FRITZ!Box 7490 Service - Knowledge Base. If the Xbox displays the NAT type "Strict" or "Moderate", then some of the services or data required by the Xbox are being blocked. This is usually because port sharing was not configured. In this case, adjust the FRITZ!Box settings: Setting up automatic port sharing. Set up the FRITZ!Box for automatic port sharing so that the Xbox itself can open all of the ports in the FRITZ!Box that it requires: Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu. Click on the "Network Connections" tab. Click the button (Edit) for the device you would like to configure. Enable the option "Permit independent port sharing". Click "OK" to save the settings. Disabling the Teredo filter in the FRITZ!Box. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu. Click on the "Lists" tab. Disable the option "Teredo filter enabled". If the option is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first. Click "Apply" to save the settings. Setting up static port sharing. If you still cannot connect to online games or the connection drops, configure the required port sharings manually: Configure static port sharing in the FRITZ!Box for the ports and IP protocols used by Xbox Live. TCP ports: 53, 80, 3074 UDP ports: 53, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500 If the online game uses other ports in addition to the ones required for Xbox Live, configure port sharing for those ports in the FRITZ!Box. For example, FIFA 17, the football simulation game, requires the following port sharings: TCP ports: 53, 80, 3074, 3659 UDP ports: 53, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 3659, 4500. Note: With just a few clicks in the internet you can find lists of ports used by other games such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, Starcraft & Co., for example at www.portforward.com. Now the FRITZ!Box is completely configured for incoming and outgoing internet connections. If you still experience problems when playing individual online games or the Xbox still displays "moderate" as the NAT type, then the FRITZ!Box may not have obtained a public IPv4 address from your internet service provider. Note: The FRITZ!Box is not accessible from the internet over IPv4 when used on a DS-Lite internet connection. When DS-Lite is active, the status "IPv4 over DS Lite" is displayed under "Connections" on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface. IPv6 on Xbox One. Xbox One can connect to networks using two protocols that allow devices to transmit information: the traditional IPv4 communications protocol, and its newer version, IPv6. For Xbox One to connect to the Internet using IPv6, your home router needs to have IPv6 enabled, and your Internet service provider (ISP) must support IPv6. Internet Protocol version 6 is the most current network protocol, bringing several improvements over IPv4. Most important, IPv6 expands the number of possible IP addresses (the unique numbers that represent every device on the Internet). And—most useful for Xbox—the expansion removes the need for Network Address Translation (NAT), which can interfere with multiplayer gaming and chat over IPv4 networks. What if my Xbox One isn’t connected using IPv6? Your Xbox will work normally without IPv6 connectivity. However, for the best possible experience, we recommend enabling IPv6 on your network. Several Xbox One features already make use of IPv6, and we’re building more. How can I tell if my Xbox is connected using IPv6? Here’s how to check: On your controller, Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select Settings > All settings . Select Network > Network settings . If your Xbox One has IPv6 connectivity, your Current Network Status will read IPv4 & IPv6 . (To see your actual IP and gateway addresses, select Advanced settings .) My Xbox is using only IPv4. What should I do to add IPv6? Several home routers support IPv6 but disable it by default. Check the manual for your router, or visit our Networking Hardware Information support forum. My router has IPv6 enabled, but my Xbox is connected on IPv4. What else can I do? Try contacting your ISP to see if IPv6 is available in your area. 5 Best Xbox VPNs in 2018. Are you looking to get the most out of your Xbox One system? Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) in combination with your Xbox One could be a great way to increase your experience of the latest generation of Microsoft’s video game console. Why Do I Need a VPN for Xbox One? With the Xbox One (and PS4) doubling down as a gaming and home media center, more and more people are using the console to watch Netflix, Hulu, and more. In this case, a VPN can unblock streaming content that isn’t available in your region. Additionally, there might be a number of other reasons why you might be looking for a VPN for your Xbox One (or Xbox 360). There are plenty reasons why you might want to use a VPN with your Xbox system. I’ve included a brief guide to setting up a VPN on your Xbox towards the bottom of this page. Before that, let’s go over my recommendations for the best VPN for Xbox One! Best VPN for Xbox One: Summary. 1. ExpressVPN. Our review of ExpressVPN shows it’s hands down the best VPN for Xbox One. It offers the necessary combination of fast servers, strong encryption, and solid customer support, all backed up by a 30-day money-back guarantee. There are servers in 94 different countries, which is great news for Xbox gamers who need to connect to game servers in different regions. ExpressVPN is also unique for selling its own preinstalled VPN routers. Here at BestVPN.com, we’ve had a chance to review one of these routers, and we weren’t disappointed. The router is a breeze to set up, while VPN speeds and general network performance are also excellent. Try out ExpressVPN for yourself, I promise you won’t be disappointed! Check out the best VPN for Xbox One in 2017! VyprVPN comes in at second place on this list, with an impressive VPN for Xbox One. VyprVPN owns and operates all of its own hardware, which takes away a lot of concerns about speeds and reliability on the network. There is also an optional VyprDNS service, which is great news for those looking to unblock Netflix, YouTube, and similar services without the inevitable speed loss associated with a VPN. VyprVPN also has an app for Tomato routers, which allows you to easily get your Xbox, smart TV, and other devices all under the VPN network. Only want your Xbox One connecting to the VPN? No problem! VyprVPN’s router app allows you to easily manage individual device settings. Try out VyprVPN for Xbox One using the link below. 