Warner Bros. has revealed a number of different special editions of Mortal Kombat X, all of which are available to pre-order now on Amazon. The Kollector's Edition by Coarse, Kollector's Edition and Limited Editions will only be available for PS4 and Xbox One, while the Premium Edition is available for all platforms. First up, The Kollector's Edition by Coarse costs £100 / $150 and comes with a Scorpion figurine and accompanying Certificate of Authenticity signed by artists Sven Waschk and Mark Landwehr. An in-game skin for the ninja based on the figure will also be included. Finally, you'll get the Kombat Pack, which includes four additional unnamed fighters who will apparently be a mix of older Kombatants and guest characters. If you're wondering why the Scorpion statue looks a little bit different, it's because it was redesigned by Coarse, which has extensive experience creating collectible figurines. Easy "DIE WILL YOU" achievement. Select Kung Lao because each of his throws result in eighteen hits. After you remove a Boss's armor, dash or run to him, and perform a throw, then repeat the process. Alternately, block and punish Boss attacks. For example, when countering Quan Chi's Teleport, upper-block, then punish with a throw. Choose the Full Auto version of Jacqui Briggs. Use her Hand Cannon move to remove a Boss's armor and inflict five hits each if it reaches a non-blocking Boss. Repeat it until time expires or you die. Her X-Ray also results in fifteen hits. Easy "Disco" achievement. Play as Kotal Kahn using any variation in Practice mode. Cast a God Ray (Down, Right, B), then stand in the God Ray, and flip stance at least five times (LT). Easy "Hara Kiri" achievement. You must play as Kotal Kahn using any variation. There is a special attack called "Blood Offering". It takes away 10% of your health, but increases your damage output for a short period of time. You must use this move to kill yourself when your health is below 10% (Right, Down, Left, B). Start a match on the Very Easy difficulty. Let the enemy attack you until your health is really low, and then kill yourself with the Blood Offering special attack. Make sure not to use this special attack too early, as it has a long cooldown time. Then, simply win the match to get the "Hara Kiri" achievement. Easy "Keep It Secret" achievement. Fight through the Premier Living Tower until you reach your sixth opponent. Win that fight with a "Flawless Victory", and perform either a fatality or brutality at the end. You can restart the match if you take a hit -- and you will not be disqualified. After completing the match with those requirements, you will start the "Secret Battle" against Reptile and get the "Keep It Secret" achievement. Easy "Knockout" achievement. While playing Living Towers, you will eventually unlock the Juggle modifier. Use it to lower gravity, which will make juggles easier and allows an easy 10-hit combo when you corner an opponent. Perform a 10-hit combo with all 24 characters in the game (excluding DLC characters) to get the "Knockout" achievement. You can easily perform a 10-hit combo with all characters in Practice mode. Always use X-Ray attacks (can be used infinitely in Practice mode) to get 5-15 hits. With some characters, you will only need to activate the X-Ray attack for it to count as 10+ hits. All required button combinations are shown in the video. Make sure that you are using the same character variation that is shown in the video. For most combos it does not matter, but some special moves are not available with certain character variations. Easy "Need A Doctor" achievement. Perform all 25 X-Ray attacks in the game (excluding DLC characters) to get the "Need A Doctor" achievement. You can easily perform all 25 X-Ray attacks in Practice mode since you always have a full super meter. Each character has one X-Ray attack. They are activated by pressing LT + RT. Note: You only need to use the standard character, and not any of the DLC characters, to get the achievement. Easy "No Loyalty" achievement. Set up your Kombat Kard with FXP buffed items. Start a two player Kustom Kombat match played solo with the Brutal Kombat modifier selected. Win the match with a brutality, then repeat the process as many times as needed. Easy "Not Dead Yet" achievement. There are 13 death animations in the "Test Your Might" tower. When you fail a challenge, you will get killed. The death sequence is completely random. You can get all of them in the very first challenge. Simply press RT when the challenge begins to fail immediately. Retry the challenge over and over again until you get all 13 death animations to get the "Not Dead Yet" achievement. It takes approximately 20 minutes to see every death animation once (depending on how lucky you get). Easy "Terrifying Encounter" achievement. You can confront a beast within the Krypt after opening the first gate in the Krypt. Occasionally while exploring the Krypt, you will be attacked by animals. This will trigger a short QTE event