Triple the cost & more features but workmanship worse. Xbox Elite controller owner since day one release. First controller failed just after 3 months. Left bumper plastic clip broke leaving the bumper free to swing like a door. Upper right paddle button stopped working. After a spending several hours on the phone with MS Support they finally swapped the controller even though it had past its 90 day warranty. That's right the same warranty they provide for a $20 headset is the same warranty for a $150 Wireless controller. (Unless you bought the console controller bundle then you get the full year.) The replacement controller failed after 4 months with right stick drifting issues and the left bumper clip breaking again. Purchased 3rd controller from local store with 2 yr extended warranty. This one is now being replaced due to right stick drifting issues, bumper failure and paddle buttons not clicking. I would like to write about what I like about the controller but MS only gives me 1000 characters, I'm out of room. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. 28 out of 31 people found this helpful. the only bad thing is the grips fell apart and did not hold up. 7 out of 7 people found this helpful. Wears out fast. The RB button broke within 6 months, left thumbstick will act up and move your aim in shooting games when not touching it after about 6 months, the rubber handgrips are also falling off. If it had a year long warrenty it'd be way better. HUUUGE waste of money in the long run, SAD. 22 out of 26 people found this helpful. Busted bumper. Controller feels solidly made. Fit and finish seem acceptable. But, within 30 days the right bumper broke, as has been extensively documented in these reviews and those elsewhere. In my case, the failure was within the 90 day warranty period. As stated elsewhere, this warranty is criminally short for a product of this expense. Purchase at your own risk. 27 out of 35 people found this helpful. I have had my elete controler for less than 1 year. I love everything about the controller (when it is working!) I knew I had a problem when the controller wouldn't stay synced to my Xbox unless I had the micro usb cable plugged into it, essentially making it a wired controler. I have watched countless YouTube videos on how to fix the issue. New batteries, power cycled my Xbox, updated controler. You name it is tried it. Microsoft suggested I purchase a new controler. My original controler that came with my Xbox still works perfectly! I spent 150$ on this beast. I'd say worth every penny if it worked. I don't make a ton of money and I'm just disappointed that my elete controler didn't even last one year when the original I have had twice as long still works just fine. I'm more dissatisfied with the customer service I received from Microsoft. I buy Microsoft products because I feel they are the best, but Microsoft makes it hard to be a loyal customer with poor customer service. Great controler (when it works) buy at your own risk. Once you purchase this controler if it malfunctions your stuck with an expencive paper weight. 8 out of 9 people found this helpful. Works great till it breaks. I agree with a lot of the reviews here. This controller is great in every aspect of gaming. Everything feels fresh and tactile. The weight was also a big thing that made this controller great for me. Unfortunately like others I only got to use my controller for about 6 months until the Left Bumper just fell off. I take great care of things and would never do something like throw them. So when this happened I was extremely disappointed. If you're looking for a great 6 month controller, this is it. (Model 1698 if anyone was wondering). 4 out of 5 people found this helpful. DO NOT WATSE YOUR MONEY. I have gone through two of these controllers. On my first one, the thumb sticks broke and for the second one the back rubber gripping fell off and the same thumbstick issue. I really don't see how they value this controller at 150 dollars. When issues come up on the controller Microsoft policy on a premium controller is absolutely crap. If you want one buy it but pray that you will not have any issues. 11 out of 14 people found this helpful. waste of a 150 bucks.too bad i cannt rate the thing 0. Back grips is coming off.right bumper broke.Must games i have tried to use the hair trigger switch thing.Doesnt work to fire the guns in the game .I wouldnt tell anyone to buy a elite controller. They better off just mailing microsoft the cash and keep using a normal controller. 20 out of 28 people found this helpful. Piece of trash. Keep loosing the buttons beacause they are on there with magnetics so whenever you flick up or anything like that the button flys of the taller buttons are impossible to use and the peddles on the back are way to sensitive wish I could rate a 0 star. 20 out of 29 people found this helpful. Quality is just the same as original controller. It's just a regular controller with more weight and more mappable buttons. Bumper broke and 90 day warrenty conveniently ended before. sweet. 