true 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality. It won't arrive until holiday 2017, but will "coexist alongside Xbox One and Xbox One S and all of your Xbox One games and accessories are compatible." The Xbox One S wasn't exactly a surprise. Ahead of today's big event, images of the scaled-down console leaked online. Xbox One gamers can also look forward to some new features expected this summer, including background music so you can listen to your own jams while you play, "language region independence" so you can choose your preferred language no matter where you live, and Cortana. Microsoft's director of program management, Mike Ybarra, also outlined three new features headed to Xbox Live this fall: Clubs, where you can create your own communities; Looking For Group, a place where you can post want-ads for multiplayer teammates; and a new tournament platform called Arena. Also coming up is a new service called Xbox Play Anywhere. The idea is that once you buy a game digitally, you can play it across Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. Your progress and achievements will be stored on Xbox Live and shared across both platforms at no additional cost. About the Author. Angela has been a PCMag reporter since January 2012.
