Left stick (1) and right stick (10) : These are small joysticks, raised above the controller surface, with concaved rubbery pads. The left stick resides on the lower left of the front face of the controller, and the right stick resides on the lower right of the front face. The sticks are used to interact with games, apps, and the Xbox One interface. These move directionally, and they can also function as clickable buttons when you press down on them.
Left bumper (2) and right bumper (7) : These are oblong-shaped pressable controls that reside on the top of the controller to the left and right of the USB charging port. These controls are used to interact with games, apps, and the Xbox One interface. They are often used as accelerators to jump between sections of the UI but have varied functionality depending on the game.
View button (3) : This button resides just to the lower left of the Xbox button (around 7 o'clock). Use this button to focus in on an activity in a game or app, such as pulling up a map during a role-playing game or accessing the address bar in Internet Explorer. The functions of this button vary depending on the app or game.
USB charge port (4) : This port resides on the top edge of the controller above the Xbox button. It's a recessed mini USB port, which connects your wireless controller to the console using a mini USB cable. For more information, see About the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit.
Xbox button (5) : This button resides at the top front face of the controller (12 o'clock position). It is slightly recessed and round. It has multiple functions:
When the controller or console is turned off, hold this button to turn on the console. If the console is already on and the controller is off, hold this button to turn on the controller. When the controller and console are already on, hold this button to turn off the console. When the controller and console are already on, press and hold this button until it rumbles and from there you can turn on Narrator or magnifier. See Turn on Narrator on Xbox Onefor more info. When using the console, press this button once to open the guide. When using the controller with a Windows 10 device, this button opens the Game bar when pressed during PC gameplay. Exception : During game streaming through the Xbox App for Windows 10, pressing this button returns you to the Home screen of the Xbox App for Windows 10.
Menu button (6): This button resides just to the lower right of the Xbox button (around 5 o'clock). Use this button to access game and app menu options like Settings or Help , along with commands within the user interface such as Enter on a keyboard.
Directional pad (D-pad) (8) : This is a raised plus sign-shaped toggle that resides between the left and right thumb sticks. It moves the focus up, down, right, and left in the UI. Used to interact with games, apps, and the Xbox One interface.
Expansion port (9) : This is a recessed port that resides on the bottom-side edge of the controller. It's used to connect other accessories, such as an Xbox One Chat Headset.
3.5-mm port (16) : This is a recessed port next to the expansion port on the bottom-side edge of the controller. Used to connect compatible 3.5-mm audio devices. Only available on controllers released after June 2015.
A , B , X , Y buttons : These buttons sit on the right side of the controller. The Y button sits in 12 o'clock position, with B , A , and X positioned clockwise. Used to interact with games, apps, and the Xbox One interface.

Wireless enrollment button (13) : This small, slightly raised button resides just to the left of the USB port on the top edge of the controller. Used to wirelessly connect the controller to a console and to enroll in Bluetooth pairing on a Windows 10 PC. For more information, see Connect a wireless Xbox One controller to your console.
Right trigger (11) and left trigger (14) : Positioned just below the bumpers on the front-top edge of the controller. These are pressable controls most commonly used during gameplay. They often vibrate to provide feedback during the games, though you can turn off vibration in the controller settings.
Battery compartment cover (15) : Sits on the middle back of the controller.
3.5-mm port (16) : This is a recessed port next to the expansion port on the bottom-side edge of the controller. Used to connect compatible 3.5-mm audio devices. Only available on controllers released after June 2015.

I loved the original Chatpad on the Xbox 360 so I had to pick this one up. If you also had a Chatpad for the 360, this one is much lighter as the controller itself has a nice weight to it. When you plug it into the controller and power on the console, you'll be prompted for a controller update. Once that's done, you're ready to use it. There is also a one-ear headset included in the box for chat. NOTE: make sure you adjust the volume on the Chatpad so you can hear in-game audio and voice chat at the same time if you game with headphones. I couldn't hear my friends while chatting and thought the Chatpad was bad at first. One thing I noticed about this Chatpad is that with headphones (in my case, the Logitech G430), the in-game audio is much louder compared to connecting headphones directly to the controller and via standard adapter, which is a very good thing. Also, there's two special keys on the Chatpad: X1 and X2. X1 takes quick screenshots and X2 captures the last 30 seconds of Gameplay. Supposedly there will be a system update later in which allows customizing those keys to do what you want. Other than that, all of the keys illuminate and makes typing out messages much faster compared to spamming the d-pad and X button.

