There is also problems with compression, I'm not talking about data compression (although there is evidence of artifacting caused by that too), rather I'm talking about dynamic range compression; where in this case naturally louder sounds that for some reason aren't actually loud in the mix (ie. tank fire) are causing more constant sounds (ambient map sounds, chopper engines etc) to "duck" in and out of the mix, in other words lowering it's volume to make way for another sound. All this coupled with the aforementioned over-driveness of it makes for a piss poor mix of other wise awesome war sounds. The separation needs to be adjusted, the overall mix needs to be re-EQ'd so it doesn't sound so over-blown, just a bit and the compression ratio needs to be flattened out, so to speak. So none of it will work with my 5.1 surround sound setup. I'm Talking, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant, Vudu, Xbox Video, even freakin' Blu-Ray is DTS. So where do I find content that will show me tru 5.1 surround sound with out running into this DTS issue? I've seen the MS page where this is mentioned (here) and believe the compressed 5.1 it refers to is DTS. On my Xbox One there is only the option of stereo or DTS over optical. Compressed 5.1/7.1 surround sound can refer to Dolby Digital Plus or DTS-HD. (Toslink doesn't have the capacity to carry lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD) I think that's correct. When I get the Xbox One in theory (probably with an update) I can connect my Sky HD box into the Xbox then into the TV for picture and the sound can go from the Xbox into the playbar.
