How To Connect An Xbox One Controller to PC via Bluetooth. guide. You have an Xbox One controller, but no wireless dongle. Don't worry. You can now connect your controller to your PC via Bluetooth. Here's how! Shortly after the reveal of the Xbox One S, we learned the new Xbox One controller that ships with the console is capable of connecting to a PC without having to own an adapter. That’s because the Xbox One S controller features Bluetooth support, in addition to an improved wireless transmitter. But how can you connect your Xbox One S controller to your PC via Bluetooth? It’s actually much easier than you would think. Let’s Make a Connection. Prior to attempting to connect the Xbox One S controller to your PC via Bluetooth, make sure you put your batteries in and it’s able to power up. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard reports of people complaining they can’t connect their Xbox One to their console, or PC, to only it didn’t have batteries. OK - now that your controller is powered up, hold the Xbox One’s Wireless Enrollment button, which is located towards its top above the Xbox button, but over a bit to the left. Hold the Wireless Enrollment button for about three seconds, which will result in the Xbox button to begin pulsating. This means the controller is searching for a console or PC to connect to. While the controller’s light is pulsating, go to your computer and click on Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth. Once there, your PC will search for a new Bluetooth device. Your Xbox One S controller won’t pop up immediately as it will first be searching for an Xbox One or PC with a wireless adapter to connect to. Once it doesn’t sense either of those, its Bluetooth will kick in, which will allow it to become visible to your computer. Click on the Xbox One S controller that pops up, click on the “Pair” button, and then wait a few moments for it to connect to your PC. Bluetooth Activated! Congratulations! You now have connected your Xbox One S controller to your PC via Bluetooth. Sure - Microsoft’s official wireless dongle may offer a better experience considering it’s its own proprietary wireless connection, but it also costs $25 bucks and the use of a precious USB port to use. We know a Bluetooth connection can sometimes be finicky if there are too many wireless signals within a particular area, but in our experience, we haven’t had any issues connecting the Xbox One S controller to our PC. If for some reason you’re having issues keeping a steady connection between your Xbox One S controller and your PC, you might want to consider either Microsoft’s official wireless adapter or just sucking it up and play your games tethered to a USB cable. Follow him on Twitter to read his ramblings on video games, anime, and technology. You can only connect one Xbox One S controller to a Windows 10 PC via Bluetooth. In typical Microsoft fashion, the company takes one step forward, but takes two steps back. While we know the Xbox One S controller is capable of connecting to a PC via Bluetooth, as well as how to set it up, Microsoft has yet to publicly disclose if there are any limitations. Today, we’ve learned there is a limitation to the Bluetooth feature on the Xbox One S controller, and it’ll affect fans of couch co-op or party games the most as only one controller can be connected to a Windows 10 PC at a time using this method. During our time with the Xbox One S controller, we ran into some issues connecting multiple controllers via Bluetooth. After conducting some research, we discovered this is a limitation Microsoft has purposely implemented in Windows 10. According to the “How to connect an Xbox One Wireless Controller to a Windows PC” support page, only one Xbox One S controller can connect to a Windows 10 PC with the controller needing to support Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. If you want to connect more than one Xbox One S controller to your Windows 10 PC, you’re going to have to purchase the new Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. The adapter supports either eight Xbox One wireless controllers, four Xbox One wireless controllers and Xbox Chat Headset, or two Xbox One wireless controllers and Xbox Stereo Headset. While Microsoft took a step in the right direction as it finally allows consumers to use their Xbox One controller on their Windows PC wirelessly, in typical fashion, it took two steps back by limiting how many can be connected via Bluetooth. Meanwhile, those who figured out how to connect DualShock 4 controllers to their Windows 10 PC have been enjoying it, especially since you can connect multiple controllers without any sort of limitations. PC Drivers for the Xbox One Controller Now Available. Beginning today, new PC drivers for the Xbox One controller will be available for download, offering PC gamers a better way to play using the Xbox One controller. We’re planning to release the drivers as part of a Windows update in the near future; however, today, I am happy to offer early access to our dedicated PC gamers on MajorNelson.com. Update: Run Windows Update and it will automatically pick up the latest drivers, therefore I am removing the links below. PC Drivers for Xbox One Controller (x86) PC Drivers for Xbox One Controller (x64) We know our fans have wanted PC compatibility, and we know they wanted to be able to use the Xbox One controller with the same games and applications they have been playing with using the Xbox 360 controller. We can’t wait for them to play their favorite PC games with what we consider the best controller ever made and we’re excited for fans to experience the improved D-pad, redesigned battery compartment, new comfortable design and offset analog sticks. The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you’ll be gaming in no time. While I’m glad that I can now use an Xbox One controller for my PC games, I’m surprised that this isn’t a control panel item with configuration options for multiple controllers and WiFi Direct settings. Since WiFi Direct uses WiFi protected setup to automatically configure an ad-hoc connection I’m sure MOST recent motherboards with WiFi would likely support this ability to connect to multiple Xbox One controllers wireless. Make it happen Major Nelson! The X1 controller doesn’t use WiFi direct though. It would be good to have some configuration/calibration settings though. Nice, but after using the controller on the PC i get sync issues with it on the Xbone. It looses connection and i have to restart the console to get it to work. Yes. Because you have to re-associate the controller with whatever device it’s using. I think you have to hit the sync button on the controller first, then the sync button on the XBox. I read on MS official site that this should get it to re-associate, not just for the XBone controller, but also the XBox 360 controller. For anyone looking for a specific fix for Windows 7 64-bit platforms,, instead of all the vague solutions people are posting around the net, The answer lies in Windows Update, In the optional updates, not the important ones like you’d think and its not necessarily a recent update, seeing as no one else narrowed down the problem, its these two updates in the Optional section> Update for User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2685813) Update for Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2685811) I strongly believe these are this is the key to getting it to immediately work, as I did NOTHING to the PC or controller other than doing ALL updates to date + plugging in the controller. The PC did the rest. The device really is ‘plug & play’. not on VISTA, though. Come on, guys! Im pretty sure it will work on Vista, as its very similar to Windows 7. Maybe do some more research to see if it’s Vista compatible. Also, you should ditch Vista and go with the much better W7 imo, I even enjoy it more than W8. Sadly it seems they did not release the driver update for Vista. At least not yet. hopefully they will as Win7 is not an option for me for now. Dude you’re awesome. I don’t know if you had seen my previous post but I got the drivers to work on my Win 8.1 machine but not my Win 7 machine. After installing the updates you mentioned on the Win 7 machine it worked flawlessly! Thanks, man! Thank you. I have this already installed (x64) but still only the left stick will work on TR1 – any further ideas please. >>> Hi guys, good news. Got it to work by just plugging the newly purchased ‘XBone Controler + Charge & Play Kit’ WITHOUT downloading & installing the above posted driver! :S. (I know, im shocked too!) -Newly formatted Dell Studio, full MS updates completely installed & up-to-date, Windows 7 x64, i5 Processor. -Did NOT download or install posted driver from this webpage. -Took the controller out of the box, plugged the MS Charge & Play Micro USB cord that came in the box, Without the battery pack in (to save battery life until wireless dongle came avail. for sale). -As soon as controller was plugged in it immediately installed the software (took 5 full mins!). -Once install completed, started Steam, Steam immediately recognized the controller plugged in, and have full access to menu navigation & gameplay while using the new controller. Gaming since 1981, I lived thru all the great eras, and still love my games even tho life prevents you to play more as you get older due to responsibilities eating up your time. XBox 360 is the greatest console & controller in history! With that being said, the new XBone controller is fabulous! They got one thing right, they didn’t change a already good thing which is the XBox 360 controller, but refined its features in an evolved sort of way – which was the right move MS. It feels like a ‘tighter’ controller as its design is more ‘mature’, dense, improved & quality materials with great modern texture, no longer flimsy plastic. Fits better in your hand, micro USB cord ends are HQ, joysticks too high as it lessens accuracy from an engineering standpoint (but you wont notice), ‘X’ & ‘A’ buttons slightly too close to right joystick as thumb rubs against joystick edge, dislike the buttons as in 2014 they should be illuminated for dark room gaming, all buttons make a click sound which is annoying, the click feel is wanted, not the sound, triggers are fantastic with a great modern spring feel to it, bumpers feel cheap & also noisy with clicks, Home Button looks cheap and a step back from the 360 controller, XBone