Though your Xbox One controller runs on AA batteries and includes one pair of them, it's so much nicer to have the Play and Charge Kit rather than burning through costly AA batteries. Even rechargeable AA batteries aren't as good, they don't last quite as long per discharge, and you have to remove them to recharge them. It's much easier to just plug in the charging cable when your juice is low. These rechargeable batteries seem a little smaller than the Xbox 360 ones, but worked great all through my Xbox One's launch night. The only very minor downside is it takes a few seconds longer to swap these batteries out than it did to swap out an Xbox 360 battery, but I like the tradeoff of having the Xbox One controller be slimmer and sleeker since there isn't a big battery jutting out the back. The swap time doesn't really matter anyway since you use the cable to recharge it, where on the 360 I usually swapped one out of my Quick Charge kit (Microsoft hasn't yet released a similar product for the Xbox One yet). The charging cable is sufficiently long to play from my couch (8 feet away from my TV). Took an hour or so for the initial charging to finish from whatever capacity percentage these come from the factory. Don't bother with the third-party junk batteries. While the cable is just a basic micro USB and interchangeable, off-brand rechargeable batteries are rarely worth bothering with for the small difference in price. The cable itself seems pretty high quality too though, it snaps in and has a very solid connection, which I like. My only complaint isn't about this product, but about the Xbox One design. The single USB port is on the console's left side instead of how the Xbox 360 has two ports on the front. This makes it not reach quite as far, and is also more risky in the event of someone tripping over the cable. Instead of it just yanking out, it might tug the cord in a bad way and damage the cable or the USB port. I recommend buying the bundle with the controller for a $10 discount though ($75 instead of $60+$25=$85), unless you only ever plan on having one controller I suppose. Amazon is sold out of those at the time of this review, but my local Best Buy and Walmart still had stacks of them, so you may want to try a local store. Update 2013.11.24: I've gotten at least about 20 hours of on-time without the battery dying since I got my Xbox One. I didn't go until it died before plugging in the cable, but it seems to have about as much life in it as the old Xbox 360 rechargeables. Maybe even a little bit more since all my 360 ones are aging and gradually losing their charge, though this one will probably do the same over time. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Great charger. Plugs right in and holds its charge for a decent amount of time. No problems at all? I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. great product. My son is a heavy game player so this actually saves me money. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Charge and Play. what else is there to say? This performs the job it's advertised to do. You replace the batteries in your controller, plug the USB connector into your Xbox, and let it charge. You can use the controller while you are charging, so you don't have to worry about the controller dying on you while you scrounge your house for replacement batteries like before. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the fact that this should have been included in the Xbox controller on shipment. If I'm paying upwards of $50 for a controller, I don't feel I should need to buy extra accessories just to keep the darn thing running. My PS4 controller certainly didn't need me to cannibalize my poor TV remote. Product works well though, and that's ultimately why customers buy things. If you want to stop poisoning the environment with cheap Chinese batteries, throw a couple of these into your cart. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Nice Battery Option. This is a good buy. It is a worthwhile investment not to have to purchase replacement batteries all the time. I only wish they snapped off easily like the 360 rechargeables. That way you could switch them between controllers more easily or put them into a charger, if they come out with one. The battery compartment on the new controller is just a little bit of a pain to open. Not a big deal, but I would have thought the new controller would be sleeker and easier to use instead of harder to use and more clumsy. Still an amazing controller and battery though. I'm not displeased. The product works great overall and when you use the included cord, you don't have to remove the battery to charge it so for a lot of people that won't be a big deal. There's just not much to write about a battery so there you go. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. A must have! A must for every Xbox One owner, comes fully charged right out of the box! I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Batteries not required. I love this set up. I like that I do not have to buy batteries all the time. Also I never have to worry about my controller turning off on me. If the battery gets low. Just plug in the charge cable. And the cable is plenty long enough so you do have to be right under your TV to play. That's one reason why I prefer this setup over the charging docks. Uninterrupted game play. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Its nice not having to use batteries anymore. Just charge your controller like a cell phone. Xbox One Play and Charge Kit. I've had mine since the week I bought my XB1. The cord has a few kinks and such from the abuse of traveling with my system a few times a week, but the cord still works like the day I got it. In fact, I'm on my second controller after the first got left stick drift, but this cord is going strong. With that said, it *could* use a little more length, but I solved that with a 3 ft extension USB cord. If they were to improve it in the future I would ask for the extra length and possible some sort of additional support around the microUSB tip to protect the controller port. 6 out of 6 people found this helpful. Great play time, fast charging, and comes w/ long cord. Pops right into controller. It last much longer than both rechargeable and standard batteries. Build quality is nice and charge light on the cable is great. Great buy for a good price. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful. I believe in a short amount of time it will more than pay for itself for not having to buy batteries every few days. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful. Microsoft made battery n charger. I precisely purchased a third party licence battery and charger . They worked on they cost around the same price . But battery was always displaying low battery on screen. It was annoying . I got the real Microsoft branded and they work much better, it charges faster and the battery last longer., the packing also was better. Overall 5 star for me. 4 out of 5 people found this helpful. Great to have! Happy I bought this so I don't have to deal w/ batteries, but as I predicted the cord stopped working. However if you do have the stand then you should have no problem. One person found this helpful. it's good to have so u do have to buy batteries. i bought this 1 1/2 years ago and it still works fine i charge it once every 2 days. One person found this helpful. Great Purchase! The charge on this battery pack is amazing! I can't believe I went this long buying AA batteries that lasted half as long as 1 charge from this battery pack. I would recommend this to anybody that is looking for an easy to use / install battery pack. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful. Great product. Most of the types of alternative power accessories are great. Especially this one. That said however, as I've heard and totally agree, that the customers should not have to pay extra for such an accessory and it should be included right out of the box with the console. Who in the world uses batteries with all the charging tech out there? Microsoft needs to join Sony in the controllers being autonomous from batteries and having to pay extra for a feature that should be standard. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful. bought 2 of these. first gave me problems on the very first charge. after 10 charges it was toast. second works mediocrely compared to the factory aa batteries. just get a aa rechargable battery kit and play via usb when necessary. 3 out of 5 people found this helpful. 3-4 Hours is way too long!! I've been waiting for a charging stand like Microsoft had with XBox 360. That way i wouldn't have to plug in a controller and hope its actually charging through the wire provided. Sometimes it works, sometimes it needs to be put in just right like a busted cell phone cord. I only buy Microsoft products for my Xbox One so since it's either this or AA batteries, it sucks for the only two options I have. My thought is that 3-4 hours to charge something that should be charged in less than a hour is ridiculous especially from a company like Microsoft. 3 out of 7 people found this helpful. If your Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack doesn’t charge when you connect the Xbox One Wireless Controller to the console with a USB cable, it might have worn out (as all rechargeable batteries do). The length of time that a rechargeable battery lasts depends on how often you recharge it. If you recharge the battery frequently, it won't last as long as if you use the controller only occasionally. But before you replace it, try these tests. Test the cable. Check whether the cable is attached securely at both ends. Try a different cable. Sometimes a cable can develop a short, or it might be susceptible to interference. The Xbox One Play & Charge Kit uses a standard USB to micro-USB cable. You can use any USB to micro-USB cable to test whether the cable is the problem. Clean the battery contacts. Remove the battery and clean the contacts on the battery pack using a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Don’t use water or chemicals, which can damage the contacts. Test the wireless controller. Insert AA batteries into the controller, and then test the controller. Try a different Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack. If the controller works with a different battery pack or AA batteries, the controller isn't causing the issue. Xbox One accessories warranty. For information about the warranty for Xbox One consoles and accessories, visit Product Warranty: Xbox One console. Using the Play & Charge Kit battery pack. Insert the battery pack that came with your Xbox One Play & Charge Kit into your Xbox One Wireless