Xbox One will support Xbox 360 headsets with an adapter. Existing headsets will be able to operate with the Xbox One, confirms Microsoft, but it's currently unclear if the adapter will be sold separately. "We are working to develop an adapter for current wired headsets to connect," said Microsoft's Xbox Support account on Twitter. "More details as we approach launch." Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One wouldn't ship with a headset in the box, with the company saying that the bundled Kinect hardware features its own microphone. "Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor," said Microsoft, "with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences." Microsoft's Xbox One comes with a proprietary headset jack, whereas Sony's PlayStation 4 will use a standard microphone jack. The Xbox 360 features a 2.5mm headphone jack, similar to many cell phones. Microsoft has not said whether the Xbox 360 headset adapter will be included with the Xbox One console or whether it will be made available for sale separately. Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One. Headsets can only be connected to the Xbox One Wireless Controller. They can’t be connected to third-party wired controllers. The Xbox One console does not feature Bluetooth functionality. Headsets cannot connect to the console using Bluetooth. On this page. If you have an Xbox One Wireless Controller with a 3.5-mm port, you can connect a headset with a standard 3.5-mm jack directly to the controller. (The 3.5-mm port is a small circular port on the bottom of the controller.) Find out how to adjust your audio settings at Use the Chat Headset with Xbox One. For more information on 3.5-mm standards, see Standards for audio jacks, below. No matter what kind of Xbox One Wireless Controller you have, you can connect the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to your controller by plugging it into the rectangular expansion port on the bottom of your controller. You can then connect a compatible 3.5-mm audio jack to the stereo headset adapter. Some third-party products come with a stereo headset adapter that may look different from the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter made by Microsoft, but they all function the same way. You can only connect an Xbox 360 Chat Headset using the stereo headset adapter with a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm converter, which comes with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. The Xbox One Stereo Headset does not include this adapter cable. Press the chat audio button on the stereo headset adapter until you hear only chat audio. (The chat audio button is in the lower-left corner of the adapter as you hold your controller.) If you have a stereo-chat headset, connect it to the audio output on your TV, monitor, or console. You can use the controls on the headset to control the audio volume. The two main types of connectors are RCA cables and the S/PDIF optical audio cable . Stereo headset with RCA cables. Plug the RCA cables from the headset or the headset’s base station into the audio-out ports on your TV. (The end of the RCA cables include a cylinder housing with a thin pin extending from the center.) Your TV must have either RCA audio output connectors or a 3.5-mm headphone output. If you use the 3.5-mm headphone jack, you’ll need to buy a 3.5-mm mini-to-RCA adapter cable. The Xbox One Stereo Headset and several other gaming headsets use a single 3.5-mm audio cable for both chat and gaming. These headsets plug directly into the stereo headset adapter. Other gaming headsets use two 3.5-mm audio cables. Typically, one cable has a green jack. This jack is used for game audio. The other cable has a pink jack. This jack is used for chat audio on a PC. These headsets may include an adapter that combines both. However, not all of these cables use the CTIA headset standard. This can compromise performance and quality. For more information, see the following section, Standards for audio jacks. Stereo headset with S/PDIF (optical) audio cable. Plug the headset’s S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) optical cable into the back of your TV, monitor, or console. (The S/PDIF cable plugs into a rectangular port on your TV.) Not all 3.5-mm audio jacks are made to the same standard. There are two audio jack standards: Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP). If you use an OMTP headset, you’ll probably experience audio or chat issues. However, if your headset or earbuds use the OMTP standard, you can purchase an adapter to convert the device to CTIA. These adapters are available at many electronic retail stores. The following images show the differences in the CTIA and OMTP standards. The CTIA standard has the microphone section of the jack closer to the end of the cable while the OMTP standard has the ground section of the jack closer to the end of the cable. Microphone Ground Right audio channel Left audio channel. Ground Microphone Right audio channel Left audio channel. The following headsets are incompatible with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter: Mad Catz Tritton Warhead headset Mad Catz Tritton Primer headset (Mad Catz offers an adapter for the Primer headset to convert the 2.5-mm audio jack to a 3.5-mm audio jack. Contact Mad Catz for support.) The Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and Xbox 360 Wireless Bluetooth Headset Headsets with this 2.5-mm connector will not work because of the connector format. This connector includes a long, cylindrical pin in the middle of the connecting side that does not fit into the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. I’ve already tried swapping the blue and black. AlanH59 2 years ago. or you can get an adapter like a smart person, 4 bucks on amazon. Nastyfast44 2 years ago. Solder grounds for echo. Completely solved the issue. Devan EricksonC 2 years ago. Ya you, you need to burn off the plastic that is coated on the wire. If you DO NOT use solder you have to burn the ends and wipe off. Use a lighter on the wire and you will see it burn off. shaun.stefankiewicz 2 years ago. I twisted all these wires and im getting absolutely nothing. I know i should solder them but i just wanna make sure that its going to work before i go out and buy an iron. I feel like i should be getting