PS4 Outsells Xbox One By 89%, EA Executive Reveals Sales Figures. PlayStation 4 is reportedly heavily trouncing Xbox One in sales after an Electronics Arts (EA) executive unwittingly revealed respective sales figures in a recent quarterly earnings call with the game developer's investors. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen reported the estimated console purchases for 2015. "Our estimate is 55 million units out there which has exceeded virtually everyone's forecast for the year and now almost 50 percent higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very, very positive," Jorgensen was quoted as saying in a Eurogamer report. "All the gameplay we're seeing and the engagement and things like Ultimate Team we're seeing is positive." Although that piece of information did not reference Xbox One's sales figure, it served as the missing link to determine the sales of the console since Microsoft maintains the policy of never releasing its sales data. Several weeks ago, Sony declared that the PS4 console sold a total of 36 million as of Jan. 3, as HNGN previously reported. If this figure is deducted to the overall console sales as revealed by Jorgensen, Xbox is left with a measly 19 million install base. This means that PS4 is outselling the Xbox One by around 89 percent. While the comparative data seems troublesome for Microsoft, the company was reportedly pleased with Xbox One's sales performance. The reason for this is that the latest platform is said to be performing better in the market than its predecessor at this point in its life, according to iDigital Times. Xbox One X Reportedly Outsells PS4 Pro, Matches Switch in UK Debut Week; Call of Duty Tops Software. No one stops the Call of Duty: WWII train in the United Kingdom, while the Xbox One X reportedly enjoyed a solid debut in Her Majesty's lands. Today is Monday, so it’s time for some sales data from the land of Her Majesty, the United Kingdom. According to GFK Chart-Track, Call of Duty: WWII had an impressive week, retaining the top of the sales chart for the second week since its release. “Its second week figure tops ‘Fifa 18s’ second week, making it the highest selling second week for a title of not only this year, but 2016 as well. ‘Fifa 18’ does climb one position into No2 this week (+0%), pushing Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed Origins’ in the opposite direction down to No3 (-38%). EA’s new release ‘Need for Speed Payback’ debuts in at No4, one place below what its predecessor ‘Need for Speed’ did back in 2015. Sega have 2 new releases in the top 10 this week with ‘Sonic Forces’ debuting in at No5 and ‘Football Manager 2018’ in at No10. Elsewhere in the top 40 we have 2 more new releases in Microsoft’s ‘Super Lucky’s Tale’ in at No23 and EA’s ‘The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs’ at No27.” If you’d like more details, you can also check out the full top-forty chart at the bottom of the post. Interestingly, GamesIndustry also reports that according to data shared with the outlet by retailers, the Xbox One X debuted with over 80,000 units sold in its first week on the shelves. This is well above the PS4 Pro, that sold roughly 50,000 units in its debut week last year (and took four weeks to reach 80,000), and matches the first week of the Switch. Of course, it remains to be seen how launch shortages affected the numbers of each console, but this is certainly a rather flattering number for the Xbox One X, considering the higher price point compared to its rivals. Do keep in mind, though, that we don’t know the specifics on how the numbers were aggregated by the outlet, so we should take this with the usual grain of salt. If the number is correct, the Xbox One X’s performance, especially compared to the PS4 Pro, could be pinpointed on the fact that Microsoft made fewer compromises with the power-to-price ratio, giving the console a better-defined position in the market. Of course, we’ll have to see performance worldwide and in the long run before we pass a more educated judgment. PS4 outsells Xbox One in April for fourth consecutive month. Sony’s PS4 wins the race for the fourth month in a row, but consumers still prefer Microsoft’s Xbox One title Titanfall. Microsoft recently decided to release a kinectless Xbox One this week for $399, the same price as the Sony PS4. It turns out that Microsoft may have made another wise decision to appease its customer base. Tech trend analyst firm NPD has put together some game console stats for the month of April 2014. When looking at brick-and-mortar retail store sales, Sony’s PS4 dominated the game console landscape for the fourth consecutive month, says NPD. Microsoft says that it has “the fastest-selling game console,” selling 110,000 Xbox One units last month, but Sony claims that it has the highest-selling game console with over 7 million units purchased by gamers last month. Microsoft has been quick to quote that it’s shipped over 5 million units, but, as in mobile, units shipped doesn’t equate to units purchased. Still, the fact that only retail store purchases are counted does nothing to erase what could be a neck-in-neck competition for gamers’ hearts and wallets. It seems as if Sony’s E3 