Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a video game developed by 2K Australia with cooperation from Gearbox Software, formally announced on April 9th, 2014 and released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 14th, 2014 for America, October 16th, 2014 for Australasia, and October 17th, 2014 for Europe. It was later included alongside Borderlands 2 as part of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on March 27th, 2015.
Story.
Set at a point between Borderlands and Borderlands 2 , four aspiring Vault Hunters fight alongside Handsome Jack, witnessing his transformation into the ruthless tyrant people loved to hate in Borderlands 2 , and inadvertently assisting with the rise of the Hyperion Corporation and his position within it.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel begins as Colonel Zarpedon and her Lost Legion assault and capture the Helios space station. Jack proceeds to send his new Vault Hunters to the surface of Elpis, Pandora's moon, in an effort to find a way to retake the station.
Unlike Borderlands or Borderlands 2 , where events take place as they occur, the events of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are the story told by a captured Athena to an audience of Lilith, Mordecai and Brick, with occasional interjects from other characters as the story progresses.
The signature shoot n’ loot gameplay of the Borderlands series expands with the addition of low-gravity combat and oxygen-powered double-jumping, the icy Cryo element, the deadly and varied laser weapon class, and new vehicles to help explore the lunar landscape of Elpis.
Characters.
Playable Characters.
The initial four playable character classes are all familiar faces from the Borderlands universe:
Jack the Doppelganger - A body double of Handsome Jack who implements digistructed copies to help him in battle. (Released as the Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack on November 11, 2014). Aurelia the Baroness - The trillionaire sister of Sir Hammerlock who uses a homing Frost Diadem Shard to freeze her enemies. (Released as the Lady Hammerlock the Baroness Pack on January 27, 2015).
Vehicles.
Elpis - the moon of Pandora Concordia Crisis Scar Eleseer Outlands Canyon Outlands Spur Outfall Pumping Station Pity's Fall Regolith Range Serenity's Waste Stanton's Liver Sub-Level 13 Titan Industrial Facility Titan Robot Production Plant Triton Flats Tycho's Ribs Vorago Solitude Helios - Hyperion's H-shaped space station Eye of Helios Helios Station Hyperion Hub of Heroism Jack's Office Lunar Launching Station Research and Development Veins of Helios.
Weapons and Manufacturers.
The Pre-Sequel uses the Borderlands 2 Weapons system, with some changes and additions. Many of the items return or are re-purposed versions of their Borderlands 2 counterparts. Unique and legendary items continue to have flavor text and associated special weapon effects. The primary differences between games are:
Cryo replaces slag as a weapons effect Laser weapons are included as an additional weapon type Scav weapons replace (but are functionally identical to) Bandit weapons Glitch rarity weapons are introduced with the Claptastic Voyage DLC.
Each manufacturer has a particular focus unique to their weapons:
Dahl's weapons focus on stability, precision and burst fire, and feature camouflage coloring. Most Dahl weapons feature a full auto fire rate without scoping in, while scoped in the gun shoots in bursts. Hyperion weapons focus on high accuracy, with sleek styling. Unlike with other weapons, the accuracy of Hyperion weapons increases the longer the trigger is depressed, but they start off with low accuracy. There are two types of Hyperion weapon - those that were previously featured in Borderlands 2 , featuring mostly yellow/green coloration; and 'old' Hyperion weapons that are red with black stripes, featuring higher bullet damage but lower fire rate and accuracy. Jakobs weapons retain their tradition of high non-elemental damage (with exception to a few weapons), high recoil and low magazine sizes. Assault rifles, shotguns and pistols fire as fast as the trigger is pulled, while sniper rifles range from slow bolt action to semi-automatic. Maliwan weapons focus on elemental damage, and take on a very sleek and futuristic design with rounded corners, bright colors and blinking lights. Scavs make many of their own weapons. These weapons appear as if poorly taped and cobbled together, and while mostly featuring mediocre stats, sport the largest magazine capacities. Tediore weapons are thrown away and explode like grenades; the more ammo left in the clip, the more powerful the explosion. A fully-loaded gun digistructs in the character's hand after the expended weapon is discarded. In addition to this mechanic, Tediore laser weapons also discharge a mildly damaging shock tether to nearby enemies before detonation. Torgue weapons focus exclusively on explosive Gyrojet ammunition, which balance area-of-effect damage with low projectile velocity and reduced magazine capacity. Vladof continues their tradition of weapons with extremely high rates of fire, and produce rotating minigun-like barrels.
Miscellaneous Features.
Badass Rank - Completing challenges increases Badass Rank, and the harder or higher level the challenge is, the more Badass Rank is rewarded upon completion. Earning enough rank awards a Badass Token, redeemable for stat increases that apply to all characters belonging to a profile. Badass ranks are now visible to other players in a co-op game. A Badass Rank of 2500 or higher is required to get the Excalibastard. Character Customization - Skins and heads are available as drops from bosses, certain enemies and as mission or challenge rewards. They feature varying grades of rarity. Grinder - A machine that combines 3 items of the same rarity, conforming to a recipe, to potentially create higher quality items. Moonstones can be added to most Grinder combinations, ensuring the best possible outcome for the items used, including a chance of adding a Luneshine bonus to the created weapon. Inspection - During co-op games, players can inspect one another, bringing up a copy of their friend's ECHO log to see what items they have equipped, which skills they are specced into, and their Badass Rank rewards. Luneshine - An additional bonus that weapons may possess, with a chance of appearing on weapons contained within Moonstone Treasure Chests or on Moonstone-ground Grinder combinations. Moonstone - Used as a currency for the Black Market, the Grinder, and Moxx-tails, and 40 can be used to unlock Moonstone Treasure Chests for high-quality loot. Moxx-tails - Special drinks that can be bought using Moonstones from Mad Moxxi's Up Over Bar, granting various substantial buffs that last for 30 minutes. One Point Wonders - "Game changer" skills that can change available options and gameplay styles while only requiring a single skill point investment. Oz Kits - Small, shoulder mounted pieces of equipment that stop Vault Hunters from suffocating when outside of an atmosphere and allow them to perform "double jump" air boosts and "butt-slam" attacks as long as their limited oxygen supply isn't depleted. Replaces the relic equipment slot from Borderlands 2.
Pandora's moon is named Elpis after the Greek personification and spirit of hope, the last thing that was freed from Pandora's Box. The songs that play over the introductory cutscene are Black Dragon , and (briefly) Goodbye , both by The Vines. The song that plays over the end credits is What Makes A Good Man? by The Heavy.

