by Sean Engemann. It would be wrong to glance at the title and misinterpret its meaning as miniscule frights that couldn’t possibly penetrate your tough skin. Little Nightmares is a very disturbing game, one that pulls you back into your childhood and manifests each dreadful fear you had while the darkness of night enveloped your house. It turns those memories into an interactive reality in this horror puzzler. After having their hands in LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway Unfolded , developer Tarsier Studios has taken their side-scrolling platformer skills to grim levels. Here, they pit a frail, nine-year-old girl named Six against the denizens of her house, a prison called The Maw that she is desperately trying to escape. Starting in the depths of a cold steel floored and pipe strewn basement, Six moves from one room to the next. Her singular goal is to locate the room’s exit and discover what needs to be manipulated to access her escape hatch. Nestled around the abstract and enlarged set pieces are objects and furniture to physically influence, some designed to solve your current predicament and others placed simply as a pretense of normalcy. You may cling to a few childish joys, like having Six traipse through a pool of black sludge barefoot and using the floorboards as a canvas for her foot paintings. Or perhaps you will spend a few extra minutes in the toy room, knocking over wooden blocks and dangling on an oversized swing set or chasing a toy train around a merry-go-round, if nothing more than to distract your mind from the electrified prison bars on either side of the room. The only warmth in Little Nightmares comes from the cigarette lighter Six clutches tightly in her hand; it is her sole weapon against the shadows, her other arm shielding the flame from the wind as she scurries away from worm like monsters trying to constrict the life out of her. Other rooms require caution and patience in order to avoid the petrifying gaze (literally) of the keepers of the house. Eyes are always watching in some form, carved into wooden doors, stamped on toy blocks, and scrawled on the walls, instilling a constant reminder that the adults are always aware. Little Nightmares ’s journey changes pace often. At times you’re given an eternity in a lifeless room, then move to an adjacent room where you have to hide from and tiptoe around a grotesque adult. This could be followed by a chase through a hallway with twenty foot arms mere inches from strangling your scrawny torso. Though this is not a horror game that thrives on jump scares, even the moments of silence had me worried that every new animation could expose me to discovery. I found myself hiding in cages, behind boxes, and anywhere else in the shadows after successfully completing many of the puzzles, wondering if my mischief had stirred any adults and alerted them to my presence. Each warped and artistic frame is either filled with beautiful details and disturbing imagery or purposefully barren, cold, and constricting backdrops to heighten the feelings of solitude. Whether it’s ashtrays spilling over discarded cigarette butts or the dusty remains of other children incinerated by the gaze of a monstrous eye in the wall, you’ll be beckoned to pause and snap the flame on your cigarette lighter not only to check darkened corners, but also just to appreciate the vision the designers and artists put on display. There is a juxtaposition of scale at play in Little Nightmares . Though nine-years-old, from the lens of a child the world seems much larger and imposing, and this contrast is made true with chairs, dresser, and other furniture easily three to four times the size of our toddler heroine. The game also plays off-balance (again, literally), as the world sways like a creaky planked ship on the sea, catalyzing a queasiness within your belly as you shift from side to side while a tube of toilet paper or a tin can rolls along with the teetering camera. Oftentimes, this weight shift plays into solving puzzles, as you time your movements or pulling of a hefty object to access an out of reach switch.

one of the best 2d horror games of all time. Little Nightmares is a puzzle platforming horror game where you play as a girl Little Nightmares. one of the best 2d horror games of all time. Little Nightmares is a puzzle platforming horror game where you play as a girl trying to escape the maw… And apparently you’re delicious because everyone here is trying to eat you… This is probably one of the coolest 2d platforming games I’ve ever played… The puzzles aren’t difficult here and the platforming isn’t really difficult either… At first you’re for the most part you’re just going forward. Going over obstacles, pulling items, throwing switches, and figuring out fairly simple environmental puzzles… and then you run into your first