(Special Tactics and Rescue Service) team member Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine who have been sent into the city to find the missing Bravo team. When the team is suddenly attacked by a ferocious group of mutated dogs, desperate for an escape they take shelter in the Mansion, but will they ever get out alive again? Players will need to be brave as they adventure through the dark, enclosed spaces searching out the horrors that await them. With limited ammo and survival items available gamers will need to keep their wits about them to survive the various traps and puzzles that greet them at every stage. Launching early 2015 as a downloadable game; runs in 1080p on Xbox One and PS4. Last updated by Eddie Makuch on August 5, 2014 at 12:53PM. You are now subscribed. Capcom will release a remastered version of the original Resident Evil game for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC, the company announced today. Set to launch as a download in early 2015, the game is based on the 2002 GameCube "REmake" of the 1996 original. It will be released in North America and Europe, though pricing was not specified. The Resident Evil remake includes "additional enhancements" that will make it the "definitive" version, Capcom says in a post today on its blog. Character models and backgrounds have been improved, and there is a "scrolling" camera that will help integrate the original game's 4x3 presentation into a 16x9 view. This means that when you move Chris or Jill out of the frame, the view will "smoothly" scroll along with you, Capcom says. In addition, Capcom says that while the original "tank" controls will remain intact, players will also have a "modern option" where the character will move in the direction of the analog stick. If you don't want the new control or 16x9 option, you can revert to the original experience, Capcom says. Finally, the Resident Evil remake for consoles and PC has 5.1 surround sound support. The Resident Evil series is one of the biggest and well-known franchises in gaming; it has sold more than 61 million units to date across 92 different games. A seventh installment in the main series--Resident Evil 7--is rumored to be in the works. Resident Evil. The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! This is technically Capcom's 4th itteration of Resident Evil and the game has gotten better every time! Absolutely terrifying, gorgeous graphics, very campy and self-aware writing, and TONS of replayability. Resident Evil is still phenomenal after all these years. 125 out of 128 people found this helpful. Conquer your Fears. Unlike RE4 and most of its successors. RE 1 HD truly delivers one of the most challenging and unsettling enviroments. The harder difficulties amp up the stakes forcing you to evade and plan your next moves quickly and descisively just to make it to the next room. As small as the area is the attention to detial is what made it tower over most others. Good job Capcom. 107 out of 110 people found this helpful. 'RE'MASTERED' indeed! The remake on GC was great. You would think how can they make it again and it be very much if any better. Well CAPCOM pulled it off! Made such a improvement in the graphics and more modern style while keeping that classic feel. Survival Horror at its finest. 80 out of 83 people found this helpful. A Classic Remake of the one that started it all. Shinji Mikami like Hideo Kojima Made this game with the idea to create something new. He unknowingly would be the one to start the Survival horror genre. This game for its time (though not as nostalgic as the original version of Resident Evil on the PlayStation) is hands down one of the Scariest\ Stressful games in the Series. You play As Jill or Chris in a setting Straight out of a horror movie with danger at every turn limited ammunition and supplies and puzzles that can leave you wandering. But the true magic of the game is the combat and controls where as in other more famous Resident evils such as Re4 or Re5 this one made you feel helpless in the since that even if you do have things planned as to how your going to deal with your opposition it my never go you way. I give this Game a perfect rating because if you are a survival horror fanatic like me its the first one you couldn't play because it scared you too much but if your not and your looking into the genre this is it. 89 out of 93 people found this helpful. Survival Horror at its best. A HD, 60 FPS REmaster of the original remake on the GameCube. Controls have been updated with an option to use modernized settings to remove the "Tank" controls which the series is infamous for, and new "BSAA" costumes for Jill and Chris for those who want to play with a level of familiarity with the more recent Resident Evil titles. 117 out of 122 people found this helpful. nostalgia at its best. one of my favorite games of all time! you really cant go wrong with resident evil. its good for both casual and hardcore players alike. from the multiple endings to all the unlockables this game is a masterpiece. 