Rocket League is Coming to Xbox One on February 17. (Updated on 2/9 at 3:20PM to include pricing details) Since last December, when we first announced that Rocket League was headed to Xbox One, new and existing fans alike have been asking us WHEN they could expect to see our soccer-meets-driving, sports-action hybrid come to the platform. As you can tell by our headline, we’re proud to announce that the answer to that question is next week – it’ll be available beginning on Wednesday, February 17 for $19.99 USD (or its regional equivalent)! Rocket League has been a long time coming to Xbox One, and the team here at Psyonix is incredibly proud to be bringing it to you thanks to our development partners at Panic Button. With their help and expertise, we were able to bring Rocket League to XB1 with a high level of performance and fidelity. Plus, as an added bonus for Xbox One players, we have also included three of our previously-released DLC Packs for free already-bundled into the game: “Supersonic Fury” – Two Premium Battle-Cars, 12 Decals, 5 Paint types, 2 Rocket Trails, 2 Wheels “Revenge of the Battle-Cars” – Two Premium Battle-Cars, 12 Decals, 3 Paint types, 2 Rocket Trails, 2 Wheels, 4 Toppers, 2 Antennas “Chaos Run” – Two Premium Battle-Cars, 12 Decals, 2 Wheels, 2 Rocket Trails, 3 Toppers, 3 Antennas. Xbox One owners will also be the proud owners of two exclusive vehicles — The “Armadillo” from Gears of War and the Warthog variant from Halo , dubbed the “HogSticker” – in addition to several Xbox-exclusive Garage items like Fizzie and the Overcharge Rocket Trail from Sunset Overdrive . Besides the exclusive stuff, you can also expect an incredible amount of content in Rocket League on the whole – with more than 100 billion possible customization combinations for your Battle-Car, a fully-featured offline Season Mode, multiple game configurations including 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 match-ups for offline, online, and competitive play, special match Mutators that let you change the rules of the game, our “Snow Day” Hockey mode, and lots, lots more. Rocket League Xbox One Review. When IGN first reviewed Rocket League on PlayStation 4 last year, we gave it a score of 8.0 for “Great.” Here’s what we said then: “Rocket League is a rare example where the execution of a simple, absurd idea is so strong and so engaging that it doesn’t need a ton of extra features around it. The rush of ripping across the pitch at full turbo to deny a shot on goal with a clutch bicycle-kick is enough to bring me back time and time again for just “one more match,” even without meaningful progression systems. Rocket League is a great, goofy, easy to learn and difficult to master action-sports game which demands that you grab a few friends and play a few rounds.” The best value for first-time buyers who want to go all in on Rocket League and its extra content. Six months after its initial release, developer Psyonix’s, feel-good, easy-to-pick-up, impossible-to-put-down, breakout success has finally arrived on Xbox One. This new port of Rocket League packages the same fast-paced action along with new Xbox-exclusive themed cosmetic items, and three of the previously-released downloadable content packs, making it the best value for first-time buyers who want to go all in on Rocket League and its extra content. The special formula that makes Rocket League so good has made the jump to Microsoft’s console completely intact. Hitting pitch to tumble through the air to make impossibly angled shots, and pull off clutch saves is as exhilarating as ever, and the constant stream of unlockable cosmetics and vehicles – including the Halo and Gears-of-War-themed machines – mean even in a loss I still felt like progress was made. That being said, Rocket League on Xbox One probably isn’t worth revisiting for veteran players who’ve already spent hours ripping across its neon-coated arenas. It’s the same great gameplay to be sure, without the cross-platform matchmaking that PS4 and PC players enjoy, so it’s hard to call this the definitive version. And though connection instability causes noticeable rubberbanding from time to time, which can really screw up a shot at the worst possible time, the server-side issues are no worse than the original release and usually resolve when jumping into a new match. Rocket League on Xbox One brings the same excitement to a whole new audience. Though it’s missing cross-platform play here, its totally deserved success to-date ensures that matchmaking lobbies are still filled with players. With its already budget price, and bonus DLC content thrown in, there’s never been a better time to pick up Rocket League. Rocket League on Xbox One is an equally electric experience, minus the cross-platform matchmaking the PS4 and PC enjoy. Feel-good controls Fast, frenzied matches Surprising strategy Cosmetic unlockables Server Hiccups. © 1996-2018 Ziff Davis, LLC. Earlier this year, developer Psyonix’s Rocket League made quite the impression when it debuted on Windows PC. It goes something like this: You – along with fellow players spread across two teams – control speedy, rocket-powered cars, and you’re competing to slam a ball into a net to score points and win the game. Yes, Rocket League is a crazy, physics-based soccer game where the players are cars . And the cars can wear hats. It’s pretty awesome. And in February 2016, it’s coming to Xbox One! What’s more: The Xbox One version of Rocket League comes with all kinds of goodies. The games’ three content packs – Supersonic Fury , Revenge of the Battle-Cars , and Chaos Run – come bundled with the game, and those titles