14 out of 19 people found this helpful. Translate to English. Язык Microsoft Store: United States - English. Should you really spend £130 on an Xbox One controller? Ever since Microsoft unveiled the customisable Xbox One Elite Controller at E3 2015, there’s been quite the buzz around it. Going on sale alongside the long-awaited Halo 5: Guardians, the professional eSports-grade pad has proved exceedingly popular and is still seeing limited stock levels at most major retailers. But as you refresh that Amazon page for the millionth time, you might want to take some time to consider whether the Xbox One Elite is really worth the investment, even if it can now be had for less than its original £130 RRP. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – Price. The first stumbling block for the Xbox One Elite Controller is the price. If you want to buy a regular pad, you’re looking at an investment of around £45 or £50 with the Play and Charge Kit as well. Due to stock issues, we’re currently seeing the Xbox One Elite Controller retail for around £175, so make sure you wait for some fresh stock before hitting that Buy Now button. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – Design. The most obvious change with the Xbox One Elite Controller is its visual design. It’s still got the same genetic make-up as the original Wireless Controller, but it now features a matte black finish with metal detailing, as well as customisable paddle, analogue stick and D-pad options. The interchangeable items can be swapped out for the other options you’ll find in the box, and it’s all done via magnets. Sign up for the newsletter. Get news, competitions and special offers direct to your inbox. It’s worth noting that the Xbox One Elite Controller comes with a braided Micro USB cable too, which is an absolute necessity for tournaments. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – Triggers and Bumpers. Although we much prefer the force feedback triggers of the regular Xbox One pad to the PS4’s DualShock 4, the Elite Controller takes it all a step further. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – Analogue Sticks. As we’ve mentioned before, the Elite Controller improves the durability of the regular analogue sticks with a reinforced ring. But there’s much more to the Elite’s sticks than that. When you open the carry case for the Elite Controller, the pad is kitted out with similar analogue sticks to the regular controller – albeit reinforced with metal. They’re the standard concave version with a grip around the edge. But underneath the controller sit two additional options in the case. First up you’ve got the tall versions of the concave sticks, but you’ve also got a set of domed analogue sticks that fall in between the other two options in terms of height. The customisations go further than that when you get into the Xbox Accessories app, with the option to choose from various sensitivity curves ranging from Delay or Smooth to Aggressive or Instant. Having the option to really drill down into the sensitivity of your sticks and having the choice of swapping out for alternative options is definitely a boon over the regular pad. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – Buttons and Paddles. Aside from the swappable analogue sticks and D-pad, the big bonus of having the Xbox One Elite Controller is the fact that the Xbox Accessories app allows you to completely customise your button mapping. You can even add four extra buttons using the four paddles on the rear of the Elite Controller. These will automatically be assigned to the four face buttons, so you don’t need to move your thumb as much – thus decreasing reaction times. For us, the paddles initially became useful as an alternative to the L3 and R3 button presses, as it’s much faster to sprint away from enemies this way. The Elite Controller can store two button configurations at any one time. All you need to do is program them from the Xbox Accessories app and assign them to slot one or two. There are some presets for top games like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Halo 5: Guardians, Forza 6 or even Sunset Overdrive, but you can also take the time to make your own. This button mapping is something you do now have on the regular Xbox One Wireless controller via the app, though. You just won’t get the paddles. Xbox One Elite Controller vs Regular Controller – D-pad. With the Xbox Elite Controller you also have the option to choose the D-pad you’d like to use. Both are metal, for increased durability (and to keep your thumb cool). But one is the normal cross-shaped D-pad, while the other is faceted. The latter is our preferred one now – although it doesn’t function as much like the touchpad on the Steam Controller as we’d like – as it allows you to roll your thumb between options without having to reposition. It’s perfect for fighting games, as it allows quicker combos, and