So far this game has been the best $20 bucks I've spent in awhile. I more consistantly have fun on this game then others. Keep up the good work! 50 out of 52 people found this helpful. 2017 Game of the Year. Best $20 bucks I ever spent. If you enjoy playing any other game or being outside, do not get this game. Rocket League, where Quick Thinking, Crazy Addictive Fun and Maximum Thumb Stick Agility, meet to make your dreams come true! (Ok, I over did it there). There's nothing like immediate satisfaction as you'll find yourself improving each game. The better you get the more addictive it becomes. Eventually, you'll find yourself figuring out teamwork, rotations, and executing some of the sickest moves on the planet! (I did it again). In game text, great music, a plethora of options to trick out your ride, and so much more make this game even better. Just get it already. (Seriously, get it already) I'm always down for a game or ten, so hit me up. 503 out of 572 people found this helpful. My favorite competitive online game. Matches are fun with decent length, 5 minutes unless it goes into overtime. To compete with good players, you need to learn rotation (when to move up to hit the ball or support a teammate and when to hang back as goalkeeper) and how to use your boost in order to reach the ball, but if your opponents are new then it's more like practice. Remember, it is a team game. 178 out of 206 people found this helpful. Worth every penny! Not too many games come around that are as fun and addictive as Rocket League. For $20 you totally get your moneys worth. 75 out of 83 people found this helpful. Rocket League is the best competitive sports game currently out on consoles. Every car being nearly the same without any real advantages; this game requires pure skill (and good teammates). The developers are constantly adding free content via updates. What a save! Only gripe: The cars could use additional decals. Close one! 47 out of 52 people found this helpful. Soccer With Cars. What's Not To Love!? Rocket league is a soccer game with cars that is probably one of the best games I've ever played. I love the fact that it is challenging and takes practice because it means that it actually takes skill to be good at. Which is great because it means every 10 year old kid you play against won't be able to beat you without practicing a lot. If you havent ever played, seen, or know about Rocket League. I'm telling you; buy it right now. Worth every penny. 35 out of 38 people found this helpful. Rocket League is great for all ages. You can make your car look sick, and show it off online. You can play with friends and see who is best! I I Iove the game so much, I love fact that you can play hockey, basketball, soccer! I would highly recommend getting the game. 14 out of 15 people found this helpful. This game is fun and entertaining for all the kids and adults! (me to!). My problem is the In-App purchases. It just randomly annoys me that you have to purchase the coolest things. and lastly, the game overall. The game is full of excitement in every way, and I have to add the the customization to this. It is full of all kinds of cars, decals, paint finishes, tires, rocket boosts, etc. and I love that. My other problem is the performance of when your in a 1v1, 2v2, etc. The game lags to much and has some problems not just in the arena, but in the menu as well. I hope they fix all of these problems for not just me, but for the other people who encounter some problems like me. But still, this is a great game. Great job, guys! 227 out of 276 people found this helpful. Ohhhhh all the balls you will blast. Seriously. you will blast lots of balls, into a square hole in the wall. or floor. or net. This is because Rocket League is highly addictive, and trash talking is the best when you score 5 goals in 20 seconds. For reals, I played Rocket League for like 3 months straight, only this. ONLY THIS. Until i had to give into other titles calling my name. It is great, it is good. Just please, rocket league, please stop charging to buy keys to open boxes from which the quality of item is always sub-par. Thanks. 261 out of 319 people found this helpful. Translate to English. Rocket League Xbox One/PC Cross-Play Goes Live Today. Soccer-with-cars game is the first Xbox One title to support cross-play with PC. Last updated by Eddie Makuch on May 24, 2016 at 4:19AM. You are now subscribed. Rocket League is being updated today to support cross-play between Xbox One and PC, developer Psyonix announced this morning. This is notable ("a historic moment in multiplayer gaming," the developer says) because Rocket League becomes the first Xbox One game to allow cross-play with PC. Lionhead's Fable Legends was also going to offer cross-play between Xbox One and PC, but that game was canceled. The PlayStation 4 version of Rocket League already supports cross-play with PC. Psyonix also announced today that almost 2 million people have now played Rocket League on Xbox One since its launch in February. That doesn't necessarily mean the game has sold that many copies