requiring you to press a button to fend off the attacker. Walk along the right side of the graveyard after the starting area to get attacked by a small wolf. Alternatively, enter the tunnels on the right to get attacked by spiders. Easy "Trolling" achievement. At the end of a match when you can perform a fatality, you must duck 30 times very quickly instead of performing the fatality to get the "Trolling" achievement. You only have a few seconds to do this before the match automatically ends. Easy "Tower Warrior" achievement. Traditional "Test Your Might" towers will increment your progress. Go through all characters, and skip those you already have done a tower with. Accomplish the indicated achievement to get the corresponding number of Gamerscore points: Tower Kompetitor (10 points): Complete a single Tower. by Angelo M. D'Argenio. E3 2014 gave us our first look at Mortal Kombat X (actually pronounced Mortal Kombat Ecks) the latest in the Mortal Kombat series. There we gave you a very quick rundown of the game and its systems, but we only had access to five characters. Since then, more and more characters have been revealed, giving us a look at what the final game is likely to look like. Let’s go over what we know so far. First of all, the core mechanic of Mortal Kombat X is a brand new style system. When you pick a character, you also pick one of three styles. These styles determine how the character fights. While the character’s basic normals and strings stay the same, along with a core set of special moves, style can add new normal, strings, and special moves to a character’s repertoire. For example, Scorpion can choose to specialize in fire, demon summoning, and dual swords. When using his dual sword style, he gains access to different normal strings that increase his combo opportunities. Using fire gives him new projectiles while demon summoning gives him mobility and spacing tools. Aside from that, much of the game plays like Mortal Kombat 9, with a few small adjustments to system mechanics. We now know all the fighting styles for all of the characters shown at E3. Sub-Zero can use Cryomancer, Unbreakable, and Grandmaster styles. Cryomancer gives him access to new ice techniques, like the classic ice from the ceiling blast from Mortal Kombat 3; Unbreakable gives him defensive techniques, like ice walls and clones; and Grandmaster allows him to make ice weapons, like ice swords and daggers. Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage, and is a fusion of Cage’s own Hollywood Bravado and, oddly enough, Stryker’s hardcore police and military vibe. Her three styles are Hollywood, Spec-Ops, and Brawler. Hollywood makes her play more like Johnny, showboating, nutpunching, and using mid-air attacks. Spec-Ops give her access to grenades and missile strikes in order to control space. Finally, Brawler opens up her hand to hand combat options. As for the new characters from E3, D’Vorrah, the insect queen, can use the Brood Mother, Swarm Queen, or Venomous styles. Brood Mother allows her to set out crawling insects that operate independent from her, giving her interesting frame traps and new ways to continue pressure. Swarm Queen is all about controlling space with things like a swarm vortex or wasp grenade. Finally, Venomous is all about debuffing the opponent by using attacks that poison them, slow them, and so on. Kotal Kahn, descendant of Shao Kahn, is a Aztec style god that can buff himself in many different ways. Appropriately, his styles are War God, Sun God, and Blood God. War God is the simplest style, as it gives him a huge weapon to extend his reach. It doesn’t really interact with his buffs much, but it does increase his footsie game. Sun God is based around being defensive and healing himself. As he buffs himself he gets more powerful, and can choose to trade in these buffs for healing. Blood God is the exact opposite. It allows him to trade his own life in order to deal more damage to the opponent. It also allows him to put totems on the ground that produce lasting effects. Ferra and Tor were the final characters of the E3 build, a giant brute with a tiny child riding on his back. Their three styles focus on grappling, brawling, and using Ferra as a sort of trap character. In the trap style, Ferra can attack independently of Torr, allowing you greater freedom in your setups and mixups. In the grappling style, Torr plays a lot like a traditional grappler, trying to scare the opponent into blocking and taking advantage of the situation when they do. Finally, Torr can take Ferra completely off his back and instead act as a brawler type of character, with high damaging moves with frames of super armor on them. Several characters have been announced since then, including Raiden, Quan Chi, Kano, and Goro. Unfortunately, details about these characters are a little bit more sparse. Raiden’s styles have been decently detailed. They are Thunder God, Displacer, and Storm Lord. Thunder God Raiden is perhaps his most straightforward