The whole Mass Effect Trilogy is now playable on Xbox One. The trilogy Tali is complete. To accompany the N7 Day reveal of Mass Effect: Andromeda , Microsoft has announced that the entire Mass Effect trilogy is now backwards compatible and can be played on Xbox One. Shepherd's second and third outings now accompany the original game on Mircosoft's current gen platform. Mass Effect 3 was released in 2012, over a year before the Xbox One made it onto shelves. EA has previously announced that it has no interest in creating remasters of the original games, as is the current trend among some publishers. Instead, it wants BioWare to focus on creating the best ME game it possibly can with Andromeda . It looks like backwards compatibility is as near as players will get to a re-release. In theory, there's nothing to stop BioWare from adding features like 4K support to the original games, but it doesn't sound like this is a likely prospect. The Backwards Compatibility scheme has proven one of Microsoft's better ideas of the past few years, and is all in service of creating an ecosystem which, like the PC, doesn't abandon older games when console generations advance. Customers are able to vote on the games they would most like see entered into the scheme, and Mass Effect 3 is currently number six on the list. Congrats everyone, your wish was granted. Now, however, Electronic Arts has spoken out to tell fans they should not hold their breath for such a collection. "I won't lie and say we haven't looked at it," EA executive Patrick Söderlund told Game Informer . "But for us, it's about weighing where we spend our resources. Is it better for them to be working on a completely new IP, which you know BioWare is, or should they be remastering a Mass Effect?" It looks like the Mass Effect trilogy is indeed heading to the Xbox One and PS4, if listings posted by Chilean retailer Zmart Games are anything to go by. First spotted by eagle-eyed NeoGAF user Rushersauce, the listings aren't accompanied by any solid information regarding release dates or prices. You can, however, sign up for notifications when more becomes available. Rumours of a remastered trilogy first emerged in March, when general manager of BioWare's Edmonton and Montreal studios Aaryn Flynn revealed that the topic had been "discussed." If a port of the popular sci-fi trilogy is indeed in development, it would be far from the first time a game had been leaked by a retailer (The Last of Us: Remastered anyone?). But to err is human, so as always, take this with a grain of salt. By all accounts, BioWare is hard at work on the next installment of the franchise. While release date details have yet to be revealed, we're due an update sometime this year. So far all we've had are a few teaser images, a promise that it will be fresh but recognisable, and may have nothing to do with Shepard. We'll update you with more information as it comes. Mass Effect Trilogy May be Remastered for PS4 and Xbox One. BioWare is discussing the possibility of remastering the Mass Effect Trilogy for PS4 and Xbox One. The news comes from the general manager of the developer's Edmonton and Montreal studios Aaryn Flynn, who revealed on Twitter that the topic had been brought up internally though nothing solid has been decided. While a remastered re-release of the original Trilogy could still happen, it's unclear how long it would take to create, seeing as most of the studio is presumably hard at work on the upcoming next installment in the franchise. BIOWARE general manager Aaryn Flynn has hinted a new Mass Effect remastered trilogy is being planned for the PS4 and Xbox One. The Mass Effect series could be heading to the Xbox One and PS4. Flynn was gathering suggestions for a possible upgraded next-gen instalment of the series on NeoGAF, asking fans for their input on what they would like to see included. Writing on the forums, the Bioware exec explained: "The thing I'd love to hear from people is what you'd like to have in such an experience. For me (personal opinion, and based on what people have told me many times before): 1080p 60 fps High res textures, especially on ME1 Some shader improvements commensurate with newer GPUs All the DLC "Seamless experience" - the adventures flow into each other without having to go back to save import, menu screens, etc. Bear in mind this is a "wish list" at this point.