Borderlands Pre-Sequel Dev Will Consider Xbox One/PS4 Versions if Fans Demand Them.
Perhaps there is hope for current-gen versions of the upcoming shooter after all.

2K Games surprised some people earlier this year when it revealed that the next Borderlands game--Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel--would only be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. That remains the plan for the upcoming shooter, but there is now a glimmer of hope that it will eventually make it to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, too.
"All the players of Borderlands 2 are all playing on those [last-gen] consoles, that's the choice they've got. So we want to reward those guys and give them the Borderlands Pre-Sequel experience on that console," said 2K Australia's Tony Lawrence in a recently published E3 interview with Gamereactor. "If fans say, 'Hey, we'd really like this on a next-gen console,' well, we'll think about that. But right now, we're concentrating on the consoles we know."
That's as promising an indication as we've gotten to date that gamers who have fully transitioned to Xbox One and PS4 will still have the opportunity to play The Pre-Sequel. But Gearbox's Matt Armstrong notes that many of the fans clamoring for Xbox One and PS4 versions aren't necessarily indicative of everyone, saying that "the vast majority of our fans" still have their old hardware.
"The other thing is, it's between, it's the middle in a trilogy," he continued. "And moving it onto next-gen and requiring people to buy new hardware to play the middle on a trilogy feels a little disingenuous. And we sort of want to respect that. As I said, one day, maybe. We'll think about that, we'll see how people react to the game, how much fun they have, and whether or not everybody moves on to the next gen fully next year."
Indeed, while the new consoles have sold well, the install base for each remains relatively small compared with the previous generation of consoles. It's due in part to the huge install base for Xbox 360 and PS3 that Borderlands 2 was able to become publisher 2K's best-selling game ever. Gearbox head Randy Pitchford pointed out when Pre-Sequel was announced that Borderlands 2 had sold more copies than Xbox One and PS4 consoles combined (at least at that point). In light of that, the decision to develop The Pre-Sequel for last-gen hardware makes a lot of sense.
But that doesn't mean the game couldn't also be available on Xbox One and PS4 for those who would like to be able to play the game and easily record video or snap Netflix to the side while doing so. Given that Lawrence and Armstrong's comments came at E3, we checked with Gearbox to see if its stance on being open to considering Xbox One and PS4 versions had changed, but it declined to comment.
The Pre-Sequel is scheduled for release on October 14 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. For more, check out the new narrated gameplay walkthrough video above, which features the full demo that we saw at E3 last month.

