Xbox One Controller. Tens of millions of dollars have gone into the development of the Xbox One controller and hundreds of mockups were created in order for Microsoft to nail the perfect design of the Xbox One controller, without throwing out the so much loved Xbox 360 design. At a glance, the Xbox One Controller is quite similar to the Xbox 360's Controller, with a different handle contour, but with off-set analog sticks, the A, B, X and Y face buttons, a directional pad, and two buttons, Menu and View, where Start and Back were. Microsoft has confirmed via twitter that up to 8 controllers can be used compared to the 4 supported on PS4. The day one controller has special text in the middle and has a metallic d-Pad compared to the standard black. The controller maintains the overall design of the Xbox 360 controller but features 40 minor and major design improvements, according to Microsoft that makes the controller more comftorable and more intuitive. The directional pad has a more traditional design compared to previous Xbox controllers, and the battery compartment is slimmer. The triggers will have built-in rumble system called "Impulse Triggers" which is forced vibration built directly into the triggers, which is used in games like Forza. The Xbox One Controller features a slightly altered design from the Xbox 360 controller and some new features: Trigger Rumble Motors Battery pack flush with controller Plus-shaped D-Pad (mechanical) Haptic feedback triggers Grip texture around sticks Faster response time Micro-USB port IR sensors for Kinect interactivity. EditCharging and Battery. Charging your Xbox One controller will be done via micro-USB cable (not included) . The controller will take standard or rechargeable AA batteries in a new integrated battery compartment that doesn't bulge out as it did previously. When you plug a micro-USB cable into the controller for wired play the internal radio is shut off and all data is transmitted through the wire. In this mode the controller can be used without batteries. The new controller will also feature a low power state to help conserve battery life when it is not in use, so you can rest assured knowing that it won't be needlessly draining energy while watching a movie or when away from the console. The technology can also be used so that Kinect can pair the controller with the person holding it, so that if a couple of friends were enjoying a multi-player game, the console can configure the split-screen positions based on where each is sitting. Insert the battery pack that came with your Xbox One Play & Charge Kit into your Xbox One Wireless Controller, and charge it using the charge cable included in the kit. Insert the battery pack. Standard AA (LR6) batteries work in your Xbox One Wireless Controller, and so do rechargeable AA (LR6) batteries. Regular rechargeable batteries don’t charge in the controller. Recharge other batteries by the method recommended by the manufacturer. Troubleshooting. From time to time, it’s a good idea to clean the battery contacts with a dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Don’t use water or chemicals, which can damage the contacts. If the LED on the charge cable is not lit, make sure your battery is in place and the cable is properly inserted into the controller and console. Triple the cost & more features but workmanship worse. Xbox Elite controller owner since day one release. First controller failed just after 3 months. Left bumper plastic clip broke leaving the bumper free to swing like a door. Upper right paddle button stopped working. After a spending several hours on the phone with MS Support they finally swapped the controller even though it had past its 90 day warranty. That's right the same warranty they provide for a $20 headset is the same warranty for a $150 Wireless controller. (Unless you bought the console controller bundle then you get the full year.) The replacement controller failed after 4 months with right stick drifting issues and the left bumper clip breaking again. Purchased 3rd controller from local store with 2 yr extended warranty. This one is now being replaced due to right stick drifting issues, bumper failure and paddle buttons not clicking. I would like to write about what I like about the controller but MS only gives me 1000 characters, I'm out of room. The RB button broke within 6 months, left thumbstick will act up and move your aim in shooting games when not touching it after about 6 months, the rubber handgrips are also falling off. Fit and finish seem acceptable. But, within 30 days the right bumper broke, as has been extensively documented in these reviews and those elsewhere. In my case, the failure was within the 90 day warranty period. As stated elsewhere, this warranty is criminally short for a product of this expense. I knew I had a problem when the controller wouldn't stay synced to my Xbox unless I had the micro usb cable plugged into it, essentially making it a wired controler. I have watched countless YouTube videos on how to fix the issue. New batteries, power cycled my Xbox, updated controler. You