should paint a pretty good picture of what you’re in for. All told, you’ll be getting six extra Battle-Cars and more than 50 garage customization items, as well as access to the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine DLC that’s for sale on launch day. Coolest of all, you also get two Xbox One-exclusive Battle-Cars, the Halo “HogSticker,” an alternate version of the famous Warthog Force Application Vehicle, and the Gears of War “Armadillo,” an Armored Personnel Carrier. Both add exciting elements to the Rocket League you know and love. “We love those games, and wanted to give Xbox users something special for patiently waiting for Rocket League to come to their system,” said Jeremy Dunham, Vice President at Psyonix. “We also have a rather strong tie to Gears of War in particular, as the team here at Psyonix developed the ‘Burnt Rubber’ stage for the original Xbox 360 version of Gears of War all those years ago. It was great to be able to go back to our roots and pay homage to one of the games that got us started. As for Halo, we’re just big, big fans – and we’d be crazy to NOT want to do a version of the Warthog for our game. And that’s how the HogSticker was born. It’s called the HogSticker, by the way, because it’s a modified Warthog with Needlers strapped to the back, as its primary propulsion devices. It’s pretty damned cool!” And you can also expect lots of updates to the game. Rocket League has received 10 major updates since its original launch earlier this year, and Psyonix plans on aggressively supporting the Xbox One version, with free downloadable arenas and more DLC packs. Dunham even shared some secrets for success in Rocket League. “The best tip, really, is to practice. Rocket League is a skill-based game, so your success and failure is dependent on what you can or can’t do as a player. We don’t have statistical attributes for cars (just hit box and turning radius differences), there isn’t one boost that’s better than another, and there’s no power-up or other advantage-giving item to speak of. It’s just you versus your opponent. The key for us was to make sure that the game was fun no matter what. If you enjoy Rocket League, win or lose, then we’ve succeeded in our mission to bring you pure, competitive entertainment.” Rocket League was one of the biggest surprises of 2015, and we’re excited to finally get our hands on the Xbox One version. Check out the new trailer above, which debuted at this week’s Video Game Awards – and prepare to go wild in the Armadillo and Warthog, come 2016! Rocket League for Xbox One. At the starting screen, before the title screen appears and without skipping any previous splash screens, press Up(2), Down(2), Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. When the title screen appears, the text will read "Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars", which was an older title from the game's developer. Gain the indicated amount of experience to reach the corresponding level: Easy "Far, Far Away. " achievement. Any distance travelled while boosting will not qualify. Start an Exhibition match with no bots enabled. Drive laps around the field as long as needed to get the "Far, Far Away. " achievement. Easy "Hot Shot, Part Two" achievement. You must defeat the bots in a 1 vs. 1 Exhibition match on the Unfair difficulty with a heart decal equipped on your battlecar. You must win the match without making any mistakes. If you miss a shot, the bot will almost always score a goal. Remain inside your goal until the bot makes a shot against your goal. Then, charge using your boost and clear the ball towards their goal. Do not jump to make the shot. With good aim, you can score all the way from your own goal. If you missed the goal and the ball moves to their side of the field, collect a 100% refuel for the boost and immediately return inside your goal and try again. If you hit the ball but it did not reach the bot's side of the field, get as many small boosts as possible on the way to your goal, then immediately return inside your goal and try again. If the ball gets close to their goal and you are absolutely sure that you can get it in, charge forward and do so. However, if you miss, the bot will almost always score against you. Repeat this process until you win the match to get the "Hot Shot, Part Two" achievement. Easy "SARPBC Forever" achievement. Play a game with the classic Battle-Cars, Octane and Backfire, to get the "SARPBC Forever" achievement. Note: You do not have to win the game. Easy "Sky High" achievement. Host a private match. Join a team and have another person join the opposite team. Have the other person continuously hit the ball high in the air. Get an Aerial Hit by hitting the ball in mid-air when it is higher than the goal. Afterwards, have the other person get a self-goal. Start an Exhibition match and hit the ball above the goal line. When the "Aerial Hit" message appears, pause the game and choose "Change Team". Then, score your own goal to get the "Sky High" achievement. Easy "Stocked" achievement. Both winning and losing will award you with an item. Complete 165 games in any mode (including Exhibition against bots) to get all items. Play an Exhibition match with no bots. Go to the "Mutators" setting, set the game to end with one goal. Keep playing until you have obtained all items to get the "Stocked" achievement. Easy "Survival Of The Fittest" achievement. Start an Exhibition match. Go to the "Mutators" setting, and set the number of goals needed to win to "1". Equip the Shark Fin Topper and select Unfair Bot Match 1 vs 2. Then, score the first goal to get the "Survival Of The