on Microsoft's console, however. Whatever the case, cross-play with PC will undoubtedly increase the pool of available players. When cross-play goes live at 3 PM PST / 6 PM EST today, Xbox One players can choose to include--or prohibit--PC players from their matches by checking a box in the Options menu. "We're really excited to bring Xbox One and PC players closer together," Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham said in a statement. "Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched, and thanks to Microsoft's new cross-network policies, w''re proud to give it to them." In March, Microsoft made a big announcement when it said it would natively support cross-platform play between Xbox One, Windows 10, and other "online multiplayer networks." The move effectively opens the Xbox Live platform so that it can accommodate players on Sony's PlayStation Network, among others. There have been no Xbox One/PS4 cross-play games yet, but Rocket League could be the first, if it's ever allowed. Psyonix said it's not a technical matter holding it back, but rather it's an issue of politics. "The only thing we have to do now is sort of find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it's full steam ahead to finish the solution that we've already started," Dunham said in March. Cross-Network Rocket League Play Arrives on Xbox One and Steam PC. As we promised in March, cross-network play for the Xbox One and Steam PC versions of Rocket League will officially roll-out later this afternoon by 3pm PT/ 6pm ET/ 10pm UTC, making it the first-ever Xbox One game to support cross-network play with a Steam PC game. Nearly 2 million Xbox One players have already competed in Rocket League since we launched in February 2016, but with today’s new cross-network update, your potential pool of teammates and opponents will grow even larger! It’s an historic moment for us here at Psyonix, and we’re really exciting to bring Xbox One and Steam PC players closer together. Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched, and thanks to Microsoft’s new cross-network policies, we’re proud to give it to them. Enjoy the new feature — and remember — you can toggle cross-network play on or off with an easy-to-find check box in the Options menu. Note: Online matchmaking services may not be available until the patch has fully deployed. Rocket League Blasts Onto Xbox One. Earlier this year, developer Psyonix’s Rocket League made quite the impression when it debuted on Windows PC. It goes something like this: You – along with fellow players spread across two teams – control speedy, rocket-powered cars, and you’re competing to slam a ball into a net to score points and win the game. Yes, Rocket League is a crazy, physics-based soccer game where the players are cars . And the cars can wear hats. It’s pretty awesome. And in February 2016, it’s coming to Xbox One! What’s more: The Xbox One version of Rocket League comes with all kinds of goodies. The games’ three content packs – Supersonic Fury , Revenge of the Battle-Cars , and Chaos Run – come bundled with the game, and those titles should paint a pretty good picture of what you’re in for. All told, you’ll be getting six extra Battle-Cars and more than 50 garage customization items, as well as access to the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine DLC that’s for sale on launch day. Coolest of all, you also get two Xbox One-exclusive Battle-Cars, the Halo “HogSticker,” an alternate version of the famous Warthog Force Application Vehicle, and the Gears of War “Armadillo,” an Armored Personnel Carrier. Both add exciting elements to the Rocket League you know and love. “We love those games, and wanted to give Xbox users something special for patiently waiting for Rocket League to come to their system,” said Jeremy Dunham, Vice President at Psyonix. “We also have a rather strong tie to Gears of War in particular, as the team here at Psyonix developed the ‘Burnt Rubber’ stage for the original Xbox 360 version of Gears of War all those years ago. It was great to be able to go back to our roots and pay homage to one of the games that got us started. As for Halo, we’re just big, big fans – and we’d be crazy to NOT want to do a version of the Warthog for our game. And that’s how the HogSticker was born. It’s called the HogSticker, by the way, because it’s a modified Warthog with Needlers strapped to the back, as its primary propulsion devices. It’s pretty damned cool!” And you can also expect lots of updates to the game. Rocket League has received 10 major updates since its original launch earlier this year, and Psyonix plans on aggressively supporting the Xbox One version, with free downloadable arenas and more DLC packs. Dunham even shared some secrets for success in Rocket League. “The best tip, really, is to practice. Rocket League is a skill-based game, so your success and failure is dependent on what you can or can’t do as a player. We don’t have statistical attributes for cars (just hit box and turning radius differences), there isn’t one boost that’s better than