name it is tried it. Microsoft suggested I purchase a new controler. My original controler that came with my Xbox still works perfectly! I spent 150$ on this beast. I'd say worth every penny if it worked. I don't make a ton of money and I'm just disappointed that my elete controler didn't even last one year when the original I have had twice as long still works just fine. I'm more dissatisfied with the customer service I received from Microsoft. I buy Microsoft products because I feel they are the best, but Microsoft makes it hard to be a loyal customer with poor customer service. Great controler (when it works) buy at your own risk. We have tried many alkaline batteries like Duracell and Energizer and rechargeable ones and their duration is very frustrating and disappointing, we play mostly games like Call of duty, Halo, Destiny, Grand theft auto and Minecraft. I use the original Xbox One Controller and my hubby uses the SCUF One controllers. I really hate seeing this message often that indicates the battery level is low. There are extende life rechargeable batteries, last twice as much but cost twice as much, I don´t know in which country you are but Sony is one brand that can be found in any country. I've found higher mAh batteries tend to do worse because they have high self discharge rates. Just get some quality 2000mah Ni-MH batteries, and more important, a good charger that charges each cell individually. A lot of them charge them in pairs which tends to give you a partial charge on one as they're never exactly even. I got some Eneloop ones because they're supposed to have a very low self discharge rate. I just keep a bunch of them by the charger so I'm ready to swap for my Xbox, Wii, and remote controls whenever they need it. For around $20 you'll get a charger and a pack of AA batteries. Amazon Basics. We previously covered the Panasonic Eneloop charge dock, which allows you to charge four Xbox controller-compatible AA batteries simultaneously, but Amazon itself provides a similar solution that also comes with a USB socket to charge a separate device. A colleague here at Mobile Nations mentioned that the Amazon Basics solution is just as good as Panasonic's Eneloop dock, and shouldn't be overlooked due to the branding. The Amazon dock has a faster estimated recharge time than the Eneloop solution, but you might find Amazon's batteries don't last as long over time, particularly after several recharges. The Eneloop option might be a better long-term solution, but if you want to leave a phone charging on the same outlet overnight, this might be more convenient. Additionally (and annoyingly), the Amazon Basics pack will only allow you to charge batteries in pairs, whereas Eneloop's can charge any combination of batteries. The price of $14 will net you just the charger, it appears. Batteries are sold separately. Smatree Rechargeable batteries. This is a double NI-MH battery charging solution for Xbox One that lets you charge a replacement battery while using the other one. Smatree claims that its batteries provide longer lasting life than Microsoft's batteries, and that sentiment seems to be reflected in the product's Amazon reviews. The batteries have over-charging protection, which means they might appear as though they don't have a full charge when in use. However, they still last around 30 hours on a single charge, according to the reviews. When the batteries have hit their overcharge limit of six to seven hours, a green light indicates that they're ready to use. Having a new battery ready at all times should eliminate the need to ever plug your controller in. This costs around $24. Nyko Charge Block. The Nyko Charge Block batteries aren't as potent as the official Xbox ones, but they offer the ability to keep multiple controllers charged on a single USB socket. Nyko Charge Blocks can be purchased as single items, and they can also be daisy-chained together to easily charge several controllers (even from different consoles). The batteries clock in at 1,200mAh, which is a little smaller than the official Microsoft batteries, but they will be adequate for most sessions — and when you're done all you have to do is drop the charger on the dock to charge them. $30 will net you a Nyko Charge Block. Fosmon Charge Dock. The Fosmon Charge Dock has very high consumer review scores on Amazon, making it another worthy option. The dock is suitable for charging two Xbox One controllers, and it also supports the Xbox One S controller (although, not the Battlefield 1 storm gray controller). The dock uses 800mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries, and it reportedly offers 25 to 28 hours of continuous play with a lifespan of over 1,000 charges. Judging by the comments, these NiMH batteries are comparable to modern Eneloop-style rechargeable packs, which hold a charge better when not in use versus some older NiMH battery types. The dock also has a green LED charge indicator and a 3.5-foot USB power cable with barriers that replace the standard housing found on the Xbox controllers. The Fosmon Charge Dock costs around $23.
