What to Expect with the Next Xbox One Update. You have made Xbox what it is today and we couldn’t be more grateful for your support and valuable feedback. Our focus continues to be on you and what you want in the product. Last month, we launched Xbox Feedback, a dedicated channel for all your thoughts and recommendations. We will begin implementing some of the features you requested by rolling out the next Xbox One system update for folks who get early access. We’re looking forward to hearing feedback on features before we roll them out to all Xbox One consoles next month and beyond. In the next update, we’ll improve a number of social features to make sharing your gaming experiences with friends better and easier. Here’s a shortlist of features rolling out next week to those with early access to the Xbox One system update: Activity feed updates : We’re adding new ways for you to interact with friends in the activity feed. The interface will change to a single column scrolling list that is longer and includes more content. We’ll add the ability to post text to your feed, and to “like” and comment on feed items. You can share game clips and anything else in the feed with friends either publically (to your activity feed) or privately (as an attachment to a message). You’ll also be notified when anyone likes, comments on or shares your items. Each user will get a personal feed on their profile, so you can see what specific friends have been up to. And, with SmartGlass, you can see what your friends have shared to their activity feed and “like” specific posts (additional activity feed support coming in future SmartGlass updates). Expanded Friends area on Home : Right from Home, see what’s going on with your friends. Stay up-to-date with their current activity, the top trending games your friends are playing, and a leaderboard to see who has been working the hardest on their Gamerscore. We’re doing an extended preview on this, rolling it into the early access preview this month to a subset of our preview audience so we can refine it until it’s ready for the entire Xbox One market. Mobile purchase : One of the most requested features on Xbox Feedback. Using Xbox SmartGlass or on Xbox.com, you can remotely purchase games and Add-on content. No more waiting to begin downloading when you get home – if your console is set to automatically take updates, your console will begin downloading your purchase. Low battery notification : You asked for it, now a notification will pop up when your controller battery is getting low. Disable notifications during video : Adding the ability to turn off notifications based feedback we heard from you. Enabling 3D Blu-ray : An update to the Blu-ray player app will enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on Xbox One. OneGuide in Brazil, Mexico, Austria and Ireland : Live TV listings can be configured for four new countries as part of this month’s Preview program. And now there is an OneGuide Issue Reporter available under the TV & OneGuide settings, Troubleshooting section. Last seen time in Friends list : Direct from Xbox Feedback, the friends list will now show how long it’s been since a friend has been online. For example, “Last seen 20m ago: Forza Motorsport 5.” In addition to these features, we are still always doing other work on the backend you may not notice including getting ready to ship in 29 new markets starting this September. Don’t waste your time explaining some people just don’t understand and have never programmed. So apparently I have been invited to participate in the preview program by many people but have not received a single email from Microsoft. It’s been over a week since the first person invited me. Am I missing something here? does anyone with eh preview program that got the update have the friend section on the home screen now? I dont have it on mine. It was only a select portion of preview testers getting that version of the extended preview. I think everyone else will probably get it I’m the next preview update and then it will go to public after that. That’s my guess, from the way they described it. How about some damn video streaming. Mine was taking a little longer than usual to load some apps. Restarted it and is back to normal. Hold the power button on console until the console shuts down completely. 7-10 seconds should do it. The only thing I was looking forward to. It’s in the september update I believe, be patient it’s coming mate. The Friend Section is coming in 5 September when Xbox One is releasing to the last 13 countries they release that update that day so we get it the same day it is a little easier for Microsoft that way. Here’s a “hide in plain sight” question: how can you see a listing of the latest (all?) of the XBOX Gold games? Is there a section of the “store” where I can see this? Thanks for these monthly updates Microsoft, you are really two steps ahead of sony 🙂 It’s actually hilarious that Sony rushed out their 3D patch just shortly after they heard that Xbox was going to release one. Its actually a bit more hilarious that Xbox one needs to get constant patches and updates to get on par with the Xbox 360. Really? Why in the world wasn’t the Xbox one shipped with all of these? In all fairness this is a whole new arch for a console. They are more PC than anything. Guess they needed time to make it work with the new arch. However I know that’s a weak excuse and you are mostly right….and they still have a long way to go still. Sony was “ahead” of the Xbox on patching last gen. The PS3’s updates were so awful and fixed nothing that anyone ever really saw that I grew to laugh at my PS3. It didn’t last long in my house. The Xbox’s frequent updates have been great, they happen without me even knowing. I boot up the console and say “WTF? When did the friends section move?” I’m in the Preview Program and really liked that battery warning. And to celebrate the update we get an incredible Deal of the week. We get COD Ghost AND COD MW 3! For anyone interested I been mesing around and found three options for playing music on x1 whilst playing games digital or physical media. 1st. An audio cd will play using the AUDiO CD app snapped. Then starting a digitally downloaded game such spartan assault/ crimson dragon etc this is the only way you can play a cd and game at the moment. 2nd. You can use the MUSIC app to play the radio channel and pick your own music just search an artist and play, snap the music app and launch any type of game digital or physical. You can use kinnect to do voice commands to play /pause etc or just keep snapping between and use the controller fo control the music. 