The 7 Best Xbox One Headsets.
Last year we looked at some of the best gaming headsets available on the Xbox One. Our top pick, at the time, was the Plantronics Rig Flex LX. Since then though, a number of new headsets have entered the market including the updated SteelSeries Wireless line, as well as new sets from Kingston, Polk Audio and Astro.
TL;DR: These are the 7 Best Headsets for Xbox One:
Plantronics Rig Flex LX (Wired) Turtle Beach Ear Force XO One (Wired) Polk Audio Striker Pro ZX (Wired) Winner: Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver (Wired) Astro A50 (Wireless) Turtle Beach Elite 800X (Wireless) Winner: SteelSeries Siberia 800 (Wireless)
At $130 MSRP, the Plantronics Rig Flex LX is on the pricier side for a stereo wired headset, but it managed to snag our top spot in our previous round-up due to its combination of comfort, excellent chat quality, and clean, well-balanced audio. You can wear this headset for hours, which you’ll want to do: even on the most bass-heavy EQ setting, lows are nice and punchy without overwhelming the mids and highs, and it’s very easy to hear both small audio details and what direction they’re coming from.
The style of the Flex LX’s included controller dongle is an improvement over Microsoft’s stereo headset adapter, too. Instead of pressing buttons that show no indication of just how loud or soft you’ve made your game or your XBL party, you’ll use a knob to control the volume, and a dial to control the balance between game and chat audio. You’ll be able to see your settings at a glance.
And though it doesn’t take the sting away from the price tag, the Flex LX comes with a second cable that lets you ditch the boom mic—handy for when you’re using these cans with a mobile device.
If the Flex LX is too expensive for your taste, the Turtle Beach Ear Force XO One is an $80 stereo headset that offers superior performance over Microsoft’s Stereo Headset. Audio details are a touch less clear than the Plantronics Rig Flex LX, but you can still distinctly hear sounds like grunts, footfalls, and distant gunfire, as well as the direction they came from. (That’s not the case with the Stereo Headset.) You’ll also be able to hear yourself from within the headset while chatting, which allows you to better modulate how loudly you’re talking.
The XO One is also very lightweight, which is nice for long gaming sessions. The only drawback to this particular set of cans is that its ear cups are on the smaller side, so if you have bigger ears, this may not be a completely comfortable fit.
This is the Xbox One variant of Polk Audio's Striker Pro series. The ZX includes Microsoft's headset adapter for first generation Xbox One controllers. Anyone who picked up their console or controller late enough to have built-in 3.5mm jack on the bottom, can grab the slightly cheaper P1 instead.
Otherwise, everything here is the same. Solid audio with a show-stealing microphone all for a decent price.
The Kingston HyperX Cloud Revolver is Kingston's first crack at their own gaming headset. Now, I know you're probably about to cite the HyperX Cloud and Cloud II, but those were designed by a third party and modified by Kingston. The Cloud Revolver is entirely their own.
At first glance the Cloud Revolver looks much more aggressive than the subtle curves of its predecessor. Underneath the gruff exterior, though, there's some pretty solid tech. $120 will get you 50mm drivers, and a detachable, noise-cancelling mic, both of which punch well above their weight. Ear cups are made with high-density memory foam to hold the speakers a bit further from your ears, opening up the audio just a bit. Overall they're an excellent, practical choice, and a worthy, albeit pricier, successor to Kingston's previous sets.
Head to page 2 for the best wireless selections.

Best Xbox One and Xbox One X Headsets of 2018.
Microsoft brought voice communication to the mainstream on home gaming consoles. The Xbox 360 headset almost became part of the console's image, and partying up with your friends to communicate over voice chat is now a standard console feature.
As such, there's a flood of Xbox One headsets on the market — and since the latest versions of the Xbox One controller support 3.5 mm jacks you can use practically any headset with an in-line mic to communicate over Xbox Live. All Xbox One headsets are also compatible with the new Xbox One X, too.
While the basic $10 single-piece headset might suffice for many, even the most casual gamer will benefit from picking up a dedicated headset. Here are some of the best headsets designed for use with the Xbox One.