50 out of 51 people found this helpful. ABOUT THIS GAME. this game was one of the best horor puzzle solving games made. If you like horor, and puzzles then this i sfor you it will keep you on your feet to the end. 32 out of 34 people found this helpful. a classic horror game at its best! The game itself is good and scary and has some intense moments like trying to outrun/kill the hunter or the Crimson heads and expecially with the terrible control it becomes a lot more challenging. The atmosphere is Creepy and amazing and the story is ok but there are some interesting characters, even though most of the characters are generic they're still likable. The tension built is good I also was always on the edge of my seat waiting for something to pop out around the next corner, and the sound design is creepy and amazing even my foot sets in this game scared me lol. But however I hate how frustrating this game is. seriously this game is just a big Rage Quit sometimes expecially with the Enemy. overall the game is good and is worth a buy! 11 out of 11 people found this helpful. You Gotta Love Survival Horror. This is my favorite Resident Evil game for the exact reason that the setting is in a mansion. when I first played this game it was everything that I expected. 9 out of 9 people found this helpful. Great revisit for fans. Couldnt have asked for a solid way to go back and experience the beginning of the series. Everything is here that fans have loved, along with making it a bit easier for newcomers to jump in and fill in the origin of it all. Raises excitement fot the remake of RE2 and anything else to come this way in the series, be it more remakes/remasters or new entries into the RE universe. 23 out of 26 people found this helpful. RESIDENT Evil 2 Remake fans could FINALLY get a release date and trailer this weekend, with a PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One launch all possible. Resident Evil 2 Remake update - Release date and trailer for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One? UPDATE TWO - Monday 9.44am GMT: Resident Evil 2 Remake fans were left disappointed after Capcom did not reveal a release date or trailer over the weekend. It had been hoped the Japanese developer would reveal more details on the PS1 revival as Resident Evil 2 celebrated its 20th birthday on Sunday. Capcom had also been dropping a few hints and teases on social media, leading fans to hope an announcement was imminent. But the 20th anniversary of Resident Evil 2's original release date came and went without any news on the remake. Capcom's R&D dev 1 team, who are developing the Resident Evil 2 Remake, had tweeted a few days before the RE2 anniversary to say they were in America. The timing of the tweet, a few days before the anniversary, among other teases led fans to thinking a release date or trailer announcement was coming. The tweet also featured an image where Resident Evil 7's dummy finger item and a typewriter, used to save in the original Resident Evil games, were also pictured. Clarifying the tweet, Capcom's R&D dev 1 team posted: "Good morning! Didn't mean to make everyone disappointed at all. but the dummy finger pics were just saying hello from where we were with the favorite shots of that morning. btw, thank you all very much for all the comments!" Sunday marked 20 years since Resident Evil 2 was released in Japan and North America - April 29 will be the 20th anniversary for the European release. So, another milestone date is on the horizon which Capcom could choose to mark by announcing more news on the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Resident Evil 7, the most recent numbered entry in the series, is out now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. So, a Resident Evil 2 Remake release for these platforms all seems possible. A Nintendo Switch release is also possible, with Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto recently revealing the developer is working on more games for the console. Resident Evil 2 - Fan remakes RPD building in Unreal Engine 4 [YOUTUBE] UPDATE ONE - Sunday 10.32am GMT: Resident Evil 2 Remake fans could finally get a release date and trailer today. Today is the 20th anniversary of the Resident Evil 2 release for PlayStation One in Japan and North America. And Capcom have been teasing fans, dropping hints that an announcement could be coming soon. The website residentevil2.com, a domain that Capcom owns, was recently updated - with it currently just saying “OK” on a blank page. But it will be worth keeping a close eye on that page in case it gets updated with something more substantial today. ORIGINAL - Saturday 8am GMT: The Resident Evil 2 Remake is one of the most highly anticipated games on the horizon, and fans could finally get a release date and trailer this weekend. Capcom has this month been teasing Resident Evil 2 Remake fans, with a release in 2018 for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC all possible. And in the past week the teases have been ratcheted up a notch, potentially ahead of a Resident Evil 2 Remake reveal tomorrow. Resident Evil 2 is fast approaching its 20th birthday, with Sunday January 21 2018 going to be two decades since it was first released. Resident Evil 2 was originally released on January 21 1998 in Japan and North America before a European release on April 29 1998. Capcom could mark that milestone date by releasing new information on the Resident Evil 2 Remake. And a number of things point towards an impending announcement. On Thursday Capcom's R&D dev 1 team, who are developing the Resident Evil 2 Remake, posted an intriguing tweet on Twitter. The account usually tweets in Japanese, but this time around they posted in English. They tweeted: “Good morning, everyone! (from the U.S.) Hope you all have a good day!:)". The cheeky smiley face at the end suggests this trip to America, which is a few days before Resident Evil 2’s 20th birthday, is