controller looks more minimal which somehow in 2014 is welcomed as it looks refreshing & refined, AA battery option + extremely small battery pack is welcomed to satisfy all gamer preferences, altho this controller has a superior battery life vs the 360 gamers will love the option to use HQ rechargeable batteries, battery case sinkened to hide battery pack & modernize controller, haven’t found a use for 2 menu buttons in middle of controller via Steam, D-pad is poorly seated and clicks loud lessening the life of use as I feel from exp. that it will get loose with overuse, controller is slightly smaller in all diameters. To date, no wireless support with PC use – USB cord only as you play. I hate wires, so im REALLY looking forward to some sort of release for wireless capability soon as well as a Battery Charging Station like XBox 360 had. I love the controller, very happy with it regardless of minor details, as im a quality man, I love the fact that this is a higher quality feel & play in terms of responsive control due to design – and to me that increases my pleasure while playing, so to me its worth it! For you, well, if you have the money def. get the newer XBone controller, but if you already have your setup, I say save your money, as the 360 controller is still a great controller vs the XBone, and NOT worth the money to upgrade – unless you have money to burn, then id say go for it to increase the pleasure of playing. And if you were to not upgrade right away, id say keep your eye out for a great deal over the next 2 years if you run across one, then pick up a couple as a treat to yourself. <<< The solution for error 37 is to update “Windows 7” through “Windows Update”, are only required to install updates for “Windows 7”. All boats. After restart the pc and retry installing the driver, and it works! The controller doesn’t move the mouse and it doesn’t work in every game. The game has to support a controller You can test it by starting steam and going to big picture mode it should be able to control that. “The controller will only work in games that have controller support. Some games you will still need to use keyboard and mouse.” And by selecting ‘Controller’ in each game’s ‘Controller Options’ menu in-game. Hi i had error 37 also drivers were installed and controller recognised but no inputs being registered on calibration. the solution was that i did not have the usb 3.0 drivers installed from my motherboard manufacturer website (everything had worked in the usb slot uptill this btw). now my problem seems to be that the controller only works for circa 30 seconds in say outlast, burnout paradise, fez etc before it freezes whatever i was pressing at that particular time spamming it, disconnecting and reconnecting the controller gives me another 30 seconds. This is not every game tho some work just like tomb raider or dishonored. Anybody know what the problem here is? Hey Nelson… I would just like to inform you (and your team) that the RT and LT aren’t working… And as a second thing, I would like to tell you that if I connect my Madcatz Tournament Edition 2 Killer Instinct Fightstick to my PC, the RB an LB are switched around (and probably RT and LT if they were working) Anyways, thanks for the drivers, looking SO much forward to using my XBone controllers on my PC 🙂 Update… Can see they actually do work in a game like Watch_Dogs and work as axles and I’ve seen someone write in a comment far below… Funny part is that in the driver settings there’s set up for 10 bottons and axles for the left and right stick, there’s an Z-axle mentioned there, but it doesn’t react to anything. It’s a little confusing that there’s two bottons in the settings that doesn’t do anything at all, and that the RT and LT don’t work as bottons… Especially considering people with a fightstick, where the triggers aren’t triggers at all but just bottons… Please get the triggers to work as both as they did with the X360 Controller… They are axes, not axles. The LT and RT triggers are treated like an axis as they are analogue. Ranging from -100 to 100. They aren’t digital buttons. They are mapped to the Z axis. If a game treats it like a digital button that is only because the developers have specifically designed the game that way. The extra two buttons, 9 & 10, are the left click and right click buttons on the sticks. Same here with my madcatz TE2 arcade edition, RT and LT arent working 😦 I hope they will =) Thx for this release, keep working on it :p. Isn’t your RB and LB switched around to? it does work on big picture in steam but not on Dark souls 2. help me. A lot of games I had to select the controller option in the game’s ‘Controls Options’ by using the mouse first. Cannot get any thing other than the left stick working on Tomb Raider one. Have checked all updates in Win 7 x64, everything up to date including optional – any ideas? Thanks. Tested with most recent TR game and works fine, shame I can’t get it to work with TR1. Don’t install the drivers, just update all your ‘Windows Update’ and restart PC. Then plug in new controller and it installs it for you that takes 5 mins. After that it works! What is the password for the zip file? Ok, I just remember reading somewhere from an Microsoft