3. CactusVPN. CactusVPN is a small, Moldovan VPN that is another great option for Xbox One gamers. While more server options would be nice (especially for Asia), CactusVPN’s servers are configured and managed by in-house staff. The service is available on a number of platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Chromebook. Furthermore, CactusVPN offers users a choice of the Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP), Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)/Internet Protocol Security (IPSec), OpenVPN, Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), and SoftEther protocols. Those looking to unblock Netflix and other streaming services on their Xbox One will be happy to see that CactusVPN also has an optional Smart DNS service for a couple of extra dollars a month. Bottom line, CactusVPN is a solid option for improving your Xbox experience with a VPN. Check out their 24-hour free trial to see why! NordVPN is known for having some of the best security and privacy features that a VPN can offer. Optional double encryption, an automatic internet kill switch, and support for Tor over VPN are just some of the reasons NordVPN’s security features stand out from other VPNs. NordVPN’s support for six simultaneous connections means you can have the VPN covering all of your internet-connected devices. NordVPN also provides VPN routers via Flashrouters so you can easily get your Xbox One and other home devices enjoying the benefits of a VPN. There are some concerns regarding performance, but slower speeds could be a result of the increased security features I’ve mentioned. You can give NordVPN a try with no risk to your wallet thanks to a 30-day money-back guarantee! Read our NordVPN review for more in-depth information about their service. ibVPN is a Romanian VPN with over 100 servers in 47 countries. ibVPN uses 256-bit Blowfish encryption, which makes it an excellent option for securing your Xbox One and other devices with a VPN. If you want to cover all the devices you have, ibVPN also has a wide range of tutorials for getting the VPN installed on Tomato, DD-WRT, and Sabai routers. Our ibVPN review found that some connection logs are retained, which is one of the main reasons why we’ve ranked them fifth when it comes to the best VPN for Xbox One. Nonetheless, ibVPN is a solid all-round VPN, with extras like free Chrome, Firefox, and Opera extensions giving you plenty of bang for your buck. Hit the link below to try out ibVPN for yourself! Best VPN for Xbox One: Considerations. Play Xbox One Games from Anywhere in the World! One of the most irritating things that almost every gamer will eventually encounter is region restrictions on games. For instance, various titles in the Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto series are blocked in a number of countries in the Middle East. Luckily, geo-restrictions blocking you from playing your favorite games aren’t a complete dead end. A Virtual Private Network will let you access games that aren’t available in your region, or even change your timezone to let you play Xbox One games before they are even available in your area! Setting up a VPN on Xbox One can be a little challenging if you haven’t used one before – scroll down to see my Xbox One VPN set up guide! Protect Your Xbox One from Hackers. Whether it’s Halo, Rocket League, or Call of Duty, the competitiveness of online gaming has spawned an ugly twist: distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. A DDoS attack occurs when an online opponent spams your IP address with thousands of fake requests, causing your game to significantly lag or even disconnect! Read more about DDoS attacks in online gaming. While the chances of this happening are usually reserved for competitive leagues, one of the only real ways to protect yourself from a DDoS attack is by using a VPN. A VPN will encrypt all of your internet connection’s data, making it almost impossible for a hacker to individually target you. The threat of a DDoS attack when gaming online is quite slim, save for a few specific situations. Nonetheless, a VPN represents the best possible security for an Xbox One system! Unblock Geo-restricted Streaming Content on Xbox One. I’d be willing to bet that a significant portion of Xbox One owners use the system to stream shows from Netflix, Hulu, or even via the Kodi (XBMC) app. While the benefits of using an all-in-one home entertainment system are clear as day, the reality is that almost all of these people aren’t watching all the content they could be watching! As an example, let’s say you live in the UK and are using your Xbox One to stream your favorite Netflix shows. While this is undoubtedly awesome, you aren’t actually watching all the shows you could be watching. Using a VPN to access the US Netflix content could give you access to dozens of shows and movies that might not be available on Netflix UK! Of course, the main concern here is your connection handling the streaming of these HD shows and movies. Selecting a proven, fast VPN provider that supports Xbox One is critical to ensuring a smooth viewing experience. If that’s what you’re