Turtle Beach Elite Pro Tournament.
Turtle Beach's Elite Pro Tournament is a supreme Xbox One headset for a number of reasons, and it remains one of my favorite Xbox and PC headsets.
The Elite Pro Tournament headset delivers stunning, crystalline audio combined with next-level comfort. The headset's generous cushioning across the headband and earcups allow you to forget you're even wearing a headset, reducing the physical delta between you and complete immersion.
If you throw in the Elite Pro Tournament's Tactical Audio Controller, you'll end up with unprecedented control over your game. Adjust audio levels, surround sound modes, mic feedback and more without interrupting play.
Every aspect of this experience simply screams premium. Turtle Beach has outdone itself with the Elite Pro Tournament headset. The Elite Pro Tournament headset will set you back around $150, or $300 if you throw in the audio controller (and you totally should, if you can afford it!)
Razer Thresher Ultimate.
Razer's flagship headset is a winner, delivering spacious 7.1 surround in a supremely comfortable package.
As a wireless headset, Razer's Thresher Ultimate comes bundled with a tidy stand, boasting 15 hours of battery life and an impressive 40 ft wireless range (with a signal strong enough to penetrate walls). It also has an impressive frequency response for a wireless headset, delivering crisp audio that won't disappoint.
For our executive editor Daniel Rubino, this set is currently his favorite, and it can be yours for $249.
Plantronics RIG 800LX.
Plantronics' flagship wireless headset, the RIG 800LX, represents serious value for money, with an exceptionally low weight, great comfort, and premium-feeling materials.
The RIG 800LX might lack some bells and whistles like loud mic monitoring and 3.5mm connectivity, but it's a no-nonsense wireless solution that works flawlessly across both Xbox One and Windows 10.
It comes with a bundled code for Dolby Atmos for a solid surround sound experience, and boasts some truly insane battery life for all-day uninterrupted gaming. You can grab this headset for $150, and it's one of my favorites on this list.
LucidSound LS40 Wireless.
LucidSound is a relative newcomer to the Xbox headset market, but the company sports a wealth of industry knowledge and talent. LucidSound leveraged that expertise for the LS40 headset, its flagship product.
The LS40 headset is a gorgeous piece of kit designed to be used on any modern console, PC, or mobile phone. It includes 7.1 surround sound on consoles using optical audio and a USB dongle, but it can also be used passively with a 3.5 mm cable. The mic boom is removable, and the design is sleek and subtle, making it a great option for using in public as well as gaming.
The audio quality is incredible, and while I had some issues with mic monitoring, it hasn't stopped this headset from becoming one of my go-to products. At $200, it doesn't break the bank either.
Turtle Beach Stealth 600.
Turtle Beach's Stealth 600 easily delivers the best wireless audio at an incredibly affordable price point. A successor to the Stealth 420 line, the new Stealth 600 leverages Microsoft's new Xbox Wireless protocol to connect directly to your Xbox One or a compatible laptop, such as the upcoming Surface Book 2 15-inch model.
With 10 to 15 hours of battery life, mic-feedback monitoring, excellent audio, and a comfortable fit, the Stealth 600 is a great set for those who are reluctant to reach up to the higher price points. The Stealth 600 doesn't deliver audio as rich as Turtle Beach's Elite range, but Windows Sonic helps it punch far above its weight with surprisingly competent virtual surround sound. At just $95, you can't really go wrong here.
Astro's 2016 A50 revision is a great headset to consider if you're looking to go fully wireless. This premium headset packs great sound quality with Dolby 7.1 virtual surround speakers, sturdy build quality, and exceptional comfort, but that's not all!
The A50 headset also comes with a magnetic charging dock that allows you to keep your play space tidy, while also charging the headset's generous 15-hour-plus battery life.
The A50 headset might not pack all the sound features of its nearest competition, but it has it beat on voice recording quality. Either way, the A50 is a solid purchase at $300 that won't disappoint.
HyperX CloudX Pro.
Kingston is a relative newcomer to the Xbox headset market, but its early efforts have been nothing short of impressive. The company's HyperX CloudX headset might not have all of the features of the more expensive headsets on this list, but if you're looking for amazing sound without breaking the bank, you should definitely consider the HyperX CloudX for your console.