This is a great addition to your Xbox one controllers. It makes messaging fast and easy. Has headphone controls on it also. Works great in the dark and uses the power of the controller, so now additional batteries or charging. Works with original, 3.5 headphone and Elite controllers.

I was bummed when I originally got the chatpad for the 360, only to find out it doesn't work. Fast forward to today, and I decided to buy it. Compared it to the 360 chatpad, and it's much slimmer, and a bit lighter. Very useful for Final Fantasy XIV, allows me to chat without having to reach down, pull out my keyboard tray, and type a message. I do however need some time to adjust to key layout. Bonus Points: If you are using with an Elite controller, it will fit inside the case, while still attached to the controller.

Game Changer.
I can't believe I'd never purchased a chatpad before and I know for sure I never will go without again. Scrolling through on-screen alphabets is so annoying and extremely time consuming and this chatpad works like a breeze. Incredibly responsive, especially for fast typers. It does take some getting used to because it manages to fit 3 characters (alphabet, symbol, and more) onto each key. It fits comfortably in your hand while you play and doesn't make the controller feel bulky or clunky. headphone jack included makes it a great choice over just a headset adaptor. Really love this item.

I must say this Xbox One chatpad is a big improvement over the 360 chatpad. This pad is extremely easy to pop on and off your Xbox One controller, making it much more user friendly. The keyboard is backlit when you hit a key. There are also two programmable buttons you can assign to launch apps or other functions. If you type a little or a lot, this chatpad is a must buy for Xbox fans!

for thouse who still say this does not work with the one s let me tell ya something i am using it right now on my special edition deep blue one s and on the controller that came with it. further more for thouse that say horrible white noise it is either a bad jack its your head set or your internet is ****. this works just fine on the first gen the elite and the one s i have all 3 so quit lying and saying you talked to a rep because they would not say that.

I love the chatpad.
I love the chatpad and will be purchasing another. The one I got previously did the same as 'Attactix303'. I opened it used it immediately messaging working as good as usual but once I plugged the head set in my whole party said they echoed, could barely hear me and I put the volume highest and I didn't hear them very well. Very unpleasant surprise to find a brand new product from Microsoft be faulty. So I did hit them up don't remember what they said although I'm trading it in and I'll be buying a new one.

Audio is terrible.
I bought this a couple months ago and while the chat-pad works well for typing the audio quality coming through the jack on the bottom is very poor. No one can hear me in party chat because of all the feedback and white noise. I threw mine away.

Xbox One controller gets programmable trigger buttons, design refinements.

The newly announced Xbox One is getting a new controller to go with it. It looks a lot like the Xbox 360's controller, but with what Microsoft says are 40 "technical and design innovations" on top of its 8-year-old predecessor.

So what's the big new change? Not the action buttons, directional pad, analog sticks, or triggers -- which are all in the same place. Instead, all these things have been refined. The thumbsticks, for instance, now have textured ridges and are now 25 percent easier to move, which Microsoft says will make long play sessions less tiresome. The D-pad is no longer a circular, pivoting design, with Microsoft favoring a simple cross that juts out from the plastic and was pleasingly clicky in our brief hands-on time.

What is new are two buttons that replace the longtime start and back buttons. Microsoft has not detailed just what they do yet, though has confirmed that you'll still be able to use one of them to pause your game. The batteries are still removable, but now go into a compartment that's built into the back of the controller instead of as a pack that sticks out like a camel's hump, so the back of the new controller is a flat expanse for your fingers.
Other changes include a move for the Xbox Guide button, which is now at the very top of the controller and glows with a slight, bluish-white hue. The move makes the Guide button a bit of a reach to get to, but it also means you won't accidentally hit it while trying to pause your game. There's also a new infrared LED on the front of the controller, which can be picked up by the Kinect sensor to figure out where you are in the room, something Microsoft says can be used to position split-screen games and the like if people move around the room.
Perhaps the biggest change is not on the outside, but on the inside. New vibration motors nestled right beneath the triggers can work in tandem with the motors lower down on the controller to create new rumbly effects. The demos we got with a near-final version of the controller were very, very basic -- things like a car engine starting, a gun firing, and helicopter rotors swirling -- but the extra feedback was pleasing. Microsoft didn't provide a demo of this with an actual Xbox One game, or provide details on battery life with the extra shakes.

