PUBG Coming to Xbox One on December 12, 2017. Xbox fans, we know you’ve been waiting and we’re so excited to finally be able to say it – PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is coming to Xbox One as a console launch exclusive through the Xbox Game Preview program on December 12, 2017! We shared this news at Paris Games Week today, where Brendan Greene – aka PlayerUnknown – and I opened the Xbox booth with Aaron Greenberg, General Manager of Xbox Games Marketing. Beginning December 12, Xbox fans will be able to play PUBG while it’s still in early access through the Xbox Game Preview program. We’re approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that we’ve taken with the game on PC. As a result, the ultimate battle royale experience that fans play on Xbox One will be slightly different than what players know today on PC. In addition to announcing Xbox’s XGP launch date on December 12, we also shared the exciting news that we’re on track to launch 1.0 for the PC version in late December. This has been an amazing year for us and launching both 1.0 on PC and on Xbox through Xbox Game Preview are huge milestones for the team. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time, but I’m even more excited to say that we’re just getting started. Both versions are being developed at the same time, but they both have their own separate roadmaps. Various Xbox One features and functionality will change and come online over time just like they have on PC, with our goal being to have both versions align to each other as soon as possible. Feedback as you know has been critical to the game’s success, so beginning December 12 we want to hear from Xbox fans on what they think about PUBG and how we can make the best version of the game possible. In celebration of PUBG’s upcoming launch on Xbox One, we’ve collaborated closely with the team at Xbox to create three special, limited-edition cosmetic packs – the PUBG Warrior Pack, the PUBG Accessory Pack and the PUBG Tracksuit Pack. These packs are exclusive to Xbox fans as standalone offers available for a limited time and as there are no plans to feature any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version, are the only items that can be purchased during the preview period. We’re super excited to be able to bring these to Xbox One fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game as a special thank you for your patience and passion for PUBG . We’ll be sharing more details on timing and pricing in the weeks ahead. If you are attending Paris Games Week, be sure to come by the Xbox booth and check out “The Wall.” We’ve set up a massive 50-person gameplay experience where players can come battle it out in a series of live matches that will be nothing short of epic. Having everybody in a match together all in one room is really special and is going to be a lot of fun. Thank you to the entire PUBG community for providing feedback and making our game such a success already. We’re working hard with our partners at Microsoft to bring PUBG as a console launch exclusive on Xbox One through the Xbox Game Preview program, and we can’t wait to meet you on the island on December 12! For Xbox One owners, the wait to play PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) will end December 12th. The battle royale game consistently racks up 2 million daily players on Steam, and in just over a month it will transition to the Xbox Game Preview program as a work in progress, with studio Bluehole leaning on players to help guide the game's development. "We can use it like Steam Early Access where we can develop on console with the community, and that's going to be really essential -- in our view -- for getting a really great version on console," creator Brendan Greene told Engadget. The version that comes out in December won't be a direct 1:1 port, though. At least not yet. The most noticeable difference is that PUBG on Xbox One won't feature the PC version's upcoming "Desert" map (below), which has a big emphasis on verticality in an urban environment. Greene said there wasn't a timeframe for when Xbox fans will be able to explore that map. Other than that, he said that the two games are "essentially" the same. That means the Xbox version will have vaulting and climbing at launch in December, which was announced back at E3 in June but still is in testing on PC. The game's 1.0 version will release sometime later in December, according to a post on Xbox Wire . What separates the pair is the development cycle. PUBG has been playable on PC since March, and as such it has a nine month (at least) lead time in terms of features. "We want the same game on both platforms, but the Xbox version is obviously lagging a little bit behind when it comes to the PC version," Greene said. "There's not a different feature set, it's at just different points in development." When asked if Bluehole had a timeframe in mind for the PlayStation 4 version, Greene's answer wasn't hopeful. "No, not at all," he admitted. He said that right now the team is focused just on getting the Xbox One port out the door. And, since the PS4 doesn't offer its own game preview program it's anyone's guess when that will happen, but games need to be pretty much feature complete for Sony to list them on the PlayStation Network Store. For example, Ark: Survival Evolved didn't come out for PS4 until late this August, when the Xbox Game Preview version was released in December 2015. Early Access isn't all sunshine and rainbows, though. Sure, PC games like Dead Cells , Nuclear Throne and PUBG have benefitted greatly from fans being able to play works in progress. Their respective developers have been able to take good games and make them great, tapping the players for input about what does and doesn't work. But there's another side to this coin. The aforementioned Ark currently sits with a 4/10 user score on Metacritic for its PC version, with the PS4 and Xbox One editions ranking 3.9/10 and 4.1, respectively. But with how PUBG has taken over Steam and Twitch, it doesn't seem like that'll be the case once the game arrives on Xbox One. The game had already sold 10 million copies on PC as of September. Come December PUBG could very well be the poster child that the Game Preview program desperately needs: a high-profile indie that's garnered almost universally positive acclaim during an extended — and public — test period. It won't have much competition with other exclusives on the system this fall, that's for sure. Entertainment. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is coming to the Xbox One on Dec. 12 through Xbox's Game Preview program, expanding the wildly popular game's audience beyond just PC players. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds ( PUBG ) came out on Steam early access in March of this year and has seen regular updates with new and improved features, with an expected full release on PC coming later this year. Its addition to the Xbox One family was announced at E3 this summer. Now we have a release date. I was able to talk to developer Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene and C.H. Kim, CEO and executive producer of PUBG Corp, about the current state of PUBG and what we can expect from the game in the future. PUBG on Xbox One. The PUBG that's coming to Xbox One is pretty much the same PUBG we've seen on PC, except it will include one extra feature that is expected to come to the PC version soon: The ability to vault yourself over obstacles. As both versions move toward full releases, they'll continue to receive updates, including the new desert map, and a new 3D replay feature. The goal is to make the PC and Xbox One versions of PUBG as aligned as possible. "We want to unify them eventually, we want to give the same experience across both platforms," Greene said. Part of that same experience is the similar beginnings on the Early Access/Game Preview programs, which allows the developers to continue improving the game while getting valuable feedback from players before its full release. Greene and Kim mentioned that this sort of early access for players is very important for game development — developers can show off the core of the game to players and get their feedback to help evolve the game. This was a success for the team on Steam and they expect similar results through Xbox's Game Preview program. Player feedback has sometimes had a direct result in changes to PUBG , Greene said. "We made a change to the way that you interact with loot about a month and half ago now, where we changed the interaction on the inventory looting or [picking loot up from the ground]," Greene said, "And the community — I wouldn’t say revolted about this — but they made their voices heard that they didn’t like this change and they pointed out that for one of these methods, you could learn to be faster as a mechanical skill, and we didn’t really think of that. But then once they made this point, it was like, ‘You know something, they’re right.’ So we reverted the change and it made the game better." Kim said that he hopes PUBG 's success could inspire more people to develop games in a similar way. Despite the conversation around the game and its copycats, Greene is actually a fan of developers that seem to be inspired by the success of PUBG by making their own battle royale-style game modes. "You know how they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? It’s great to see a genre I helped pioneer grow with more and more games." "When I saw [ Grand Theft Auto V ] launched Motor Wars — I remember playing GTA , the original on LAN with friends — and seeing a franchise like that adding a game mode that I helped conceive is crazy to me," Greene said. "You know how they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? It’s great to see a genre I helped pioneer grow with more and more games. It’s exciting to see." PUBG 's publisher, BlueHole, isn't quite as excited about these flatterers, though. In September, BlueHole accused developer Epic Games of replicating the idea of PUBG in Fortnite 's Battle Royale mode. BlueHole said it was contemplating taking further action against Epic, but there's been no word on that since. The future of PUBG. Once the full versions of PUBG make their way onto their respective platforms, Greene made it clear that this doesn't mean the game is done and the developers are wiping their hands clean. "We really want to continue refining, polishing, and improving the game over the next five, ten years," Greene said. "We’re building this as a service, not as a bought and done game." How exactly will that look? “We’re committed to really making the best version of Battle Royale we can, whether that’s adding (in the future) more maps, 4K textures. all this kind of constant improvement, like, for example, [ Counter-Strike:Global Offensive does]," Greene said. "Dust has been remade many times now and I’d like to think that we’ll do the same with our maps." "We’re building this as a service, not as a bought and done game." Greene referenced one of the most iconic maps in multiplayer gaming, Dust, which first appeared in the original Counter-Strike mod in 1999. Since then, the community-made map has been retooled and remastered nearly a dozen times, and is currently referred to as Dust2. Greene aspires to work in a similar style with PUBG 's only map, Erangel. Along with a continuously updated game, Greene and Kim would like to see the competitive side of PUBG grow. "I always wanted from day