Almost addictively light and comfortable, the CloudX delivers big audio at an affordable $80 price point. HyperX also do an awesome Gears of War-style version of its CloudX Revolver headset, so make sure to give that a look too!
Turtle Beach Recon Chat.
If you're looking for something on the extremely budget conscious end of the spectrum, consider Turtle Beach's Recon Chat monopiece headset.
The Recon Chat headset provides surprisingly crystalline microphone chat audio, usable on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As a standard 3.5 mm interface, this can also be used with PC with some settings tinkering.
On Xbox One, the Recon Chat headset isolates your voice from the sounds of your TV, but features large channels to allow sound to enter the headset unobscured. It's also incredibly comfortable to wear, and at around $20, you'll be hard-pressed to find better value, if all you want is party chat and your existing external sound setup.
Important accessories.
If you're like me and still rock the Day One Edition controller, you may want to consider picking up a 3.5 mm adapter for use with headsets that don't support the Xbox One's base controller port. Microsoft's official adapter gives you mute controls and allows you to tune the balance between game sound and chat audio. It snaps snugly into the bottom of your controller and can be removed easily if necessary.
It's worth noting that most Xbox One headsets designed for 3.5 mm jacks come with adapters in the box, like each headset on this list.
It's also worth mentioning the official Xbox One QWERTY Chatpad as well. It includes a 3.5 mm jack, all the regular audio controls, and a full keyboard — handy for games with text chat like ARK: Survival Evolved, and for punching in those long product redemption codes. The official Xbox One Chatpad also comes with a basic single-piece headset, perfect for casual voice chat.

Choosing speaker audio settings on Xbox One.
If you're just plugging your Xbox into your TV, you won't need to change any audio settings since both sound and video go to your TV over the same HDMI cable. However, if you have an audio receiver or other sound setup, you may want to change your audio settings. In System > Settings > Display & sound > Audio output :
HDMI audio - Keep this set at Stereo uncompressed unless your HDMI cable is plugged into a receiver that can process 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed signals or bitstream formats. If your receiver works with these formats, select whichever one best matches your system.
Optical audio - If you don't have an optical (SPDIF) cable plugged into an audio receiver, don't worry about this setting. If you do, choose a setting that works with your sound system.
Bitstream format – Once you’ve set HDMI audio or Optical audio to Bitstream out , you can select one of these formats. These formats are typically used with compatible audio receivers or optical headphones. Formats labeled “HDMI only” will turn off Optical audio.
Note If you choose the DVI TV connection setting over in Video output , you can only get sound over optical audio, not HDMI.
Fury and Sound: The 7 Best Xbox One Headsets.
Microsoft was notoriously cagey when it came to gaming headsets with the Xbox 360. They didn’t want outside developers to be making anything that would work with their console, forcing gamers to use only MS approved products so they could get more of those sweet, sweet dollars. Even those that did work often did so with strange caveats and bugs that made them inferior. Thankfully, Microsoft has loosened their restrictions with the Xbox One and created a niche for third-party Xbox One headsets, making a richer market and offering more choices to the users.
Now, with a simple MS adapter, you can use whatever headphones you like with the Xbox One, but compatibility can be sketchy. In selecting our headsets we went only for those that either didn’t require an adapter, or used it without flaw. We wanted rich sound and sterling chat capabilities for those times when you’re taking on Crota (again) in Destiny or yelling at the Russian team in FIFA. For the best experience for any price, each of our 7 best Xbox One headsets will keep you on point.
HUHD 2.4Ghz Fiber-optical Wireless.
Pro: Inexpensive yet wireless.
Con: Mic is stiff and hard to adjust.
Budget Wireless: Wireless headphones are typically pretty costly, yet these manage to come in well under $100 for cord-cutting players looking to slash costs as well. They’re not going to give you the best sound, but for the scratch you lay down and a balance of features, quality, durability, cost, and, of course, wirelessness, these are top shelf. Nuances such as footsteps come through brightly on the 20-20,000 Hz frequency range and the staging gives you a good sense of where actions are taking place. These do a serviceable job of blocking out noise for better immersion, though the microphone is omni-directional and often picks up atmosphere around you. You’ll get relatively good wireless range, though try not to venture too far afield. [Purchase: $59]
Xbox One Armed Forces Special Edition.
