While a new game is not likely at the moment, there is a chance that the new 2017 WRC cars could be joining Dirt Rally in future. Forza Horizon 3. Forza Horizon 3 is still fairly new having only been released back in September 2016 and will still form a large presence in the gaming community throughout 2017. A new expansion title was released on December 13 dubbed Blizzard Mountain, it basically allows players with the Blizzard Pass to drive on snow as they try to become kings of the Mountain. FH3 raised the bar with a larger map, 350 cars and an array of customizations including kits from tuning houses like Liberty Walk and Rocket Bunny. Developer: Playground Games. F1 2016 was a massive improvement over any other game from the franchise, the realism of the driving sim was improved thanks to more real life approaches that were added to the game. Unlike previous games, F1 2016 featured 10 full seasons and all 21 circuits from the 2016 season including the street circuit of Baku. Additionally, new teams like Renault and Haas were present. That said, the next installment should carry on with the same improvements once it’s released on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The release date is still unknown, but it should be much later in 2017 given that the current game was only released a few months back in August 2016. While the current installment is much more refined than previous titles, the 2017 game could benefit from enhanced physics and introduction of new dynamics such as wind, more mechanical failures as well as increased freedom with tires. 3. Project Cars 2. Picking up from where the first title left, Project Cars 2 promises to provide gamers with an array of tracks picked from 50 locations around the world. They will have dynamic weather and time of day, over 200 tracks to choose from. Additionally, Project Cars 2 will have multiple racing disciplines ranging from Rallycross to Hillclimbs. Over 200 cars will be available including banned racecars. A release date has not been officially set but it could be anywhere during the second quarter of 2017. More importantly, the game will be available on PC, PS4, xBox One and Steam OS. Developer: Slightly Mad Studios. Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment. Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One and Steam OS. 2. Forza Motorsport 7. It’s no surprise that Forza Motorsport 7 will be joining the franchise soon, nothing much has been revealed about it but given the history of FM releases, we could be looking at an autumn 2017 release date. It will be the first game from the series to be released on PS4, and will also be available on PlayStation VR albeit in a special “Tour Mode” only. Though its successor has arrived, PlayStation 3 lives on, and actually provides a staggering amount of exclusive content in 2014 considering how long in the tooth it is. Below are the biggest 30 PS3 games coming to the console in 2014, covering a wide array of genres. What did we miss? What would you include in the list? When Gearbox released Aliens: Colonial Marines in 2013, the once promising-looking game failed to live up to any of its pre-release hype. Colonial Marines was an unmitigated disaster, and naturally soured gamers’ appetites for more Aliens. Yet, here we are, fresh on the heels of a new Aliens-related announcement. And it’s. well. it sounds pretty cool, actually. Alien: Isolation – which isn’t only on PS4, but on Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC as well – takes place a full 15 years after the events of the Alien film. You play as Amanda, Ripley’s daughter, as she investigates the mystery surrounding her famous mother’s demise. SEGA has put The Creative Assembly on the project, veterans of, among other series, the Total War franchise on PC. So there’s reason to have hope. With the original Lords of Shadow in 2011, the Castlevania series took an interesting left turn. It wasn’t the first time the franchise jumped from 2D to 3D, or tried to do something different. It’s just the first time a untraditional Castlevania game succeeded at what it tried to do. Lords of Shadow was a great game – one heavily-inspired not only by the established lore of the series but by other series like God of War and Devil May Cry – and it’s exciting that we’re finally going to get its sequel. Without getting too spoilery, let’s just say that Lords of Shadow’s ending – and what you discover during it – greatly influences the plot and characters of the sequel. That’s not too much of a surprise in and of itself, but what is surprising is how much the sequel builds on the original, and even changes things up. Unlike the original, which was somewhat rigid and linear, Lords of Shadow 2 is non-linear, RPG-centric, and above all else, very long. We can’t wait to finally jump in. Simply hearing about Child of Light conjures up a very specific phrase: “they don’t make ‘em like they used to.” And it’s true. It’s not every day you hear about a side-scrolling, platforming-centric RPG like Child of Light, one that emphasizes difficult gameplay just as much as it does leveling-up, statistical growth, and the discovery of new weapons, items, and other types of gear. But what’s perhaps even more interesting about Child of Light is where it’s coming from: Ubisoft Montreal. That’s right, a studio that’s best-known for the Far Cry franchise, some Tom Clancy games, and – you guessed it – Assassin’s Creed will be able to spread its wings on something decidedly different, something it simply hasn’t had the chance to work on before. And we’re super excited to see the end result. I’ve seen CounterSpy twice. Once, I saw it at E3, and was only allowed to look, and not actually play myself. When I finally went hands-on with it months later at Gamescom, I understood why I wasn’t allowed to touch it. The game was in rough shape. So why is it on this list? That’s easy: CounterSpy was supposed to come