A free demo for horror game Outlast 2 launched today on PC and PlayStation 4, letting players sample the upcoming sequel before its release next year.
You don't have forever to download the demo, however, as it will only be available until November 1. The demo will continue to be playable after November 1. An Xbox One version of the Outlast 2 demo was also announced, but it's not showing up on Xbox.com or through the console itself. A Red Barrels representative told GameSpot the demo will be out for Xbox One soon.
You play as Blake Langermann in Outlast 2. You and your wife, Lynn, are investigative journalists who are looking into the "impossible murder" of a pregnant woman. The game is set in the Arizona, where you will uncover some horrible things and a "corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do."

Outlast 2 is developed by independent studio Red Barrels, which also made the first game. The studio was founded by developers who worked on the Price of Persia, Uncharted, and Assassin's Creed franchises.
Originally planned to launch at the end of 2016, Outlast 2 was recently delayed to early 2017.
"This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we've built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game [whose] limits haven't been tested to the extreme," Red Barrels said about the delay.

Great Game!
I've been waiting for this game since 2014 and it definitely lives up to the original! Can't decide which Outlast is better, but that's because they both have very different feels and settings. They're both on my top 5 horror games! Go buy this now!

Astounding Horror Game!
I can't remember the last time I had so much fun playing something! By far the scariest horror game I've ever played, and probably the most interesting game I've played in general. I really did enjoy the story, far surpassing that of the original or Whistleblower, and it only gets more horrific and terrifying as it continues! The various new environments in the Arizona wilderness are a refreshing change from the dank corridors of Mount Massive Asylum. Numerous mechanics have been added, such as crawling, swimming, hiding in barrels, a higher-res camera (equipped with a microphone and better night vision), bandages, stamina, wrestling away from smaller enemies, etc. The protagonist this time around is Blake Langermann, who must fight for his life while searching for his wife, Lynn, and suffer increasingly real hallucinations regarding a childhood friend, Jessica Grey. The villains are very creepy and well designed, and I struggle to choose a favorite. I love and recommend this game! ❤👍

I loved the first outlast and i love this one! The atmosphere is way different because you are in the woods and its a very different feel. Also the witch lady is crazy scary. Ya ive ruined a few pairs of underwear but its worth it! Amazing amazing game! Hope Red Barrels comes out with a DLC for it!!

Been waiting for this one. loved the original and Whistleblower. Outlast 2 sticks to the same gameplay style while adding some cool new features and improving all the old ones. An absolute must have for survival horror fans. Thank you Red Barrels for this release. Another One 🔥

Best Horror Franchise Ever.
Outlast 2 has mastered fear & suspense. Darkness and twisted visions of the macabre await the stalwart gamer. Your blood will run cold. The room you're in will feel like there is not enough air in it. Palms will sweat, muscles will tense. Those without the heart & stomach won't make it to the end. Those that do will have some lasting memories to say the least. some things cannot be unseen. Great writing & dialogue, darkly beautiful landscapes, adrenaline fueled & mind bending scenes. what more could a horror lover ask for?

The Terror is Back.
Outlast is an awesome game so it's no surprise the second is just as good. They've upped the difficulty, the scares and the fun in this one. Added more ways to get around, changed the camera a bit, you can get tired now and above all, the suspense of what will happen next will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you love horror and survival games, you'll love this.

Just one problem.
I can't get the stains out of my underwe. erhm. you get the picture. This game is a great sequel that has improved almost everything that made the orignal so scary. OL2 is a must buy for horror fans.

TOP TIER HORROR GAME.
In a time where good horror games are few n far in between, Outlast 2 sets the bar for what the genre should be. Sound effects set an atmosphere n tone that sits with the best of them, games like Alien Isolation, Dead Space, Resident Evil 7. Solid graphics, not quite blockbuster status but pretty close, specially considering it's not a full price game which is awesome cause it's so rare that good quality games release without a $60 price tag. Gameplay does a good job keeping u on ur toes being u have no way to defend other then running n hiding while relying on batteries u find scattered n hidden for ur cameras' night vision to see in the dark which definitely adds to the tension. All in all if ur looking for a good scary game that's a change of pace from ur run of the mill shooter, then def pick up Outlast 2. Plenty of jump scares n gore to satisfy any horror junkies needs lol. If u haven't played part 1 that one's great too👌👌. get on it!

Def worth the wait.
First Outlast blew my mind. Perfect mix of scares and adrenaline pumping scenes that kept me coming back for more. This game does not disappoint. Fully lives up to the hype. Developers stuck to a winning formula and seemed to improve on everything. Outlast 2 is scary as **** and worth every penny❤

Exactly what it's suppose to be.
Great new chapter in a long life of outlast, i hope. So much better than the first, visually and of course sound. Controls felt good to me, love the water and new ways too hide and run. Thumbs up.

The sequel to 2013's horror game Outlast now has a release date. Outlast II will arrive for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in just over a month, landing on April 25 for all platforms.
The game will be available in physical and digital formats, though pricing has yet to be confirmed.
Also launching on April 25 will be the Outlast Trinity, which is a physical bundle that comes with Outlast and its Whistleblower expansion, along with Outlast II.
All of this news was announced on Twitter today; here's how the reveal went down (via GameZone):

As fun as it was to play this game, it didn’t come without a few annoying elements here and there. Darkness in the game acts as its own entity and often times will frustrate the hell out of you, but the urge to dredge on will captivate you. The storyline is very creative and will keep you interested to the very end. To truly immerse yourself in the game, play it late at night in complete darkness. If you have surround sound, turn it up, I dare you. … Expand.

