Handling these WRC cars, while not on par with a sim, is consistently fun and the courses, of which there are over 60, are a stand out of diversity and challenge. Career rallies stick closely to the WRC format although damage has been softened from last year which means repair choices are never a factor, not what you expect from a sport that is about a knives edge balance between speed and preservation. Damage quibbles aside the game has potential to be one of the classics WRC racers. Unfortunately, all the positives are crushed under the weight of muddied, jaggy graphics that struggle to maintain a consistent frame rate. The FPS is more tolerable from a first person camera view but the in car is probably the worst seen in a decade. Graphic also shine most when the sun is, yet the devs opted for random weather which leave gamers to deal with intolerable to near unplayable rain, night and fog effects 70% of the time. I bought WRC 5 and had alot of fun and after watching numerous review videos for the next adaptation I had high hopes that WRC 6 would only get better. however. The graphics are pure slop of textures, colors and weather effects that are embarrassing and the night stages are a wreck, literally. You cannot see the road and yes I know that's. why you have a codriver. Then there is the handling on both pad and wheel. After 5 hours of fine tuning and tweeking I gave up. The cars are extremely jerky and there is no sense of control. No feeling of transition to different surfaces and handbrake doesnt seem to work. Even for the price of $49.99 just pass. DONT PLAY WITH SIMULATOR. the game is so poorly calibrated with simulator and there is no advanced settings to help out with the sim. car handeling is so far from real, just stick with games that put more time into simulator play like forza or dirt if you don't want to lose 60 bucks on 20 mins of play time. 42 out of 46 people found this helpful. Try Dirt 4 Instead. As one that has been playing rally games since the original Colin Mcrae Rally on the PSOne, Ive played my share of rally games in every imaginable format. I still remember the 'Official WRC Rally' on the PS2 (Horrible). It seems that WRC games never really have had a decent representation of driving a World Rally Car. From the underwhelming graphics, to the utterly horrible pacenotes by the co-driver. It has no natural flow, the notes are often late (Even when you adjust the setting to 'early'). bad pacenotes can break a rally game, and this version does NOTHING to fix that. Then theres the rather annoying engine sounds. The popping and banging is never really in sync and to be honest sounds random. you play motorsports games for the SOUNDS of the cars, yet another miss. It doesn't feel like real life. The first issue is with the sim. wheel/pedal configuration, it doesn't allow precise settings but instead you change it by increments of 5%. Then the other issue is the car tuning which is not measured IN ANY WAY like real life. Great game with a shallow learning curve! I bought this game on sale for $10 and I am very happy with it! It's less of a simulation game than Dirt Rally is which means less of a learning curve and less frustration from the start. The graphics are pretty good with the occasional frame rate drop here and there which doesn't bother me. The engine sounds are decent at best but the backfiring is amazing. The gameplay is very linear but that's to be expected from any sort of racing game. Overall this game is great and there are way more pro's than cons. Pretty fun. This game can be quite challenging, but also fun if you listen to pandora or spotify while playing. It seems rigged, but in a good way because I'd always finish 1st. It's ok, but Dirt Rally trumps it. I really wanted to like this game. As i big fan of both racing and video games, i love games that successfully marry together the excitement, danger and overall atmosphere of racing in a great game. Sadly, this game falls short of that. The controls are bull (you don't have control over things like the cluth, the assists aren't as customizable as in Dirt Rally), and the sound effects could be better. But, all of that could be forgiven in a well made game. This game is not even close. The frame rate is scuffy, the camera is aggravating, and the overall production values feel very poor. Dirt Rally runs at or very near 60 fps, has realistic physics and sounds. The only thing this game has over Dirt Rally is variety. But that bit of variety isn't worth the waste of money. I strongly urge everybody, as a fan of racing and video games in general, to buy Dirt Rally instead. Dirt Rally is an invigorating experience, that runs laps around this half-baked phony. I have rarely torched a game down to it's very existence, but this is one of the least enjoyable games I have ever played. I won't elaborate on all the specifics. They are too many and varied. WRC misses every mark. I do not know how or for what reason it got green lit for release. How is this a franchise? I'll never find out. I am a bit PO'd that this month's GP Quest revolves around this unplayable turd. No way am I sacrificing another minute to WRC, much less 10 hours. Kylotonn Racing Games has announced WRC 6, the latest entry in the long running rally racing series. The title is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in late 2016. According to a press release, Kylotonn has used much of the feedback from WRC 5 in designing its follow-up. "We spent the last 8 months, since