While we got a few minutes with the Xbox One controller, we probably won't get any with Sony's DualShock 4 for the PlayStation 4 before E3. But there are a few ways in which we can compare them with each other now.
The DualShock 4 differentiates itself with a clickable touch pad on the front -- giving developers an additional option when designing games, although we've yet to see it in actual application.
Also, the light bar on the DualShock 4 includes some Move capability, allowing the PS4 to track the position and identify where the controller is and, if need be, actually adjust the split-screen orientation during multiplayer couch gaming. The Xbox One will accomplish this with assistance from Kinect, as it automatically tracks who's holding which controller.
The DualShock 4 also gets a Share button, a built-in speaker, and a headphone jack. Share allows players to quickly upload game footage to the Internet for others to see. The Xbox One will have this feature, too, but details on just how it works and where you'll be able to share those videos have not been announced. Microsoft has said it's allowing Xbox One developers to program recording features into their games that will kick off a recording when a user gets to a boss or unlocks an achievement.
The Xbox One uses a technology called Wi-Fi Direct to connect its controller, while the PlayStation 4 relies on Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. On paper, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR's theoretical 3Mbps maximum speed is clearly outclassed by Wi-Fi Direct's 250Mbps theoretical throughput. However, whether this difference will result in any tangible difference remains to be seen. In the Xbox One's case, this could end up being important if Microsoft chooses to release add-ons, like a microphone for voice chat, and an updated version of its keyboard pad.
The problem with comparing the two controllers right now is that we've yet to actually use them for what they're designed for: playing games. Check back in a few weeks during E3, as we're hoping to get copious amounts of play time.

2017 has been a huge year for console gamers, with hardware taking a huge leap forward, particularly in the Xbox family. Last year we saw the launch of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S, two new hardware iterations that improved upon the 2013 originals with a range of cool new features.
The PS4 Pro is a solid upgrade over the PS4, capable of upscaling specific games to 4K using a sophisticated checker-boarding technique. It can also enhance performance using the newly implemented Boost Mode with increased frame rates across multiple titles.
Xbox One S, on the other hand, is a smaller, more refined machine complete with a 4K Blu-ray player and HDR support. These are impressive machines, yet both may pale in comparison to Xbox One X.
The arrival of the Xbox One S changes the game somewhat. It’s essentially the machine the Xbox One should have been at launch. It’s smaller, more attractive and comes with some serious benefits, such as 4K video playback, support for HDR TVs.
There are plenty of reasons to pick up either console depending on your personal preferences. PS4 tends to offer superior performance over Xbox One when it comes to third-party games. Xbox One owners have access to a library of IP not found anywhere else. Halo, Gears of War, Forza and more will forever be at home on Microsoft’s system.
Sony has its own set of exclusive games which won’t be available on the Xbox One. Uncharted, Gran Turismo Sport, God of War, Death Stranding, Persona 5, Street Fighter V and The Last Guardian to name just a few.
Based on Windows 10, Xbox One’s unique interface – which aims to bring together a multitude of media connections into a single channel – is also worth taking into account if you want a console which is the centre of your entertainment world.

PS4 vs Xbox One Price: How much do they cost?
These days, it’s easy to find both consoles at a bargain price bundled with a couple of games and a sizeable hard drive.
The Xbox One has been discontinued, but some retailers will still sell the older hardware to shift stock. But the Xbox One S, thanks to the launch of the One X, is now available for incredibly cheap prices for decent bundles. It’s quite possible to get a One S and a game or two for just £200. Also if you’d like to expand the storage capacity, Xbox One consoles support the use of external hard drives which are available for good prices too.

PS4 Slim, which is now the standard model going forward, retails for £249 with a 500GB hard drive as standard. As is the case with Xbox One, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding bundles that throw in a couple of games. Larger memory variants can also be found, or you could upgrade the PS4 hard drive yourself.

PS4 Pro is a little more pricey, currently sitting at £349 with a 1TB hard drive. The console itself is twice as powerful, so a £100 premium isn’t bad at all. Unfortunately, stock at most retailers has been intermittent at best since launch, so you might need to shop around.
Xbox One S is naturally more expensive than the original model, with the limited edition 2TB version (now entirely sold out, according to Microsoft) costing £349.99. The 500GB and 1TB models are noticeably cheaper, costing £249.99 and £299.99 respectively.