Controller, and charge it using the charge cable included in the kit. Insert the battery pack. Open the battery compartment door. Insert the Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack with the connection side first, aligned with the connection points in the compartment. The battery is designed to be inserted only in this direction. Replace the battery compartment door. Charge the battery. Connect your charge cable to the USB port on the front of the controller. Connect the other end of the charge cable to a USB port on your Xbox One. If your Xbox One console is off, turn it on. The console must be turned on after the controller is connected or the battery won’t charge. However, you can then turn it off again if you want to. The light on your charge cable glows amber to indicate the battery is charging. When the light changes to white, the battery pack is fully charged. You can use your controller to play while the batteries charge. Your controller transmits all signals through the cable until it’s unplugged. When the battery pack is fully charged, you can stay connected to your console with the charging cable without using battery power or damaging your batteries. You can also charge your battery by connecting the controller and charge cable to any USB power source, and use other USB-certified cables. However, charging times may vary. Standard AA (LR6) batteries work in your Xbox One Wireless Controller, and so do rechargeable AA (LR6) batteries. Regular rechargeable batteries don’t charge in the controller. Recharge other batteries by the method recommended by the manufacturer. Troubleshooting. From time to time, it’s a good idea to clean the battery contacts with a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Don’t use water or chemicals, which can damage the contacts. If the LED on the charge cable is not lit, make sure your battery is in place and the cable is properly inserted into the controller and console. If your battery is still not charging, your battery may be at fault. See Troubleshoot the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit battery pack. Consult your Xbox One Product Manual for important health and safety information about using batteries with your Xbox One Wireless Controller. Xbox One Play & Charge Kit. Good for a 1 time charge thing. i put the battery into the controller and played it for a week without needing to charge it, but once i charged it, it only charged about half the battery. And again half of half of the battery charged. and now the batteries die immediately if i unplug the charger. so it could be a good product but it fries your batteries. i want a refund but its too late for my refund. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful. 3 days after the warranty expired so did the ability for this thing to charge its battery. Light goes amber when its plugged in to charge the nearly dead battery and after 30 seconds it turns white (indicating that its being used as a connection and not charging). The Xbox 360 play and charge kit was far superior then this crappy one with its micro USB connector. Save your money and get rechargeable AA battery's. One person found this helpful. ive had mine for over almost 2 years now and the battery still keeps the same charge time it has since day 1 👌 One person found this helpful. Makes Controllers Unrechargable. The play and charge kit is firmly connected into the controller. Every time you need to take it out, it takes a great deal of force. Every time you take it out with force, you damage the outlet in the controller (you can even see it being bent visually out of shape. Overtime, the outlet will become too damaged and the controller will connect but no longer charge. This has already ruined THREE of my controllers and Microsoft won't due s*** to replace it because it's out of warranty. The play and charge kit WILL ruin your controller overtime. I'm using rechargeable batteries from now on. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful. Does not hold a charge. After 4 months the Play & Charge kit does not hold a charge and no longer recharges. Only worked properly for 4 months then completely stopped working. One person found this helpful. Cord is nice and long. Was worth the buy! Save lots on batteries. 2 out of 3 people found this helpful. Only way to go. The standard controller that comes with the xbox purchase eats batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This solves the problem. It should be standard with the console purchase but then xbox wouldn't make the millions it probably does on all of us buying it separately. 2 out of 3 people found this helpful. perfection. the best saves you from always buying bateries + it has a little light soo u know when its chargin and when its done it helps alot trust me. 2 out of 3 people found this helpful. I got mine and since I started using it my first controller stopped working properly and then once I put it into another perfectly working controller it fried that one, coincidence? I think I should get my $150 back. Fits perfectly. Works well. No complaints so far. Plugged it in a week or so ago and charged it up with the generous length USB cable provided. Haven't had to recharge yet so it is working well. No surprises at all. Saves having to replace/recharge AA batteries every so often. My only concern is the value equation.
