Top 5 Golf Games for Android.
Computer golf has been a tradition going back 30 years, right back to the days of CGA and EGA monitors on PCs. And with palmtops/PDAs and then smartphones, golf games have been available and popular at every stage. Seems that ‘a good walk spoiled’ is better when powered by a CPU and without the fresh air! On Android in 2015, I’ve sorted through over 30 golf game titles to bring you just the very best and most interesting. Part of the attraction of computer/mobile golf, of course, is that it gives you a taste of the open air, the grass and trees, the challenges of wind and terrain, all without lifting more than a finger. Lazy, us?
The other reason golf is such a popular game genre is that it’s by nature almost a ‘one button’ game, in that the core action – that of taking a shot – is just a matter of timing a tap or flick on the touchscreen of, in this case, an Android smartphone. So golf is a perfect ‘casual’ game that doesn’t require massive multi-finger coordination and concentration. Lift your gaze for a moment or get distracted and you won’t have just been killed by a zombie, or whatever!
Not that the ‘one button’ nature should take away from the skill required to succeed. Typically there will be wind, ball lie and terrain to contend with, plus limitations due to the clubs available, and so on. Not every game listed below uses all of this, of course – but the best ones do, and to good effect. I should add that I have some form in this game genre, having written golf games/simulations for the Psion palmtops back in the 1990s and the Nokia and Sony Ericsson smartphones in the early 2000s – so I know a good title when I see it.
Only five games below, eh? As it turns out the whittling down (from 30 or so) was pretty easy. Take out anything with amateur ‘my first game’ graphics (so that’s most of them!), take out titles which seem to be longer available (e.g. ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour’, sadly) and there’s only half a dozen or so left.
5. Golf Star.
For the first time ever in an AndroidBeat ‘Top 5’, don’t take a placing as a recommendation. Golf Star has a huge amount to recommend it – and a huge amount to make any sane computer golfer run away screaming! Based on a professional physics engine, i.e. the golf itself is satisfying, realistic and challenging, the surrounding game ‘furniture’ is appallingly, terribly over-complex and unbalanced. Golf Star is at heart just a way of making an obscene amount of money for the developers – who should be ashamed of themselves.
Golf Star’s core physics and game engine is pretty good…
From token to coin to heart to power-up to booster to experience points to consumable to every other virtual infestation under the sun, Golf Star is a veritable nightmare to navigate. And I have to give a hearty warning shout out to ‘special offers’ listed as “$0.00” which, when tapped through, turn out to be the maximum £79.99 in real money. Quite appallingly misleading. Real time tournaments are provided and, I’m sure, are lots of fun for those who have invested the necessary time and money in the Golf Star ecosystem. Me? I’d long since lost the will to live…
…but then it all gets utterly drowned in freemium greed and general nonsense…
Such a shame – the programmers who worked on the golf bits itself should be congratulated. This could have been a terrific, challenging experience, but in the end, Golf Star has ended up as “A good golf game spoiled”.
Such a slick – and huge – golf game for Android. Comments welcome if you dipped into your wallet or otherwise got further than me!
4. Super Stickman Golf.
Rest easy though, since from here on in it’s cracking games with the ‘freemium’ elements dialled down a lot. Interestingly, the days of full commercial titles seem to have vanished, with every decent golf game now free to install and then working on ways of getting you to part with your cash from then on. Super Stickman Golf is perhaps as much puzzle as golf game, but I’ve let that pass because it’s such fun to play. Each hole is outrageously designed and laid out in two dimensions, side-on, and you have to not only work out a way to get your golf ball to the hole in par but actually execute the plan as well.
Introducing the Stickman Golf concepts….
Accompanied by jaunty music and cute graphics, Super Stickman Golf is harder than it looks. Left and right on-screen arrows to tilt your shot up and down and then tap and tap again to set the strength of each shot. For free you work your way through the various hole packs, but with a few small in app purchases you’re on your way faster with access, a removal of any ads and special balls that behave in unrealistic (but helpful to progress) ways. It’s well balanced, easy to put down and pick up again. Just don’t expect to see a traditional caddy, club house or…. blade of grass!
Like no golf course you’ll ever see in your life, but it’s a cracking puzzle/arcade/sim hybrid…
3. Mini Golf Stars 2.
Mini golf, or ‘crazy golf’ as it is in the UK, is a great way to while away a rainy afternoon at the seaside – after all, the ‘grass’ is some kind of astroturf, usually. Bash your ball around between obstacles, slopes and hoops and generally have fun with the family – I’m sure you’ve had a go at some point. And on a computer/smartphone, with everything virtual, the obstacles and puzzles can be an order of magnitude harder without some groundsman having to build and maintain the things….