Fittest" achievement. Easy "Throwback" achievement. Enter the garage and choose Backfire or Octane. Equip the Accelerato Boost. Rocket League transcends its chaotic mishmash of sports, racing and fighting to create an elegant and endlessly competitive game for the ages. Fierce footy and flying cars that take time to truly master Electric rounds of back-and-forth ball bouncing Loads of playful customization that dont disturb team balance. Sorely missing a better full-featured spectator mode No cross-platform play on Xbox One. Rocket League is a special kind of brilliance wrapped in a special kind of stupid, much like Einstein draped in a Hello Kitty sleeved blanket. Rocket-propelled battle cars juke, jostle and roll in a horribly misheard version of soccer, stripped to just three players on each side and an oversized ball that likes to explode when it bounces into the arena goal. The sport is so reduced that people merely exist as a vague crowd rumbling in the distance, vocal only before they count down the last ten seconds of a match in unison. Humanity is less important than the eccentric cartoon cars of Rocket League, and for once that absence leads to a friendly game of infinite, ceaselessly intricate competition. You may absolutely take it seriously. There are benefits to this effective dehumanization of sport in Rocket League. It leaves a video game that feels like the video game you’ve been training your whole life for. It’s super fast, fully three-dimensional and after luring you in with the pizazz of colorful hotrods clashing over a big ball, reveals itself to be a rich and pleasing interface between player and acrobatic vehicle, like a riotous amalgam of racing, fighting and cyber-FIFA. With no signs of humankind, there are no figures to vilify when you lose, no obnoxious victory poses to curse and no toxic atmosphere awaft with teabagging toddler-brains. It’s just flipping cars, a bouncing ball and players who can only express themselves - endlessly - through those two wonderful things. All’s fair in physics, too. Rocket League’s ball is the most important object in the game - but it can’t be reasoned with outside of a tap from your car. Once you’ve given it a nudge, it’s gonna go where it’s gonna go. The joy of Rocket League is in finding all the pre-nudge possibilities and permutations and becoming so attuned to your car’s movements that explicit thinking evaporates, leaving only instinct in the eternal battle of who’s gonna nudge next . You’ll learn something new and minor almost every round: how much distance you can cover with the double-jump forward flip, or how high is too high for you to sail right below the ball in misguided anguish. There’s the sideways flip-boost, sending the ball into the goal at a right angle; the glorious (but especially difficult) rocket flight above everyone else to snatch a ball from the heavens, the rude bump of an opponent to ruin their planned trajectory into a rocket-fuel pickup on the field. There is just as much skill to learn as there is to demonstrate by accident (don’t worry, nobody will ask if it’s the latter). The arena design in Rocket League covers a visually eclectic array of places, from an ornate garden embellished in brick to a slice of Mad Max’s deserted backyard. They all share an elegant oval shape that funnels the ball toward the goal - but rarely straight into it. In fact, a huge part of playing well is learning to bounce or roll the ball against the curved perimeter (even rocketing across the walls and ceiling, if you must) and get it in just the right spot for a decisive headbutt or a flanking teammate to seal the deal. The enclosed arena keeps things moving, always, and comes to represent just how satisfying and neatly locked in all of Rocket League’s mechanisms are. Play it enough and it’s like existing in that capsule. Your body is a car now. You drink gasoline and fart fire. Man would not become car quite so quickly if Rocket League wasn’t also peppered with respectful features to put play at the forefront. Loading times leave in a flash, there’s split-screen play (remember that?) along with a huge list of gameplay mutators that make exhibition matches between friends feel especially wild. There are clever little touches, like the ball changing color and vibrating frantically when it’s about to roll over into a score, or how all nearby cars are tossed back in the subsequent screen-rattling explosion. And though Rocket League feels perfect in 3v3, you can go as low as 1v1 or to the chaotic 4v4 mode, if you suspect all the pretty cars should crash into each other more often. The game is also generous in dishing out new gameplay-neutral car designs, wheels, rocket trails (I highly recommend the trail of bubbles), funny hats and flags as you level up, though the rich level of customization makes the lack of a more developed, public spectator mode sting a little. In other Rocket League things that sting: The Xbox One version is tardy, arriving about 7 months after debuting on PS4 and PC. The additional time has not led to the definitive version, sadly - the smaller pool of players is to be expected at first, but the absence of cross-platform play maroons the Xbox crowd on its own little island. The PlayStation 4 version can talk to Windows, but the Xbox version can’t? Rocket League on Xbox One does come with the game’s ‘Season 2’ refinements, including a more sensible professional tier system, and new arenas (like Wasteland) and Xbox-exclusive car bits, but it’s also missing the experimental arena types from ‘Rocket Labs’ mode, available on other platforms. It is absolutely lovely to play with the Xbox One