Duplicating weapons and items.
This glitch requires that you are online with another player in the game. Have the desired weapon or item equipped that you wish to duplicate. Enter the inventory screen, and turn Badass Rank off and then on again to force an autosave. Trade the desired weapon or item, or drop it on the ground. Then, exit out of the game without selecting the "Save and Quit" option by either signing out of your profile, going to the dashboard, or resetting the system. Start the game again, and load the autosave. The other player will still have the traded or dropped weapon while your lost item will be restored with the autosave.
To duplicate weapons and items in split-screen, create a new profile. Load the game with your regular profile, and go to a location that does not autosave (non-travel areas). Have the second profile character join the game in split-screen, and drop the weapons and/or items you want to duplicate with your main profile character. Have the second profile character pick up all the weapons and/or items. Enter the inventory screen, and turn Badass Rank off and then on again to force an autosave. Then, have the second profile character drop all the weapons and/or items back on the ground. Have the first player/main profile grab all the weapons and/or items. Next, exit out of the game with the second profile character by signing out of their profile so their inventory is not saved. Then, go back into the game with the second profile character, and they will still have all the weapons and/or items in their inventory.
Infinite legendary weapons and create any legendary weapon.
After completing the "A New Direction" story mission, fast travel to Concordia, and go to Janey Springs' business office. She will explain to you that putting Moonstones into the Grinder will make better weapons. Fast travel to Serenity's Waste, and use the "Secret Iwajira boss" trick to find and farm the secret Iwajira boss for Moonstones, purple weapons, and the "Kiwk-Smart Thingy" legendary weapon. Obtain a lot of Moonstones and purple weapons, and at least one "Kiwk-Smart Thingy" legendary weapon. Then, use the "Duplicating weapons and items" glitch to duplicate as many purple and "Kiwk-Smart Thingy" legendary weapons as desired, and return to Concordia. To do this glitch using split-screen, activate the second controller, and sign into another profile (if you do not have one, create a new profile). When the profile is logged in, pause the game with the first controller, then press A with the second controller. You will now be in split-screen in Concordia. Take both characters to the Grinder machine. To do this glitch online, use the "Duplicating weapons and items" glitch. Put two "Kiwk-Smart Thingy" weapons and one purple weapon in the Grinder to create a new legendary weapon. The type of purple weapon determines what type of legendary weapon you will create. For example, if you put a purple shotgun into the Grinder, you will get a legendary shotgun. When the legendary weapon comes out of the machine, make sure to have the second profile character/controller pick it up. After you have created as many legendary weapons as desired from the Grinder (online players have the host quit to the dashboard), press the Xbox (middle) button on the first controller, and sign out of your profile to autosave the second profile with all the legendary weapons in their inventory. Then, just enter the game again with the second controller profile, and drop all the weapons for your main character. Note: You will not lose any Moonstones or weapons when you sign out of your profile or exit to the dashboard.
Legendary Excalibastard weapon.
Fast travel to Triton Flats, then follow the left path once you leave the building and are outside. When the path splits, continue left. Shortly afterwards, you will see a green jump pad on the right. Use it to reach the area to travel to Stanton's Liver. Once you are in Stanton's Liver, go left and jump off the cliff edge. Proceed along the rocky cliff edge to the left of the grey bridge. Jump over two large gaps to reach the Excalibastard weapon that is stuck in a stone. To obtain the Excalibastard weapon, you must have a Badass Rank of 2,500. Badass Rank can be obtained by completing challenges. You can view your Badass Rank at the menu screen to the far right.
Secret Iwajira boss.
Fast travel to Serenity's Waste. Leave the Janey Spring's building, and continue straight outside. There will be a small cliff on the right shortly after going outside that you can jump up on. Continue to the right towards the large building up the hill. Jump onto the rocks to the left of the large building, then jump onto the left sloped ledge of the building. At the end of the ledge, jump down to the narrow rocky ledge below. Go forward to reach a lava-fall. While on the ledge with the lava-fall below, use your jet to jump across the lava-fall to land on the small platform on the opposite side. Enter the lava cave, and proceed forward to reach a hole in the cave floor that leads to the "Pyroclast Grotto" area, with the secret Iwajira boss inside. He is a Level 30 Kraggon that is very hard to defeat alone unless your character is at least Level 29. Kill him to get a massive amount of loot, including Moonstones. You can also obtain purple weapons and the "Kiwk-Smart Thingy" legendary weapons from him. To farm Iwajira, pause the game, and select "Save and Quit". Once you are back at the main menu, select "Continue", then return to Iwajira and kill him again.
Secret Nel boss.
First, you must grab two letters that are hidden on the map that will spell "Dick" on the side of the Scavs leader Nel's base. After completing the sign, it will make Nel very angry, and you will have the ability to fight him after killing all of his men. Go to Regolith Range, and climb up the two tallest buildings in the south area of the map. First, you must shoot the rock in front of one of the buildings to release the air to launch on top of the air duct. Then, proceed up the building by jumping on the air ducts on the back of the building. At the top of the building is the first letter. To get on to the tallest building in this area, you have to use the jump pad to the left of the building. This will launch you on top of a balcony where you can find a small building to the right. Jump onto the small building and onto the air duct, then jump over to a huge screw on the side of the building. From there, jump onto the ramp, and make your way up to find the last letter.
Infinite XP, Moonstones, and loot.
Proceed through the main missions until you get the "Let's Build A Robot Army" mission (Level 14). In this mission, you will be tasked with letting turrets kill 12 Scavs. Follow your waypoint until you get to a closed door, which is where the Scavs come out to be shot by the turrets. When the door opens, start ground slamming in front of the door to kill the enemies before the turrets can kill them. This will cause an infinite number of Scavs to come out of the door. When the turret kills get too high, pause the game, and select "Save and Quit". Once you are back at the main menu, select "Continue", then run back to the door to start farming again. If the turret gets the 12 kills, the mission will proceed, and you will not be able to farm this area any longer. This glitch works best with multiple players so you can have more people killing the Scavs to prevent the turrets from killing them.
After you have completed "The Beginning Of The End" final story mission, you can find Sterwin located in southern area of Vorago Solitude. Accept his mission to be given a special grenade that you are supposed to use to capture a Guardian Wraith alive. Follow Sterwin to the enemy location. Instead of capturing the enemy with the special grenade, kill it, and another Guardian Wraith will spawn. Keep killing the Guardian Wraith, and another one will spawn. To easily kill the Guardian Wraith each time, align yourself in front of the spawn area, and shoot it in the head with a good weapon to keep easily killing it. If your character is leveled up high enough and you use a sniper rifle, you can kill it with one shot in the head. Keep killing the enemies until you run out of ammo, then pause the game, and select "Save and Quit". Once you are back at the main menu, select "Continue", and repeat the process. Repeat this as many times as desired to get an unlimited amount of XP, Moonstones, and loot.
During the "A New Direction" main mission early in the game, you can farm easy XP from the final boss "RedBelly" by quickly saving and quitting at the right time. RedBelly has two phases during the battle; the second phase begins when his helmet comes off. Once this happens, make sure not to kill the helmet. Focus only on RedBelly. The easiest way to kill RedBelly is to get him to chase you back to the venting machines. RedBelly will not leave his area -- so he will not enter the room. You can then shoot him from a safe distance. Once Belly is defeated, Jack will say "Who the hell were those weirdos? Oh whatever, I'm friggin' over it -- just turn off the signal!" When he finishes saying that, pause the game, and select the "Save and Quit" option. Once you are back at the main menu, select "Continue", run back to RedBelly, and kill him again. To save some time, you can jump over the garage by jumping on the lamppost, then jumping on the garage. When you are on the garage, jump on the sign, then leap over the wall, and proceed to RedBelly's location. Repeat this process as many times as desired. Use this trick to quickly reach Level 14. Note: If you do not select "Save and Quit" at the right time, the mission will proceed, and you will not be able to farm RedBelly again until later in the game.
Play through the main missions until you reach the "Titan Industry Factory" mission. When you enter the Titan Industry Factory, walk down the stairs, and wait for the "Tork Swarming" enemies to attack you. Get as many Torks around you as possible, then jump in the air, and ground smash to instantly kill all the enemies around and get a lot of XP. Once you have killed all of the Torks, pause the game, and select "Save and Quit". Once you are back at the main menu, select "Continue" to spawn back at the top of the stairs. Repeat this process as many times as desired. You can quickly go from Level 14 to Level 17 using this trick, as well as get some Moonstones from the enemies.
Throw your weapon on the ground, then immediately pick it back up to instantly reload it.
2001: A Space Odyssey Easter Egg.
Cross the grey bridge, and continue straight until you cannot go straight any longer. Then, go right and continue straight until you cannot go straight any longer. Turn right to see a cave straight ahead. Enter the cave to enter an area called "The Ventricles". Follow the path to the left. Towards the end of the path, there will be a hidden cave to the left above some large rocks. Enter that cave, and follow the path to reach "Higgins' Gully". There will be a tall purple monolith straight ahead. It is shaped like the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey . Enter the purple monolith to teleport through a psychedelic tunnel to a secret area that is similar to the prehistoric area featured at the start of 2001: A Space Odyssey . There is another tall purple monolith in the area below. Enter it to teleport to a small purple room, similar to the end of the movie. There is also a hidden chest in the room. When you leave the room, there will be a short cutscene that references another scene from the movie. Note: The monolith will no longer teleport you after it is used.
Mario Bros. Easter Egg.
Fast travel to Tycho's Ribs (unlocked later in the game). When you spawn, run through the two doors, then go left to see a hovering platform in front of you. Run pass the hovering platform, and jump down to the area below. When you land, there will be two entrances to your left; take the entrance furthest from you. Make your way through the U-shaped area until you see a new set of hovering platforms. Use the hovering platform in front you to reach the platform to the left of you by riding the platform up and jumping off it before you are killed. Ride the platform on the left to the top to warp to a secret area that is similar to the Mario Bros. series. There will be waves of enemies that come out of the pipes. If you defeat all the waves of enemies, you will be rewarded with three chests.
Master Chief Teddy Bear Easter Egg.
Enter Moxxi's bar in Concordia, and go to the far right side of the bar. There is a teddy bear in a chair at the end of the bar, wearing Master Chief's helmet from the Halo series. Press X to spin the bar chair to get some money.
NBA Jam reference.
The title of the "Boomshakalaka" side mission in Outlands Canyon itself is a reference to a line of commentary sometimes made by the announcer in the NBA Jam series after a huge slam dunk. During the mission, you can slam dunk while "on fire," similarly as done in the NBA Jam games.
Ned Kelly reference.
RedBelly's suit of armor is similar to that used by historical Australian outlaw Ned Kelly. Additionally, RedBelly is the name of a venomous Australian snake.
Pink Floyd reference.
In Triton Flats, you can find several prisms with light shooting out of them as well as a group known as the Darksiders. This is a reference to Pink Floyd and their album, "Dark Side Of The Moon".
Fast travel to Titan Robot Production Plant, then turn right and enter Titan Industrial Factory. When you spawn, proceed straight and slightly to the right until you cannot go straight any longer to reach a door in "Titan Industrial Facility - Nexus". Enter the door, and go up the stairs to reach Gladstone's office. There is a lockbox on the console in his office. Open the box to find a head inside and a gun called "Twin Gwen's Other Head", which can fire two shots at once. This is a reference to the movie Se7en . The gun name is also a reference to Borderlands 2 , where they had the same type of reference to the movie Se7en .
Space Jam reference.
The follow-up side mission to the "Boomshakalaka" mission is called "Space Slam," which is a play on the title of the 1996 movie Space Jam .
The Fifth Element reference.
A legendary weapon named the "ZX-1" is a rare drop from one of the enemies on the moon. Its description reads "Replay!" This is a reference to the "ZF-1" weapon in The Fifth Element movie, which allowed its shooter to designate a target that every shot would follow to hit in the exact same location.
"Waltzing Matilda" reference.
The "Jolley Swagman" side mission is based on the Australian folk song, "Waltzing Matilda".