spokesperson that a PC version of the controller could possibly be coming in the future and that they were working on a wireless mode. It would have been good if they made the new surface pro 3 compatible with it without an additional dongle. It seems strange that they wouldn’t. Maybe in the next version of surface. So now that this is a thing, do you guys think it’s worth getting a One controller if I don’t have a One yet? Is it that big of an improvement over the 360 controller? It really depends on how big your hands are. While the controller is a tiny bit bigger, the sticks are smaller and feel more precise and the two triggers are really nice. The d-pad is an immense improvement if you play games where you used the d-pad a lot. (I.E. for me fighting games like Street Fighter). The down sides for me are the thumb stick and bumpers are harder to press. Overall though it’s a major improvement over the 360 version and I’m glad I have it. I actually own an XB1 though and I don’t think I would purchase just a lone controller for the PC if I had the 360 one already. If you have the money the choice is yours and I can say with complete honesty that it is an upgrade. Halo 2 Anniversary CONFIRMED! lol jk. i have the same problem on W8.1 x64. Not sure what that is about. Would like to know a fix. Just a tip to anyone having issues with the switch from a 360 to One controller, make sure if you installed the drivers with the wireless dongle to full uninstall those drivers, as they seem to cause some games to conflict. Only problem I’ve having now is any time I start my computer the rumble goes nuts for like 10 seconds and bounces off my desk. Keep forgetting about it until it happens, hoping driver update stops that nonsense. It will work when u install the drivers for,32 bits or 64 bits. Haha… nice trying to pull down people Shawn. Your name also indicate you’re native english speaking… let’s see you write Danish here for me shall we? Love the spelling/grammar police and trolls, they always try try to ruin other people’s days to feel better about them selves, and in many cases do so because the internet is the only place they have a chance at feeling better than others or even equal. I was thanking for the release of the drivers, and reported something I found faulty with them… I even wrote an update later that it was only 2/3 of my problem that was actually a problem. You my good sir haven’t contributed with anything at all here, you only got here to correct my spelling for some fun reason… I feel sorry for you, and hope you’ll be getting a more interesting life soon. Good luck to you. Is there any way to upgrade the firmware on the controller with only a Windows 8 pc? I just got a wire and connected my wireless controller, and it quickly downloaded the drivers by its self hasle free. I didn’t need to download any of these drivers. Got the error: code 37. Troubleshooting prompts reinstalling drivers. Doesn’t fix it, so it prompts troubleshooting again to reinstall drivers. Disappointed, as I ordered a controller for this. 😛 The Latest Recently on Major Nelson. EA SPORTS UFC 3 Champions Edition Is Now Available For Xbox One. Railway Empire Is Now Available For Xbox One. Your controller preferences. Do you use an Xbox One controller in lieu of a mouse with your Windows 10 PC? How do you like it? Let us know in the comments section below! How to use an Xbox One controller with your PC. Once upon a time, Microsoft didn't support its own controllers on its own PC platform. You needed hacked drivers and workarounds to use the excellent Xbox One controller with PC games. That's no longer the case, with official drivers built right into Windows 10. So, while it's easy to do, there's more to it than just plugging it in. Using a micro USB cable. By far the simplest way to use an Xbox One controller is to use a micro USB cable. Attach to the connector on your controller and any free USB port on your PC, and it'll automatically recognize it's there and you're good to go. Any decent cable will do the trick, even the one that you use to charge your phone. But what if I don't have a standard USB port? It's not just desktop PCs that you can use an Xbox One controller with. It's perfectly possible to use it with a tablet too since it's a Windows 10 device. Even a small, cheap tablet will recognize the controller, though unlike a PC you may need to make sure it has batteries inside to turn it on and power it. To connect to a tablet without a standard USB port, you just need an adapter. Either a micro USB to USB or USB-C to USB will do the trick depending on which tablet you have with which connector. Plug the adapter into the tablet and the cable from the controller into the USB end of the adapter. The wireless dongle. The much smaller, redesigned Xbox Wireless Adapter. Microsoft also has an official wireless dongle for Windows PCs that allows you to go wire free. The first-generation controller and the Xbox Elite controller don't support Bluetooth, so to go wireless on your PC you'll need the dongle. It isn't expensive at $24, and recently Microsoft announced a redesigned model that is much smaller. This isn't on sale at the time of writing but hopefully will be soon. The new generation Xbox One