Both familiar and unfamiiiar crazy golf obstacles, twists and turns….
Mini Golf Stars 2 is freemium as well, of course, but you can play right through without paying if need be (if you’re good and patient enough) – things just get easier if you do use an in-app purchase, buying mulligans and chip shots, mainly, plus the interstitial ads you have to watch if you fail to make par can be skipped.
Buying your way to faster progress, but the game never goes totally over the top….
All fair enough, since this is a quality piece of code. Dragging and holding the touchscreen sets your aim and then a two tap system sets the power. The skill here is getting a feel for how bouncy the various materials and obstacles are, how high you need to chip(!), and so on. But it’s worth it, this is a great game.
Playing crazy golf in SPAAAACCEE!
2. Let’s Golf 3.
At heart, the physics and rendering engines in this title are top notch, but they’re almost buried in the cute cartoon graphics, the shmultzy music and crazy animals (yes, animals – really). This graphics style is something you have to live with even if you don’t particularly enjoy it (or see my number one pick below!) Let’s Golf 3 takes the same idea as Golf Star in that there are coins, currencies, energy points, experience points, and much more, plus innumerable ways to dress up (needlessly?) your players, but somehow it all stays the right side of ‘sane’ and the result is far more enjoyable.
We’re firmly in cute and cuddly cartoon land, but the golf physics are still great and the game worth persevering with….
Playing in ‘Stroke’, ‘Duel’ or ‘Challenge’ modes either on your own or against another player online (through Gameloft’s servers), the graphics and golf mechanics are first class. There’s a certain pressure to perform, given that failing to make par requires you to go back to the start of each course section or pay in virtual currency to try again. In multiplayer mode, against others online, there’s even more pressure of a different kind, of course, plus you wouldn’t want your Facebook friends to see you getting whupped too many times. Somewhat oddly, you never really see the other player in action – just a tiny thumbnail every now and then in a pop-up view.
One of the mini-games – there’s a lot to fiddle with and have fun with in cute ‘Let’s Golf 3’ land….
Mini-games and customisation options round off a title with high production values – even if some of the design does seem to have been done while under the influence of illegal substances….
1. WGT Golf Mobile.
But, at the risk of cheating slightly, it’s hard to not put WGT Golf Mobile in the number one slot – it’s utterly realistic, tremendously challenging, has full online multi-player… and is effectively completely free. Let’s tackle the price first – the WGT Golf marque across all platforms makes money from real world sponsors of the various online events, plus selling you credits, with which you can (but don’t have to) buy branded virtual goods, some of which are purely for show and some of which can apparently make your game better.
As real as it gets – because the graphics ARE real…
But the real unique selling point is that the courses are real. And I mean Real with a capital ‘R’. The developers have been out and photographed each hole on each course from thousands of different positions and angles, then when you find yourself in (or near) that spot, all they have to do is put up the appropriate photo. The (vertical and surface) terrain in the game is mapped to ‘within an inch’ of that in the real world, ensuring that you and your ball stay realistically displayed, on-screen. And of course lighting and shade on your golfer and the action are all handled as well. The only downsides are that for some lies the photo position may mean that your golfer avatar is shown slightly off to one side of centre, but hey, that just gives WGT Golf Mobile more of a ‘TV’ feel.
The discrete nature of the photo set means occasionally odd angles, as here, but these add to the ‘TV camera man’ feel….
And where do all the tens of thousands of photos, per course, totalling several Gigabytes, live? On a server somewhere thankfully, but the streaming down to your phone in real time of just the images you need is very fast indeed, at least on Wi-fi or 4G. You may not want to play WGT Golf over a slow or limited 3G connection!
Branding is everywhere in WGT Golf, but it never gets in the way, it just gives everything a premium ‘glow’….
With the option to play through courses for the love of the game, to accept monthly challenges, to play ‘head to head’ random games against online opponents (and yes, you see everything they do), there’s enormous gameplay here and, as I say, essentially for free.
Online multi-player head to head matches are terrific, and you get to chat as you, if you like!
If I had to nit pick then I’d pick out the way it’s not trivial to reposition your aim in the UI, or the way the screen auto-dims and powers down if your online opponent takes a bit longer than usual, but take all this with a pinch of salt. Your bandwidth permitting, WGT Golf Mobile is still a superb golf game, simulation and – yes – an experience. A worthy number one!

Now Golfstar will not run on mozt of the latest Android tablets. The developers COM2US took money and locked thousands of players out with no refunds. Disgraceful!