presentation still lingers in the minds of many individuals. Consumers chose the more inexpensive device then, and they are still doing so now. Microsoft’s Xbox One took second place for April 2014 sales, and both the PS4 and Xbox One combined for a total of $192.8 million, up from $109.5 million a year ago. Hardware sales increased by 76 percent, leading many analysts to conclude that gamers want the latest and greatest from both Sony and Microsoft. Gamers also spent $580.3 million combined on games, hardware, and accessories, an increase from the $495.3 million gamers spent on the same last year. While gamers spent 10% less on physical games over the last year, sales have increased due to accessories and hardware, said NPD analyst Liam Callahan. As for the games themselves, Microsoft’s exclusive Titanfall won the show – reigning as the top purchased game for Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. Call of Duty and NBA 2K14 came in second and third, respectively, and both of these titles are available on the PS4 and Xbox One. The dichotomy between the top-selling console and the top-selling game shows that, while Microsoft’s Xbox One may not be winning the price race, it is winning in terms of game graphics and experience. In other words, gamers are torn in their loyalty toward the PS4 and Xbox One: on one hand, they respect Sony for PS4 affordability, but, if they were to choose based on the game experience, the Xbox One wins – hands-down. And this leaves us clueless as to where to place the kinectless Xbox One. What is considered to be an immersive experience for the Xbox One could possibly be affected by Microsoft’s decision to ship Xbox Ones without Microsoft’s new Kinect motion accessory. Only time will tell whether or not Microsoft’s “Xbone” can make a comeback in retail stores. PS4 outsells Xbox One in April. Following Microsoft's announcement of a cheaper, Kinect-less Xbox One, NPD Group reports that Sony's PlayStation 4 yet again claimed the hardware crown. Sony's PlayStation 4 outsold Microsoft's Xbox One for the fourth month in a row, according to the NPD Group's April sales report released Thursday. "Hardware experienced a solid 76 percent growth over April 2013 driven by Console Hardware sales which increased by 120 percent in April 2014 over last year," Liam Callahan, a game industry analyst with NPD, said. "Life to date, sales of PS4 and Xbox One hardware have more than doubled the combined sales of PS3 and 360 hardware through their first six months of sales." Hardware jumped to $192.6 million from $109.6 million last year. Despite the strong hardware push, software sales were down 10 percent year over year to $240.8 million from $267.8 million, with Callahan attributing the drop to a poor showing in April launch titles compared with last year's spring lineup. Last month, Sony announced that it had sold to consumers 7 million consoles , while Microsoft announced that it had shipped to retailers 5 million units , putting a considerable and persistent gap between the two devices. Microsoft revealed that it sold 110,000 Xbox One units and 76,000 Xbox 360 units last month. But updated lifetime hardware sales figures were not released by either company. However, Microsoft said that the Xbox One has sold 76 percent more units than its predecessor in its first six months on sale, meaning lifetime Xbox One sales may be as high as 5.6 million units considering the Xbox 360 had sold 3.2 million units by the end of Microsoft's second quarter in 2006. The sales news comes off the heels of an energized effort from Microsoft to tilt the scales in its favor. The Xbox maker on Tuesday announced that it would unbundle the Kinect motion sensor and sell its console stand alone for $399 , putting its price in parity with that of Sony's offering. In NPD's report, Microsoft may find some validation for its controversial decision -- the company long defended the Kinect's role as central to the Xbox One experience before reversing that stance -- seeing yet again that its next-gen offering is having trouble keeping pace with its primary competitor. Microsoft did claim the majority of software sales in April, holding eight out of the 10 slots in the top game sales chart and selling 2.6 million units between the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Microsoft also revealed that its cumulatively sold more games for the Xbox One than any other eight-generation console. Share your voice. Be respectful, keep it clean and stay on topic. Xbox One S helped Microsoft outsell the PS4 in August. The Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 in August, thanks to a boost from Microsoft's latest console, the Xbox One S. A 2TB model of the Xbox One S hit shelves on August 2nd for $400 and sales of the new console are bundled under the broader "Xbox One" banner. The Xbox One S supports HDR, 4K gaming, streaming and Blu-ray, and it's 40 percent smaller than the launch model. This is the second month in a row that the Xbox One has outsold the PS4. Microsoft didn't include sales figures in today's announcement, though it did take the opportunity to poke fun at Sony. The PlayStation 4 Pro is Sony's version of a 4K console, though we discovered