Microsoft Continues to Tease Age of Empires for Xbox One. Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra recently teased popular RTS Age of Empires for Xbox One via his official Twitter feed. The tweet also showed statue of an elephant – the animal is a key unit in AoE games. You can find the said tweet attached after the break. Age of Empires for Xbox One. This is obviously not the first time Microsoft has teased the immensely popular RTS game. Earlier this year, someone asked Microsoft’s Bill Gates about a new Age of Empires game during a Reddit AMA session. And Gates being his usual-self replied that he would look into the matter: I will look into this. How many empires do you need? Apart from this, it goes without saying that Microsoft has been showing interest in the franchise for quite some time now. The company opened a new studio in Redmond specifically for real-time strategy genre. Age of Empires 3 was released back in 2005 so it has been more than 10 years since fans have been wanting a new AOE game. The company recently cancelled Fable Legends because the game did not have a huge fan following. Hopefully, this will not be the case with AOE. If this AOE for Xbox One tease indeed means anything concrete, I would love Microsoft to throw keyboard/mouse support in as well. What about you? O jogo na versão desktop ultimamente anda travando o mouse e todo o sistema operacional em algumas batalhas por favor arrumem esse bug maldito. Decent game on PC. I am not a fan of games that constantly harp you and encourage you to spend real money. Everytime I load the game, it has to tell me about the latest Microsoft sale to buy Gold. Gold is the in game currency to speed up things dramatically. However, as a free player and having to wait is not a bad thing. It starts off fast as first, but once you get going, everything takes longer to build or train troops, unless of course you spend Gold. Aside from all of that, it is a decent game. I like how you can build different castle structures and see different people try to destroy it. I know there are other games out there like this, but being Age of Empires, I prefer this style. It has depth and can be a long term game to played off and on. If you are a fan of Rts games or AoE at all, it's definitely worth checking out. 100 out of 116 people found this helpful. Really smooth on 512 Mb devices :). Change the tile, make it beautiful. Also don't make the back button close the game! Make the back button put the user in one menu level higher till they reach the main empire screen. From there ask for confirmation to exit. Also make the loading screen the screen with the sparks on the blue background, instead of the screen with the circling swords. The flying sparks screen looks so much better Edit: Also please improve load times. 638 out of 786 people found this helpful. Absolutely Shocking. Being an Age fan since the 2nd game and having poured hours into every game that came out I was quite skeptical of this game. It takes a very different turn from the strategy of other Age games but deserves a good chance. Because I gave it one I found some of the same old Age of Empires feel and desire to keep conquering. I think its a game definitely worth playing and is something I hope will be given new content as time goes by. But, with out further going on I want to say this game is truly fun and if I might say so myself quite awesome. Give it a chance there's nothing to lose! :D P.S. Long Live Age of Empires! 511 out of 627 people found this helpful. Be Smart with In Game Purchases. Learn how the economy in this game works before burning your money. Real world cash is good for gold, then for pennants. Don't waste money on resources or speeding up construction. Me and my three boys play this game, and have lots of fun raiding and watching how others raid. 38 out of 42 people found this helpful. Frustration. I was hoping for so much more. The inability of your army to help defend your castle and the extremely long and costly build time makes this game barely better than building a house of cards for someone else to knock over. At this point the only reason I continue playing is after investing all this time I view it more as a sim city game and I'm curious to find out what my final build will look like in however many decades it might take to finish. Adding the ability for your army to help defend your castle and allowing user input when on-line in defending your castle would go a long way to improving gameplay. UPDATE: Game is Broken. Don't waste your time until they balance the characters and weapons. Nothing says unbalanced more than Hero Charles Martel. He has the power to make every defense you have target him. his health is 22,500 3X more than most buildings. Combine him with multiply fast moving battering rams and catapults and your defense will target him even as they are destroyed. 