We could go into the ins and out of the differences between the designs of the PS4 and Xbox One, but if you’re the type of person that loves a snazzy looking piece of kit on your shelf, here’s what you need to know:
The original Xbox One is a lot larger than the PS4, measuring up at 7.9 x 27.4 x 33.3cm compared to the PS4’s 5.3 x 27.5 x 30.5cm dimensions.

Both bear the genetic material of their forebears, but the DualShock 4 feels like more of a change. Microsoft has stuck with what worked so well in the Xbox 360 controller, and as such the Xbox One pad is more of a tweak than a full redesign.
There are two main changes. The Xbox One pad has rumble motors built into the triggers to give greater feedback when, for example, shooting guns. But those rumble triggers easily make the Xbox One the better console to play racing games on – sorry, DriveClub and Gran Turismo Sport.
Microsoft has also made huge improvements to the D-pad. The mushy Xbox 360 D-pad has been switched for one more clicky and responsive, and already works wonders on the likes of Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat X.
Sadly, the Xbox One controller still requires a pair of AA batteries as standard, rather than being rechargeable like the PS4’s DualShock 4. You’ll probably want to buy the Play and Charge kit separately for each controller for £19 a go.
However, if you do stick to AA batteries, you’ll definitely see your Xbox One controller pack a longer play time than the PS4 controller, which requires regular charging via micro-usb.
The DualShock 4’s changes are more marked. It’s chunkier than the previous DualShock controllers and a lot heavier too, giving a firmer feel than the last-gen DualShock 3 pad.
After all that, have we really found a victor? Not as such. If you loved the Xbox 360 pad, you’ll probably prefer the Xbox One controller. However, the DualShock 4 has a robust feel that previous PlayStation pads simply haven’t had.
There’s also the Xbox One Elite Controller to consider, which is available now – albeit in limited quantities. If you’re willing to pay the staggering £120 you can get yourself this customisable controller. It’s just perfect for those looking to get a more professional gaming experience from a pad.
Swappable D-pad and analogue sticks, Hair Trigger Locks, interchangeable rear paddles and a rubberised diamond grip and customisable inputs thanks to a companion app for Xbox One and PC; you pretty much couldn’t want any more from a controller.
To make your purchasing choice even more difficult, it’s worth mentioning that the revised Xbox One S controller brings improvements to the table, too. It boasts a new textured grip, swappable covers, an extended operational range and Bluetooth built-in, which means you can use it with your PC.

Each console has amassed a hugely impressive library of games since November 2013, many of which you can’t play anywhere else. The best selection is down to your personal taste, with each company hosting a variety of essential first-party talent.

Ori and the Blind Forest – This gorgeous platformer will make you cry like a baby and scream in frustration with its touching story and challenging gameplay.
Rare Replay – Compiling over 30 games from the legendary developer, Rare Replay is a nostalgic trip well worth taking. I mean, who can say no to Viva Pinata?
Forza Horizon 3 – One of the finest racers of this generation, Horizon 3 is absolutely packed with hundreds of cars, events and a blistering open world to explore.
Quantum Break – This time travelling shooter boasts some commendable star power alongside its range of time-bending abilities.
PS4 vs Xbox One – Conclusion.
PS4 is a multi-faceted console with plenty of unique features and a bustling library of worthwhile exclusives. Players looking for expansive JRPGs and niche experiences will find so much to love PS4, as well as gaining the upper hand in performance with the majority of third-party titles.
PS4 Pro has come into its own since its release, offering benefits beyond its 4K upscaling with its newly introduced Boost Mode. PlayStation VR is the cherry-on-top for PS4 owners, so long as you’re willing to invest in the fancy new peripheral.
Xbox One is also a brilliant option to consider, boasting the likes of Halo, Forza and Gears of War under its blockbuster umbrella. Ever since Phil Spencer took charge of the brand we’ve seen the focus shift towards games, despite the cancellation of high-profile exclusives like Scalebound.
You also have Xbox Play Anywhere, a service that gives you 2 digital games for the price of one across Xbox One and Windows 10. The recent release of Xbox One S will more than certainly keep us entertained until the arrival of Project Scorpio later this year.