And they’re about to shut down one of my favorite games, despite the freemium crap, 9 Innings 2016 in December to make room for “MLB 9 Innings 2016.” They are truly greedy, but damnit their games are fun!
Could someone PLEASE define the data usage of a game like WGT?
This author wrote excellent descriptions of these games and thankfully wrote that WGT stores most data on a server that IS NOT your phone. But not everyone has unlimited data…and for me that includes my home WIFI.
I wish techies would stop referring to all WIFI like its free. Someone is paying for it and not everyone has massive pipelines of cheap data coming in to their homes. Some of us still live away from curbs and concrete out here in flyover county.
So it looks like the only golf game worth my time on the android is the one game that requires potentially a lot of data use…but I wouldn’t know because no one seems to ever consider data as a commodity anymore.
Thanks for this review. Nothing aggravates me more than apps that call themselves “free” and then attempt to fleece you the entire time you are playing.
When I can buy a good game up front after a free trial to be sure I like it, I would gladly pay $10 or more for it, especially if that bought me future downloads of the game if I change phones and there were no ads, or cheesy energy, power-ups, or stupid gizmos to deal with. I just want to play the danged game.
It seems there is really nothing out there that treats us like adult consumers, allows us to simply buy a game and play the danged thing…in the middle of a filed with no data connection. This is why I dont play many games…I suppose I’m too “grown up” for people “playing games” with me.
I really don’t think any of the games mentioned use more than 30MB of data/per hour at the very maxmium.
Thank you. that is more than WGT themselves were willing to say.
Best experience for me to get a decent golf game is to install a DOSBOX app and load up the old Links386 and some courses you can find online. The graphics might not be on par with the latest games but it has great playability. The volume buttons become the left and the right mouse buttons.
I’ll have to look in to that. I have no idea yet how to load those games, but there is a tutorial that might tell me.
DOSBOX turbo is $2.50 and people seem to like how it works.
Any idea where to find a list of games, how to set them up, etc?
Xbox one golfspiel
Ultimately though it's all about the gameplay and this game may surprise by it's depth. With RPG elements, unique character abilities, special caddy abilities and equipment/power up reward packs that pay tribute and a nod to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer system of unlocking goodies, there's a lot of value and gameplay here. I must also mention Rivals mode, where you play against one of your friend's rounds saved in the Cloud, played in real time, shot against shot and much like the ghost mode of Forza. While there isn't a online competitive mode, this is a great addition with both players being able to earn in game XP and best each other in a kind of virual time, lapsed way. Local turn based multiplayer is obviously included and is great fun. The courses are well designed with plenty of tactical or go for it moments to be had.
Unlike EA's Tiger Woods titles that play a straight laced game of Golf (play some rounds, save up for the best clubs, win everything, get bored) this has 'Fun' written all over it. The gameplay is well balanced and your character's special abilities are limited to just the right amount per round ensuring you strategically choose the best moments to use them. The caddies you choose have special abilities too and perks which adds another layer of depth. The equipment packs are bought with in-game xp currency and adds a random chance element to what you're going to get, much like Mass Effect 3's fervour when hunting down the rare equipment, perks and unlocks. Don't be put of by the now all too frequent business of in game purchasing using real money. Here it's by no means necessary as you'll start to unlock some great equipment and perks with a few good rounds play. It's there for the impatient with money to spend and in no way will you have to pay to progress. The challenge of setting and beating friends records which are displayed on each hole and the addictive equipment pack system keeps me coming back for more.
It would be easy to overlook this digital game when it's up against the 'big guns' however for $20/£16 and with a career mode which alone will last over 40 hours if you try to get all 'Golds' in the challenges shows it offers a deep challenge with real value for money. I'm hoping they've got some DLC planned, but even without it, I'll be playing this longer than the likes of Ryse. … Expand.
Snooker will soon be sneaking into Pure Pool on Xbox One and Windows PC.
Last month, a pool game called Pool Nation FX launched on Xbox One as a free Games with Gold title. Unfortunately, Pool Nation FX actually turned out to be pretty terrible. The menus are so unwieldy and loading times so long, I'd rather be watching people play pool on TV. To be fair, I haven't played it since the recent patch rolled out. Maybe those blights have improved.
Luckily for pool fans, Xbox One and Windows PC already have a great recreation of the game in Pure Pool from Ripstone and VooFoo Studios. Pure Pool currently offers four pool game types: US 8-Ball, 9-Ball, Blackball, and Killer. Soon the popular game of snooker will also be represented, as Ripstone has just announced the impending release of Pure Pool Snooker DLC. Read on for details and the Snooker DLC trailer!
Pure Pool is the best pool.