seeking, simply choose any of the VPNs I’ve mentioned above! Is There a Free VPN for Xbox One? Are you looking for a free VPN that can unblock content and stream Netflix on your Xbox One? While it is possible to get a free VPN for Xbox One, the reality is that most Xbox One gamers are much better off spending a couple dollars for a premium VPN service. For starters, free VPNs are always going to be limited when it comes to allowed bandwidth (usually caps out at 1 GB) while most are also littered with advertisements. Free is also never truely free, as these services are happy to take user information and pass it on to marketing and advertising agencies. That being said, a free VPN for Xbox One might be right for you if you only need a VPN for a couple of minutes! Check out my top recommendations for free Xbox One VPNs! How to Set up a VPN on Xbox One. Much like the Xbox 360, PlayStation, or Wii, there is no native support for VPNs within the Xbox One system. While this is slightly disappointing, there are two quick ways to set up a VPN on Xbox . Let me show you how! Option #1- Share your VPN connection through your home router. Sign up to one of the recommended Xbox One VPN services I’ve highlighted above. Open your home internet router’s control panel/admin section. Check the router’s documentation for where to find this. Find the Network/Setup/Settings/WAN tab in your router’s control panel. Enter the VPN setup details that were sent to you when you signed up. This will probably be some combination of a username, password, and server address that are all provided by the VPN service. Confirm/accept/save these changes and close your router’s control panel. Start up your Xbox system. Navigate to the “Network Settings” tab under “System Settings.” Configure your Xbox to automatically connect to the router you set up earlier. Save any settings and that’s it! Your Xbox will now be enjoying the benefits of a VPN straight from your router! Option #2- Sharing your computer’s VPN connection with your Xbox One. Sign up to one of the recommended Xbox One VPN services I’ve highlighted above. Install and have the VPN running on your home computer. Turn on your Xbox and connect it to your computer using a wired (Ethernet cable) connection. On your home PC, go to the “Network and Sharing Center” under the Windows Control Panel. Click on “Change Adapter Settings” on the left menu. Right click on your VPN connection and click “Properties.” Click on the “Sharing” tab and tick the box that says “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.” A drop down menu will appear below. Select “Ethernet” (or “Local Area Connection”) and click “OK.” You are all set! Your Xbox should now be using your PC’s VPN connection to access the internet. Another option is to bypass all of these silly setup instructions and simply purchase a router with a VPN preinstalled. Check out our ExpressVPN router review! Like it? Share it! FRITZ!Box and Xbox One – Setting Up an Internet Connection. FRITZ!Box and Xbox One – Setting Up an Internet Connection. The Xbox One by Microsoft is also equipped with a wide variety of multiplayer functions including competitive and cooperative multiplayer content, cloud services, chat and community services. To use these functions, establish a connection to the home network and the Internet either wirelessly over WiFi or using a cable. Xbox One – Insert Cable and Off You Go. As for the PS4, a conventional LAN cable connection is the easier choice. Insert one end of the cable in the LAN port of the console, located on the far right of the back panel. Then plug the other end into a free interface on your FRITZ!Box. Once you have switched the console on, the connection is established automatically and no further settings are needed. Configuring Wireless LAN on the Xbox One. The first time the console is started, you have the option of using a Wizard to establish the wireless connection. Simply follow the instructions on the screen, select the name of your home network from the list, and enter your network key. You can return to this screen later by pressing the menu key on the controller and going to the "Network Settings". Now you can enter a new wireless LAN to the Xbox One. Select your home network from the list that appears after a network scan, and then conclude the procedure by entering your network key. If you ever change the wireless LAN properties on the FRITZ!Box (network name, key), this is where you will have to reconfigure the connection in the Xbox One. Testing the Connection and Troubleshooting. Once the Xbox One is registered with the wireless network, you can establish a test connection in this menu. If this test is successful, the Internet functions of the console will be available. If it is not possible to establish the connection, you can use the error diagnostics provided by the system. Alternatively, repeat the configuration process; often the problem is as simple as transposed digits in the network key. Depending on the conditions where you live, sometimes a network cable is preferable to a wireless connection. Which variant is better for you will be explained in an upcoming article in this guide. If you would like to read detailed information on the connection between the Xbox One and the FRITZ!Box, click here. How to open a port on the FRITZ BOX WLAN 7050. FlashRouters Open Source VPN Routers - DD-WRT & TomatoUSB Privacy Firmware. You have no items in your shopping cart. FlashRouters Blog. Get Your Network Ready for the Xbox One. We gave you a little heads up about the Xbox One back in May, but we figured now that we were getting closer to the November 22nd release date, why not offer a little tutorial on how to get your network ready? After all, the Xbox One is not being marketed as a mere gaming system; if the hype is to be believed, the Xbox One will stomp all over your PlayStation and