38 out of 42 people found this helpful. After more than 12 years in hibernation, the Age of Empires series is back for its fourth outing. In August, publisher Microsoft Studios announced that Age of Empires 4 was alive and kicking, and that it was being developed by Relic Entertainment, the team behind Homeworld and Company of Heroes (which is a hell of a lot of pedigree). [ Update: Though we don't have any more information on Age of Empires 4's release date just yet, we do now know that the 4K definitive edition of the original will be released on February 20 , following a four month delay.] This article will tell you everything you need to know about Age of Empires 4, and we’ll update it when new information comes to light, so make sure you check back regularly. Cut to the chase. What is it? The latest installment to the historical real-time strategy series Age of Empires. When can I play it? There's no release window just yet but it'll be late 2018 at the earliest What can I play it on? Windows 10 PC is the only confirmed platform. What is Age of Empires 4? Age of Empires 4 is the latest installment to the historical real-time strategy series Age of Empires, which began life way back in 1997. Follow-ups to the original were released in 1999 and 2005, and there’s been a couple of spin-offs during that period, including two Nintendo DS titles and the popular Age of Mythology, which took inspiration from myths and legends rather than history. Aside from those DS games, the series is only on PC. Age of Empires 4 is the first game in the series developed by Relic Entertainment – all the other Age of Empires games have been made by Ensemble Studios, which folded in 2009. Relic says it wants to “fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community”. Age of Empires 4: release date. Unfortunately, no release date has been announced for Age of Empires 4 – not even a rough one. It could be a way off though, because all we’ve seen of the game is a trailer filled with concept art, which suggests development is in its early stages. If we were betting on it, we’d say it won’t be until late next year at the earliest. What platforms will Age of Empires 4 release on? So far, all we know is that it’s coming to Windows 10 PC – so bad luck if you’re running an older version (although this could be a good excuse to upgrade). However, with Microsoft Studios as the publisher the door is open for a release on Xbox One, too, although there’s been no word on that front. For the same reason, it’s unlikely to come to other consoles, such as the PS4 or the Nintendo Switch. Age of Empires 4: trailers. The announcement of the game was marked with a trailer – and it’s still the only one we’ve seen to date. It’s exclusively concept art for the game, depicting large scale battles between various groups. Check it out below: Age of Empires 4: gameplay features. Previous Age of Empires games have focused on one period of history: Age of Empires 3 chronicled the European colonization of the Americas, for example. However, judging by the trailer above, Age of Empires 4 could paint with a broader historical picture, with lots of empires from across time returning from previous games in the series. In the trailer, you can glimpse Native Americans, British Redcoats, Romans and Japanese samurai. It’s possible that this could just be demonstrative of the art style and themes, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t end up featuring in the final game in some capacity. That said, it’s unlikely to break history by pitting armies from two eras against each other in the campaign, so expect a story that plays out over an extended timeline. And then perhaps the Romans could clash with the Redcoats in online multiplayer. In terms of actual gameplay, we wouldn’t expect it to deviate too far from the formula that fans of the series know and love – it would be odd for the developer not to mine that ore of support. So, there will be the usual 4X fare (explore, expand, exploit and exterminate). However, the last Age of Empires game was more than 10 years ago, so we’re expecting some changes in terms of UI and mechanics. Age of Empires 4: what we want to see. The Age of Empires games have always had decent UIs – most of the stuff you need is two or at most three clicks away and, generally, if you hover over a button you can find out what it does. But going back to it now, it looks a bit old fashioned, with a large box covering most of the bottom section of the screen, and can be overwhelming at first glance. If the series is going to attract new players (and the more the merrier) then the UI needs to be sleek and inviting. Age of Empires Online, another spin-off, might perhaps be a good guide: that game had much less on screen at any one time, allowing you to see more of the battlefield. Smaller, contextual menus that only appear when you click on certain elements would work well. The Age of Empires games do boast military tactics, and the positioning and stances of your units can turn a battle. But largely, fights are won by the biggest army, and they are over quickly. We’d like to see tactics play a bigger role in