All user reviews. Honestly, much of this game (after 100+ hrs) reminds me of all the awesome that ff7 provided me when I was young. The story told, while not bad or as lacking as some may suggest, doesn't compare, but the overall feel is there. Do yourself a favor and complete as many of the sidequests and explorative missions as possible (don't leave for Altissia) before taking the dive into the game's final chapters and the ending becomes immensely more satisfying. I won't deny that some of them come off as tedious/repetetive but I mean, few rpgs ever ditch fetch quests completely and in a way they feel kinda like homages to the older gens just by being there. Anyway, the whole point, imo, is to enjoy the good times while they last, but also to prepare for what's to come. do (& read, esp. in ch13) everything you can, take advantage of galdin/the leville, learn how to magic cheaply (sheep milk, leiden pep, etc) and you'll have a blast with ffxv. I'm One of the "First-Timers" Being the first Final Fantasy game I ever played, I gotta say that it might be one of the best games on my top 10. The story was REALLY good. I actually finished twice during the few days I owned it. The mix between cinematics and gameplay was nice. I also like all of the post-game stuff. There is still so much to do. This is a great game. I'll probably start getting future installments after having played this game. Good job Square Enix! UPDATE: The DLCs are great if you're really into the story. Only downside is that they're pretty short. Wish more was added to these Episodes, especially after having to wait for a while for their release. Not an FF from 10 years ago. This is not your father's Final Fantasy, but that's actually a good thing. There are plenty of great, turn-based RPGs out there, and FF as a series has been contributing to that market for decades. This game tries a new approach (at least, new for the series). Gameplay-wise, there isn't really anything ground breaking here, it's just so different from past FF games that it feels like a new innovation. The controls are tight and responsive, and combat is extremely fun and fluid (although there is a small learning curve you'll need to master as button mashing will get you killed). The Skill Grid offers enough customization to add depth to your leveling choices, and every interface is easy to use and understand. There is enough content to easily warrant 100+ hours if you intend to do everything. One down side is the story. I personally love it, but you'll need to watch all the extra content (the anime and movie) to get the complete picture. The graphics are amazing the story is amazing. Those of you who think otherwise should watch the movie kingsglaive before saying anything bad about the game. There is so much to do in the game such as side quests, hunts, (recommend doing all of them in each area that u can before moving on) treasure map quests, (you'll see) and hide and seek type quests. They even have dungeon quests for weapons. The only thing i don't like is that it does feel rushed around chapter 7 but u have a choice to stay or leave. The open world and the four main leads are the reason this game is so endearing, even in spite of its issues. The banter, the team attacks, the group photos all make for a surprisingly close knit relationship with Noct and his bros. But the story and side characters are a mixed bag; plot points are often unseen, never mentioned, or only hinted at, the supporting cast ranges from endearing and memorable to frustrating and bland, and combat, while fun, can sometimes feel like a slog. Add an on again off again development schedule and supplemental material ( the anime, the demos, the retro side scroller and the so-so movie ), and you get a game spread out over too much side content to be completely self sufficient. HOWEVER, the music, the set pieces, and the sheer spectacle of this beautiful world kind of make up for it. The game has a great start that puts you in an open world with few roadblocks almost immediately. However, once you leave the first continent, we run into a very linear game. Each subsiquent area is much smaller, and with far less to do. The game's story also runs into quite a few pacing issues. It feels very rushed from the midpoint onward, with very little in the way of information to help you actually understand what's going on. When you finally do end the game, you find yourself with more questions than answers, very unsatisfying. It's saving grace, however, is the Umbra system at rest points, where you can revisit areas to mop up side quests and get back to that open world. It's a rough ride with a lot of bumps along the way, but I am glad I completed the game. There's alot of repetition an minor glithches. I honestly get board at times with side quest. An dungeons kinda dont work wether it be a lvl gap or gear I could farm but main storys done so no real point. Feels like a lot of filler, an the repetitious comments from your npc friends gets old fast. An amazing & really immersive open world setting the graphics and scenery are beautiful. Combat is quick, fluid, fun and doesn't take long to get the hang of. The music in this game is great and beautiful, even relaxing at times all while still fitting the tone of the game. Your 3 friends that accompany you on the journey are a great addition and they initiate extra dialouge when while your adventuring through the world which keeps things interesting and really reminds you that there are 3 other people going on this journey with you (not like the sorta dumb nearly dead silent A.I. companions in other games.) Its all the little things Final Fantasy XV does that really makes it like no other game I've played on next gen.