also it just looks more visually impressive. If you’re looking for the best controller money can buy, the Elite Controller is it – unless you like the look of the more garish SCUF Infinity 1. Microsoft has obviously honed its Wireless Controller design by adding vital tweaks and upgrades to make the Elite Controller, well… Elite. Start saving those pennies! Have you upgraded to the Xbox One Elite controller and, if so, what do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Microsoft's Xbox One Elite console is worth the extra cash. It's all about the controller. By Tom Warren on November 23, 2015 11:47 am @tomwarren 96. Microsoft’s Xbox One console hasn’t changed much since its introduction two years ago. It’s still a big black set-top box that will dominate your living room, but Microsoft has a new, slightly more powerful version available this month. The Xbox One Elite console switches out the traditional 512GB of HDD space for a 1TB solid state hybrid drive, alongside a new Xbox One Elite Controller. I’ve been using an Elite console for the past couple of weeks to answer one very simple question: is it worth the extra $150? The very basics of the console are similar to any standard Xbox One. It looks the same, aside from a matte finish instead of a glossy one, and all the ports are identical. Microsoft is bundling a standard headset in the box, a braided USB cable, and the new elite controller. I’m surprised there’s no stereo headset included in the bundle, but the real big addition is the controller. The console itself looks the same as any Xbox One. The Elite controller is clearly designed for players who spend dozens of hours a week on their favorite games. It’s been a game changer (ba dum tsh) for me personally. If you’re used to custom controllers like Scuf, then you’ve not been missing out on the world of controller customizations, but Microsoft’s changes are all official and a little bit sleeker. The thumbsticks feel a lot better than the regular Xbox One controller, and the textured grips made the controller slide around a lot less in my hands. I’ve had issues with my regular controller thumbsticks feeling a little sticky at times, but the Elite ones feel very smooth and precise thanks to their metal construction. You can also change the sensitivity of the joysticks and trigger buttons, and there are four removable paddles where your fingers usually rest that can be mapped to buttons. I’ve found that having four paddles is too many for most titles, but one or two definitely gives you a slight advantage in PvP games. I’ve mapped one paddle to jump, which means I never have to move my thumbs away from the thumbsticks when I’m hopping around in Call of Duty or Destiny . In games like Forza , the paddles operate your gears and clutch if you turn on manual transmissions, and it makes driving games a lot more fun using just a controller. While the controller is certainly the big highlight of this bundle, the 1TB solid state hybrid drive is an interesting addition. The extra space is essential thanks to the sheer size of titles these days, but this drive is also designed to speed things up. Microsoft claims the Xbox One Elite console boots up 20 percent quicker from standby, and I’ve certainly noticed it’s faster than my regular console. In fact, the Elite is usually ready before my TV has resumed from standby. I honestly don’t care about the extra couple of seconds, but speed improvements can also be found elsewhere. I’ve noticed that frequently used apps load faster with the Elite console, and games resume quicker when you’re bringing them out of standby. If you use an Xbox One regularly, you’ll notice the slight improvements, but these aren’t major speed improvements overall. Most of the big speed changes come with Microsoft’s new Xbox One dashboard, with a guide that provides quicker access to friends, party, messages, and notifications. Those are most of the features I use on a daily basis with my Xbox One, but it’s great to have games reliably and quickly resume from standby. A hybrid drive provides a boost to load times. Microsoft is using a hybrid drive in the Xbox One Elite console, and it’s something the company has been promoting since the days of Windows Vista. Most laptops use full solid state drives these days, but hybrids were always designed to boot your PC quicker and cache regularly used files from the hard drive. That seems to be how the Xbox One Elite is functioning, and it’s understandable since it’s all powered by Windows 10. So, should you spend an extra $150 on an Xbox One Elite? If you’re buying your first Xbox One and you’re going to be using it regularly then it’s absolutely worth the extra cash. The controller by itself is $150, so if you’re even considering it, then the full Elite console bundle is the way to go. If you already own an Xbox One, then it’s less of a must-buy. I use my Xbox One daily for TV, movies, games, and apps, but if you don’t use it often, then you won’t really notice the