style, implementing new electric projectiles and attacks. Displacer raider, however, focuses on teleports. Some of his teleports are so fast that he can put them in between combos in order to open up new link opportunities. Finally, Storm Lord Raiden is all about controlling space. He can place balls of electricity on the screen that don’t do damage on their own, but if an opponent steps between two, they will fire a bolt of lightning that shocks the opponent and holds them in place. Quan Chi’s three styles are Warlock, Summoner, and Sorcerer, which don’t tell you a lot about how they differ by name alone. Quan Chi’s sorcerer style buffs his projectile moves and gives him tools to control space, such as the ability to summon pillars of energy from the ground. The warlock style is perhaps my favorite style in the game, as it basically gives you a portal gun. Quan Chi can open up a portal near him, and attack through it to hit the opponent, or can throw an opponent through a portal behind him and have him come out plummeting to the ground. Finally Quan Chi’s summoner variation allows him to summon a bat that can attack independently from him, increasing his combo length and overall granting him better pressure in combat. Kano is returning and even more of him is cybernetic this time around. His three styles are Cutthroat, Cybernetic, and Commando. His cutthroat style is all about melee. His attack power goes up across the board and he gains new techniques with his knives in order to keep the pressure on. Cybernetic Kano focuses more on ranged attacks, with eye lasers and grenades to supplement his melee capabilities. When Kano is played in commando style, he actually becomes more of a response character. He has a number of grappling moves as well as high and low counter moves, making the opponent scared to both block and attack. Unfortunately Goro’s styles haven’t been revealed yet, but we do know that he will come as a pre-order bonus. That’s all the info we have for you right now. Tips for Mortal Kombat X. Selecting a character in Mortal Kombat X can be a daunting task. Make sure you check out all three fighting style variants before you decide on a character. They can vary considerably and even feel like a completely different character. For instance, you may not like Kitana's Royal Storm fighting variant, but her Mournful variant is so different it essentially turns her into Jade from MK9. Mortal Kombat X is a very different game compared to MK9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us. Even if you're a Mortal Kombat veteran, it will take time to get adjusted to the game and your character of choice. Spend some time in the Training Mode to get your bearings before you venture into multiplayer battles. Meter management is extremely important in MKX. In addition to the standard meter that controls your Enhanced Special Moves and X-Ray attacks, there's a stamina meter below your health bar that controls Breakers and running. For example, a Breaker requires two stocks of your standard meter, plus at least half of your stamina meter. Keep an eye on your meters so you know what tools you have available to you throughout the match. There are a lot of new characters in Mortal Kombat X. Even if you don't like playing as some of the new characters, head into Training Mode and go through all of their fighting style variations. The best way to defend against a new character is to play them so you know their strengths and weaknesses. Frame data is displayed in your character's move list. While you don't need to know frame data to be good at Mortal Kombat X, it can be very helpful. At the very least look for the Block Advantage section of the frame data. If the Block Advantage on an attack is higher than -7, the attack can be punished by most characters if it's blocked. Try to avoid using attacks like this unless you cancel into a safe special move. One of the best ways to hit an opponent is by finding at least one attack that hits low and one attack that hits overhead. You can then mix-up between these two attacks and keep your opponent guessing how to block. In the best case scenario, you want to find an overhead or low attack that leads into a combo. Most characters have at least one enhanced special move that has armor. This means that it will go through at least one of your opponent's attacks when timed correctly. These attacks can help you get out of corner pressure or simply interrupt an opponent's attack so you can start your own combo. Practice wakeup attacks in Training Mode to help you get off the ground safely when an opponent is pressuring you. Most enhanced attacks that have armor work very well as wakeup attacks to get you out of sticky situations. Practice your wakeup attack timing in Training Mode by recording the AI opponent knocking you down, then attacking as you stand up. If the AI attack beats your wakeup attack, either your enhanced wakeup attack doesn't have armor (not all characters have armor attacks) or your timing was off.