the release of WRC 5, collecting and studying all the feedback from the community to improve the experience and take it to a new level," said game director Alain Jarniou. Among the changes made based on feedback is narrower and longer courses, Jarniou went on to explain. Click image to view in full screen. "The experience gained from WRC 5 helped the team to completely understand the expectations of racing fans when it comes to rallying. Roads were too wide in WRC 5? They will be narrower and more bumpy in WRC 6. Stages were sometimes too short? We created new longer stages and reworked everything to make them longer and more challenging." The developer has said it plans to announce additional features "in the coming weeks," and will show the game more at E3 in June. WRC 6 will be the official game of the FIA World Rally Championship and, as such, it will feature all 14 rounds of the 2016 WRC season, along with drivers and teams from the main and junior WRC categories. WRC 6 Review. If you’re looking for a better modern rally game than Dirt Rally, you can stop looking; it doesn’t exist, and WRC 6 hasn’t toppled Codemasters’ off-road opus. But with its robust career mode, well-designed stages, and approachable handling model WRC 6 makes a good case for itself as a credible companion game to the venerable Dirt Rally. It’s not always very pretty, and it can’t really touch its competition in terms of content, but WRC 6 is the most fun I’ve had with an officially licensed WRC game in over a decade. WRC 6’s strongest feature is its narrow and lengthy stages. The sense of velocity is also terrific because of the cramped, obstacle-lined roads; even modest speeds feel fast when hazards are whipping by in such close proximity to your car. There’s a great variety of stages as they’re spread across all 14 countries from the 2016 World Rally Championship, and there are a number of extremely technical two-car Super Special Stages amongst them (though no rallycross tracks). While there’s not a huge number of stages per country, that’s about twice the amount of locations featured in Dirt Rally. However, WRC 6’s stages are nowhere near as handsome. They also lack pizazz; the water-splash effect in WRC 6, for instance, is an abject anticlimax. Crashing through shallow water should be dramatic, highlight-reel stuff, but in WRC 6 it’s a forgettable effect a generation or two behind the curve. Snow joke, really. WRC 6’s cars seem sharp, well-detailed, and about on par with its peers. They show sufficient visual damage, though some of the scratch effects seem a little low-res when viewed from bonnet cam. Unfortunately there isn’t a huge amount of cars (no iconic classics or retro ’90s rally legends like you’ll find in Dirt Rally or Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo) and this is perhaps the most disappointing aspect of WRC 6. Being limited to just the current crop of strikingly similar-looking hatchbacks is a shame, but at least they feel pretty good behind the wheel. Don’t get me wrong; WRC 6 doesn’t boast sim-like handling as sublime as you’ll find in Dirt Rally, but it does require a little more finesse than a pure arcade rally experience, like Sega Rally, or the RalliSport Challenge games of old. There’s a nice sense of weight to the cars as you grab the handbrake and heft them into tight corners, plus decent distinction between surface types. I’m not a fan of the chase cam, which feels a little too stiff and unwieldy for the fairly grippy handling model, but WRC 6 is still very forgiving, even on its most challenging “simulation” settings. Engine audio is passable (though it’s turned down by default in the menus; I highly recommend cranking it back up), but the sound overall could do with more love. It definitely still lacks the real rasp and throatiness you’d expect from a rally car, and environmental effects don’t contribute much to the overall audio tapestry (for example, kick-up and road noise is way too subtle). There are moments where WRC 6 should be nothing short of deafening, like in the cabin of a high-revving rally car clawing over loose gravel under an extremely low hovering camera chopper, and it just… isn’t. Ready to make like Van Halen? The pacenotes get the job done (and you can choose between simple and more complex instructions) but they’re old-school in implementation; stitched together from a soundboard and a tad robotic, and not a patch on Dirt Rally’s unique pacenotes for each individual stage. They also trip over themselves slightly during multiple rapid corners, but they’re decent enough. Career mode doesn’t innovate but it does a respectable job of putting us in the service park between stages and adding just enough window dressing to ensure our trip from the Junior WRC to the top tier isn’t entirely menu-based. The result falls well short of, say, F1 2016, but it does inject the career campaign with a little more race-day flavour than the admittedly sterile Dirt Rally. WRC 6 reminds me a lot of the PlayStation 2-era Evolution-developed WRC games; it’s an earnest attempt to capture the spirit of a niche motorsport series and, most importantly, it feels good to play thanks to a wide selection of tight-quarters race tracks, and decent handling. It might not hold a candle to Dirt Rally in its car selection or look and feel, but it’s not bad for developer Kylotonn’s sophomore effort on the series. If Milestone’s stint turned you off, as it did me, now could be a good time to get reacquainted.
