How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC.
Many PC games let you play with an Xbox Wireless Controller instead of a keyboard or mouse. You can connect your controller to a Windows PC by using a USB cable, the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, or over Bluetooth. Some PCs also come with Xbox Wireless built in, so you can connect a controller directly without an adapter.
Windows 10 PC.
Plug a USB charging cable into the front of the controller and plug the other end into your PC.
With USB connections, you can connect 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers at the same time, or 4 controllers that have Xbox Chat Headsets attached. If the controllers have Xbox Stereo Headsets, only 2 can be connected at the same time.
Option 2: Xbox Wireless (Built-in or with Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows)
Choose Add Bluetooth or other device .
Select Everything else .
Select Xbox Wireless Controller .
Click Done .
With Xbox Wireless connections, you can connect 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers at the same time, or 4 controllers that have Xbox Chat Headsets attached. If the controllers have Xbox Stereo Headsets, only 2 can be connected at the same time.

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows may not be available in all markets. When Airplane mode is on, the Xbox Accessories Radio is turned off by default. You will need to turn it back on if you want to use this function while in Airplane mode.
Xbox One Wireless Controllers may support connecting to your PC via Bluetooth. Your controller has this feature if it looks like the one on bottom in this illustration:
On Bluetooth-supported controllers, the plastic around the Xbox button is part of the face of the controller. On controllers without Bluetooth, the plastic around the Xbox button is part of the top, where the bumpers are.
Bluetooth requires a PC running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. See Windows Update: FAQ to learn how to get the latest Windows update. For best performance, update your controller. See How to update your Xbox One Controller on Windows 10. Bluetooth is supported on PCs, tablets, and laptops. It is not supported on mobile devices. Bluetooth does not support any attachments, such as headsets, chatpads, or the Xbox Stereo Adapter. We recommend connecting only one controller at a time using Bluetooth.
Follow these steps to pair your controller to your PC using Bluetooth:
Make sure you have updated your PC to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. See Windows Update: FAQ to learn how to get the latest Windows update. For best performance, update your controller. See How to update your Xbox One Controller on Windows 10. Turn on your Xbox Wireless Controller by pressing the Xbox button . Press the controller bind button for three seconds and release.
On your PC, select Start, then Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices . Turn on Bluetooth so your PC can discover Bluetooth devices.
Select Xbox Wireless Controller > Pair .
Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.
When you connect an Xbox Wireless Controller to your Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 PC with a micro-USB cable, Windows will automatically download and install the drivers for the controller. If Windows is not set to automatically download device software, you can check for updates through Device Manager.
Update drivers through Device Manager.
Here’s how to check for updates manually in the Device Manager:
Point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then select Search . Enter Device Manager in the search box, and then select Device Manager .
Note Windows may ask you for an administrator password or to confirm your choice. Locate and expand Microsoft Xbox One Controller . Right-click the expanded Microsoft Xbox One Controller and select Update Driver Software . Select Search Automatically for Updated Software .
With Xbox Wireless or USB connections, you can connect 4 Xbox Wireless Controllers at the same time. You won’t get audio through the controller so there’s no need to connect a headset. Bluetooth connections are not supported.
If the controller doesn't respond, try a different micro-USB cable. To use your Xbox Wireless Controller with your console after using it with a PC, you must re-sync the controller to the console. You can do this by using the wireless sync button or a USB cable. For details, see Connect a wireless Xbox One controller to your console. This information applies only to Xbox One Wireless Controllers. For help with other gamepads or joysticks or for information on configuring a specific game so that you can play it with a controller, refer to the manufacturer’s website.

When you update your controller with the latest software, you get full use of your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter capabilities, plus important controller improvements. You can update your controller wirelessly or via USB. For assistance with troubleshooting update issues, see Troubleshoot update issues with your Xbox One Controller.

An Xbox One Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting via USB cable. This controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom of the controller; controllers without this port must update via USB cable.
Follow these steps to update your controller wirelessly and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter:
Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so. If you have a stereo headset adapter, plug it into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on). Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select System > Kinect & devices > Devices & accessories , and then select the controller you want to update. Select Device info , select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue . When the update is complete, you can update additional controllers. If they can only be updated via USB, see Update via USB. Otherwise, select the Update another button on the screen after the first update is complete, and then follow the steps.
The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you plugged your stereo headset adapter into the controller while downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To resolve this, go to the Home screen and unplug the adapter. Then, re-plug the adapter into the controller. You only need to update your controller one time to use the stereo headset adapter. However, if you plan to use the stereo headset adapter with other Xbox One controllers, you’ll need to follow this process for each controller. Additionally, check for new updates periodically as Xbox frequently ships new controller features and improvements. If you try to update a controller that was already updated, the system will check the controller and proceed to the success screen within a few seconds to indicate that it’s already updated.
Follow these steps to update your controller via USB and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter:

