Xbox One gets screencasting feature with Wireless Display app today.
The Xbox One is now able to connect to a number of mobile devices and PCs thanks to the Wireless Display app.
Microsoft has released a new app for the Xbox One that allows users to project the screen of their PC, phone, or tablet onto their TV.
The Wireless Display app is currently only available to members of the Xbox One preview program and can be accessed easily by initiating the “Extend your screen” Quest. The quest will take you directly to the Xbox Store page of the app, which you can then download. Once the download is complete, you can then launch the app, which will present the name of your Xbox on screen. At this point, you can search for the Xbox using your PC, phone, or tablet to then project it to your console.
The Wireless Display app supports Miracast, which many current mobile devices and PCs support, so it should be relatively easy to cast your screen to your TV. Unfortunately, iOS devices and premium content aren’t supported as well as devices that enable HDCP protection.
We tested the new Wireless Display app and ran into some trouble getting our Samsung Galaxy S6 to connect, but we didn’t have any issues connecting the Galaxy Note 4 to it. If you plan on checking the app out, don’t get too frustrated if it doesn’t work completely.
We learned the Xbox One will be receiving the ability to stream games earlier this month, and with the release of the Wireless Display app, the console is preparing itself to be a better all-in-one entertainment hub.

It shouldn't be. I understand why you'd want to play games, but this feature allows nearly everyone with a phone, tablet.
Well thats disappointing.
This is a different feature than the XBox One-to-PC ( or tablet ) game streaming. This wireless display app will allow y.
Xbox One Wireless Display App Guide: How To Get It On Xbox One And Use It.
Microsoft has just released "Xbox One Wireless Display" App/Feature for Preview Subscribers. This new feature will allow Xbox One owners to project screen of some of their favorite devices to TV or monitor via Xbox One using Miracast.
Microsoft provided complete details on how Xbox One owners can make Get And Use this Xbox One Wireless Display App.
Xbox One Wireless Display app allows you to project your favorite device screen to your TV through the Xbox. The Wireless Display app uses Miracast, which quite a few devices support to mirror or extend your screen, wirelessly. You may already have a device that you can project from, so give it a try.
Here's How To Get Xbox One Wireless Display App:
You can get the Wireless Display app via the Quest titled “Extend your screen.” Start the quest to be taken to the Xbox Store page to start your download. Once it’s finished you can launch the quest again to launch the app and start working through the scenarios we’d love for you to try.
How To Make Use of Xbox One Wireless Display App:
Launch the app, you will see your Xbox name on the screen, ready for a connection. Use your device interface to project your screen, mirror your screen or share your screen. Select your Xbox and voila! If you need to change the name of your console, try using the app settings menu which has a link to your console’s settings and change the name there.
Here is the list of some of the known issues in Xbox One Wireless Display App:
Projection of premium content is not supported. Projecting from apps like Netflix or Hulu+ will be blocked by your device as this is protected content. Devices that enable HDCP protection at all times will not be able to project. like: Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra. In some instances you may need to remove your Console from your device’s display list in order to reconnect. iOS devices do not support Miracast.
Please Note: This app is only compatible only with latest Xbox One firmware, which is xb_rel_1505.150423-2200.
Announcing the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter.
Have you ever had something on your phone that you really wanted to show to your friends and family, but they had to huddle around you and your PC, tablet, or smartphone just to show them? This happened to me last weekend when my parents were visiting from out of town and I wanted to show them photos from my wedding this last summer our photographer took. Today we’re announcing the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, which connects to an HDTV, monitor, or projector and will let you easily share content from any Miracast-enabled device – including many PCs and Tablets running Windows 8.1. With the Wireless Display Adaptor, I don’t have to worry about getting everyone to huddle around a device. All the content I care about, along with audio, is easily shared on the big screen.
All you need to do is plug the USB end and HDMI end of the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter into an HDTV, monitor or projector. Then select the right input on your TV, pair it with your laptop, tablet, or smartphone and you’ll be ready to go. Then just wirelessly project your screen from your Miracast-enabled device. It’s that simple. Depending on your device, you can have it mirror exactly what’s being shown on the screen of your device or extend its screen. Because the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter uses Miracast technology, you’re not limited to certain apps or content streaming. It’ll show anything and everything from your device!
I was lucky to get my hands on a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter to try out for myself.
First, I connected it to my HDTV. Easy.
Then I made sure to put my HDTV on the appropriate input. The Microsoft logo popped up on the screen and told me it was ready to connect.
I fired up my Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet and projected to the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter and before I knew it, my Start screen was showing up on my HDTV. Also really easy. Here’s how to project to a wireless display with Miracast in Windows 8.1.
With my Dell Venue 8 Pro connected, I was able to see everything on its screen also on my HDTV (I chose to mirror the screen). I ended up opening Nextgen Reader and reading a bunch of articles before going into Flipboard. I also watched a bunch of videos from YouTube.
The other thing that is really slick is being able to open Office documents – like a PowerPoint slide deck – and have it shown on my HDTV through the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. This makes it a great tool for use at work – in a conference room – and not just at home. Remember, the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter works with projectors and monitors too, so no more searching for the right, fitted adapter that plugs into your laptop every time you’re presenting.
You can also bring the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter with you when you’re traveling and hook it up to the HDTV in your hotel room to play movies (and keep the kids entertained) or check out your photos from the day.
I also projected the screen from my Lumia 1520 to my HDTV using the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. Here’s how to project to a wireless display with Windows Phone 8.1.
From my Lumia 1520, I ended up watching a few episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation from Hulu. The moral and ethical debate in the episode “I, Borg” never gets old. The great thing here is it also plays audio through the HDTV as well.