another, and there’s no power-up or other advantage-giving item to speak of. It’s just you versus your opponent. The key for us was to make sure that the game was fun no matter what. If you enjoy Rocket League, win or lose, then we’ve succeeded in our mission to bring you pure, competitive entertainment.” Rocket League was one of the biggest surprises of 2015, and we’re excited to finally get our hands on the Xbox One version. Check out the new trailer above, which debuted at this week’s Video Game Awards – and prepare to go wild in the Armadillo and Warthog, come 2016! Rocket League Review. When I initially reviewed Rocket League on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2015, and Xbox One in 2016, I gave it an 8.0 for “Great.” Here’s what I said then: “Whether it’s online casual or ranked matches, no-pressure exhibitions, split-screen local co-op with up to four players, or an intense 36-week season mode, Rocket League is all about getting into the next throttle-pounding match as fast as possible. Unfortunately, servers are still struggling, which means your mileage may vary day-to-day when it comes to online features. But the silver lining is the mostly formidable AI can make even offline matches interesting and tense. The execution of this simple idea is so strong and so engaging that it keeps bringing me back, time and time again, for just one more match.” (Read the archived original Rocket League review.) Now, nearly three years later and with all the additional updates, features, and new platforms (including the newly launched Nintendo Switch version), Psyonix’s insane formula of rocket-powered cars playing sports has only gotten better with age. The great news is that the key ingredient in Rocket League hasn’t changed a bit. The rules are simple: two teams of cars drive really fast around over a dozen glossy, brightly colored arenas doing fancy tricks and smashing an endlessly ricocheting oversized ball into the goal. The satisfying heart of Rocket League very much lives in that arcadey feeling of fluid and unrestricted movement. A game that’s still just as easy to pick up with a skill ceiling that’s hovering somewhere in low Earth orbit. But there’s a golden layer of strategy and mechanical depth tucked inside the chaotic mashing of metal. Timing a somersault, barrel roll, or bicycle kick to connect with the ball and send it sailing at a precise angle takes notable skill. Those basics, when coupled with expert teamplay and mind-blowing booster-powered aerial maneuvers, solidify Rocket League as a game that’s still just as easy to pick up with a skill ceiling that’s hovering somewhere in low Earth orbit. At launch, the content around that gameplay felt a little barebones. Since then, though, it’s been substantially fleshed out with smart alternate modes that emphasize different skills and add variety. The Snow Day hockey mode substitutes a dense, oversized puck for the bouncier soccer ball; Hoops is a basketball variant emphasizing aerial play; Dropshot is a two-sided floor-breaking mode; and Rumble mode deals out power-ups that disrupt players and influence the ball. It’s all a ton of fun. And of course, the competitive playlist for the traditional 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 shines as the great ladder system Rocket League was missing to bring some-term goals to its pick-up-and-play ease, offering seasonal cosmetic rewards and bragging rights as you try to climb through the ranked tiers. Overall, Rocket League remains a balanced multiplayer playing field. While the mechanical differences between the free cars and the large assortment of paid-for downloadable cars are noticeable, they’re barely relevant. Sure, some cars turn slightly faster, some have better hitboxes for flipping, but these small differences only really matter at the highest levels of competition, where a few modest purchases don’t seem like too much to ask. The cache of hundreds of tradeable cosmetic items continues to grow. Serious players have their go-to speedsters, but even with the continuous influx of brand-associated cars you can purchase and use, you’re still totally effective on the field. That’s a list that includes the Batmobile, a DeLorean, and the platform-exclusive cars like the Mario/Luigi-mobile, Halo's Warthog, or Sweet Tooth's ice cream truck. Meanwhile, the cache of hundreds of tradeable cosmetic items continues to grow. With everything from customizable goal explosions to player banners, there are innumerable combinations that allow you to truly stand out, and almost all of it can be earned just by playing. There’s some grinding, sure, but you’re always rewarded, and even duplicate items can be stacked up and traded in for items of better quality using a rudimentary crafting system that adds another layer to the appeal of collecting cosmetics. And yes, Rocket League does come with loot crates that you earn for playing online matches (roughly one every 10 hours of play), but here they’re used relatively inoffensively and can be completely toggled off in the options menu when setting up a game. You