enemy. and this is where things get scary. Little Nightmares is hands down one of my favorite horror games of all time. Doing horror better than most first person games. You’re hiding in the shadows, sneaking around. under tables and beds praying you don’t get caught by the enemies walking around trying to eat you. This is horror done right.. trying to find your way through rooms while dealing with a threat… trying to get to key items and back without being seen. the trial and error stealth gameplay is satisfying, And the game mixes it up with just platforming or chase sequences, so the pacing is perfect.. And gameplay feels varied. No 2 enemy encounters feel the same. Though there are a few frustrating moments in the game where I felt I was getting by with luck. specifically an annoying table scene that I had to keep climbing on top of and running through over and over because of the games sometimes pretty awful checkpoints… and dying will be pretty frequent as this is sort of actually a 2.5 d platformer with layers… This sometimes makes it hard to tell if you’re going to jump at an item you’re trying to grab onto and fall behind it or not… But thankfully theme moments in my 4 hour journey were rare… Little Nightmares is terrifying at times. and the level design and character design is varied and memorable.. Horror Games and Platformer fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this one up. I Give Little Nightmares. Premiato per l'atmosfera e la colonna sonora, discreto come gameplay, insufficiente per la longevità. … Expand. Little Nightmares Secrets of The Maw Expansion Pass. They'll be released at a later date, and I'm sure they'll be fantastic like the main game was. I was, however, a bit thrown off by there not being a download for the pass. I expected the 10 MB expansion pass download that usually comes with purchases like this. For this, you just buy it and it says you own it. This is a little peculiar to me. Oh, well. All in all, I'm unbelievably excited for this extra content. I originally pre-ordered the main game only because the screenshots and description made it look and sound interesting. I risked $19.99 on a game I had never heard of simply because I thought it seemed cool. The main game, while short, was better than I expected it would be. When the end credits started rolling, I almost started crying because I wanted more SO BADLY. And now here it is. I bought this pass the second it was available for purchase. I'm so ready for this new content! It's gonna be great! 178 out of 187 people found this helpful. Cant wait for Secrets of the Maw DLC! Lately ive been playing little "mini games" as i call them, like this for awhile now. Little Nightmares so far is the best one for graphics. Its also has a nice mix of problem solving and hurry up style to it. As for the story. I dont know whats going on but im still playing and hopefully all these wierd fat mask wearing monsters will make a little sence at the end. while we wait for the new DLC, i suggest buying a similar style and mysterious game like this in the xbox store entitled "INSIDE". Another VERY fun mini game. 67 out of 72 people found this helpful. They should really keep making more of this. I like that you get to play as the boy and the closer you get to the ending the more challenging it gets. And what i dont like is how graany keeps poping up out of nowhere. Like when i was playing i was standing on wood and she pulled me thru the wood. So what i'm trying to say is. I LOVE THE GAME.And when i got the chapter it imidietly gave me both masks.the scarecrow and the upside down teapot. So I LOVE YOU GUYS.And god bless for the people who made the game.Thank you. 28 out of 29 people found this helpful. Good DLC, but very glitchy. I liked the original game, it's different and new, I was glad to see that DLC was comin, so I bought the complete edition. I enjoyed the first add-on story, I liked how it's tied in to the main story, very cool, but the second DLC kinda ruined the fun for me, due to many glitches I experienced. The most annoying glitch I encountered was when the little characters (I think people are calling them "Nomes"?) would literally get stuck and not move, I won't spoil the story, but in order to progress, you need them, so I was forced to restart from my checkpoint, sometimes it would happen again 😑. The dlc can be beat in about 30 minutes, which is a bit disappointing, and finally. supposedly there are 3 achievements, but as I'm writing this, they still aren't available? To the devs who made this game, maybe actually test it before releasing it? Overall, good add-on, but very glitchy. 