The rarity of the ingredients used in the Grinder will determine the rarity of the produced weapon or gear:
Three white pieces of gear of same class: Green piece of gear of the same class Three green pieces of gear: One piece of blue gear Three blue pieces of gear: One piece of purple gear Two orange weapons + one purple weapon: One orange gun.
Combine the following ingredients to obtain the corresponding weapon type. The level of weapons you add to the Grinder are important. The newly created weapon will usually have the average of the weapon levels which were used to make it. Using three weapons from the same manufacturer usually results in a weapon made by a different manufacturer.
Assault rifle: Two assault rifles + one laser gun Assault rifle: Two assault rifles + one pistol Assault rifle: Two assault rifles + one shotgun Assault rifle: One SMG + one auto pistol + one assault rifle Pistol: Assault + laser + sniper Rocket launcher: Auto pistol + assault rifle + grenade Rocket launcher: Two assault rifles + one grenade Rocket launcher: Two shotguns + one grenade Rocket launcher: Two sniper rifles + one grenade Shotgun: SMG + auto pistol + assault rifle Shotgun: Shield + SMG + pistol SMG: Assault rifle + pistol + shield SMG: Laser rifle + assault rifle + pistol Sniper rifle: Shotgun + assault rifle + shield Sniper rifle: Shotgun + sniper rifle + shield.