one — four years ago creating Battle Royale in Arma 2 — I’ve always thought it would be a great esport," Greene said. Of course, he acknowledges that in order to have a successful esport, it has to grow from the community, and that it's not something that can be forced onto people. Kim also acknowledges that PUBG is a pretty unique game in the esports space, given the high number of participants in single matches, whereas most other popular esports are 1v1, whether with individual players or teams. PUBG 's unique format hasn't given it a clear path to a specific competitive format yet. "What we want to do now is figure out which is the best fit for PUBG and then grow together with the community," Kim said. And in December that community will be even bigger. PUBG news: Xbox One update, Battlegrounds PS4 release date, PlayerUnknown’s Steam jump. PUBG NEWS This week includes a new Xbox One update, a Battlegrounds PS4 release date reveal and a PlayerUnknown Steam jump. PUBG news this week includes a big PS4 release date update. PUBG on PS4 is still a very much wanted game release and could be one of 2018’s big launches. While it may sound strange putting Battlegrounds next to titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, the latest stats cannot be underestimated. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has peaked with a massive 3,106,358 concurrent players on the PC platform. That’s a huge Steam jump and doesn’t even include the numbers currently playing PUBG on Xbox One. To put those numbers into perspective, the game broke DOTA 2's previous high of 1,291,328 users back in September, and has shown no signs of slowing down. And in a recent interview, Chang Han Kim, CEO of PUBG Corp, confirmed that the PUBG PS4 release is still pretty far away. He also told Invenglobal.com that PlayStation’s lack of an early access program means it will probably arrive even further behind the PC and Xbox One. “As it’s going to be an exclusive title on Xbox One for some time, we’d like to focus on completing the Xbox One PUBG for now,” Kim revealed. PUBG Battlegrounds Desert Map Miramar. BATTLEGROUNDS fans will be able to check out the Desert map on the test servers soon. “If we have the opportunity, the final goal would be to launch the title on every platform. “Early Access on Steam and Game Preview on Xbox One are like pre-release, so they don’t have a restriction on quality. However, PS is very strict about this. There were cases where a game took 6 months more to launch even when it was already completed. “We are still in the stage of learning the console development environment and console gamers’ taste. “We need to think about other platforms after evaluating and completing the Xbox One version first.” From what was said, it seems safe to say that PUBG on PS4 will not be arriving until it’s left the Xbox One Preview Program. And there’s currently no set release date for the Xbox One either, meaning it could be a solid amount of time before we see talk of a fully playable PS4 version. Related articles. The new Battlegrounds update gives players new ways to enjoy Squad mode. The Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds can now play Squad mode as a one, two and three person team without matchmaking. The patch, which is available now, doesn't require a game update and won't take the game offline. The latest patch follows a recent update that addresses in-game lag. "We have deployed a small patch to reduce the character position readjustment issue and further reduce intermittent in-game lag," Bluehole explains. The developer also released a server side patch that addresses an in-game crash. Most read in Gaming. PUBG UPDATE: Servers going down again for new patch, Battlegrounds Twitter confirms. During Paris Games Week, developer Bluehole revealed that the phenomenally popular battle royale game launches in early access for the console on December 12 for $30. Beginning that day, Xbox One players will be able to play PUBG via the Xbox Game Preview program. Bluehole also says that it's "on track" to release the 1.0 PC version in late December. While the developer is working on both PC and Xbox One versions simultaneously, it notes that each has its "own separate roadmaps" and will differ slightly from one another. "We're approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that we've taken with the game on PC," Bluehole VP and executive producer Chang Han Kim wrote on Xbox Wire. "As a result, the ultimate battle royale experience that fans play on Xbox One will be slightly different than what players know today on PC." Xbox One players will also be able to purchase some exclusive content in the form of special cosmetic packs. Three such packs will be available to purchase for a limited time for the Xbox One version: the PUBG Warrior Pack, Accessory Pack, and Tracksuit Pack. Aside from these three, Bluehole says it doesn't have plans to offer any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version. You can take a look at a few of the exclusive cosmetic items above. Microsoft announced that PUBG would be coming to Xbox One later this as a "console launch exclusive" during its E3 2017 press conference this past summer, but up until today we didn't know when the game would arrive aside from a vague "late 2017." Microsoft is publishing the Xbox One version, and it's been reported that Microsoft is trying to extend the game's exclusivity period on Xbox. One of this year's biggest success stories in video games, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, is set to soon make its Xbox One debut, with an exclusive console release via Xbox Game Preview. Promising to deliver a near identical experience to the game's PC version, the multiplayer shooter is expanding to a new audience, reworked for the Microsoft's console family. With the game's arrival scheduled for December 12, Microsoft has announced its release times across Xbox Live regions. As a game delivered digitally over the Microsoft Store, the game's rollout will be staggered between regions, allowing those located further east to get hands-on ahead of the west. Here's a breakdown of the game's worldwide release schedule, as first outlined by Xbox Live's director of programming, Larry Hryb. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds took the world by storm when it released on Steam earlier this year. The PC exclusive title quickly became a streamer’s delight as the game’s uncertainty from match to match made for excellent viewing. It has even started to challenge long-time Twitch king League of Legends for the top spot which is huge. The popularity for this game seems to have no end. With that increasing popularity, it should come as no surprise that the title is making its way to Xbox One in the near future. We expect it’ll be out later this year but we haven’t heard anything concrete about the release date. PUBG was unveiled during Microsoft’s E3 press conference earlier this year and is arguably the biggest title coming to the console later this year, especially with the delay of Crackdown 3. Microsoft is publishing the Xbox One version of the game and PUBG’s developer Bluehole has a good relationship with the software giant. Mike Ybarra, Microsoft’s Vice President of Xbox and Windows platform, spoke a little about that relationship in an interview with Digital Trends. “The Bluehole/Microsoft relationship right now is an incredible positive,” Ybarra told Digital Trends. “They’re obviously the biggest game, period, out there right now–eight million copies in four months, a lot of good momentum for them.” “Now that we’re publishing the Xbox version of it, there’s people on my team and marketing resources that have opened up for Bluehole,” Ybarra continued. We have a number of engineers helping them optimize for Xbox–both the Xbox One version, and the Xbox X version, in terms of the enhancements that they’ll bring to the title.” “I think that it’s the standard partnership that we do with developers on specific titles when we really want to work together to bring something amazing across, and that’s a great title from a Windows and Xbox standpoint […]. I love it–I think they’re an awesome developer.” The game was announced as a Console Launch Exclusive which suggests the game can eventually make its way to other platforms. The easy assumption would be a PS4 version but we don’t know anything for absolute certainty yet. Control Scheme. Windows Central The controls for PUBG on Xbox One. One of the big changes from the PC version to the Xbox One version will be the change in control schemes. Most PC gamers go with the mouse and keyboard combination but Xbox One players won’t have that luxury. Windows Central got a look at the control scheme for the title and it is pretty much what you’d expect with a console shooter. If you’re comfortable with the Xbox One controller then this title should feel right at home for you. We expect to see the addition of an aim assist to help make up for the shortcomings of a controller. The controls aren’t the only thing receiving an overhaul with the Xbox One version. PC players will be used to the drag-and-drop inventory system but that has been replaced on console with buttons instead. Windows Central says X will be used to equip or consume items, Y will drop items while holding Y will split a stack of items in half. It can take some getting used to if you’re coming from PC but it’s pretty much the only option the Xbox One has. Xbox One X Enhancements. With the upcoming release of the Xbox One X, a lot of games are receiving updates to take advantage of the newer hardware and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is no different. The big promise is a native 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR). We’ve seen this is possible with games like Super Lucky’s Tale but what about with more demanding titles? Anthem was found to be checkerboard 4K instead of a native 4K, like Microsoft has said their console is capable of. PUBG probably falls somewhere in between those two titles in terms of required hardware. Something that might worry players is the CPU found in the Xbox One X. The Xbox One X CPU comes clocked at 2.3Ghz so you’ll definitely be seeing an improvement over the base Xbox One but the CPUs remain very similar. There are still issues plaguing the game on PC even on high-end builds but that’s just par for the course for early access titles. With 100-man servers, there’s going to be a lot of stress put on your CPU so it’s a fair worry that the console version won’t be able to provide a stable framerate. Eurogamer has found the title maintains 30 FPS on Xbox One X which should be reassuring to potential owners. There’s no mention of the base Xbox One or Xbox One S so we don’t know what to expect with that version. Many Xbox One games fall below 1080p resolution in favor of increased performance and it’s possible we might be looking at a similar thing here. When is it Coming? During Paris Games Week, the Xbox One version of PUBG was given a release date of December 12, 2017. Microsoft needs a heavy hitter to release with its new console and this seems like as good of a title as any. Keep in the mind that the title is still in early access on Steam. When the title does finally come to Xbox One it will join the preview program. Other games have been in the program in the past such as Ark: Survival Evolved and The Long Dark so that’s not uncommon to see titles released there. However, this means you can expect constant