18 out of 21 people found this helpful. JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SCARY. The challenges are great and character art are awesome. Don't like horror games like outlast or 5 nights, but this had just the right amount of suspense. A must play! 30 out of 33 people found this helpful. Glitchy, But fun, and. It was cool. Glitchy but fun with many puzzles. AND FOR EVERYONE WHO DOESNT KNOW, THE LAST DLC CHAPTER COMES OUT ON FEBUARY 10TH 2018! A lot of people dont know this. And also give the developers a chance to see whats wrong with the glitches. Its called "giving feed back". So dont expect them to know as soon as its released. Expect more glitches when ch. 3 comes out. 10 out of 11 people found this helpful. 6 out of 7 people found this helpful. I liked the new DLC but their needs to be more improvements, the knomes will bug out and got in your way and it felt long and hard working without joy to do some of the puzzles, i loved the ending and the beginning, and please put more parts were we see Six in the next DLC. 5 out of 6 people found this helpful. where are the achievements. 8 out of 11 people found this helpful. I absolutely loved this game. I've never been one for horror but this game(other than Limbo) is the only exception. Other than a few clunky platforming sections, almost everything about this game was phenomenal. The ambiance and chillingly playful soundtrack really drove eveything this game had going for it and then some. I only wish it were longer. It being so short leaves me craving for more and I hope it gets more content in the future. But all in all, I would definitely recommend. Solid 9.5 / 10. 99 out of 104 people found this helpful. Really fun game. the game is really fun and had a really good concept and an awesome puzzle aspect to it. The graphics were also really cool, they had almost a tim burton movie (the nightmare before christmas) type of feel to it. Even though it didn't have any jump scares it still had a really creepy vibe to it which I loved! The only thing I didn't like is that the game is really short. 105 out of 111 people found this helpful. Absolutely Amazing. This game is now my number 1 favorite. The art style, and the music is amazing along with the puzzles. You should 100 percent get this game, along with the DLC. The games run time is maybe 4 hours depending on how you play, and the new DLC makes it longer. The thing I dislike the most is haters, they have no clue what they're talking about. This game is the best I've seen in awhile. 224 out of 243 people found this helpful. Amazing completion. I sacrificed about 90 deaths before I got Hard To The Core, but it was an amazing experience. I'd say this was a harder completion than Limbo, but still quite doable with enough practice (and patience). The atmosphere was incredible and the gameplay was addicting. There was no story, background or dialog but I actually enjoyed that about it. It leads us to use our imagination and piece the game together ourselves. And as a Souls fan, I'm happy to see Bandai Namco behind this as well. ❤ Great gaming experience, I highly recommend this to anyone. 🙂 67 out of 71 people found this helpful. It felt like playing something between, a Tim Burton film, and a Tool video. Solid puzzles and awesome chase sequence's! Graphics were incredible. 66 out of 68 people found this helpful. Amazing, but short. I loved it! It's a beautifully done game. A great mix of action and puzzel solving. I'd say my only "complaint" is that it's a pretty short game. Would still recommend playing. 23 out of 23 people found this helpful. ANSWER to APPLE. A New 'Limbo' Little Nightmares is a great side-scroll (with 3d controls) survival horror game. The enemy designs are eerily creepy and the area designs area great and very well detailed. The Controls/mechanics are solid and i've not encountered a single bug (it's very polished). Overall, if you like a good, interesting Limbo-Esq game, or just horror in general, yes, this is definitely worth $20. 22 out of 22 people found this helpful. Pretty Fun. The game was amazing. The ending was confusing and creepy yet awesome. Loved it! Very atmospheric! Awesome graphics and great music score! It has puzzle solving, adventure and horror all combined into 1 game. Also if you like platforming you will love this game, and I am excited to play the DLC. 58 out of 61 people found this helpful. A slightly darker (but also more colorful) Inside. As a fan of previous 2/2.5 D sidescrollers, I knew I had to get this. About half way through it as I'm typing this, but I love it. The puzzles arn't exactly anything new, but the climbing & stealth mechanics are brilliant. Also worth noting that the animation style is just great. The story, albeit incredibly subtle, it interesting so far and already I have encountered some pretty dark stuff. Can't wait to finish it, but also don't want it to end. Definately worth it. 27 out of 28 people found this helpful. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. This game always kept me on the edge of my seat and my heart always racing. Little Nightmares is a little game. The main character is little. The world is little. And the story is little. Big things come in small packages. This abstract horror puzzle platformer has some of the most satisfying game play I can remember in a platformer. There isn’t a ton of unnecessary action, but when the game makes you do some platforming, it feels great, both tonally and in terms of gameplay. The campaign in Little Nightmares is not huge, but it gets done what it sets out to do in the beginning. The premise of Little Nightmares shouldn’t be taken lightly: There isn’t a ton of background knowledge offered up at the beginning of the game. A very brief cut scene is revealed to be a nightmare from the main character, Six. After the brief scene, you are given control of the lighter-toting, yellow rain coat wearing little girl. The world is huge around Six, and the majority of the game revolves around using your wits and lighter to get out of a bad situation, even though you usually just land in a worse one, though. The game takes place in a three dimensional space. Six can jump, sprint and climb. When things get too dark, she can use her lighter to light up her immediate vicinity. There is no combat, and the only way to survive encounters with enemies is to not get caught in the first place. As the game goes on, the environment and enemies become much more menacing and disturbing. Without spoiling anything, It is safe to say that the enemies look as though they could come out of a David Lynch film. The entire game does, actually. The tone of the environment is my favorite part of the game. I am always on the look out for a dark game, and Little Nightmares truly delivers on that want. Deep into darkness: The game play in Little Nightmares is satisfying. There are ledges to climb and obstacles to cross. You can pull and push things in the world to solve puzzles, and doing this is imperative to coming out of Little Nightmares alive. At some points, you find yourself climbing tall ladders and jumping over ravines. Other times, you find yourself evading the horrifying enemies. The gameplay is certainly not groundbreaking. As for the gameplay, there are no new experiences. That’s fine with me, though, because the world in which you do it is new and creepily dark. My chief complaint among gameplay items is that the ledge grabbing seems to work inconsistently. There will be times when trying to grab a ledge simply does not work and you fall to your death. This is an annoyance, but it rarely happens. Another complaint is that occasionally is the camera angle may not always be the best. You have full visibility, but you will be crossing a narrow beam and walk off of the side through seemingly no fault of your own. These issues were so few and far between that it does not negatively impact the gameplay. The atmosphere makes up for the minor missteps. Top all of this off with a few off the wall set pieces, and the overall gameplay in Little Nightmares is an absolute delight. Dark presentations throughout: The art and soundtrack of Little Nightmares is dark. The game fully embraces the darkness in both graphical and auditory senses. The environment is dark in nearly every scene, and when the light shines through, the contents of the environment are much creepier than the darkness. The art style is dark and creepy. Even the least menacing environments could evoke shudders from unsuspecting players. The sound design is something else entirely. There is chanting, eating, meat grinders making noise. Thinking back to my time with the game, I can’t even remember the music. This just shows you, or it shows me, at least, that the non-music sound design is much more important than the classically important music. When Six falls from a high height, there is a terrible crunch. The enemies sound more like demented monsters than the people they are representing. The entirety of Little Nightmares takes place in a dark hellscape. The darkness takes place throughout the audio and graphical representation. The overall darkness of the game takes precedent over the otherwise standard presentation. The gameplay doesn’t do anything spectacularly different, but when illuminated by the context of Little Nightmares, tried and true game mechanics take on a new meaning. There is a dark progression. There is characterization that takes place non-verbally throughout the campaign. Six grows in persona throughout, and by the end of the game, you get to witness a great progression. The game isn’t that long, but every moment is soaked in creepy beauty. Little Nightmares is a big experience in a small game and I cannot wait until I play it a second time. Anything developing little nightmares is a win for humanity. 11 out of 13 people found this helpful. Great, but needs some improvement.