battles, and for it to be easier to make small adjustments to groups of units so they do exactly what you want. There’s hope here: Relic has a lot of pedigree in this field. Imagine Age of Empires with Company of Heroes-style unit movement when you got close to an enemy’s base. That’s not what Relic will be shooting for (this is about clashes of large armies rather than small strike forces, after all), but we’re confident it will be more finessed than anything else we’ve seen from the series so far. Age of Empires revels in its smaller scale. You start with a town hall and build out from there, never really expanding beyond a single settlement. Rise of Nations, also published by Microsoft, could be a good yard stick for how the game should expand; in that game you could build multiple cities and combine them into large territories. If you apply that to Age of Empires then you get multiple hubs of production: one town could focus on food production, and transport the finished product to another nearby town, which is itself churning out military units. Planning out the structure of your empire, rather than just a single city, would add another layer to the game. Related news. Tech deals, prizes and latest news. Remember we are talking about a proper strategy game here, not a washed down Halo Wars console strategy attempt. Well, yeah, that's exactly what the article is talking about. Then there is a slim chance, but still, consoles are more for couch gaming. How would I sit close enough to a TV in order to micro my units? You just need a desktop computer. Then there is a slim chance, but still, consoles are more for couch gaming. How would I sit close enough to a TV in order to micro my units? You just need a desktop computer. Have you never hooked your pc up to your TV and played an RTS on full volume on the big screen? It is awesome my friend. Maybe not the most competitive set-up but still very awesome. I haven't, the only one I would do that with, I think, would be Homeworld Remastered, because that one is more about the graphics. But otherwise, you are kinda missing the point of strategy games, they are about the tiny details, you need to concentrate closely in order to outsmart opponents on a strategic/tactical level. I just can't play strategy games only in a very casual way while admiring other things that haven't got that much importance (for an RTS or TBS), such as graphics. Well, another competitive genre that is very successful is First Person Shooter (FPS), which even though you can play more competitively on a PC because of mouse accuracy, it is still a mainstay of console gaming. Anyway, the point is that the exclusivity of AoE to win10 at this point limited to a certain group of PC gamers and I think that adding in Xbox compatibility for console gamer will open up the genre to a whole group of people who do not traditionally PC game, which I think is good for the brand and the game. Also, who says you have to sit 15 feet away on your couch? If you plan on mouse-and-keyboard gaming on your TV you might as well buy a little desk at walmart and sit right in front of your TV. In fact, I know a lot of people that use small TVs as their pc monitors, so this would be using your Xbox as a pc. Everyone wins. But not any FPS, only arcade ones. You can't have for example CS:GO on consoles because 1 single pixel can make a difference when you shoot, as opposed to arcade console shooters which come with a slight auto-aim incorporated even in multiplayer due to playing with a gamepad. It's the same for strategy games, it's way too much micro for a gamepad. If they just put it for Xbox because it now has mouse and keyboard support, sure, whatever. But if that means taking away time to develop it for the consoles (where btw very few people would play it so that would be a waste of investment), when instead they should focus more on the PC version, my answer is a big no. And Win10 exclusivity, yes, that is a very bad decision for us players unfortunately. Of course it would be terrible on a gamepad. did you ever play Starcraft for N64? It was pretty funny. But because it would be a mouse-and-keyboard only game the time put into it would be very minimal, basically just a quick port. You would be surprised how many people come on the forum asking for the game on Xbox because they don't game on PC. and until now we just told them that it wasn't going to happen, but this article certainly makes it seem like a possibility. I actually don't own any console but I am for anything that promotes AoE across as many systems as possible. Yeah, as long as they don't dumb it down, they can port it to whatever platform they want as far as it concerns me. I'm still pretty sure they won't do it though, because you heard them talk at Gamescom about how Age of Empires is a representative title for PC Gaming and they want to make use again of this reputation. My guess with all these (AOE4, remakes for AOE 1, 2 and 3) is that they want to push that Windows Store for the PC to compete with