controller, though, especially if you’re fortunate enough to have an Elite handy. Regardless of where you play it, Rocket League is a vivid example of a restrained yet silly form of competitive play that only video games can provide. It could easily claim to be a weird racing game, a four-wheeled fighting game or a completely legitimate sports game, but debating its genre feels like the academic detour we don’t need - decidedly not for a game about on-the-spot learning, instinctive skill and soccer-cars flipping all over the damn place. The Verdict. Rocket League. Rocket League transcends its chaotic mishmash of sports, racing and fighting to create an elegant and endlessly competitive game for the ages. Rocket League Xbox One Release Date Revealed. Rocket League will be available on Xbox One on Wednesday, February 17, developer Psyonix has confirmed in a new post on Xbox Wire. “Rocket League has been a long time coming to Xbox One, and the team here at Psyonix is incredibly proud to be bringing it to you thanks to our development partners at Panic Button,” said Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham. “With their help and expertise, we were able to bring Rocket League to XB1 with a high level of performance and fidelity.” Dunham reiterated that the three previously-released content packs – Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run – will be bundled with the game on launch. The Xbox One version will also include two unique vehicles inspired by Halo’s iconic Warthog and the Gears of War ‘Armadillo’ APC. After appearing in Taiwan’s Game Software Rating Regulations bureau’s database in early December, Microsoft confirmed days later that Rocket League would indeed make its Xbox One debut in February this year. At a very productive Game Awards ceremony last night, Psyonix announced that Rocket League would finally be coming to XBOX One! Prior to the event, The Game Awards announced that they would have at least ten exclusive world premieres, one of which would be related to Rocket League. What could it be? More DLC? An event? An XBOX One announcement that we were seeing rumours of a couple of days ago? Having picked up two of the three awards Rocket League was nominated for (Best Independent Game and Best Sports/Racing Game), it was time for Psyonix's big reveal. As it happens, it was actually a confirmation that Rocket League will be coming to XBOX One, shown with this trailer. The details are still a little vague, but from the trailer we know that Rocket League should arrive on XBOX One in February 2016 and will come with two exclusive cars. From Halo there will be the Hogsticker, and from Gears of War there will be the Armadillo. Until recently an XBOX One release seemed unlikely in the near future, but now we know it was in the works all along. What are your thoughts on it? All material about Rocket League belongs to Psyonix, Inc. Rocket League – Xbox One. This thoughtfulness extends to the studio’s crafting of a convincing world where Rocket League is the number one sport. You see it in the multi-tier, sold-out arenas and you hear it from the indistinct chants of allegiance from the fans. The crowd goes ‘Oooohhhh!’ or ‘Aaaaahh!’, whether it’s a goal or a key ball hit at midfield. These sprinkles of realism aren’t strictly necessary but are greatly appreciated; for instance, the pitch itself features blades of grass that all move independently. These manicured fields are best admired during the pre-match camera shots, but you can’t be faulted for staring at them in the middle of a game. They are complemented by the myriad customization parts, from wildly swinging antenna flags to neon-blue engine exhaust trails. The joy of Rocket League rests on the countless plans that are conceived and discarded every other second in any given match. Trying to predict where and how the ball will bounce next is a game within the game. Despite the use of cars, Rocket League emulates the emotional surges typical of The Beautiful Game, such as the rush of an unexpected fast break or a well-timed header into a goal. With Rocket League, the promising concept of combining two wonderful things–cars and soccer–is equally magnificent in execution. You can’t say the same thing about, say, combining cake and fruit to make fruitcake, as the comedian Jim Gaffigan observed. You may also like. 5 Comments. The game is the type where its easy to play, anyone can drive a car into a ball, but hard to master, not every one can fly and hit the ball out the air and on target. 19 out of 19 people found this helpful. Shooting to the Stars. Rocket League is a true gem. It's an expirience that is just as fun alone as with a friend, due to the many modes the game has to offer, yet first and foremost. it's just incredibly fun. Probably the most unique aspect of it is that everyone I know enjoys it and from the get go it's very easy to learn the ropes. For me it's one of those games that stick out in a console generation and has already become a classic that I feel will still hold up well in 10 years time. 89 out of 103 people found this helpful. Great way to pass time really fun to play , the matchmaking could do with some slight improvement have experienced some issues myself. 46 out of 55 people found this helpful. Fun with friends. Imagine if FIFA & Forza had a baby, and that baby was adopted by Michael Bay, that is Rocket League. Because I swear every game I'm blown up whenever im in net! Despite that, I have a blast playing it, and find myself coming back for more pain and torture of losing matches like I'm on Tinder. 9 out of 9 people found this helpful. Class game. Its addictive!