Pro: Includes adapter for use with other systems.
Standard Issue: Just because you can go with aftermarket upgrades for your Xbox One headset doesn’t mean you need to. The standard stereo headphones from Microsoft are damn fine, and their special edition model is a whole lot of bang for a reasonable amount of bucks. You’ll get a nice frequency range of 20-20,000 Hz that capture all of the mids and highs, though the bass won’t really rock you with explosions. The unidirectional mic cuts down on ambient noise and tucks away neatly when you don’t need to curse a camper or congratulate your team. No batteries are necessary and the exacting interface between the Xbox and the headset make your outgoing audio commands come through loud and clear. [Purchase: $64]
Skullcandy SLYR for Xbox One.
Pro: Specifically made for the Xbox One.
Con: Works poorly with anything other than an Xbox One.
Most for the Money: Skullcandy was clearly not messing around when they designed the SLYR gaming headset, though we think there’s a typo in their price. These seem far too good to be worth only a C-Note. They start off with a GMX-1 mixer that jacks right into your controller comfortably with no interference in your grip and all buttons clearly marked for quick, tactile access during a frag-fest. Mic feedback is solid so you aren’t accidentally yelling at your friends. Skullcandy has been awfully recalcitrant about giving out specs, but these seem to land in the 10-20,000 Hz range with more emphasis put on bass than on mids or highs, which give gunfire and explosions a nice, visceral feel. The staging can be strange with background noises feeling too far away and near sounds feeling a bit too close, but that’s subject to interpretation. [Purchase: $100]
Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Seven.
Pro: Passive noise cancellation.
Con: Removable mic is typically inconvenient.
Sound Off: Turtle Beach was one of the first manufacturers to make a gaming headset for the Xbox One and their XO line is still among the best in the business. You can use the Four or the Seven and get exceptional sound along with a simple, MS-friendly interface, but expect the Seven to win in every category. With big 50mm neodymium drivers wrapped in comfortable memory foam, the sound staging and comfort are ideal. Each of the thick earcups provides enough isolation to allow these to work as noise-cancelling headphones for better immersion. Despite their size, they come in at a reasonable 12 oz to reduce fatigue. They claim mobile compatibility, but their features are hit-or-miss. The uni-directional mic is removable, but that’s as much of a hindrance as a help. Frequency response lands in the 20-20,000 Hz range. [Purchase: $155]
Sennheiser G4ME ONE.
Con: Not specifically meant for Xbox One.
All-Purpose: You’re going to need to get the Xbox One adapter for this, but it uses it to the best effect and allows you to switch quickly to a PS4 or PC rig without causing a drop in quality. These have a 50 ohm impedance that leverages more power but really makes audio pop while the open-backed design gives you more comfort and ventilation than most of the closed model Xbox One headsets out there. You’ll get a little bleed, but it’s a small price to pay for some of the most astounding gaming audio you can get. These are engineered specifically to work with every kind of game, whether you’re an FPS elite sniper, an RPG maven, or the maverick of the RTS arena. Chat is completely clear without overshadowing game noises and the overall responsiveness works for fast-paced games that necessitate communication. [Purchase: $180]
Astro A40 with M80 Mix Amp.
Pro: Easy tactile adjustments.
Con: Drains controller battery.
More Power: Rather than relying on the adapter from Microsoft, these A40’s come equipped with their own mixing amp that jacks right into the controller and give so much more than just a different plug. With it you get not only voice balance and a simple mute feature, but an adjustable EQ that lets you get as much bass as your ears can stand. Switch between the bangs and burst-fire from COD and into the more refined Shadow of Morder without missing a beat. Voice chat and volume are easily changed without taking your eyes off the screen. This easy access is undermined by the quick drain that the Amp puts on your controller’s battery life. If you enjoy true 7.1 surround, you can upgrade to the A50’s, or spend the same amount and get the A40 system bundle if you prefer. [Purchase: $200]
Turtle Beach Ear Force Stealth 500X.
