Initially, Xbox One Edition was planned to no longer receive updates, starting with the lack of an equivalent update to TU58, but the edition later received CU50, an update adding the MINECON Earth Skin Pack, and later updates resumed entirely with CU51, an update equivalent to TU60 which also added all the features from TU58. Compared to Xbox 360 Edition , Xbox One Edition included larger world sizes up to 5120x5120 blocks (36 times larger), 18 chunk render distance, amplified worlds, and enhancements offered by the Xbox One. [1] Despite it being very similar to Bedrock Edition , Xbox One Edition still has all of the Legacy Console Edition exclusive features, with the most notable being the built-in mini games. Because of licensing restrictions, some of the Xbox One Edition DLC is unavailable in Bedrock Edition, and some of it is not on the Marketplace and can only be obtained if it was bought for the Xbox One Edition . For Xbox 360 Edition players who wish to transfer worlds, it is preferable to buy the disc version of Xbox One Edition instead of buying the new Bedrock Edition, and do so before January 30, 2018. With no current method of transferring worlds directly from the Xbox 360 Edition to Bedrock Edition for Xbox One, the only way is to import the Xbox 360 world in Xbox One Edition and then import the Xbox One world in Bedrock Edition after getting it from playing the Xbox One Edition for five hours. It is unknown what will happen to the transfer functionality after the Xbox 360 Edition is updated with new content that does not exist in the Xbox One Edition . Minecraft has become a phenomenon over the past five years, and now the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are some of the best places to play it. Though it may look primitive at a glance, your options in this virtual sandbox world are limited only by your imagination. Cobbling together a first home out of dirt and stone feels great; building a castle with a moat, a dining hall, and a working underground rail system feels even greater. That sense of creative progression, coupled with the inherent danger of exploring underground caverns full of monsters, makes Minecraft exciting, rewarding, tense, and one of gaming’s most expressive creative outlets. Minecraft’s randomly generated worlds are composed of these big blocky cubes of dirt, stone, sand, and dozens of other materials. The blocks are colorful, distinct, and memorable thanks to simple but charming textures. What makes them great is how they enable creativity. Piece by piece you’ll rearrange and refine the pristine, primordial world into whatever you want. It could be a mountainside home, a huge tree house, a skyscraper, or any other creation you can envision. This is a power we rarely see in games, and the freedom it offers is, at first, daunting. In Survival mode, each block must be chipped at and collected by hand from an open world. What initially feels like a tedious task becomes the basis for Minecraft’s rewarding core gameplay. I had to gather, transport, and place each piece of my home myself, so it was impossible not to feel a fierce sense of pride and ownership over it and all my other creations, big and small. When the sun goes down, Minecraft’s bad guys come for you. They are scary and dangerous… for maybe an hour. Once you obtain the simple items needed to ward them off, they become almost completely non-threatening. This feels immediately disappointing. Why have enemies at all if they become laughable in no time? But later, as my ambitions for building outgrew my resources on hand, my quest for new materials drove me deeper underground. Down there I realized those same enemies that are easy to defeat on the surface felt far more challenging to fight in the confines of a rocky corridor where they could ambush me. The amount of danger I was in was tied to how far from my base I roamed. Losing everything I carried to a Creeper who got the drop on me was a heartbreaking lesson, but the excitement of exploring new places and the risk it entails provided a constant tension. All the while, gathering new blocks and items sent my mind reeling with more ideas for landscaping and home decoration. Those goals don’t change when you bring friends in, but whether you’re cooperating or trying to outdo each other with larger, grander creations, having other people there makes Minecraft more rewarding. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft allow two- to four-player split-screen play, and there’s an online mode that accommodates up to eight. Joining other people’s worlds is easy, too, thanks to a simple, easy-to-use lobby. Unlike in the sometimes-cramped PS3 and 360 versions, the improved power of the new-generation consoles can handle vast worlds. They're 36 times larger, in fact, and there's plenty of room to spread out and build, even in a full eight-player game. If you thought Minecraft was just about stacking blocks, the tutorial will wipe away that perception quickly. The quick and comprehensive introduction fully explains the basics of gathering, building, and crafting, and different stations around the tutorial world teach you how to enchant items, brew potions, start a garden, set up working electrical circuits, ride a boat, build golems, and more. There’s a huge number of activities going on here. The crafting interface conveniently includes recipes for every item, and it highlights the items you don’t yet have in your inventory. With dozens and dozens of combinations available, the built-in recipes keeps you playing rather than hunting through wiki guides and memorizing recipes. Minecraft’s many items and systems are too numerous to list in entirety, but a few stand out. As you kill things and mine certain materials, you’ll earn experience orbs which can be spent on enchantments. It makes mining and fighting things faster, easier, and more fun. The same can be said for potions, which heal you, grant resistance to fire, and more. Light RPG elements like these add depth to Minecraft without bloating the interface with skill trees or stat screens. Under all that adventuring is Minecraft’s brilliant builder toy. Creative Mode basically enables all the cheat codes and lets you play with it freely, turning off monster damage, letting you fly, and giving you endless supplies of all the materials to build to your heart’s content. Without having to work and fight for them, my creations in this mode felt a little hollow. Still, Creative Mode is as much fun as a bottomless tub of LEGOs, and between the fun of flexing my own imagination and checking out the amazing projects other people have constructed, it’s full of possibilities. We’ve all spent a lot of time playing games where the goal is to kill things and break stuff down. It’s nice to finally play a game about building something up. Reshaping a pristine landscape into new world using your own two hands while things try to kill you isn’t just an amazingly rewarding gaming experience, it’s a clever retelling of human history. In a way, this is what we’re all instinctively driven to do, and Minecraft captures it brilliantly on new-gen systems. Newer players often like to explore, but once they stop exploration, especially in an abandoned mine, they get lost and end up somewhere totally different, away from home. Short of remembering where you last slept and copying the X, Y, and Z values for future editing back to spawn/preferred place, use the following tricks to never get lost: Explore systematically: If you find a fork in the road, or multiple forks, take them one at a time. When you reach an end, and mining near it yields nothing, then either mark it or use a common block (like gravel) to seal a path off. Set breadcrumbs: While mining and exploring, be sure to mine up bits of the floor, using cobblestone or a block different from the floor as a pointer to the way out; or an ore block to note an intersection, so you have something to identify where you began later. While this will damage your pick more, knowing the way back is more valuable than a tool, especially since the wooden planks in abandoned mines are abundant. Keep natural landmarks: Scoop up the first source of water that leads to nowhere, but leave everything else. Some of the water flowing from walls may be useful for exploration. Also, if there is lava out of your way, do not go out of your way to put it out -- it emits light, which may be encased in a structure with glass (panes) as natural lighting. Know the way outside, and know when there is lava: Torches emit a bright light that fades into warmer tones. Lava has a brighter radius of light, meaning its brightest point is larger. If you see light that you did not create, then it is obviously a lava pool. Outside light on the other hand uses cooler tones. When you are near ground, it does not have the warmth of torch light, taking on a more fluorescent white color near the rock, or at night time, a light shade of blue. Obsidian is a block that takes 15 to 50 seconds to collect. It requires 15 seconds with a diamond pickaxe, and 50 seconds with anything else. If you are wanting to make a near-indestructible building or structure, obsidian the best choice. Sometimes it is naturally occurring, but often times it must be manually made. First, you will need to find flat lava that is not flowing. Then, collect water with a bucket, and put the water onto the lava. Alternately, find flat water and collect lava. A blackish-purplish block should appear, which is obsidian, and requires a long time to collect. It is much easier to just spawn obsidian, but you will need a mod to be able to spawn it in Single Player mode. Spleef multiplayer game. Many Minecraft players like to play a free-for-all game called "Spleef". It basically consists of two or more players creating a square stadium (approximately 15 to 20 blocks long or wide) that is floating or above lava or water. The object of the game is to destroy the blocks (stone and dirt are best) around your opponents either with or without tools. Players can choose whichever tools to use, but you can also set rules (for example, no diamond pickaxes). The goal is for the players to try and make their opponents fall through the stadium to eliminate them. The last player standing is the winner.
