Why Is War Thunder On PS4 And Not Xbox One? Because Microsoft Prevents Cross-Platform Play. Yudintsev wanted cross-platform support for War Thunder on the consoles – which would mean that console gamers could play against PC gamers on platform-agnostic servers – and that's why it was imperative to get that support for the game implemented on consoles. Without it, it would mean that the War Thunder player base would be exceptionally small and it would eventually cost more to maintain on the platform than what they would make back from the miniscule community supporting it. "Not only that, but Microsoft has a lot of unspoken limitations like if you want to make a free-to-play game you have to talk to an account manager and there are no set of rules; you need to communicate them; and the rule depends on the [individual account manager]. If he likes your game you get approval, if he doesn't you don't get approval." Yudintsev explains that the arbitrary process of going through an account manager who determines if a game is good or not is toxic to the growth of independent game culture. It is true, given that Yudintsev uses the example of Minecraft , and how the game's growth had to first come from the PC platform before it found its way onto home consoles. War Thunder MMO Dev Rejects Xbox One Because of Gold Subscriptions. War Thunder is currently in development for the PC and PS4, but Gaijin Entertainment’s Pavel Kulikov has spoken out about Microsoft’s requirement for Free-to-Play games on the Xbox consoles and why the game will not make its way on the Xbox One. In a recent interview with n3rdabl3 , Kulikov quoted the following: Until Microsoft will change its policies about free-to-play model (forcing everyone to buy Gold membership for multiplayer) and cross-platform play, War Thunder won’t be possible on Xbox One. I want to point out that this has nothing to do with hardware – Xbox One is a very potent machine and is quite capable of running our game. War Thunder is in beta which is proving to be somewhat popular, so it comes as a shame that such a hit will make its way on the PS4, but not the Xbox One. Any body can jump on and play and max out each country completely free of charge, players can choose to buy in game currency to spend on certain premium items i.e. premium planes or premium accounts for convenience. That model only works if players do not have to make the initial investment just to have the right to play the game. If you have PC players who make no initial payment into the game and play for free, PlayStation users who are NOT required to have a PS-plus subscription and play for free but Xbox one players are required to pay $5 a month for a gold subscription which produces NO “revenue” for the developers, those Xbox players will never invest money into the free to play model, and or demand compensation in the game given the advantage of PC and PlayStation users have, either way it will ruin the games Economy and Gaijin will make no “PROFIT”.