can't purchase them with real money, so there's no real pay-to-win element – especially since these items don't actually do anything other than make you look rad. Instead, they're more like optional rewards you get for grinding out online matches that you can open if you decide to spend $1.50 for a key (or $1 each if you buy in bulk). If you don’t want to spend money at all, you can still get at the contents of these boxes by participating in special, limited-time events that award you keys just for playing more Rocket League. The sheen on Rocket League’s sleek, neon-coated look varies by platform. On everything but Switch, it runs from the standard 1080p all the way up to 4K on PS4 Pro and PC right now. (4K and HDR support is confirmed to be coming soon to Xbox One X.) Visually, you can’t really go wrong with any version, since Psyonix has made efforts to ensure that you’re always getting 60 frames per second in one- and two-player local splitscreen game modes on most maps. But maintaining that frame rate comes at a price on the Switch, which runs a resolution of around 526p in handheld, and 720p while docked. Blown up on a decently sized TV, you can easily see a lot of rough, jagged lines and edges, both during matches and even in menus, and missing visual effects in arenas. That said, in handheld mode it’s incredibly cool to be able to play Rocket League no matter where you are in a portable enough form that beats the hell out of carrying a laptop and a controller around. But the small screen in portable mode makes it difficult to be as precise, and I regularly found I had a harder time nailing those precise angles that become second nature over time. And that becomes much worse when trying to play local split-screen on the Switch in tabletop mode - half of a small screen is almost comical. While I did notice some occasional rubberbanding on the Switch while playing on the go – which is likely a symptom of having to use WiFi in handheld mode – the majority of my online matches were smooth and consistent on all platforms. Rocket League’s colorfully absurd cars-playing-sports concept works so well because the energy of its arcadey gameplay meshes with its deep team-based strategy and variety of modes. It’s exceedingly rare to find a multiplayer game that’s welcoming and approachable for new players and so intricate that the best players can earn a living by mastering its depths. Rocket League is a golden example of turning a good idea into something truly amazing. Rocket League is an energetic mashing of arcade driving and sports, with a sky-high skill ceiling and endless personality. © 1996-2018 Ziff Davis, LLC. ROCKET LEAGUE could be set to hit the Xbox One if these recent comments from developers Psyonix are anything to go by. Rocket League on Xbox One: Fans using the Microsoft consoles still have hope of a release. Rocket League, the physics-based vehicle soccer game, has been a success story on both the PS4 and PC, racking up over two million downloads across both platforms. The titles sees eight cars fighting it out on a football field and is currently available to PS Plus members for free. And although Rocket League is currently only available on consoles via the PS4, publisher Psyonix are an independent outfit and can therefore bring the game to any platform. However, the developer does have a close working relationship with Sony, highlighted by recent comments made by studio head, Dave Hagewood on the development of the game. Hagewood also revealed just how close the game came to a regular release, before Sony stepped in an made their offer. "I don't think we say enough how great this fanbase is. I've lost count of how many "please take my money" posts I've read. You guys are simply amazing. "PS+ Instant Game Collection has been an interesting story for us. When the great people at Sony proposed it to us a while back we thought it was a great idea. "At the time we didn't know if the game was going to be successful enough for all the work we put into it and this would be a way to expose it to a larger audience. We always knew that Rocket League would be big if we could get enough people to try it. "Then. the Beta happened. With all the new hype surrounding the game it didn't seem to make sense to go forward with PS+ IGC. At this point we were pretty set to go forward with a regular release. Related articles. "Then Sony stepped up and told us how much they really wanted the game on IGC. They made us a solid offer and promised to really help promote the title. Coupled with the larger player base and general goodwill it spreads we decided to go for it. "With that said, our hope is still that Rocket league will earn enough to keep us busy making, well, more Rocket League. As soon as we decided to go IGC we stepped up our plans for DLC packs (and we have some very cool stuff going on there). If you are looking to support us even sooner there is also the Steam version, PS4 Theme, soundtrack, and merchandise (coming soon). "Once again, I can't thank you enough for this support. I can't wait for launch and I can't