Pro: Deep, directional sound.
Con: Microphone is awkward.
Premium Wireless: Full-blown 7.1 channel DTS surround sound without being tethered to your controller is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the 500X. Bearing an over-ear headphone design that is light and comfortable along with 50mm neodymium drivers, dynamic chat boost, and mic monitoring, total control is at your fingertips. Syncing up with most mobile devices and able to bring text and call notifications, you’ll be free and clear even when the flash-bangs aren’t flying. The true 360 degree sound stage is strikingly effective with no sound delay or drops. Tack on a rechargeable battery with a 15 hour life span and you’re getting a lot for your money. [Purchase: $200]

Best Xbox One Headset.
If you’re a gamer who knows what they want, and that’s the best Xbox One headset – well, we’ve got some good news for you.
After inspecting, experimenting, and generally tinkering with a flood of the latest gaming headphones for consoles, we’ve narrowed down the selection to the best Xbox One headset…and come up with the one headset you can’t do without.
Best Xbox One Headsets.
#1 Pick Astro A50 Headset: Halo Xbox One Edition – Best Overall Wireless Gaming Headset.
The best Xbox One headset is a wireless beast that accepts no compromises.
WHY IT’S A TOP PICK: Amazing, customizable wireless sound and surprisingly comfortable.
Astro makes a great gaming headset, no doubt, but the moment I picked up the weighty A50 it was obvious that this was something special. From excellent 7.1 surround sound capabilities to extra features that you’ll actually use, this best Xbox One headset puts all other contenders to shame. Others have their perks, but this Astro model brings the best specs together in one stellar package. Here’s just some of the features that I couldn’t get enough of:
Wireless Features: Yep, the headset is wireless (and more on this down below, where I mention an important caveat). That means fewer cords to deal with: It also means I actually had a sexy stand to put the headphones down for recharging when I wasn’t using them, which I actually preferred to leaving a tangle on the sofa. EQ Customization: A whole lot of gaming headphones out there come with EQ settings, but Astro has done a great job making these settings something that you’ll actually tinker with. One setting is made for general, raid-oriented multiplayer. One setting is designed specifically for FPS games. The final setting is made for watching movies quietly. It’s worth noting here that the latest A50s also fit on Vive, Oculus, and similar VR headsets for a more immersive experience. Battery Life: These headphones seem to last around 10 to 12 hours, a very respectable number considering the other features that the A50 is juggling. Organic Mic: The mic is large and powerful on the A50, and it has a really cool feature that lets you instantly mute just by flipping it up, which is a great gaming accessory feature for dealing with interruptions. Fit: The headphones are a little tight, but far from uncomfortable. The extra-large over ear design never troubled me, and the padding is very utilitarian – these ear cups are here for business, and that business is delivering top-notch sound right to your noggin. It’s a good thing that the headband is so broad and supportive, because this is a pretty weighty pair of headphones.
One point that definitely needs clarification for this gaming headset is the wireless feature. If you’ve looked at wireless headphones for Xbox One before, you probably know that they aren’t always that “wireless,” since they often need a connection to the Xbox controller (proprietary hardware is usually the issue here). The latest version of the A50s made for Xbox come with a base station augmentation that helps provide real wireless sound – it’s a little more time consuming to set up and requires a clear signal to use, but it works. Note that these models still come with headset cables for tethering if necessary, and that Astro is working on providing mod kits for PS4 A50s that will also allow you to use them on Xbox One. However, these mods only apply to the latest, Gen 3 A50 headests.
#2 Pick Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Seven Pro Premium – Most Durable Xbox Headset.
Turtle Beach is known for its comfortable gaming headphones…which still sound great.
WHY IT’S A TOP PICK: Audio customization for sound identification.