speed improvements and extra space. That said, Black Friday is approaching and Microsoft already has an Elite deal lined up for $449 instead of the regular $499 price, so if you’re tempted by the controller and HDD space upgrade, then now might be time to buy yourself an early Christmas present. When Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One Elite Controller, with all its knobs, sticks and paddles, at E3 2015, we all gasped, oohed and aahed. It’s quite the work of art, with its brushed metal accessories and matte black soft touch finish. And in reality, the Elite Controller’s announcement didn’t come as much of a surprise, seeing as the rise of eSports and competitive gaming has been huge. The new Xbox One Elite Controller is a customisable gamepad that’s quite the upgrade over the regular Wireless Controller. It’s primarily aimed at the seriously competitive gamers, in particular the ones that tend to mod out their pads for the aggressive edge. But with those customisation options comes a steep price – £129.99. So the question is, is the Xbox One Elite Controller worth it? Xbox One Elite Controller – Design. For your £130 investment, you’ll get a wonderful box of tricks. Sliding the lid off the box presents you with the Elite Xbox One Controller in its fabric-covered clam-shell case, which protects it when not in use, but also acts as storage for all the accessories. By looks alone you could be forgiven for thinking this is a standard Xbox One controller with a lick of paint. But the little moulded rubber holder beneath belies its elite status. The Elite Xbox One Controller comes with a pair of D-Pads – one a metal version of the regular D-Pad, but the other a faceted metal option – and three analogue stick choices. For the analogue sticks you’re looking at the standard concave diamond grip option, a taller version of these, and a domed set that sit between the two in terms of height. There are also two sets of paddles that attach to the rear of the controller, and a long, braided micro-USB cable, which is a must-have for those competitive sessions. All of these sit within the moulded rubber holder with the idea that you can store them securely when not in use, even when travelling around. In practice the spare analogue sticks and cross-style D-Pad all fit in securely, but the faceted D-Pad and the paddles come loose very easily, rattling about in the case. Sign up for the newsletter. Get news, competitions and special offers direct to your inbox. Although the weight is initially very palpable, you quickly become accustomed to the increased mass. In fact, it’s reassuringly heavy. The combination of the new matte rubber finish and the diamonised rubber grip on the underside, you’re looking at a controller that moulds into your hands and stays there – regardless of how sweaty your hands get during extended gaming sessions. You get so familiar with the weight and feel of the Elite Controller, that the regular one makes feels cheap, rough and thoroughly inferior. Microsoft has ensured that by kitting the Elite Controller out with a mature, understated design. The colourful face buttons and plastic finish have been swapped out for a monochrome colour scheme and metal touches that makes the Elite look like a premium product. Both the D-Pad and analogue sticks are interchangeable, with the current option attached by magnets. While you’re playing, they feel safe and secure, but if you want to change them out for a new version, it’s quick and simple to do. The only issue with the magnetic attachments that I had was with the rear paddles. The Elite Controller can support up to four rear paddles, which can function as a duplicate of any of the buttons on the pad you want. Or, you can go without them entirely: the make-up of the Elite Controller is up to you. But these can be easily caught and dislodged as you pick up the controller. It’s a particular pain at first, when you’re getting used to have those extra appendages, but you will get used to it eventually. I’m just worried what would happen if you lost one of these accessories, as it doesn’t seem like Microsoft will let you to replace them individually at this stage. You’ll also find that the Xbox One Elite Controller has some rather lovely shoulder buttons. Gone are the overly-loud clicky bumpers of the original controller, with the Elite instead offering a quieter, more even response wherever you press them. Xbox One Elite Controller – Xbox Accessories App. But what takes this enhanced Elite Controller even further is the Xbox Accessories app. Available on Windows 10 and Xbox One, the Xbox Accessories app makes sure that the customisation options don’t stop with the hardware. The app gives you the option to rebind the functionality of every button, trigger and bumper on the Elite Controller (aside from the menu and options buttons). You now have complete control over how your gamepad works, without being confined to customisation on a game-by-game basis if you don’t want to