not a coincidence. A picture was also posted alongside the tweet which could have a few Easter Eggs in it for fans. The picture, shot from an angle that made it hard to see what’s going, showed at first glance what looked like an unremarkable room. However, fans have spotted a few interesting things in the picture. Resident Evil 2 Remake - This is the only image released by Capcom for the PlayStation revival. Firstly, on the left handside of the photo is what appears to be a close-up of a typewriter. Typewriters were used to save games in the first four Resident Evil games, with Resident Evil 5 instead introducing an autosave feature. This glimpse of a typewriter could be a subtle nod to Resident Evil 2. In the background of the picture is also a windowsill, and on it is a fake finger similar to the dummy finger found in the demo for Resident Evil 7. Maybe this is teasing fans that the Resident Evil 2 Remake uses Resident Evil 7’s RE Engine? Or, alternatively, it could be teasing a demo for the Resident Evil 2 Remake is around the corner. Also this week, the website residentevil2.com - a domain that Capcom own - was updated. It’s now a blank website, apart from the word “OK” appearing on it. This recent activity could mean Capcom is gearing up for a Resident Evil 2 Remake announcement. Express.co.uk will bring you the latest news when it happens, but we’d advise you to keep a close eye on residentevil2.com come Sunday. Ranking the core Resident Evil games from worst to best. RESIDENT Evil 7 looks like the scariest entry in years, but how will it stack up against the very best and worst of Resident Evil over the years? Resident Evil 6 was more of an action game than survival horror [CAPCOM] The first signs of an impending Resident Evil 2 Remake announcement began earlier this month. The teases began when Capcom updated the profile picture for the Resident Evil Facebook and Twitter pages. The main image instead showed the old-school Resident Evil logo used during the PlayStation One days with the Baker Mansion from Resident Evil 7 in the background. This logo and font for Resident Evil was used for the original game, as well as the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis box art in the UK. Resident Evil 2 was released on the original PlayStation back in 1998. Around the same time Capcom also changed the header image for the official Biohazard Twitter page. Biohazard is the name of the Resident Evil series in Japan, and recent social activity again suggests an announcement is inbound. On the Biohazard Twitter page, the header image has been changed and divided up into four slots. Three of the slots show Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition, Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil Revelations 2. But the slot on the far left hand side has currently been left blank, suggesting the space is being saved for another game. Good morning, everyone! (from the U.S.) Hope you all have a good day!:) pic.twitter.com/g8OQ94ju2D. — カプコン第一開発部公式 / Capcom R&D Dev1 Official (@dev1_official) January 18, 2018. The three games pictured are all out now and there are no other newly released major Resident Evil games currently on PS4, Xbox One, PC or Nintendo Switch. So, that blank space could be getting saved for an image of the Resident Evil 2 Remake. The Resident Evil 2 Remake was first announced back in 2015, but no images or in-game footage was shown when the PlayStation One revival was announced. All that fans had to go one was confirmation that the game was finally happening, and a logo for the project. Related articles. The original survival horror is being re-released as a download-only revamp of the GameCube remake of Resident Evil 1. Technically this is a remake of a remake, but considering the 2002 GameCube version of Resident Evil is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror games ever made – not to mention one of the best remakes ever – that’s not even close to being a bad thing. Although based closely on the 1996 PlayStation original, the remake adds a number of new locations and enemies – as well as dramatically improving the graphics, despite retaining the same fixed camera viewpoints. Apart from a 2009 version for the Wii, the GameCube remake has never been released on any other format. This new downloadable version will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in ‘early’ 2015. There is no Western price yet but in Japan, where the last gen versions will be released before Christmas, it will cost ¥3,990 (£23). The game will run in 1080p on next gen consoles and 720p for last gen, and will feature 5.1 surround sound support. You’ll be able to play it in either a classic 4:3 screen ratio or in widescreen. There’ll also be a new ‘scrolling’ camera, which sounds like a halfway house between the original fixed screen views and the more recent games. There’s also to be a variety of control styles, starting with the old school tank controls from the original. But there’ll also be a more modern alternative where you simply move in the direction you push the analogue stick. The remake is a great game but what’s perhaps most interesting about the announcement is what it suggests about Capcom’s future plans for the Resident Evil series. Is this a sign that they want a return to the true survival horror of the original? Or is it just a simple cash grab to keep the franchise’s name in the headlines? Until they announce Resident Evil 7 (or the rumoured reboot) we won’t know for sure…