at least a little bit of a connection without soldering but when i say nothing i mean NOTHING. Even tried switching blue and black. Can anyone help. Devan EricksonC 2 years ago. You have to burn the wires. There is a plastic coating on the wire itself. Just use a lighter an you will see. Burn off the part that burns then wipe off and then connect it to the other end. fogle6 3 years ago. Hey there guys, Just a tip for you, Don't use the black wire from the headset. Tape it off. It uses 1v and could cause the echoing. :) logan.grant3 3 years ago. it worked flawlessly the modification was easy didnt cost anything to do and the first wireing job had no echo and mt friends heard me and i heard them as clear as a bell, i would upload pictures but for somereason the uploader isnt working. dominique.evans.925 3 years ago. Hey I still have the echo after swapping wires I have the X12. logan.grant3 3 years ago. I don't know I didn't have any problem no echo try rewireing everything again and out both blue and black together an then remove one and see if it works if it doesn't put that wire back on and remove the other one and see if that works don't tape anything up untile you get on live and talk to someone to see if you have echo. Comments (7) I have the X31 headset, it has the 2.5mm jack but i dont see it listed here anywhere.. please help. i have the turtle beach recon 30x when i try to set up i go to devices and wireless controller but it wont let me click on the volume option?any help? For connecting the X12 to the XBOX 1, if we have an audio controller, can we use any 3.5 mm cable, or does it have to be the one shown in the picture? Sorry for the confusion, your model is older but was succeeded by the X32. It shares the same kind of setup and use. Please follow those details and instructions for your X31. Does this persist? The Recon 30X is a chat model only, so remember you will not be getting game sound/menu music with this. You will want to use the one picture here. While the 3.5mm connection is standard, the wiring is different for use. You need a cable like ours, which is handling audio and microphone. If you use just a base 3.5mm cable, you may not have microphone use. I think I figured it out. When you insert the headphones , don't push it all the way into the controller, let it slide thru and it'll stop , give it like 4 secs, then push it all the way in, works for me every time now, could hear the audio. I have the Recon 50X and I have tried everythin in settings I'm not sure if I need a headset audio controller. Microsoft Confirms 360 Headset Adapter for Xbox One. Microsoft has confirmed that it's making an adapter to allow current-gen and third-party headsets to work with the Xbox One, though this won't be included with the console. Xbox One lead planner Alberto Penello made the announcement on Twitter, along with the revelation that the adapter would be sold as a separate accessory. — Albert Penello (@albertpenello) July 30, 2013. — Albert Penello (@albertpenello) July 30, 2013. While we'd heard the company was investigating ways to make current headsets works with the Xbox One, this is the first time an adapter has been confirmed; it's also the first time the company has confirmed the solution won't be included in the box. The reason current headsets will no longer work with the Xbox One is down to the redesigned controller, which means the expansion port has changed from the one currently used. While the adapter won't be included with the Xbox One at retail, some confusion exists over whether the new Xbox One headset will be in the box. The last we heard, headsets would be sold separately, though Microsoft hasn't responded to rumours that this has since changed. Seeing as an adapter has now been confirmed as being sold separately, it would be a little odd for the company to include a working headset in the box, but you never know. We're still waiting to hear back from Microsoft and, as soon as we do, will update the story. Luke Karmali is IGN's UK Junior Editor. Xbox One won't bundle a headset in the box, but Microsoft is seeking a way to let Xbox 360 headsets work with the new console's controller. The sometimes-reliable Xbox Support stated on Twitter this week that the company was looking into an adapter that enable cross-generational functionality, which Microsoft has confirmed to IGN. "Xbox plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," an Xbox representative told IGN. “The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console. This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input." Indeed, it seems your Xbox 360 headset will be compatible with Xbox One after all. It remains to be seen if the solution will come in the box in place of a headset, or be sold separately. Xbox 360 headset on xbox one

Recent reports indicate that Xbox 360 headsets will be compatible with the Xbox One so users who enjoy their old hardware will not have to shell out cash to pay for a new one. All an Xbox owner would have to do is purchase an adapter to hook the 360 model to their One controller. A Twitter user by the name of @TheMVPPlaya asked Xbox executive Albert Penello, "Any news on an adapter for current gen hi-end gaming headsets to work on the Xbox One?" to which he replied, "Yes. We will have an adapter that allows current gaming headsets to work." The Xbox One priced their Chat Headset at $24.99 for launch day, according to new online reports. The console will not be packaged with the gaming headset despite Microsoft taking major efforts to show off its capabilities at E3. An official statement from Microsoft said: "Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory. Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire." The console's headset is reportedly able to filter out television noise along with picking up even the quietest commands from around the room. Gamers without a headset will be able to have online chats through the Kinect feature and its microphone. Arstechnica reports similar third party headsets could charge around $200. Microsoft also unveiled the price of the new remote at $59.99 with the Play and Charge Kit priced at $74.99, according to CNET. The controller will boast over 40 new alterations as Microsoft strived to make the perfect controller with optimum performance. Related Stories. Most Popular Stories.