Why would you pay money for a pool game when you might've just gotten one for free through Xbox Live? Because this one doesn't suck; that's why. The menu text is a little small, but you can still navigate menus without much hassle. And the graphics are amazingly lifelike, far better than those of Pool Nation FX.
As a single player game, Pure Pool offers an expansive career mode. Players can earn up to three stars from each match – one simply for beating it, and others for completing side goals such as making specific shots during the game. Challenge games take place between regular tournament matches, requiring different tactics such as speed runs and precision tests.
Pure Pool brings some classy multiplayer features to the pool table. For one, you get head-to-head online play against another player. The experience of chatting with a friend while knocking balls around is very close to the real life pool experience, especially since you're surrounded by a bar filled with patrons within the game. Competition-minded players can even participate in pool leagues, battling it out against a wider variety of competition.
The game also offers asynchronous multiplayer. It builds an AI profile based on your play style, which friends can then match up against it when you're not around. Kind of like the Drivatars in Forza Horizon 2. I understand my AI profile excels at sending the ball flying from the table more often than it makes it into the pocket. I rock at pool, don't you know.
The AI profiles actually make real-time online multiplayer better as well. If an opponent drops out during an online game, the game won't just end. Instead, that jerk's online profile will automatically take his or her place. There's no avoiding the whoopings of your opponents in Pure Pool.
I'm not the biggest pool guy in real life, but I've had a lot of fun playing Pure Pool with friends. If you're into the game of pool, this is the game to get. Perhaps we'll do a weekend Twitch stream for it sometime!
About the Snooker DLC.
Obviously the main draw of the Snooker DLC is the addition of the snooker game type.
Invented by British soldiers stationed in India during the 19th century, snooker is especially popular in English-speaking countries. The game is played with a cue ball and 21 snooker balls: 15 reds and six differently colored balls. Two players take turns trying to first pocket a red ball, followed by a colored ball. You must hit a red first during every turn.
The Pure Pool Snooker DLC offers the following:
Snooker Career mode with three difficulty levels: Amateur, pro, and Master Two Snooker Challenge modes Online snooker leagues New Achievements (and Trophies on PlayStation 4)
Ripstone has not announced a release date or price for the Snooker DLC, but I imagine it will be in the five bucks range. They say the DLC is coming soon, so stay tuned.
Best Golf Apps for Windows 10.
While we no longer have games such as Let's Golf 2 available, there are still plenty of quality golf-oriented apps. They can help keep score while you are on the course or pass the time when conditions aren't the best to hit the links. These are the best golf apps for Windows 10.
Updated April 4, 2017: We made a few changes to this article based on new releases, reader input and staff debate. There are some new titles in the mix, as well as those that we continue to view as the best from the Windows Store.
Mini Golf Club.
While full games of golf are a rare breed in the Windows Store, there are plenty of miniature-golf-style games to make up for things. Mini Golf Club is one of the best offerings to test your skills with the flat blade, offering over 300 interactive holes of putt-putt.
Mini Golf Club has four game modes that include tournament play, multiplayer games, practice holes and a premium mode that has uniquely designed holes that are more challenging. If that wasn't enough, you can create your own golf holes with an editor feature.
Graphics are rich with color and detail, the game controls are simple, and the physics engine offers a nice level of realism for each shot. There are a few booster zones to aid your shots, such as wind and jump areas, but for the most part success depends on your aim and mastery of physics.
Mini Golf Club is a free, ad-supported game that is available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile. You can remove the ad banners with a $1.49 in-app purchase.
PGA Tour is the official Windows 10 app for the PGA Tour. The app delivers tournament leaderboards and tee times, course information, player stats and the latest news from the Tour.
The free app is available for Windows 10 PC and offers a clean interface with some cool features such as 3D shot trails and hole visualizations. PGA Tour has Cortana integration for voice activated interaction and support for Windows Ink where you can add on-screen telestration that can be shared over social networks.
Notifications are available for breaking news, player activity and tournament scoring. You can log into PGA Tour with a My Tour account to synchronize all your favorites and settings across Windows 10 devices.
If you follow the Tour, PGA Tour is a must have app for your Windows 10 PC. It's a shame that there is not a Windows 10 Mobile version available, but the app plays out nicely from a Surface tablet for mobility.
Fairway Solitaire.
Fairway Solitaire isn't a game that puts you in the tee box or putting green of a golf course, but it delivers a fun golf-oriented Windows 10 game. Fairway Solitaire is a mashup between a round of golf and a game of solitaire.