changes and probably expect to experience a few bugs in the beginning. We don’t really have a clear idea on when the title is leaving early access on Steam and it sounds like it could be before the Xbox One version even arrives. The team has declared it will be ready by the end of this year but they have pushed back the time before. Here’s what the development team told PC Gamer in July about PUBG leaving early access on Steam. Today I want to update everyone on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds progress through Early Access. The amount of support and feedback we have received from our community has been incredible. I want to thank you all for your bug reports, feedback and suggestions. As we continue to fix bugs, improve gameplay and add new content, it’s important to for us to deliver you a fully realized and polished Battle Royale experience as we look towards launch. Over the past few months I have done a lot of interviews, and in many of them, I said we hoped to be out of Early Access six months after we first launched. I’ve come to realize that restricting the window to a specific month could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community if the launch deadline is not met. So, we have decided that we are going push the full launch back a bit from the initial six-month timeframe, but want to assure you that we are still planning a full release before the end of Q4 2017. We will continue to push weekly and monthly updates until full launch as we want to ensure that the game we release is the best version possible. This is why we’re giving a launch window rather than an exact date. We hope this makes sense, and appreciate your understanding. As always, I want to thank you all for your continued support. Last updated by Patrick Faller on October 26, 2017 at 10:48PM. Please enter your date of birth to view this video. By clicking 'enter', you agree to GameSpot's. You are now subscribed. [UPDATE AND CORRECTION] Playerunknown himself, Brendan Greene, told IGN that PUBG will be available on a disc for Xbox One. GameSpot regrets the error. The original story is below. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been an unprecedented success on PC, even though it's still in Early Access, and a Xbox One release is on the way. Now, PUBG's developer has announced that the game will get a physical version for the console too. At E3 2017, Microsoft announced PUBG would be a "console launch exclusive" for the Xbox One and would be releasing in late 2017. While we still don't know when exactly to expect the game on the console, the game's Twitter account has just revealed that you will be able to buy a physical version of the game. Microsoft is also reportedly working to keep the game an Xbox One exclusive for longer, attempting to delay PUBG's possible release on PlayStation 4 or other consoles. Developer Bluehole hasn't confirmed or denied the reports, which also suggest it's in discussions with all major console companies. Instead, Bluehole says, "[T]he team is solely focused on bringing the best game possible to Xbox One and PC," with nothing further to announce at this time. Meanwhile, PUBG continues to topple milestones on Steam. Earlier this month, it surpassed 2 million concurrent players, and at this time of writing has peaked at nearly 2.2 million concurrent players as indicated on Steam's stats page. Above: The Battle Royale is coming to Xbox One soon. One of PC gaming’s biggest hits is finally making the leap to consoles when PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (read my early access review) goes live on Xbox One on December 12 for $30. The unfinished battle royal shooter will launch as part of the Xbox Games Preview program, which is similar to the Early Access portal that PUBG is available through on Steam. This console release will then exist separately from the PC version. PUBG on Xbox One will have its own development roadmap and won’t reach its 1.0 version when its Steam counterpart does so in late December. It will get Xbox One X enhancements, and PUBG Corp., the Bluehole subsidiary that develops the shooter, plans to add in some upcoming PC features into the Xbox version before its December 12 launch. “We’ll be adding vaulting and things like that,” PUBG creative director Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene told GamesBeat. “We hope to make some improvements to the game before releasing it. I can say, 100 percent, vaulting will be there, and it should be a pretty good version of the game.” Greene and Bluehole (prior to the creation of PUBG Corp.) announced the Xbox One version in June at E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo trade show event) in Los Angeles. PUBG Corp. chief executive officer C.H. Kim explained that it was a lot of work to get to a December release date. “For Steam Early Access, we are refining the game,” C.H. told GamesBeat. “And we didn’t expect the game to be so popular before the 1.0 version, so then to take on the console market — where few Korean gaming companies have a lot of experience — so it was a lot to take on. But with Microsoft as our partner, we were able to leverage their resources to launch the Xbox Game Preview version as quickly as possible.” Microsoft isn’t just a partner, though. The company stepped in to publish the game on Xbox One as well. “That’s been really great,” said Greene. “We have had quite a small team working on the Xbox version, but with Microsoft we can get support from their user-experience teams giving feedback on the game to them sending folks out to South Korea to work with us there. They really want to see the best version of battle royal that they can on their console, and they’re doing everything they can to help us get there.”