Instructions to install the update should automatically appear. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. (The process can take up to 3 minutes.)
If instructions to install the update don’t automatically appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press the Xbox button to open the guide, select System > Kinect & devices > Devices & accessories , and then select the controller you want to update. Select Device info , select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue . When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a time, select the Update another button on the screen, and then follow the steps.
Press the Xbox button on the wireless controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up to date, and you’re ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

Get the app from Microsoft Windows 10 by searching for "Xbox Accessories." Launch the Xbox Accessories app. Connect your Xbox One Wireless Controller by using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
Note You'll be prompted to update to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition if you haven't yet done so. When the controller is connected, you'll see the message Update Required if an update is mandatory. Install the update.
Note You can also go to Device Info to check for an update.
The Xbox Accessories app is available only on Windows 10. Controllers that don't have a built-in 3.5-mm audio port must be updated using a USB connection and must have the Windows 10 TH2 Update (or later). Triple the cost & more features but workmanship worse.
Xbox Elite controller owner since day one release. First controller failed just after 3 months. Left bumper plastic clip broke leaving the bumper free to swing like a door. Upper right paddle button stopped working. After a spending several hours on the phone with MS Support they finally swapped the controller even though it had past its 90 day warranty. That's right the same warranty they provide for a $20 headset is the same warranty for a $150 Wireless controller. (Unless you bought the console controller bundle then you get the full year.) The replacement controller failed after 4 months with right stick drifting issues and the left bumper clip breaking again. Purchased 3rd controller from local store with 2 yr extended warranty. This one is now being replaced due to right stick drifting issues, bumper failure and paddle buttons not clicking. I would like to write about what I like about the controller but MS only gives me 1000 characters, I'm out of room. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

Wears out fast.
The RB button broke within 6 months, left thumbstick will act up and move your aim in shooting games when not touching it after about 6 months, the rubber handgrips are also falling off. If it had a year long warrenty it'd be way better. HUUUGE waste of money in the long run, SAD.

Busted bumper.
Controller feels solidly made. Fit and finish seem acceptable. But, within 30 days the right bumper broke, as has been extensively documented in these reviews and those elsewhere. In my case, the failure was within the 90 day warranty period. As stated elsewhere, this warranty is criminally short for a product of this expense. Purchase at your own risk.

I have had my elete controler for less than 1 year. I love everything about the controller (when it is working!) I knew I had a problem when the controller wouldn't stay synced to my Xbox unless I had the micro usb cable plugged into it, essentially making it a wired controler. I have watched countless YouTube videos on how to fix the issue. New batteries, power cycled my Xbox, updated controler. You name it is tried it. Microsoft suggested I purchase a new controler. My original controler that came with my Xbox still works perfectly! I spent 150$ on this beast. I'd say worth every penny if it worked. I don't make a ton of money and I'm just disappointed that my elete controler didn't even last one year when the original I have had twice as long still works just fine. I'm more dissatisfied with the customer service I received from Microsoft. I buy Microsoft products because I feel they are the best, but Microsoft makes it hard to be a loyal customer with poor customer service. Great controler (when it works) buy at your own risk. Once you purchase this controler if it malfunctions your stuck with an expencive paper weight.

Works great till it breaks.
I agree with a lot of the reviews here. This controller is great in every aspect of gaming. Everything feels fresh and tactile. The weight was also a big thing that made this controller great for me. Unfortunately like others I only got to use my controller for about 6 months until the Left Bumper just fell off. I take great care of things and would never do something like throw them. So when this happened I was extremely disappointed. If you're looking for a great 6 month controller, this is it. (Model 1698 if anyone was wondering).

DO NOT WATSE YOUR MONEY.
I have gone through two of these controllers. On my first one, the thumb sticks broke and for the second one the back rubber gripping fell off and the same thumbstick issue. I really don't see how they value this controller at 150 dollars. When issues come up on the controller Microsoft policy on a premium controller is absolutely crap. If you want one buy it but pray that you will not have any issues.

Back grips is coming off.right bumper broke.Must games i have tried to use the hair trigger switch thing.Doesnt work to fire the guns in the game .I wouldnt tell anyone to buy a elite controller.They better off just mailing microsoft the cash and keep using a normal controller.

Piece of trash.
Keep loosing the buttons beacause they are on there with magnetics so whenever you flick up or anything like that the button flys of the taller buttons are impossible to use and the peddles on the back are way to sensitive wish I could rate a 0 star.

Quality is just the same as original controller.
It's just a regular controller with more weight and more mappable buttons. Bumper broke and 90 day warrenty conveniently ended before. sweet.