The card hands are dealt out across over 350 hand-crafted golf holes with four mini-games and 37 trophies to earn. You have a pro shop where you can buy accessories to improve your game and soft-spoken announcers to chart your every move. You even have a pesky Caddyshack-style gopher that sabotages your game at every chance.
Gameplay follows the traditional game of solitaire, but with water hazards and sand traps that block your cards and a bag of golf clubs that act as wild cards. Holes or card hands are grouped together much like you would find on a golf course, and scoring is based on par, which is the acceptable number of cards left uncollected. Par or better unlocks the next set of levels.
Graphics are bright and colorful, animations lively, and the gameplay offers a nice challenge for your card playing skills. It may not be a traditional game of golf, but overall Fairway Solitaire does a great job of bringing that Links experience to a deck of cards. Fairway Solitaire is a free game available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile that provides you access to the first few courses. Unlocking the remaining courses costs you $1.99.
mScorecard.
mScorecard is an easy-to-use Windows 10 Mobile app to help you keep score on the golf course. The free app has more than 40,000 golf courses available for download that can be searched based on your current location or by keyword. Once downloaded, course information is but a tap away.
mScorecard can track your strokes and putts, breaking things down to fairways hit, greens reached in regulation, ups and downs, sand saves and penalties. GPS support is available for an overhead view of the holes and the ability to calculate distance to the green.
As you complete rounds, mScorecard can calculate and track your handicap index and analyze statistics to manage and improve your overall game. If you like to add friendly wagers to your games, mScorecard includes popular side games such as Skins, Nassau, Match Play, Stroke Play, longest drive and more.
The only downside to mScorecard is the lack of overhead views of each hole, but the GPS feature minimizes that loss. Overall, mScorecard is a handy Windows 10 Mobile app to have on the course. A free membership is required to use mScorecard to enable you to synchronize your stats between devices and share your scores over social networks.
Mini Golf Buddies.
Mini Golf Buddies is a casually-paced Windows 10 game that sends you to a challenging miniature golf course. Available for Windows 10 PC and Mobile, the free game has two game modes. The single player mode includes a 60-hole campaign and the multiplayer mode supports up to four players. The multiplayer mode is a pass-and-play style in which you compete for the best score on each of the 60 holes.
While casually paced, you face a game timer with each hole. The game clock pressure isn't very intense and takes into account the difficulty of the hole. For example, a straight shot par two hole may afford you 30 seconds to sink the putt while a zig-zag par five hole allows 90 seconds.
Graphics are clean looking with a slight, eight-bit retro appearance. Completing holes under par earns you gold that can be used to unlock additional player styles. Mini Golf Buddies includes 43 characters, ranging from a Canadian Mountie to a Zombie.
Mechanics are user friendly and each hole can be zoomed in or out as needed. The variety of hole difficulty presents a fun level of difficulty to test your putting skills. Overall, Mini Golf Buddies easily ranks among the best golf games available in the Windows Store.
If you have tried any of these Windows 10 golf apps, let us know what you think in the comments. There are other options available in the Windows Store, and if we have missed your favorite app, feel free to share recommendations in the comments.

Also Bigshi.
Rainbow Skies, Soul Saga, Wonder Flick.
Final Fantasy Type 0.
Kingdom Under Fire 2.
Devil May Cry 4.
J Stars Victory VS+
und einiges mehr.
Für mich ein schönes Jahr.
Aha. kommt Shadow Of The Beast also doch noch.
The Tomorrow Children.
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.
Shadow of the Biest genial wenn das kommt.
-Borderlands Handsome Collection.
-One Piece Pirate Warriors 3.
-Batman Arkham Knight.
-Star Wars Battlefront.

Xbox one golfspiel
Any specific reason you reccomend this over "The Golf Club"?
No, this not the only golf game. I'm sure that if you search the 'Steam store' you will find others. I'm not going to comment on which is better because it's a personal preference.

Arcade game - PG is not lol.

you might not agree with my opinion, as a developer i'm sure you are rightly biased towards your game, but at least give a reasoned answer, not a mindless one.
Thanks for the insight. I understand people who like having a golf sim(and it looks like a good one), I play a lot of flight sims myself. However, as far as the genre goes I was just looking for something leaning more to the arcade syle of TW. Something I can sit on my couch and play with a controller. If PG gets native controller support would purchase in a heartbeat since it is cheaper anyway.

Arcade would imply a simplified game system no? As we use extra system to make the game realistic just as adding timing to the motion swing and real world spin and ball physics I would say it makes it less of an arcade game. Of course you are entitled to our opinion but It didn't make sense to me.
Yeah, you kind of lost me with PG being "arcade golf" because it's nothing of the sort.