yesterday that it doesn't have an Ultra HD Blu-ray player. This is odd coming from the company that ushered in the gaming console Blu-ray player with the PS3. With that in mind, Xbox Marketing CVP Mike Nichols offered the following in today's statement about Xbox One S sales (emphasis added): "Thanks to our fans and their excitement for new Xbox One games and the recently launched Xbox One S, which is the only console available this holiday with built-in UHD 4K Blu-ray, 4K video streaming and HDR for video and gaming , Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S. in August, according to NPD Group." Sick burn, Nichols. The 1TB and 500GB versions of the Xbox One S hit the market in late August; the 1TB model is $350 and the 500GB edition is $300. And then there's Project Scorpio, the VR-ready 4K behemoth that Microsoft plans to drop in late 2017. Sony is also iterating on the current console generation, with plans to release the PS4 Pro on November 10th and a slimmer version of the PS4 on September 15th. Nintendo's hybrid console has now been the top-selling console in the US for four of six months since launch. Last updated by Eddie Makuch on September 14, 2017 at 8:39PM. You are now subscribed. The NPD Group today released its monthly report for August 2017 sales in the United States, and on the hardware front, the Nintendo Switch took the cake. Nintendo's hybrid console was the best-selling system in the US during the month. The Switch has been the best-selling system in four of the six months since launch in March, only beaten by the PlayStation 4 in May and June. On a year-to-date basis, the PS4 remains the best-selling console in the US, according to NPD data. The group does not release specific sales numbers, so we don't know how substantial Nintendo's margin of victory this month. Overall, hardware spending in the US for August 2017 dropped 6 percent, falling to $168 million. There were "declines" in sales of the Xbox One and old-generation consoles during the month, which the NPD Group noted offset the gains that the Switch helped drive. "Year to date, hardware spending has grown 17 percent versus 2016 to $1.7 billion," the NPD Group said. "Consumer spending on Nintendo Switch and Plug N Play devices such as the NES Classic are providing growth." Nintendo Switch Outsells PS4, Xbox One In US July Sales. The PS4 remains the best-selling console for the full year, however. Last updated by Eddie Makuch on August 17, 2017 at 3:49PM. You are now subscribed. The NPD Group today put out its report for July 2017, showing that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of the month in the US. Its success was fuelled in part by new units coming into retail channels and the launch of Splatoon 2, which was July's best-selling game, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said. On a year-to-date basis, however, Sony's PlayStation 4 remains the best-selling console. For July 2017, hardware sales in the US came to $182 million, rising 29 percent when compared to July 2016. Piscatella said Switch and PS4 sales "accounted for most of the increase." Not a word was said about Xbox One hardware in the NPD's report. On a year-to-date basis, hardware sales in the US came to $1.6 billion, up 20 percent. Again, Piscatella said the Switch was the "primary" driver of the growth. The NPD's report also covers Accessories and Gamecards, a category that grew 9 percent year-over-year to $129 million. "Accessories for the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft's Xbox One drove spending growth. Gamepads were the top-selling accessory types for both platforms," Piscatella said. Ps4 outsells xbox one

Nintendo’s incredible rebound year got even better this week as The NPD Group on Thursday released its sales report for the month of August, revealing that the Switch once again outsold the PS4 and Xbox One in the US to take the top spot in console sales. This marks the fourth time in the past six months that the Switch has earned the title, with the PS4 beating out the Switch in May and June. While the Switch has become the console to beat ever since it launched in March, NPD says that the PS4 is still the best-selling console of 2017 so far. The group doesn’t release specific numbers, so we don’t know how close the two consoles are, but it appears Sony’s two month head start has given it the cushion it needs to maintain its lead. It will be fascinating to see if Sony can stay on top throughout the holiday season, though if Nintendo can’t produce enough Switch consoles to meet demand, it won’t be much of a competition. While hardware spending year-to-year dropped 6% to $168 million in August, total hardware sales for 2017 are actually up 17% to $1.7 billion, due in large part to Nintendo’s resurgence. In fact, with the holiday season and the launch of the SNES Classic Edition fast approaching, 2017 could end up being a massive year for hardware sales, despite the fact that Sony and Microsoft are four years into their console cycles. Some other interesting tidbits from the August report: Nintendo has three games in the top 10 for software sales, accessory sales are up 10% and Grand Theft Auto V is somehow the second best-selling game of the month.