Easy "360 No Scope" achievement.
To easily get the "360 No Scope" achievement, use a jump pad. You can find jump pads throughout the game. Increase the in-game controller sensitivity to spin faster. While doing a 360 spin on any jump pad, use your boost to slow down, and then aim at an enemy and kill them with a sniper rifle without using the scope. While playing as Nisha, use the Action Skill Slowdown (auto aim) to do this more easily.
Easy "Moxxi's Sampler" achievement.
Have at least 80 Moonstones in your inventory. Purchase all eight Moxxtails in the Up Over bar in Concordia to get the "Moxxi's Sampler" achievement. Then, exit out of the game without selecting the "Save and Quit" option by either signing out of your profile, going to the dashboard, or resetting the system. When you start the game again, you will still have the 80 Moonstones you spent on the Moxxtails.
Easy "Pancake Parlor" achievement.
You acquire the Stingray during a main mission in Triton Flats. While driving the Stingray, search for some low level enemies. Once two or three are gathered around you, press LB to lift the Stingray into the air, then press RB to perform a Ground Slam on them to get the "Pancake Parlor" achievement.
Easy "Super Secret Stash" achievement.
The mission to open Zarpedon's chest is in Pitys Fall and is named "The Secret Chamber". It becomes available after defeating Bosun during the "Intelligences Of The Artificial Persuasion" storyline mission (Chapter 5). You must find three Echos to open the door to Zarpedon's chest.
Easy "Who Needs Air?" achievement.
Purchase the Health Regen Drink from Moxxi's Bar in Concordia for 10 Moonstones to get 30 minutes of health regeneration. Then, go to any location without oxygen, and wait five minutes to get the "Who Needs Air?" achievement. You can also get the achievement using health regenerating class mods, a co-op partner reviving with oxygen, and playing as Wilhelm while using the Actionskill. Note: You cannot get this achievement while playing as Claptrap since he does not suffocate.
Accomplish the indicated achievement to get the corresponding number of Gamerscore points:

Why Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Isn't on PS4 or Xbox One.
The development cost for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, combined with the install base of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is the determining factor for keeping Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on the previous generation of consoles.
"It's not free to build a game for next-gen," said Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford. "When you're deciding where you're going to spend your resources, I think we're going to spend all of the attention we can on the game itself.
"And if you try to imagine the set of Borderlands players that have already upgraded [to Xbox One and PlayStation 4], that's not 100 percent." The difference in users who own newer consoles but do not have an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, Pitchford explained, "is so close to nil that you can't make a business rationalization around that."
Gearbox itself isn't working on Borderlands 3, but perhaps when Xbox One and PS4 finds their audiences ballooning, we'll see a next-gen Borderlands. Until then, The Pre-Sequel may have a future in downloadable content to hold you over.
IGN will have more on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel soon. Until then, don't miss our first impressions.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Review.
Two years ago, Borderlands 2 did a great job of fusing loose and fast shooting with surprisingly deep character customization. It did have its share of pacing blemishes though - blemishes I was really hoping that a new standalone game like Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel would fix. It doesn’t, but it does provide an entertaining story and a handful of successful gameplay additions that spice up its already excellent core of shooting and looting. This is, essentially, more of the Borderlands I love with just enough new twists to pull me back in, and mostly make up for the things the series still doesn’t get right.
The real star of the show in The Pre-Sequel is Jack. In Borderlands 2 he was perhaps the most gleefully sadistic, and effective video game villain since Final Fantasy 6's Kefka. Seeing his journey from hero to maniac is perhaps the biggest reason to make the 20-or-so-hour trek across Pandora’s moon, Elpis. Writer Anthony Burch shows a real knack for storytelling here, drawing a more sympathetic portrait of Jack without ever making him into the clichéd misunderstood villain. He's every bit the hilarious, ego-centric asshat here that we remember him as, and his excellently written and delivered dialogue is responsible for the lion's share of the laughs.
It’s a good thing too, because those laughs were often all there was to carry me through the long stretches of purposeless wandering around with barely anything to fight. This is part of a problem Borderlands has had since the beginning, and The Pre-Sequel hasn’t solved it. The inadequate waypoint system that doesn’t save you from going in circles while looking for your next objective, the boring trek back to your quest-giver at mission’s end… it’s all still here. The early hours on the moon were particularly trying, since everything is incredibly spread out, and every low-gravity jump takes seemingly forever. I just don’t want to walk towards a diamond on my mini-map for god knows how long to get to where the fun is.
And I really don’t want to go on a multi-step wild switch hunt to trigger said fun once I get there. The Pre-Sequel is cardinally guilty of this one. Apparently neither the Hyperion or Dahl corporations know how to make doors in space, because almost every single one you need to go through requires you to throw a breaker or manual override somewhere back in the area you just slogged through. In a game about shooting and looting, I should be doing those things almost constantly, but in The Pre-Sequel there were times when 10 or more minutes could easily pass without me doing much of either. Things do pick up in the latter half of the campaign, but this sort of buck-and-stall pacing has plagued the series for years, and it gets harder to forgive with each iteration.
But once The Pre-Sequel hits its stride, we get down to what Borderlands has always done best: the bullets start flying, the loot starts dropping, and joyful chaos ensues. The Pre-Sequel delivers a whole lot of that, starting with its four new playable characters and their positively nutty skill trees. Their action skills feel wildly different from one another, and from any of the vault hunters that have preceded them.
Wilhelm’s flying drone duo, Wolf and Saint, really stands out. Not only does one of them go on automated bombing runs against nearby enemies, but the other hangs back to heal him, or even your allies with the proper skill points invested. Nisha’s washes the screen in classic Western sepia, turning her into a godless, gunslinging killing machine for a short while, which is a bit more straightforward, but no less satisfying. Athena’s shield allows her to go all Captain America on fools, but Claptrap’s is by far the craziest, granting him different abilities depending on the situation at hand. Those who love a more anarchic, unpredictable approach to combat will get all the mayhem they’d like out of it.
In fact, everyone’s skill trees are flush with abilities that reward specific playstyles with powerful temporary effects, like mini achievements you unlock over and over. Borderlands’ mascot robot Claptrap, now playable for the first time, is the best example. I happen to be a compulsive reloader with a mild death wish, so his Boomtrap skill tree seems to have been made just for me. By rapidly reloading, I can get a variety of big buffs that have explosive results, but at the cost of some health and accuracy. Oh and I have chance of actually griefing my teammates with my action skill (serves you right for joining my game without an invite. jerk). Just reading some of the other characters’ high-level skills made me think, “How does THAT work?” A copy of whatever gun I’m holding appears in my off-hand? I turn into a walking nuclear bomb? I just had to try this stuff out.
The Pre-Sequel has a few other tricks up its sleeve too, and most of them work out. Not the new Stingray hovercraft – which handles like a wet mop with a ceiling fan strapped to it – but the new low-gravity mechanics are a success. Coming to grips with my elongated jumps took a while, but once it clicked, I started using my new freedom to deadly effect. It becomes so easy to put space between you and your enemies that sniping becomes a more viable option, and being able to bound over cover to slam down behind your foes’ cover makes getting up close and personal easier, and more satisfying than ever.
The new gearing options are a blast too. Freezing enemies solid with cold-based attacks and burning them to a crisp with the new laser-class weapons feels great, but just wait until you see some of the mods that come on the Oz kits that keep you breathing in space. Some grant you accuracy and damage bonuses while airborne, while others give you an entirely different set of buffs depending on whether you’re in vacuum or atmosphere. The Pre-Sequel is really generous with loot, too, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to shape your character in interesting ways. I mean, my Claptrap basically waltzes into the middle of groups of enemies and decimates them exclusively by reloading and dying. I can’t think of another game I can do that in.
Despite its tendency to make you jump through hoops before getting to the good stuff, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel delivers where I expect it to as a Borderlands fan. The new gear and low-gravity mechanics mixed with the zany skill trees makes for a fresh experience, and with Jack at the center driving the story forward, you get a deeper dive into the always entertaining, if well-traveled universe of Borderlands.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel successfully builds on the series' many strengths while repeating its pacing mistakes.
Jack’s Story Gearing options Low-G fun Wacky skills Pacing problems.