The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter really is simple and easy to use!
The other thing to note is that while I used it with my Dell Venue 8 Pro and Lumia 1520 – the Microsoft Wireless Adapter also works with Android devices too. Just sayin’.

How To Use XBox One Wireless Display App.
Microsoft released their Wireless Display app for the XBox One to preview users back in April. The XBox One Wireless Display app lets you project the screen of your laptop, tablet, or phone to your TV through your XBox One. There are some requirements for it to work properly.
UPDATE 2017: The XBox Preview has been renamed to the XBox Insider Hub, and I believe the Wireless Display App is no longer available. Hopefully they’ll release it to the public soon or integrate it as a built-in feature of the XBox.
Requirements.
Both your XBox and your device (laptop, phone, etc) must be on the same wireless network. Also, your device must support the MiraCast protocol (fyi, iOS does not support Miracast). Also, due to content restrictions, some apps like Hulu and Netflix will not allow you to project their content to your TV using this method.
Obviously, make sure you download the Wireless Display app from the Store. Then on your XBox One, run the Wireless Display app.
If you’re using your Windows 8 device, open up the charms bar>select devices>choose project>then finally select your Xbox One.
If you’re using Windows 10, click on the Action Center icon, then click on Expand (if you’re showing less options), then click on Connect. The Action Center will search for available devices and your XBox One should show up.
If you’re wanting to play your audio through your TV or stereo speakers, on your computer right-click on the speaker icon and select Playback Devices. Then set your Connected Device as your default and your audio will be redirected through your XBox One as well.
I’ve used this a few times to stream videos. If there’s heavy wireless traffic then the quality can degrade and get choppy, otherwise it works pretty well with only a slight delay in the video.
Project the screen of your phone, tablet, or laptop with the Wireless Display app on Xbox One.
The Wireless Display app is now available for preview members on the Xbox One. This new app allows you to project your device's screen to the Xbox One via Miracast. However, the only way for preview members to download the app they must complete the "Extend Your Screen" quest in the Preview Dashboard app.
The Wireless Display app allows you to project whatever's on your phone's screen to your Television. This means you can easily play games and apps, like the recently released Hitman Go, on your television in all of its glory. The app can also be projected to while in snap mode.
Once the app is downloaded and launched, you will be welcomed by a screen stating that your Xbox One is ready as well as the nickname for your Xbox One. Once you figure out the name of your Xbox One, grab your phone head to the Project My Screen section in your Windows Phone's setting and you should see the Xbox One's name there for you to select and voila! You are now projecting your device's screen to your television through your Xbox One.
If you're using your Windows 8 device, open up the charms bar>select devices>choose project>then finally select your Xbox One.
NOTE: Your device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi connection in order for it to work. It must also support Miracast.
The only problem with the app (especially for Windows Phone users) is that the magic is only possible because of Miracast. If your device doesn't support Miracast (which most older Windows Phone 8 devices don't) you won't be able to take advantage of this sweet app. If you have any iPhone you are also out of luck since Apple continues not to support the protocol.
One of its other small but disappointing quirks is that you cannot project apps such as Hulu+ or Netflix due to its content being protected.
I was able to test it out with my laptop for a short time before it lost signal. Once I restarted the app back up on the Xbox One it was reconnected. On a side note, the app does lag a second or two behind what's happening on your device in real-time. That being said, I think it is a common flaw of Miracast as my experiences with Chromecast had that same lag.
So if you're in the preview program grab your Miracast enabled device and start projecting your screen with this awesome new app and let us know in the comments below how you plan on taking advantage of the app.
Xbox One.
Xbox One.
Xbox One.
Xbox One.
Displaying Content from a Surface to an XBox One Using "Play To"
The Surface family of devices (or any device/PC running Windows 8) is capable of wirelessly sending video content from many modern applications to an XBox One on the same network using a technology known as Play To . Play To is particularly useful for streaming video from your browser. Setting it up is quick and easy, but not terribly intuitive.
You may have also heard the term Miracast. Miracast is a different technology and is essentially a peer-to-peer, Wi-Fi Direct HDMI cable. In other words, a wireless monitor. Miracast is superior in the fact that it works with all applications without modification. Unfortunately there are only a couple of Miracast receivers on the market today, and this technology is outside the scope of these instructions.
Projecting applications is done by swiping in from the right to display the charms bar, and selecting devices. You'll get the menu below:
While in an application that supports it, selecting the Play menu presents you with the available output devices:
Noticeably missing is the option for the XBox. Unfortunately this isn't quite as automatic as the Apple AirPlay system. We have to set a few things up first to get it to show up here.
First, confirm that Play To is enabled on your XBox by using the Settings app, and selecting preferences . There you'll see the option to enable Play To .
Go back to your Surface and reopen the charms bar and select Devices , and then Play , just as you did before. This time select Add a device . This is a deep-link into the settings app.
From this screen, select Add a device :
It should detect the XBox One:
If your XBox doesn't show up, ensure that you're on the same subnet, and confirm that your network is open and test by using the SmartGlass application to confirm connectivity.
After a bit of installation, the XBox One should show up in the list of Play Devices. Once it's showing up, open up YouTube.com in Internet Explorer, start playing a video of your choosing, and select your XBox as the Play To target:
Selecting the XBox system will cause the currently playing video to display on the XBox. Once the initial handshaking is done, you can switch videos, and even allow the Surface to go into standby, and the video will keep playing. Keep in mind that there are a limited number of applications that have Play To support. If your favorite application is lacking support, be sure to reach out to the author and ask them to add it.