Turtle Beach has remarkable gaming headsets within a certain price range, and despite the long name this Ear Force model is one of the top models available for Xbox One players. There are plenty of presets and settings for everything on this headset, including audio customization for everything from hearing soft footstep sounds (stealth or survival) to placing more emphasis on other natural noises (RPGs and sandboxes). There are also plenty of EQ options for enhancing bass, treble, and more classic options. The drivers are 50mm, which means an emphasis on bass sounds right from the start.
Please note that there are several different versions of these headphones: I recommend the Pro model because you get some of the most useful features, and the price difference is still manageable, but you may want to look through the other options, too – and take a look at my other Turtle Beach recommendation on this list.
#3 Pick Plantronics Rig Flex LX – Most Affordable Alternative Xbox One Headset.
The Xbox-compatible version of this headset is affordable, lightweight, and has great sound.
Price : $53.99 | Weight : 7 ounces | Connectivity : small cable with inline mic and longer cable with headset mic.
WHY IT’S A TOP PICK: Lightweight, comfortable, and affordable.
These lightweight headphones have great clarity and are perfect for less intense gaming sessions when you want something easy and comfortable to wear. While some of the other headsets sounded better to me, it’s easy to see what the Rig Flex models are so popular: They tone down the features and size to provide a headset that focuses on fidelity, with a price everyone can afford. Notably the mic has options for both mobile gaming and more serious console sessions where quality is more important.
You’ll need to be careful with this headset, because the Flex isn’t always packaged with an Xbox One adapter for the Xbox controller. This adapter is absolutely necessary to use the headset with Microsoft’s console. Look for Rig Flex LX options that are specifically compatible with Xbox and ship with the adapter…or buy a different adapter of your own.
#4 Pick Turtle Beach Wireless Ear Force Stealth 500X – Best Xbox One Audio Customization.
Turtle Beach has a great – and lightweight – wireless headset with the 500X.
WHY IT’S A TOP PICK: Tetherless, wireless connections and great genre-specific audio customization.
Why did I put two Turtle Beach headsets on the list? Well, the Stealth 500x feels like a different headset than the Pro, especially when it comes to 1) full wireless capabilities, including no tether required, and 2) surround sound. Also, while the heavy bass-driven 50mm drivers are the same, the audio options are entirely different. They focus more on chat boost, surround sound modes, and audio presets for specific genres – customization more suited toward FPS and multiplayer in general. That surround sound option is tough to beat, and you can even download additional presets for more options. The downside is that these presets tend to lower battery life down to 10 hours, which is a little too low in today’s market.
#5 Pick Astro A40 Wireless Gaming Headset – Best Mid-Tier Headset Option.
The A40 is a cheaper headset than the A50, but still has incredible clarity.
WHY IT’S A TOP PICK: Xbox personalization, low distortation, and some fun decal options.
This Astro headset, lighter than the A50, comes with a special Xbox edition so that compatibility is assured (as well as a Halo aesthetic). It focuses a bit more on personalization than the A50, allowing you to adjust the game-to-voice audio balancing to exactly what you want.
Moreover, like the other high-Astro options there’s basically no distortion, the ear cups are large and comfortable, and you can personalize the headphones with a variety of stickers if that’s your thing. This model, the A40, may not be as good for chatting as the A50s, or have as wide of a frequency range, but they are a less expensive option for gamers who still want a top-quality headset.
Note: while the headphones are wireless, they still need a tether to your controller.
What to Look for in the Best Xbox One Headsets.
Xbox Compatibility : Look for headsets made to work with the Xbox One controller, or that come with adapters for this purpose.
Audio Customization : Some audio customization is a good thing (too much isn’t – check out the Mistakes to Avoid below). Look for options to adjust audio balance or pick different presets based on the games that you play.
Chatting Features : Features like easy muting, noise cancellation, and picking out particular chat sounds to enhance will make all your party-ups much, much smoother. Don’t buy a cheap mic!
Low Distortion : Distortion tends to be particular important with Xbox headsets because tethering to your controller exacerbates any underlying distortion issues. Look for low distortion ratings where you can find them.
Comfort : Often gaming headsets come with inform on headband pressure and other information showing you how tightly they rest. There’s a lot of variance here, but headphones that are too tight aren’t usually worth it: Don’t assume that a headset will “loosen up” over time.