In Outlast 2 you play as a cameraman working with your wife doing your investigative journalism thing, getting to the bottom of the possible murder of a pregnant woman.
And then your helicopter crashes, you can’t find your wife, and you spend the rest of the game trying to find her…
Outlast 2 is more open feeling than the claustrophobic original…
While at the same time much more linear feeling.
But I found it to be a lot more stressful…
Instead of 4 hours, Outlast 2 clocks in at a little less than 7…
Which felt to be a bit of a mistake.
It feels like it drags on forever, mostly thanks to the games awful pacing…
This is still la survival horror game, collect batteries for your camera, use that camera to record things and as a light source, collect bandages to heal yourself when you’re hurt and get through everything the game throws at you..
Hide under beds, and in barrels and lockers.
But the game is missing those tense moments the original had…
I feel outlast 2 throws way too many enemies at your way too often…
This is where the pacing issue comes in.
You never have down time, you never have time to soak in the environment and let it creep you out… because beyond the first chapter the game is throwing multiple enemies for you to deal with around every corner. and it isn’t tense or scary, it’s annoying.
Getting through sections of the game is frustrating.
You never feel like stealth is a real option.
It never really feels like it works…
Enemey detection is way too sensitive and I felt like they always knew where I was.
and I felt like I had to trigger enemies, make them chase me, and run around the map to get past sections…
And some points in the game you’re forced to deal with situations like this.
and it just never stops, making the game feel like a chore, especially in the final few chapters..
The game is gorgeous though, and creepy.
it’s full of jump scares and surprises, especially with the random transitions between your location in this religious cult and a catholic school…
The game never becomes predictable.
And is definitely worth seeing through to the end,
I don’t want to set any expectations, but I’ll just say it’s better than the original outlasts ending.
Outlast 2 has a lot going for it, as does the series in general.
I just wish it stuck to the one enemy at a time formula the original had. it made moments tense.
instead of throwing multiple enemies at you that you cant deal with and never letting you breathe…
Again, I was more annoyed by outlast 2 than I was scared by it…
The Demo was a more enjoyable experience for me than the actual game.

We will start with sneaking and investigating, during this phase you'll be sneaking around avoiding detection looking for clues and how to progress to the next area, these area's aren't terribly tense or scary, if you've played outlast 1 you know what to do, turn around, run far away, hide, let the dumb AI give up and try again, there will only be normal enemies during this part so it’s not terribly difficult, and because most of the enemies are redneck’s it’s not terribly scary either.

A real madhouse.
when i first found out i wasn't exactly interested but after hearing games with gold was adding outlast to this month i said why not give it a try and i must say this game takes horror to a new level your surrounded by the insane and all you have is a camera and your wits annnnnnd that's it you have nothing to fight back its run hide or die now for the horror factor it takes psychological and fear of the insane and made you the only sane person to figure out the mystery of the asylum but overall with the atmosphere gruesome character design and scares throughout the whole game outlast has proven to stand as a fantastic game for us horror fans.

OUT. STANDING.
This game is very intense, you often find youself in tight situations inside of lockers. under beds etc with menacing deformed psychopaths hunting you down, so in no way shape or form is this game for those who are claustrophobic, but i'll tell you this, it had my heart thumping in my jaw but I kept pushing and surving through this masterpiece of horror feels so rewarding that it rewired my brain to finally, actually love horror games now. with that said, I'm so greatful that this games developers realased this for free last month, because if they didn't I would not be so excited to give them my money as fast as possible for it's prequel OUTLAST WISTLEBLOWER. then when it's time OUTLAST 2. WOOOOOOOOOO. i mean shhhhhhhh! wooo!

great horror experience.
This game is horrifying and intense the atmosphere and sound design is creepy and well done. The stealth sequences are good and the chase sequences are intense. The story is interesting (even though it is cliché ) but it dose get repetitive and the stealth sequences become easier but the game keeps the tension the entire way through also the graphics are good but the AI is not and i wish there were some puzzles but overall the game is great it was worth the buy. I cant wait for outlast 2 good job red barrles!

Addictive seamless flow.
Haven't been scared by a game like this since the first resident evil. The twist is you cant fight back which is annoyingly fun. The game flows seamlessly from one objective to the next taking you through a giant puzzle like maze making it easy to get addicted to. Would have given 5 stars if it were a bit longer or maybe more in depth but the beauty of simplicity represented here make it well worth it.

Great game,a little short.
The game was truly scary,although a bit repetitive. you need to practice stealth and conserve batteries if you want to survive.good story but it could have been an hour longer easily. All in all its a must play for survival horror fans.👻

Great Horror Game.
This game will always keep you on your toes no matter how many times you play it. The jump scares are perfectly timed and the storyline is interesting. I definitely have a fun time playing this game, especially at night where I'm more timid. If you're a horror game fanatic, choose this game to play, it's worth it!

Great Experience!
This is a horror masterpiece with innovation and an interesting settling. Atmosphere is well executed and sound design is on point, especially how it is technically an indie title. There is a variety of situations and horrors to experience and it's truly amazing. The only thing that holds the game back is it's repetitive objectives and focus on finding documents to get the whole story that can leave people lost. However it still is an amazing experience!

Terrifying Thrill Ride!
Overall the game offered a pleasant yet terrifying change of pace to the horror genre. No Guns or Weapons just your trusty camera and your wits as you navigate this creepy insane asylum of horrors. Gives this a game the extra edge when it come to a truly terrifying experience with a intriguing story line that takes you into the minds of Insanity as you delve deeper into the collectibles(Documents). My only drawbacks were that some of the movement mechanics could use a bit more polishing as they can be frustrating at times when trying to esacape an enemy and you cannot mantle a desk or reach a ledge unless you are at a almost perfect angle. Also the story can be somewhat linear in additional playthroughs with the jumpscares staying the same with some predictability. All in all though a great game and experience for a good price.