casually fling your Roku into your desktop screen. This is the entertainment system to end all entertainment systems, and you better make sure you have a weapons-grade network ready to handle all of the bandwidth demands the Xbox One entertainment console will will require. Meet the Xbox One. The Upcoming XBox One. But before we actually start prepping your network, we ought to at least mention what it is the Xbox One does (rather than just keep vaguely comparing it to a world-crushing monster). As we alluded to above, Microsoft is marketing the Xbox One as an “all-in-one entertainment system”. This means that, aside from all the usual fun that comes with an Xbox gaming console, the Xbox One will offer Skype, integration with your television (to the point of learning your viewing habits and making recommendations), and even social media integration complete with increased cloud computing functionality! The Xbox One will also include a Kinect camera and sensor that will be attuned to the owner’s heartbeat, a microphone that enables voice command, and can even be controlled by your phone or tablet. In short, if used properly, the Xbox One will be the gateway to all of your music, movies, television, and gaming. No longer will it be necessary to toggle through several different systems to switch between your iTunes library and your movie library. This may be the system we’ve all been waiting for. Xbox One Specs and Availability. Expert Reviews in the UK have a damn good rundown on the hardware and specs of the Xbox One, and it’s definitely worth checking out, but we thought it’d be useful to synthesize that data so you can get a quick look at what you’ll be dealing with. The Xbox One offers: 853 MHz GPU clock speed 500GB internal hard disk, along with a Blu-ray optical drive to play games and films 8GB of DDR3 RAM – “which has a 68.3GB/s memory bandwidth, along with 32MB of embedded ESRAM. This faster memory has a theoretical memory bandwidth of 192GB/s, although 133GB/s simultaneous read/writes speeds look more likely for early launch titles.” x86 Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) designed by AMD, based on its Jaguar processor architecture 8 Core CPU 802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct HDMI In/Out USB 3.0 Xbox SmartGlass & Skype Integration. For those of you wondering if Xbox One is going to be available at a store near you on the initial release date, you’ve got no need to worry provided you’re in one of the following countries: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, the UK, and the USA. For the rest of you, the wait will be a bit longer (though we suspect some of you may travel for it if need be). Best Routers for Xbox One. As we mentioned above, these Xbox Ones are going to be bandwidth-gobbling monsters: you don’t get one machine handling all of your media and expect it to go easy on your wireless network. Open the link in the verification email then log in to your account on https://www.dynu.com and select DDNS Services . Click on + Add to add a DDNS service. If you do not have a hostname already, enter your desired hostname in Option 1 and click + Add . This is the recommended option for users who are not familiar with domain names. If you already have your own domain name, enter your domain name in Option 2 and click +Add . Once done, you will see your hostname and your current public IP. Uncheck both Wildcard Alias and Enable IPv6 Address and click Save . And that’s it! Your DDNS hostname is set up and ready to be used! Sign in to update your hostname. From your Xbox One’s web browser, sign in to your account on https://www.dynu.com. This will ensure that your IP is updated in order to use MediaStreamer. Get your DNS server IP address. To set up the MediaStreamer DNS server on your Xbox One , you will need to obtain the MediaStreamer DNS server IP address. Open the Welcome Email you received when you signed up for ExpressVPN. Click the link in the email . Once you’ve clicked the link in the welcome email or logged in to the website, click on Set Up ExpressVPN on the Active Subscriptions page. Select Xbox on the left side of the screen. On the right, you will find the MediaStreamer DNS server IP address . You will need this address for the setup. Configure the Language & Location settings on your Xbox One. You need to first set your Xbox One’s language to English and location to United States . If your Xbox One’s language and location settings are already configured this way, then skip to the next section. With your Xbox One up and running, open Settings from the main screen. Set the Language to English and the Location to United States . You are now ready to configure the network settings. Configure the DNS servers on your Xbox One. Return to the main menu by pressing the Xbox button on the controller. Go back into Settings . For the Primary DNS, enter the numbers you obtained earlier . For the Secondary DNS, enter the same numbers that you obtained earlier. When you are done, you will see a screen confirming your network settings. Press the (B) button to save your settings. You will then see a screen saying, “It’s all good”. Congratulations! MediaStreamer DNS has been set up on your Xbox One! MediaStreamer is NOT a VPN. It does not offer the same privacy and security benefits as a VPN. Register your hostname to access MediaStreamer with DDNS. In order to use the MediaStreamer smoothly, you must register your hostname on the ExpressVPN website . Follow these steps to register your hostname. Go to www.expressvpn.com and click on MY ACCOUNT on the top header bar. Sign in using your account information. After signing in, click DNS Settings in the top header bar. Under Dynamic DNS Registration , enter the hostname you want to register and click Save Hostname . After the process is completed, you will see an indication that the hostname has been updated.