Mistakes to Avoid.
First, never assume that a headset will work with your Xbox. Many PC gaming headsets are easily compatible with PlayStation, but not with Xbox One: This happens because of different formats, tech copyright laws, and many other complex but unfortunate reasons.
Also, don’t buy based solely on appearance. Some Xbox headsets are really, really good at looking cool – but don’t have the competitive sound or features that make them worthwhile. Big headphones tend to have deeper bass and more uncomfortable ear cups…but not necessarily better quality.
Finally, be careful of too many customization features. I know I recommended headsets with plenty of setting options, but this isn’t always a good thing. In reality, most gamers find only a couple presets they like and switch between them.
Most Important Features.
Ear Cup Quality : Look for ear cups that rest around your ears without squeezing any part of them. Ear cup material should be flexible but also firm, not too plushy and not too fake-leathery. Ear cups tend to wear down quickly, so durability is very important here. Battery Life : Battery life for wireless headsets is slowly but surely heading closer to 20 hours per charge. That being said, some headsets are still stuck down toward 10 hours. Frequently storing of the headset on the charging cradle will help this from becoming an issue. Mic : The microphone for your headset needs to be unobtrusive but also easy to adjust. The best mics can be quickly flipped up or changed for different purposes – or are hidden in the ear cups altogether. Fidelity : Fidelity refers generally to how powerful and clear sounds are. Look for headphones that have very accurate frequency responses and high fidelity for a great sound experience. Surround sound can often help here.
Which Best Xbox One Headset is for You?
If you have any preexisting loyalties to the Astro or Turtle Beach brands, your choices should be very easy here – just base them on your current headphone budget. If you would rather go lighter and cheaper, then the Plantronics option is probably better for you. If you really don’t care and just want the absolute best sound experience you can get on Xbox One, the tethered A50 is where it’s at.

My Astro A50 was a bitter-sweet experience that ended with the A50’s in the trash, and high expectations. The A50’s have fantastic sound and comfort. It’s up there with my other high-end headphones. But they had two flaws that made them useless. 1. Wi-Fi. They rely on 802.11 5Ghz WiFi. Great range and bandwidth, but if your XBox (and the A50 “base-station” that gets the Audio feed via optical from Xbox) is close to your WiFi Router – it kills the WiFi with interference. My audio cuts out and Netflix stops streaming on another device if we try to do both at once. Guess what my wife is generally doing when I play Xbox? Switched routers and houses. Same issue. 2. The microphone pickup is awful. I was told I sounded very far away from the mic despite it being almost inside my mouth. The A50’s still need to be tethered to your xbox controller if you want the microphone to “work”. I just got the Hyper-X Cloud X which works well so far, but the audio quality comes nowhere near the A50. What to do?? How hard can it be?? I just want reliable (preferably wireless, but at this point I don’t really care) high quality amplified audio and clear microphone pickup, so I can play games and chat when necessary for game play.
Turtle beach seven pro aren’t surround sound. FYI.
You’re right, that was just a mistaken check on our table. I think these Pro headphones do work to bring surround sound benefits at a lower price with “superhuman hearing mode,” but it does remain a long shot from actual surround sound.
I have a set that claims superhuman hearing (press the button and you hear “super human hearing on/off”)in an Android like voice i still can’t hear any difference ,saying that there for my ps4 pro and when there’s shots fired i know exactly what direction it’s coming from,I have been told i can’t get 7.1 on my xbox.
For this list to have been updated 5 days ago on 26 Dec., you sure don’t know much about the Astro A50’s. They are completely wireless now.
Thank you for your attention to detail! Since this is an important point for Xbox players, I will address this in greater detail in the article so that gamers can know what to expect from the A50 gen 3 mod kits, which do indeed allow for wireless sound.
The astro a50 are horrible I’ve owned them for about a year, they sound great but have problems at least once a month where I have to re install software, or frequently let the battery drain all the way to get them to work not worth the amount I paid for them.
so true…and the cloth earcups make your ears sweat after a moderate amount of playing time.
although this was for the gen 2…the gen 3 set looks to have fixed some things including full wireless capability.