be. The Xbox One Elite Controller can store two button mapping configurations at once. The controller lets you switch between them using the slider underneath the options and menu buttons. You can store even more configurations in the Xbox Accessories app and load them onto the controller as and when you need them. They’re great for those among us who find the thought of remapping every single button totally daunting – and trust me I did at first. The app also goes beyond basic button-mapping too. There’s individual adjustments for analogue stick sensitivity that manage the distance the sticks need to travel before they react as in-game movements. These include: delay (slow start), aggressive (fast start), instant, smooth and default. You can also adjust the sensitivity and dead zone of the triggers. The app even lets you turn down the haptic feedback and adjust the brightness of the Xbox light. For those among you that like things a certain way, the Elite Controller also lets you swap the sticks over, permanently invert the right or left stick’s Y-axis or swap the triggers around. Xbox One Elite Controller – Performance. In practice, for me the customisation started slowly. I began by adding two paddles for Rise of the Tomb Raider – one for sprinting and the other to initialise the Survival Sense. But the more I used the Elite Controller across a number of games, the more time I spent tweaking and analysing my button mapping. Take Forza 6 for example – a game where the back paddles really come into their own. Suddenly you’ve got the manual car controls at the press of a finger, which is especially handy because I don’t really want to fork out for a racing wheel that’ll clutter up my home. Instead, I’ve got the Elite Controller to provide me with more of an authentic racing experience, while still providing me with an excellent gamepad for other games. Elsewhere, I started using one of the Halo 5 presets to make commanding Team Osiris much easier, as suddenly I’m not having to reach down for the D-Pad anymore, but toggling commands using the back paddles. If you’re a fighting game addict, then the faceted D-Pad will also be a huge success. Although I’m using it because I prefer the feel of it under the thumb and the general look, I’m assured that it makes it a lot easier to pull combos in titles like Mortal Kombat X and co. Should I buy the Xbox One Elite Controller? Although I’m totally addicted to the Xbox One Elite Controller now I’ve used it – God forbid I’m forced to go back to the regular one at this stage – my recommendation comes with some caveats. If you’re looking to spend £130 on a controller, you need to seriously think about how much you play on your Xbox One and what games you’re playing because it is around £90 more than a regular controller. However, for your £130 investment you will get the ultimate customisable controller that will no doubt last the entire lifespan of your console – and possibly longer. The Xbox One Elite Controller really is the one controller to rule them all, with its mature aesthetics, strong customisation options and durability. You might just want to wait for a price drop before you buy. Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller. Ships from United States. Most customers receive within 2-10 days. I have been waiting for a fully customizable controller for over 2 decades. The XB1 Elite Controller allows most buttons (minus guide/start) to be remapped in the downloadable app from Microsoft store (easy to do). I enjoy kicking my friends butt. even with my physical handicap. With past controllers and not having the full ability to use my undeveloped left arm/hand, I had to throw grenades (left trigger) by tilting the controller onto my left knee. The left bumper is useless for me aswell. But. both these buttons have been remapped to the paddles on the right underneath the controller. WOW! What a huge difference. Very pleased with the quality and build of this controller. This is a must for all handicapable people out there! Thanks Microsoft. (: I would recommend this to a friend. Good quality, but buy the insurance. The controller has a solid build quality, but has two potential issues: 1) The sticks are the exact same part as found on the standard controller, and as such have the potential to develop "stick drift". At this point, there is no option for repair. Buy the insurance and replace it. 2) The shoulder buttons are actually a single piece of plastic resting with tension over a single pivot beneath the Guide button. In some situations, this piece of plastic can be brittle and break, causing one or both shoulder buttons to no longer work. At this point, there is no way to repair the controller. Buy the insurance and replace it. Unfortunately, Microsoft only offers a 90-day warranty for their premium controller, so it is well worth the $20 for two years of coverage on your $150 controller. BB has been super-easy and very friendly when it comes to the actual exchange process, so