Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved made a huge splash on Windows PC when it hit Steam Early Access this past June. It’s a hardcore, kill-or-be-killed, persistent-world survival-shooter that challenges you to tame the wild – literally, tame giant dinosaurs – in order to make your way in its harsh, deadly world. And we’re excited to announce that on December 16, ARK is headed to Xbox One’s Game Preview program. Studio Wildcard co-founder Jesse Rapczak is rather excited about ARK ’s journey to Xbox One – and what it means for the game and its fans. “You’d be hard-pressed to find another game anywhere that has a huge and persistent open world, tens of thousands of unique A.I. characters, 70+ players per server, and exciting lore and endgame content – as well as single-player, non-dedicated and dedicated server modes,” said Rapczak. And now it’s coming to the generation’s greatest console platform – with plenty of Xbox-exclusive Founder’s content in tow, including a bionic “Tek” T-Rex skin, ARK Founder’s Hat skin, and ARK Founder’s Trophy. For Rapczak, the Xbox platform presented a huge opportunity to expand ARK ’s player base in a meaningful and unique way. “Xbox Live provides a fair, secure, and robust multiplayer experience that minimizes cheating and reduces the barriers to playing with your friends,” Rapczak told us. “You can also host your own 50+ player ARK server on a second Xbox One – which is something that would normally require an expensive PC server and a lot of management headaches. The gamepad control scheme is also much improved over the PC version. ARK on Xbox One will be the smoothest gameplay experience for the majority of gamers… especially for the price!” And while ARK is the kind of game where you’ll spend your first few hours generally trying not to get eaten, it presents a pretty varied experience, for lots of different player types. As you progress in ARK ’s dinosaur-eat-man world, you’ll (eventually) reach the limits of human biomechanics – and you’ll need to employ some dinosaurs and other creatures to help you advance and keep you safe. Thousands of wild animals (each with unique talents, once tamed) are out there, interacting with each other and creating emergent experiences in the wild. For more pacifist players, farming is an option: You can grow your food with a variety of seeds, crop plots, and irrigation systems, and live a completely vegetarian lifestyle. One of the game’s most interesting features is its persistent world, which (much like the real thing) will keep right on going regardless of how advanced your survivor may or may not be. “When you respawn you can choose to continue advancing your current survivor, or scrap it and start a new one,” says Rapczak. “Either way the world goes on whether you are there or not!” Best of all – you’ll be able to get your hands on it soon. The dinosaur-hunting open-world survival epic ARK: Survival Evolved has gotten off to a fast start. For many of its 2.4 million Early Access customers on PC, it is the dinosaur game they've been wanting their whole lives (see our epic two-hour first-time playthrough below). ARK was also announced for consoles (console and PC final versions are due out in June 2016), but on Xbox One it's getting the Early Access treatment very soon thanks to the Xbox Game Preview program announced at E3 earlier this year. The XGP edition of the game will be available on December 16 for $34.99. We spoke with Jess Rapczak, co-founder and co-creative director at Studio Wildcard, about ARK on Xbox One. "Our goal is to bring all this chaotic and creative spontaneous fun – the tribe building, dino-breeding, dino-combat, the weapons-, armor-, food-, and recipe-crafting, and more – to Xbox One fans with no compromises," he told us when we asked if we should expect any differences from the PC version. "Through all of this, we hope to help Microsoft build out Xbox Game Preview while giving Xbox One gamers something totally new and different than the standard updated version of old franchises. Gamers want new experiences on their consoles, and we feel that ARK, which is one of the few dinosaur games on the market, and one of the only, if not the only true multiplayer survival games on console, will bring that fresh gaming experience that helps define this generation." And what content will the initial XGP version of the game launch with? "Everything that’s in the PC version right now is on Xbox," Rapczak said. "ARK has been in Early Access development for six months, and the amount of content has easily tripled in that time while the game systems have become much more mature. XGP gamers are getting the benefit of all that work with a game that is much closer to launch than the one that hit Steam back in June." Though Rapczak admits the team likely "won't be putting out updates at the insane pace of the PC version," noting the PC edition's 224 iterations since June, he does say that, "we do plan to keep content parity between the XGP and PC versions of the game. That means you can expect to see updates no further than two weeks apart full of new content, features and general improvements across the board. We've gotten a lot of feedback from the PC community that we're doing Early Access better than they've ever seen before, and we want to continue that trend with Xbox Game Preview." Refreshingly, Rapczak also notes that those who purchase the $34.99 Xbox Game Preview version will not have to re-purchase the game – which will carry a higher price tag – when the final release happens in June. They'll just update their build and have the full game at the lower price. ARK Admin console commands on Xbox One. ARK Admin console commands on Xbox One. Since the latest patch (v733) it is also possible to use the PC admin commands on Xbox One! This makes it possible for you to spawn in dinosaurs, items, fly around the map and much more. We will help you with this new addition, by giving you some valuable resources and an explanation on how you can use everything in your single player games and servers. How to enable Admin console commands on Xbox One? For the commands to work, you’ll need to go to the pause screen. There you should be able to find an option to input the cheats at the top of your screen. In case you don’t see this option, make sure that you have admin access and re-logged in to the server after giving yourself access. For the people that end up with their screen cluttered in cheat texts (e.g. keyboard shortcuts to spawn specific items), you might want to run the command ‘ setCheatPlayer false ‘ (without the quotes). Which cheats / console commands can I use? Supposedly every cheat that is available on PC can be used in the Xbox version. To find out the exact commands, you can use the following lists: Where can I use cheats? Currently you should be able to use cheats in your single player game and on dedicated servers. Non-dedicated servers are not fully supported, but we got varied reports on this. It seems you won’t be able to make other people admin at this moment, making it only for yourself possible to use the commands . It should be possible to make other people on your non-dedicated server admin, by following the steps that are listed under ‘How do I make other people admin on a non-dedicated server?’ How do I make other people admin on a non-dedicated server? First host ARK on your Xbox as a dedicated server (This way you will get access to the dedicated server window where you can promote players to admins). Have your friends join your dedicated server (just joining should be enough for them to show up in your player list, so no need to create a character) Add them to the admin list. Have them leave the dedicated server and return to the main menu. Leave the dedicated server yourself, head over to the main menu and start your non-dedicated server now. Have them rejoin your non-dedicated server and they should now be an admin on there too! Keep in mind that the players you have promoted admin will need to use ‘ AdminCheat ‘ (without the quotes) in front of every command for them to work. Help, the commands do not work on my Xbox one! If you cannot get the commands to work, but you are able to input them on your pause screen, you might want to try the following things to solve the problem: Use ‘adminCheat’ (without the quotes) in front of you commands and see if that makes a difference. Then you can generate the command with the companion app, copy it to your clipboard and use the smartglass app to get it in the game. The cementing paste is the code for dinosaur gate. It seems that Wildcard removed one of the items from the ID list, which shifted the others. I’m looking into the one that was removed and whether it is a permanent change or not. The Giganotosaurus saddle code should be correct so possible you’ve made a small error when typing it over. It should destroy every wild dino on the map, however it may look like this isn’t the case as they respawn immediately after. So if you move into a new area, it will already have respawned dinos. Does he have to.do something else besides that. Have you tried other cheats to see if they work? They can use the spawning of items. Hm, if those work then the other commands should also work.. Make sure to put adminCheat in front of them though and if there are only a few that don’t work as expected, it could be due to xbox being a little buggy with the commands sometimes. Try the doTame command, that one should give you the dossier. Otherwise spawn in a level 1 of a creature and use super test meat to immediately tame it (or spawn in the preferred kibble anr use that) how do i change my weather. So it might work for you sometimes while it won’t work for others. So i have tried quite a few and the only ones that i cant seem to get to work are the blueprint commands for the items. i tried it with sarco kibble and quetz kibble. sarco has an item num so it lets me use that but the quetz (which is what i was wanting) doesnt so i cant use that option, any suggestions, ir anyone else having the same problem? The spawn commands for item with and without IDs is a bit different. So you cannot simply change the item id into a blueprint path, as that will not work. You don’t need admin logging enabled, it just enables the box that tells you which commands have been put in. It actually becomes an eyesore after a while because the autohide breaks and there’s this big yellow box blocking part of the screen. My forced tamed birds won’t move what 2 do. It sounds like you’ve adjusted some of the sliders when you started playing again, as cheats do not survive a server / single player restart (even when you had godmode on, you’ll need to enable it again). When the xbox app is connected to your xbox and you are playing ark, you should be able to press on an input field and have it show up on your phone (so you can paste the command you copied earlier). There should be a “controller mode” in the app that you might need to turn on for this to work properly. On Xbox one there is a filter on text input to stop certain words (like swearing), but also some normal combinations are blocked. If you cannot get that to spawn correctly, then the filter probably blocks part of the command. Back in May, Jurassic World stomped its way to the top of the box office, having raked in over $1.5 billion at the global box office so far. JW ‘s incredible success no doubt contributed to the success of Ark: Survival Evolved , with Studio Wildcard’s dinosaur survival sim being released on Steam (via Early Access) just a few days later. Ark: Survival Evolved contains all of the usual survival sim gameplay, with players able to hunt for and grow their own food, as well as craft items and use their gathered resources to build shelters. But the real draw of Ark: Survival Evolved is that it includes a variety of dinosaurs, from great, hulking behemoths, to much smaller beasts no bigger than the player character. While Ark: Survival Evolved players can take on these dinosaurs, working with other players in the game to take down the bigger monsters, players can also train and even ride the dinos. They just knock the dinosaur unconscious, nurse it back to health with some grub and then the player can ride it around the game – or even fly it about if they train up a pterodactyl. So with all of that, it’s unsurprising that the game has garnered mostly positive reviews on Steam and why it sold over one million copies in under a month. Studio Wildcard will be looking forward to more positive reviews when Ark: Survival Evolved is also released on Xbox One. During the company’s Gamescom 2015 press conference, Microsoft revealed that the game would be coming to the Xbox One Preview Program in ‘Winter’ (early 2016). And although the Preview Program is invite only (and therefore not all Xbox One players will be able to play the game when it lands on the platform), it does mean that for a few months Ark: Survival Evolved will be an Xbox One console-exclusive as the dinosaur sim is also scheduled for a full release on PS4 in June 2016.