3rd. My main choice, streaming from any bluetooth music player or phone. Selct your console from the blutooth option on the device to pair it and start playing the MUSIC app will open just snap it , again you can play either digital or physical games this way. You have to use the devices normal media controls to choose music and play pause etc as you cannot use kineect voice commands. my question is will it still keep playing if i unsnap it? cause i don’t like the fact that i can’t play my music when it’s in fullscreen mode. 😦 I dont think so cos it would be on the main window and as soonas you open another app it pauses it until you go back to it. It does take a large chunk of the sceen snapped as well. It doesn’t. I just have a line cable going from the stereo adapter on the controller to my laptop’s mic jack and play my music on the computer with headphones in. Low tech but it works. How does that 3rd option works. search for Xbox one through Bluetooth? Yes i have a htc one m8 and just open my music player tho thinking mine has a send to tv option which picks up the x1. I was wrong its not doing it thru bluetooth as it was switched when i just tried again just now. I Guess major doesn´t read its comments. I have had this with blu ray films as well usually just taking it out and re insert once or twice sorts it , not good though thought me drive had failed. Hey folks, we’re still working on our next Xbox One system update and have been receiving some really great feedback from members with early access. Tonight, I wanted to let you know we’re pushing a few more features to the members previewing new system updates. Here are a few details on those features. Blu-ray player supports 50 Hz video output for content recorded at 50 Hz. We’ll also be updating the Blu-ray Player app in the coming days to round out these improvements. We’re committed to delivering innovation through system updates, and I can’t say enough how integral fan feedback is to this process. Some features previewed won’t always make it to launch right away because we want to help ensure the best experience for our fans before pushing a new feature. Also, these features may roll out over several days to this audience. First Wave of New Xbox Update Features Ship to Select Xbox Insiders Today. Today, we’re beginning to ship the first wave of Xbox One features for the Creators Update to the Xbox Insider Program members. As Mike Ybarra shared last week, the Creators Update is packed full of new features for gamers who play on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs – in fact, we’re targeting hundreds of improvements across the board, noticeable by gamers and under the hood. Today’s update will start rolling out to a small subset of gamers, with the rest of the Xbox Insider Program receiving these features in the coming weeks. For gamers, the Creators Update is about performance, people, competition and streaming – getting you to the things you care about most as quickly as possible. Today, that will mean a faster Xbox One experience than ever before, connecting you with the applications, games and of course, friends, that you enjoy most. Check out the updated Home and learn how the newly-designed Guide works and is meant to simplify your experience. There’s lots more, too. As part of our commitment to enhancing gaming for everyone, we’re opening up new accessibility options to ensure great experiences for all gamers when playing on Xbox. Here’s a look at the new features reaching Xbox Insiders today: An updated look at Home : One of the first things you’ll notice is a new look for Home. Through the Insider program, we’ve received feedback from Xbox One gamers that the UI can be complex and for certain tasks, can require too many button presses. Our goal is to simplify the UI and increase overall system performance, and that starts with updating Home based on what you care most about for the games you play. To do that, we’ve optimized for speed and are surfacing to you the most valuable content for your games. You’ll notice the main tile for what you’re currently playing has changed. Now, you’ll see a smaller icon for the game and a few options to dive deeper into the Game Hub, interact with your Club or LFG for that game, view your Achievements and more. The updated Home also celebrates the game you’re currently playing with hero art in the background when you’re not using a custom background. Faster and more intuitive Guide : The next thing you’re likely to notice is that Guide has been updated. With one press of the Xbox button on your controller, you can pull up the newly enhanced Guide as an overlay on the left side of your screen, no matter what you’re doing. With the Guide, we’ve added new features and functionality. You’ll notice that there’s a new start page. This page is designed to get you to the content you care about most, including your games and apps, Home, Store, your recently played games and apps and your top Pins. It also features quick access to your media controls when playing background music. New way to multitask : In addition to adding a new start page to Guide, we’re also evolving our multitasking system. To simplify discoverability and to make it much quicker to get to the things you care about most, our multitasking features will also be designed to work well with the new Guide. In addition to quick access to music, screen shots and GameDVR will be one button press away. You can bring up Guide and press “X” or “Y” on your controller to record your favorite gaming moments. We’ve also added a new achievement tracker which allows you to track your favorite achievements and play at the same time. The new Guide is also where you will be able to broadcast instantly to Beam when we roll that out to Insiders in the next couple of weeks. Cortana gaming enhancements : There are a series of new Cortana updates to make your Xbox One smarter. In this update, you can set reminders and alarms so you don’t miss gaming sessions. In the coming weeks, we will be releasing more Cortana updates to enhance your gaming experience even more as well as continued performance and reliability updates. Improving system updates : Our goal with system updates is that you never have to worry about them again, and to make it clearer when a system update is available. To enable this we are updating the interface so the steps are easy to understand. We’re also going to enable every Xbox One owner to keep their console, games and apps up to date independent of which power mode they have chosen. Enabling Xbox One to be accessible for everyone : One important area for us with this release is to enable Xbox One to be able to be used and played by everyone. Take for instance our new Copilot feature which allows two controllers to act as if they were one. This will help make Xbox One more inviting to new gamers needing assistance, more fun by adding cooperative controls for any game and easier for players who need unique configurations to play — whether that is with hands apart, hand and chin, hand and foot, etc..
