Xbox One: Niedrigere 3D-Grafikleistung als PS4. Die 3D-Grafikleistung von Microsofts Xbox One kommt an jene von Sonys PlayStation 4 nicht heran. Beide Konsolen basieren auf der x86-Technik und arbeiten mit GCN-Architektur, die Xbox hat hier jedoch weniger Rechengruppen, Rechenkerne und Textureinheiten, was ihre Leistung im grafischen Bereich einschränkt. Dass die Next-Generation-Konsolen ähnlich aufgebaut sind, macht es Entwicklern einfacher. Nach der Präsentation der Xbox One sind deren Hardwarespezifikationen nun bekannt. Diese lassen Rückschlüsse auf die 3D-Qualität der Xbox One zu und zeigen, dass die Konsole ihrer Konkurrenz von Sony, der PlayStation 4 (PS4), deutlich unterlegen ist, was diesen Punkt betrifft. Die Xbox One hat einen AMD-Kombiprozessor mit acht Jaguar-CPU-Kernen sowie einer DirectX-11.1-Grafikeinheit. Ähnlich ist es bei der PS4. Allerdings kann die Xbox One von GPU und Speichertransferrate nicht mit der PS4 mithalten, was sie in der 3D-Performance schlechter dastehen lässt. Sowohl Sony als auch Microsoft setzen bei ihren Next-Generation-Konsolen auf „ eine Radeon-GPU mit GCN-Architektur “. Die PS4 verfügt jedoch über eineinhalb mal so viele Rechengruppen, wesentlich mehr Rechenkerne und Textureinheiten als die Xbox. Damit erreicht die Konsole von Sony das Niveau einer Grafikkarte um 150 Euro. Für die Shader-Leistung bedeutet das, die PS4 hat um 50 Prozent mehr zu bieten als die Xbox One. Wieviele Funktionseinheiten die GPU hat, ist ein Faktor, der sich auf die grafische Darstellung auswirkt. Ein zweiter Faktor kommt durch die Geschwindigkeit zustande, mit welcher die „ Grafikdaten aus dem Speicher “ gelesen werden. Sonys Konsole arbeitet mit einem schnellen GDDR5-Speicher für den Zugriff von CPU und GPU, Microsoft hingegen nutzt den günstigeren DDR3-2133-Speicher und möchte die „ geringe Transferrate “ anderweitig ausgleichen. Dazu nutzt man einen eSRAM-Zusatzspeicher mit einer Kapazität von 32 Megabyte, der realtiv „ schnell angebunden sein “ soll. Die Kombination dieser Elemente kann zwar Geschwindigkeit bewirken, macht aber dafür den Aufwand für Entwickler höher, wie Sony-Chefentwickler Mark Cerny erklärte. Für die Entwickler angenehm ist die Umstellung der Konsolenhersteller auf die x86-Architektur „ und eine identische GPU “, denn zuvor waren die Konsolen „ grundverschieden “, was die Architektur anbelangt. Nun sollten Programmieraufwand sowie der Aufwand für Support und Optimierung von Spielen sich verringern. Es ist eine große Erleichterung für die Entwickler, wenn sie nicht ständig die Codes tiefgreifend an verschiedene Zielplattformen anpassen müssen. Durch diesen Umstand dürften viele Konsolentitel auch beim PC nicht mehr so lange auf sich warten lassen, und auch die Grafikqualität der PC-Spiele würde sich erhöhen. So far the only big difference if you call it big is that the Xbox One X can use a bit higher textures. Here's how to hack the existing cable into a longer one: Start by cutting the SATA cable in half length-wise. Note that the cable is in 2 halves side-by-by, one half is the A+ A- signals, the other is B+ B-.
