As many of you know, Gamescom is currently underway, and with it comes many new and exciting announcements. One such announcement came out of Crytek earlier today: the brand-new CryEngine. This new, state-of-the-art game engine promises to usher in a new era of games featuring top notch graphics. Most of you have probably seen the current CryEngine 3 in action, as it was released in 2009 and ran some of the most advanced games in terms of graphical quality, such as Crysis 3 . This updated version of CryEngine will be dropping the number from its title; it will simply be known as CryEngine, not CryEngine 4. Supported platforms were revealed alongside the engine's announcement; the all-new CryEngine will support the current generation with the likes of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and the next generation with the likes of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and (in case you were doubting) Wii U. Crytek confirms the CryEngine 3 will support Microsoft's recently unveiled Xbox One. The studio announced in an official statement its engine is "already primed for Xbox One development," adding that Crytek technology is "equipped to start creating software for the system now."