wait to play everyone here online!" For those still hoping for a release on Xbox One, however, there is still some hope, the official Rocket League Twitter account has made several comments over the past month on the subject. Asked if the game was coming to the Microsoft console, they replied: "We're being cagey on that answer for now." They further commented after a fan questioned whether an Xbox release was even possible, tweeting: "Sony has been a big supporter of the game, but we're an independent dev; we developed it ourselves (we're on PC too)." Rocket League players will soon have an even wider breadth of teammates to choose from, as Psyonix has announced that Xbox One and PC cross-network play is going live for all today. Players around the world will be able to match up with cross-network Rocket League aficionados beginning today at 6pm ET/3pm PT. If your buddy primarily takes to their Xbox One and you find yourself gravitating to PC, you can finally play together across both platforms. This isn't the first time a platform has allowed for cross-network play, as evidenced with games like Shadowrun back on Xbox 360, Portal 2 on PlayStation 3. But it is a first for the Xbox One, tracing back to an announcement from Microsoft itself back in March. It's the beginning of an exciting new precedent where we'll be seeing Microsoft further expanding its online gaming offerings, and Rocket League is a great choice for kicking things off. "We're really excited to bring Xbox One and PC players closer together," said Jeremy Dunham, Vice President of Psyonix. Now, Psyonix has provided more specifics, saying Switch users can play with Xbox One and Steam players. There was no mention of PlayStation 4 in Psyonix's blog post. We have followed up with Psyonix in an attempt to get more details on why PS4 is not supported. Rocket League for Nintendo Switch supports TV and mobile play (of course), as well as online and local multiplayer. Online multiplayer supports up to eight players, Psyonix said. The Switch version of Rocket League has all the same content, features, and updates from the other editions. There are exclusive Battle-Car and customization items, including Mario and Luigi hat toppers. Rocket League's Switch edition will launch this holiday, though a specific release date has not been announced. More details about the game will be announced later this year. Rocket League Xbox One Review. When IGN first reviewed Rocket League on PlayStation 4 last year, we gave it a score of 8.0 for “Great.” Here’s what we said then: “Rocket League is a rare example where the execution of a simple, absurd idea is so strong and so engaging that it doesn’t need a ton of extra features around it. The rush of ripping across the pitch at full turbo to deny a shot on goal with a clutch bicycle-kick is enough to bring me back time and time again for just “one more match,” even without meaningful progression systems. Rocket League is a great, goofy, easy to learn and difficult to master action-sports game which demands that you grab a few friends and play a few rounds.” The best value for first-time buyers who want to go all in on Rocket League and its extra content. Six months after its initial release, developer Psyonix’s, feel-good, easy-to-pick-up, impossible-to-put-down, breakout success has finally arrived on Xbox One. This new port of Rocket League packages the same fast-paced action along with new Xbox-exclusive themed cosmetic items, and three of the previously-released downloadable content packs, making it the best value for first-time buyers who want to go all in on Rocket League and its extra content. The special formula that makes Rocket League so good has made the jump to Microsoft’s console completely intact. Hitting pitch to tumble through the air to make impossibly angled shots, and pull off clutch saves is as exhilarating as ever, and the constant stream of unlockable cosmetics and vehicles – including the Halo and Gears-of-War-themed machines – mean even in a loss I still felt like progress was made. That being said, Rocket League on Xbox One probably isn’t worth revisiting for veteran players who’ve already spent hours ripping across its neon-coated arenas. It’s the same great gameplay to be sure, without the cross-platform matchmaking that PS4 and PC players enjoy, so it’s hard to call this the definitive version. And though connection instability causes noticeable rubberbanding from time to time, which can really screw up a shot at the worst possible time, the server-side issues are no worse than the original release and usually resolve when jumping into a new match. Rocket League on Xbox One brings the same excitement to a whole new audience. Though it’s missing cross-platform play here, its totally deserved success to-date ensures that matchmaking lobbies are still filled with players. With its already budget price, and bonus DLC content thrown in, there’s never been a better time to pick up Rocket League. Rocket League on Xbox One is an equally electric experience, minus the cross-platform matchmaking the PS4 and PC enjoy.