‘Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel’ May Get PS4 & Xbox One Release; New Gameplay Videos.
Listen, kiddos. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is coming to to PC and last-gen consoles later this year and we couldn’t be more excited about this next/previous chapter in the vibrant, violent Borderlands franchise. While sequels are often about adding more features, one thing that’s been dialled back quite a bit in this pre-sequel is the gravity, since the story takes place on the bouncy landscape of the moon.
2K Australia provided an early look at the new verticality offered in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in a demo at E3 2014 (which we got the chance to try out), and the studio has now released a full video of that demo accompanied by commentary from producers Joel Eschler and James Lopez. Along with the new jumping abilities, the demo highlights the versatile uses of oxygen, which is vital for the purposes of breathing while outside on the moon. Luckily it can be found in abundance.
If you don’t feel that the game’s producers offer a helpful enough introduction to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , however, you can always look to your old friend Handsome Jack. Actually it’s a younger version of Handsome Jack who narrates this “Tips for surviving on the moon” video, and the difference between this guy and the version that we met in Borderlands 2 is palpable. Speaking in an interview at E3 2014, voice actor Dameon Clarke explained that Handsome Jack hasn’t yet evolved into the villain he eventually becomes: “He’s a different person. When he’s being sincere, he’s being sincere. He’s not bulls**ting you every two seconds.”
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel isn’t currently set to release on the PS4 or Xbox One, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it never will. Quite a few games – including Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us – are making the leap from the last generation to the current one, and in an interview with GamereactorTV, 2K Australia studio head Tony Lawrence said that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel could get the same treatment if fans demand it loudly enough. Gearbox’s franchise director for Borderlands , Matt Armstrong, added:
“We’ll see how people react to the game, how much fun they have and whether or not everybody moves on to the next gen fully next year… Requiring people to buy new hardware to play the middle [game in] a trilogy … feels a little disingenuous.”
It makes sense that creating last-gen and PC versions of the game was prioritized, since those are the platforms that the current fanbase played the two previous games on and the game was built on the same engine as Borderlands 2 , meaning that there’s a limit to how much it could take advantage of the technological advancements offered by the new console generation.
Would you sign a petition to get Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel onto Xbox One and PS4, or are you happy to play it on the same platform as the previous two games?
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel releases October 14, 2014 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Cross-Save in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (UPDATED)
UPDATE: We’re still working to get the Loyalty Rewards described below up and running! In the meantime, redeem the following SHIFT codes for 25 Golden Keys in each game to help you get started!
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
You’ll need to restart the game to enter the codes. These codes will expire March 31.
There’s just over a week left until Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel make their next-gen debut in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on March 24 in North America and March 27 internationally!
If you’ve already played Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (or PS Vita for Borderlands 2), you’ll be able to transfer your save within the same console family. Here’s how it works.
To use a save from the previous generation versions of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, first you’ll need to download the patches enabling cross-save for Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which should be available for download later this week.
Once you have that patch downloaded, follow these steps:
Ensure all versions of the games are up to date with the latest patch (old-gen and new-gen) and you are connected to PlayStation Network or Xbox Live. From the main menu of the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of BL2 or BL:TPS, choose the “Cross Save” (PlayStation consoles) or “Cloud Save” (Xbox consoles), then “Upload Save” function. Once the save has been uploaded, choose “Cross Save” or “Cloud Save” then “Download Save” from the main menu of the PS4 / Xbox One Handsome Collection game for which you’re downloading the save.
IMPORTANT: Only one save may be uploaded at a time. If you have multiple saves to transfer, upload one save, then download it in the Handsome Collection, then repeat the process for successive saves.
The Xbox family of systems can only move saves from Xbox 360 to Xbox One and not the other way around. The PlayStation family of systems can upload / download saves from any system to any other PlayStation system. Think of PS3 / PS4 / PSV as a triangle, and saves can move in any direction (Vita saves are only applicable to BL2 and not BL:TPS). Uploading a save does not remove it from the original system, it only creates a copy of the save on the network. Players will need the day 1 patch for the Handsome Collection in order to download saves. Players will also need the most recent patch installed for PS3 / Xbox 360 in order to upload saves.
When you transfer your save, here’s what comes along with it:
Character level and all mission progress Badass Points (all of these will transfer, but you’ll get to re-spend them) Backpack inventory Weapon slots Cash and Eridum/Moonstones All unlocked character customizations (heads/skins) ***note that customizations obtained from Telltale’s Poker Night 2 will be added in a patch following launch*** Items stored in the bank in Sanctuary.
Note that items stored in Claptrap’s Secret Stash in Borderlands 2 will NOT transfer along with your save, so be sure to move anything you can’t live without to the bank. Trophies and Achievements will also not transfer over and will need to be re-earned.
Your Golden Key balance will also not transfer. However, as a reward for playing Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, all players will receive the following bonuses upon signing into SHiFT in The Handsome Collection for the first time:
75 Golden Keys A healthy chunk of Badass Rank Bonus character customizations.
75 Golden Keys A healthy chunk of Badass Rank Bonus unique weapons and character customizations.
Note: These bonus Badass points can only be earned once and are redeemed instantly upon entering the game. We recommend using the Cross/Cloud Save functionality prior to starting a game in The Handsome Collection to transfer over your account’s Badass Rank. This will ensure that bonus Rank is awarded in addition to existing Badass Rank.
Borderlands the Pre-Sequel Golden Keys.
Looking for other SHiFT Codes for another Gearbox Software game ?