no matter how gentle you plan to be with your new toy, BUY THE INSURANCE. I would recommend this to a friend. Perfection. The Xbox already has one of the most well designed controllers out there, and this one refines it to perfection. Everything about this exudes quality, from the high end packaging, to the case, to the controller itself. It is a joy to hold and you immediately get a feeling of quality and fit and finish that is unparalleled in Xbox controllers. All of the interchangeable parts lock in magnetically, no friction tension parts to wear out, no wondering if it is going in the right way, they just lock into place and are secure but easy to remove when you want to customize the controller. The long throw sticks are perfect for driving games or other precision uses, and the two profiles allow for on the fly switching of sensitivity, a great feature for running around and then switching to a lower sensitivity mode for careful aiming. The mappable under paddles mean you can map buttons that would normally take your thumbs off of the sticks to your other fingers. The hair trigger locks are great, I tend to set the right one for hair trigger and the other for long throw for aiming. I also like that this controller, like all of the other Xbox controllers, just uses two AA batteries. Sealed in batteries means that you can't just swap in new ones and keep going - and when they eventually wear out, it means a new controller. I use high capacity rechargeable batteries in mine. It also comes with a nice long braided USB cable if you need to use it wired. This controller allowes for you to customize it exactly to your gaming style and it is the ultimate Xbox controller. Recommended for gamers who are looking for the very best and are willing to pay the price for this controller. I would recommend this to a friend. SHORT LIFESPAN SHORTER WARRENTY. started out as a 4 star controller only issue i had was a picky d-pad that didnt always register being pressed down unless more pressure was applied then the other 3 directions as for everything else the controller feels amazing, works with previous play and charge kits, HAD flawless input other then the picky dpad which i decided to live with. paddles work/felt/fit good and you could do alot more with it then the standard controllers like the hair trigger locks and the ability to switch button mapping between two presets. about 4 months into the lifespan and ive noticed that my right thumbstick was starting to wander on screen. opened up the accesories app to confirm that it is sticking up and sometimes wont even register going down. checked the left stick even though i didnt notice anything in game and its wandering too but to the right. warrenty only covers 90 days which is sad for a controller that costs half the price of the console. No, I would not recommend this to a friend. Hello gameralex. Microsoft warrants the Xbox One or Accessories will not malfunction under Normal Use Conditions for 1 year from the date you purchased it; and for Accessories, means 90 days from the date you purchased it. Please contact us directly so we can assist you with a possible replacement at: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/browse/xbox-one . We apologize for any frustration this has caused and hope this was helpful to you. Poor Quality Control - Proceed with Caution. For those of you contemplating purchasing the $150 Elite controller, I would highly recommend getting an extended support warranty with it. I foolishly did not, thinking that it would be just as durable, if not more durable, than the standard controller. My upper right paddle button on the 5 month old controller stopped clicking suddenly today and upon trying to get is repaired or replace, Microsoft support told me to go buy another one since the 90 day warranty expired. So, the moral of the story is: 1. Buy the extended warranty. 2. If yours breaks beyond 90 days without an extended warranty you will NOT get any support from XBOX support. 3. If you already purchased the controller without a warranty, I hope your luck is better than mine. No, I would not recommend this to a friend. It is definetly better than standard. When I was at E3 2015 I had a hands on with this controller and it was something else! High quality at its best is all i can say. It is definitely for the elite gamer. I would like to comment on the fact that, at first, most people will not be comfortable with the paddles at the bottom like with the scuffs, but this is a lot easier to get used to. I know that it is a more newbie friendly than this scuffs for sure! I would recommend this to a friend. $150 for the best PC, PS4, & Xbox controller! I would recommend this to a friend. Expensive but amazing. It's definitely pricey, almost 3 time the cost of a regular controller. It is however the unquestionably best controller you can buy. Fit and finish is great, grip feels awesome, customization is cool, case is high quality. If you want the best, this is it.