the likes of Steam. They want the market back in PC Gaming too and AOE is indeed a brand for PC Gaming, it's their only chance. I myself couldn't care less about their business plans if it wasn't for the fact they are forcing me to buy Win 10 and make use of another app when Steam community is already established, as long as the AOE games they are about to deliver are of very good quality. And I don't think they will be able to compete with Steam on the PC market. AOE is powerful as a brand, but not that powerful. Time will certainly tell @IamDalv. It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me that they revive AoE and make an announcement about keyboard and mouse support for Xbox One though. The Steam debate is for another thread (I am personally in favor of Steam having more competitors because they don't always release top-notch products). And yes, we want a quality experience! I have confidence in the people working at FE and Relic. P.S. I want to express my remorse to whoever felt 'abused' by my post about keyboard support for xbox one. I wish this person a speedy emotional recovery from the trauma I have caused him or her. So many years of losing to my console-playing friends in fps games. NOW IT WILL END! Porting AOE DE to Xbox One will be super-easy considering it's a DX12 game and XBONE already runs on a PC architecture. I hope they do it! If nothing else, it brings in lots of new players. Back on topic, Adam Isgreen said this in the Venture Beat article published on June 20th: Personally, I think Age of Empires is strong enough to stand up wherever you put it. It’s an amazing franchise with a storied history. But again, this is a PC game. At Microsoft we really wanted PC games—we want to treat PC games like first-class citizens. That means not only are you going to see—let’s say we do a play anywhere game, right? We have a PC version and a console version. The PC version is going to have features the console version won’t have, because we want to make sure that PC gamers appreciate. We want to give them things they want. Then you get games like Age of Empires. It’s a PC game. We’re going to put it on PC and treat it right. That’s really important to us. Age, moving forward — that’s a statement. We’re going to be on PC, and we’ll be here with games people want to play on PC. You look at how many people play DOTA2/Starcraft 2 and it's surprising that it's taken MS so long to realise they have a market here to tap which they already have a valuable IP and a foothold in. There is money in Rts so it's also amazing that EA haven't done anything with C&C. I don't think we in the west appreciate how big AOE1 is still in the east, it's just the player base is fractured over multiple clients. In the west we have heard of Game Ranger and Voobly but there was a far eastern client that I stumbled on which appeared to have thousands of players in lobbies - unfortunately I don't speak Chinese! Well, as Xbox One (X) are based on Windows 10, bringing AoE DE to Xbox One X wouldn't be against the claim of AoE DE being for Win10 only. As stated there won't be general support for keyboard/mouse but it always depends on the game devs to release a game that supports it. So, bringing AoE DE to Windows 10 only looks a lot smarter now regarding the critics who'd love to see it on outdated OSs like Win7, too. Article is from Windows Central: "First Xbox games with keyboard and mouse gameplay support are coming soon" Article is from Windows Central: "First Xbox games with keyboard and mouse gameplay support are coming soon" Article is from Windows Central: "First Xbox games with keyboard and mouse gameplay support are coming soon" Article is from Windows Central: "First Xbox games with keyboard and mouse gameplay support are coming soon" I have played and loved AoE for years. Since the first one. But as PC graphics have gotten better and well I haven’t been able to upgrade so I can run a game as great as AoE. I am a console gamer and of course Xbox. It’s missing a good RTS game. They are some of my favorite games! And I’ve seen great ones done on Xbox 360 such as Battle for middle Earth. But since Xbox is allowing mouse and keyboard I would be even more excited to play a AoE game on my Xbox! This is something I would love and I have many friends on Xbox that would agree and play the hell out of. Given the mouse and keyboard news it would seem like a logical port, provided there isn't some sort of major incompatibility between the engine design on aoe1 and the way the xbox1 runs its games (and that seems unlikely as aoe1 has proven pretty hardware flexible over the pas two decades). The game should not run into any system limitations on the console, and while they are using it as a bit of a "system seller" for the Windows store I don't think they'd see a lot of harm in supporting their other own platform. It would actually be pretty awesome if they made it cross-platform. Xbox One and PC players! Howdy, Stranger! It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