out in 2013, and it’s gone off the radar to be fixed-up and bettered for its release. And that’s good news, because CounterSpy is an incredibly promising project. CounterSpy, at its core, is a side-scrolling spy-action game that’s as much about exploration as it is about combat. While it definitely invokes a sort of Metroidvania feel, it’s really its own game, one rooted in the espionage and intrigue of the Cold War, when it seemed like we were just a moment away from nuclear destruction every day of the week. So consider CounterSpy’s inclusion on this list a hope that the game lives up to what it’s capable of. Prepare to die. That’s the original Dark Soul’s tagline, and when you played the game, you realized rather quickly it was an apt warning. Dark Souls launched in 2011 and was a spiritual successor to the PS3-exclusive Demon’s Souls, but it was only when Dark Souls came out – and reached players who didn’t necessarily own a PlayStation 3 – that the entire hardcore, brutally difficult mantra of the experience truly proliferated and resonated. With Dark Souls II, you’re getting more of the same, and frankly, fans of the series wouldn’t have it any other way. More ridiculous difficulty, more unforgiving enemies, and more surprises around every corner: Dark Souls II will likely be one of the most challenging game released in 2014 on any platform. It may be disappointing that Dark Souls II isn’t on next-gen consoles (at least, not yet), but look at it this way… at least it’ll ring out the old generation with a considerable bang. There are few games – if any – coming out in 2014 that have as high expectations attached to it as Destiny. Destiny comes from Bungie – the studio that brought the world Halo (and Marathon before that) – so it should come as no surprise that gamers the world ‘round are expecting big, big things from it. The good news is that from everything we’ve seen of Destiny since its accidental reveal in November of 2012, there’s cause to be excited. Destiny can be played and enjoyed alone, but the fact of the matter is it’s built to be played with others online. There are undertones of Borderlands in Destiny, with its slant on being always-connected and always-progressing, but it looks far darker, grittier, and more serious. Oh, and did you know that this will be the first game Bungie has released for a PlayStation platform since Oni way back in 2001? You may not have heard of Valhalla Game Studios – Devil’s Third is the developer’s very first project – but you’ve almost certainly heard of the man who founded the studio. Tomonobu Itagaki, who’s responsible for, among other series, Dead or Alive, as undertaken this new project, and you may be surprised to learn that it’s a third-person shooter, which is definitely out of Itagaki’s wheelhouse. Or so we thought. Some people are skeptical about Devil’s Third, and for good reason. Itagaki left Tecmo way back in 2008, founded Valhalla soon thereafter, and announced Devil’s Third itself in 2010. It was originally supposed to come out in 2012, fell off the radar, and more recently remerged as a game promised for release in 2014 (Itagaki claims it’s about 80 percent complete). Until then, we’ll have to wait and see if it’s quality will match up with its long development time. But we’ll remain optimistic. The Dragon Age franchise didn’t exactly start out with a bang when Dragon Age: Origins launched in 2009. Next to BioWare’s epic spacefaring RPG Mass Effect, Origins came off more as a b-team effort than anything approaching the critically-acclaimed heights of Commander Shephard’s adventures. But unlike Mass Effect, which was rooted in a technologically-advanced future, Dragon Age took things back to a bygone era, and there was clearly promise in what it was trying to do. Dragon Age II, which launched in early 2011, attempted to rectify some issues with the original, and when Dragon Age: Inquisition launches later in 2014, it appears that it might just deliver on the promise of the original. Running on DICE’s gorgeous and powerful Frostbite 2 engine, Inquisition brings players back to the world of Thedas, providing for a rich, lush world to explore, side quests to complete, and locations to discover. You know… all the stuff RPG fans crave. Out of all of the games on this list, the fact that Drakengard 3 is leaving Japan and coming west is perhaps the biggest surprise. In Japan, Drakengard is known as Dragon Dragoon, and the third game is, interestingly, a prequel to the series’ original entry. But it keeps intact the established themes of the series, as well as the game’s action-heavy mechanics folded-up as an RPG. Drakengard 3 undoubtedly looks great – and fans of action-RPGs have something to look forward to with it – but the story behind the game is perhaps what’s most fascinating about it (well, at least until we actually get to play it). It’s been long-in-development, and it nearly never came out at all. In fact, its development is intimately intertwined with a very similar game called Nier. You should go read about its interesting story sometime! Many look back at Final Fantasy X on PlayStation 2 as the last great, pure Final Fantasy game before Square Enix started changing things up with its MMOs, XI and XIV, and its decidedly different takes on the core franchise with XII and XIII. That may or may not be true, but one thing is readily evident: people are hungry for Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD. The collection outsold Final Fantasy XIII-3 in Japan, and it may just do the same thing in the west come March. This HD collection, as the name suggests, combined Final Fantasy X with its sequel, all the while giving both games a pleasant high-def gloss and precious PlayStation Network Trophies. Better yet, you don’t have to pay a premium to get both games, as they come together in one rather affordable set. People have been waiting for this collection to come out for some time.