About Golden Keys.
Just like Borderlands 2, the Pre-Sequel is also using the SHIFT system to add in-game bonuses with in the Game. With Borderlands the Pre-Sequel you are able to add Golden keys to your Vault Hunters inventory. With these Golden Keys you are able to open a Golden chest in the center of Concordia, the games main story hub city. If you unlock the chest with one of your Golden Keys you will get some quality loot. The items inside are always random but mostly rare items will be given.
How do i redeem SHIFT codes ?
On the main menu of Borderlands the Pre-Sequel there is a “extras” menu. Here you can select “SHIFT CODES”, this will prompt a menu for you to enter the codes in order to acquire the Golden Keys.
Once you have found Concordia the main hub town in Borderlands the Pre-Sequel. In the center of the town is a SHIFT vending machine. Here you can add your “SHIFT CODES” on the second tab.
Where are my Golden Keys ?
Once you redeemed your SHIFT CODES the given amount of Golden Keys will be available on the first menu tab of the SHIFT vending machine in Concordia. You can grab the keys with any character that’s able to reach Concordia.
If you encounter some sort of issues there might be a solution to your problem in the knowledge base or you can submit a ticket .

Borderlands Xbox One/PS4: Here's How To Transfer Your Saves.
Gearbox publishes set of instructions for how to carry your existing Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel saves forward to The Handsome Collection.

Ahead of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection's release next week, developer Gearbox Software has posted a detailed set of instructions for how to migrate your existing saves to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game.
The Handsome Collection features remastered versions of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. If you've played either of those games on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (or PlayStation Vita for Borderlands 2), you will be able to move your saves to The Handsome Collection.
The one major catch is that you can only transfer saves within the same console family. This means, Xbox 360 to Xbox One is supported, but not Xbox 360 to PS4.
A PC version of The Handsome Collection has not been announced.
To bring your save forward to The Handsome Collection, you'll first need to download a patch for Borderlands 2 or The Pre-Sequel that enables cross-save functionality. This update should arrive later in the week.
After you've downloaded the patch, you need to follow the steps listed below, spelled out by Gearbox. If you're running into trouble, Gearbox recommends visiting its support site.
Character level and all mission progress Badass Points (all of these will transfer, but you’ll get to re-spend them) Backpack inventory Weapon slots Cash and Eridum/Moonstones All unlocked character customizations (heads/skins) ***note that customizations obtained from Telltale's Poker Night 2 will be added in a patch following launch*** Items stored in the bank in Sanctuary.
Note that items stored in Claptrap's Secret Stash in Borderlands 2 will NOT transfer along with your save, so be sure to move anything you can't live without to the bank.

UNDER RATED! PLENTY OF FUN!
the game starts out slow but picks up. There is fun to be had. Many gems to be found, numerous nods to other games and movies. Very under ratedl.

good game but repetitive.
the area didnt feel big enough and way too much back tracking. overall it was fun borderlands is an amazing series. but it needed to be about 4 maybe 5 times larger. it is a presequel so it makes sense its only this size and hopefully borderlands 3 is huge and makes itself a diamond among stones. overall great game and great job.

Fairly Good game.
It isn't to bad, just don't walk into the game expecting it to be as good as the other two borderlands. Also one thing some of my friends and I noted was that it isn't nearly as fun the second or third time through, where you could replay the other borderlands a ton.

Could have been better.
I loved the Borderland series, finished 1& 2 and played over 100 hours, so I was very excited for the pre-sequel. But the space mechanic just made this game feel like a grind fest. Retracing your steps too many times for quests, every enemy seemingly having shield and cloaking abilities, faliing off a ledge to an invisible enemy, no memorable boss fights, and the story is fun at times but meanders. It's just mediocre overall.

This is one great game.
I have been palying Xbox since 2004 and they have done a great job, this Borderlands is a fun and entainment that a lot of games don't have. I have told freinds to try this game and they are happy they did. I love the whole Borderlands line.

Terrible, greedy gimmick by microsoft.
Released as free for a few days then taken away to be sold as another overpriced and rehashed lastgen bundle. They cant even give us real games with gold, they give us phone games. Why one of the richest companies feels the need to screw it's customers all the time is beyond me. Aside from that, this game is insultingly boring and tedious. Wouldn't pay to play this at all. It's basically a wave survival game that pretends it has story driven play.