controller from Microsoft, that is the one sold with the Xbox One S and since on its own, supports Bluetooth. That means you can connect it to any Windows PC, laptop or tablet that has Bluetooth built in. Open settings on your PC. Go to devices . Make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Turn on the controller by pressing the large round X button. Click on the controller in your discovered devices to pair. This is particularly handy if you're taking a controller on the road with you and your laptop. One less cable to pack! If you don't have one of these controllers yet, they're available now in multiple colors, and prices start around $40. Xbox Accessories app. This is particularly handy if you're using an Xbox Elite Controller, as the Xbox Accessories app allows you to customize the buttons and paddles to a layout of your choice. It's in the Windows Store to download to your PC, all you need to do is connect the controller to the PC to get started! Wrapping up. It's now not only easy to use your Xbox One controller with a Windows 10 PC, but it's flexible, too. Thanks to the breadth of the Windows hardware ecosystem and the different options for actually connecting and using a controller, there's a solution that should fit all needs. Triple the cost & more features but workmanship worse. Xbox Elite controller owner since day one release. First controller failed just after 3 months. Left bumper plastic clip broke leaving the bumper free to swing like a door. Upper right paddle button stopped working. After a spending several hours on the phone with MS Support they finally swapped the controller even though it had past its 90 day warranty. That's right the same warranty they provide for a $20 headset is the same warranty for a $150 Wireless controller. (Unless you bought the console controller bundle then you get the full year.) The replacement controller failed after 4 months with right stick drifting issues and the left bumper clip breaking again. Purchased 3rd controller from local store with 2 yr extended warranty. This one is now being replaced due to right stick drifting issues, bumper failure and paddle buttons not clicking. I would like to write about what I like about the controller but MS only gives me 1000 characters, I'm out of room. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. 28 out of 31 people found this helpful. the only bad thing is the grips fell apart and did not hold up. 7 out of 7 people found this helpful. Wears out fast. The RB button broke within 6 months, left thumbstick will act up and move your aim in shooting games when not touching it after about 6 months, the rubber handgrips are also falling off. If it had a year long warrenty it'd be way better. HUUUGE waste of money in the long run, SAD. 22 out of 26 people found this helpful. Busted bumper. Controller feels solidly made. Fit and finish seem acceptable. But, within 30 days the right bumper broke, as has been extensively documented in these reviews and those elsewhere. In my case, the failure was within the 90 day warranty period. As stated elsewhere, this warranty is criminally short for a product of this expense. Purchase at your own risk. 27 out of 35 people found this helpful. I have had my elete controler for less than 1 year. I love everything about the controller (when it is working!) I knew I had a problem when the controller wouldn't stay synced to my Xbox unless I had the micro usb cable plugged into it, essentially making it a wired controler. I have watched countless YouTube videos on how to fix the issue. New batteries, power cycled my Xbox, updated controler. You name it is tried it. Microsoft suggested I purchase a new controler. My original controler that came with my Xbox still works perfectly! I spent 150$ on this beast. I'd say worth every penny if it worked. I don't make a ton of money and I'm just disappointed that my elete controler didn't even last one year when the original I have had twice as long still works just fine. I'm more dissatisfied with the customer service I received from Microsoft. I buy Microsoft products because I feel they are the best, but Microsoft makes it hard to be a loyal customer with poor customer service. Great controler (when it works) buy at your own risk. Once you purchase this controler if it malfunctions your stuck with an expencive paper weight. 8 out of 9 people found this helpful. Works great till it breaks. I agree with a lot of the reviews here. This controller is great in every aspect of gaming. Everything feels fresh and tactile. The weight was also a big thing that made this controller great for me. Unfortunately like others I only got to use my controller for about 6 months until the Left Bumper just fell off. I take great care of things and would never do something like throw them. So when this happened I was extremely disappointed. If you're looking for a great 6 month controller, this is it. (Model 1698 if anyone was wondering). 4 out of 5 people found this helpful. DO NOT WATSE YOUR MONEY. I have gone through two of these controllers. On my first one, the thumb sticks broke and for the second one the back rubber gripping fell off and the same thumbstick issue. I really don't see how they value this controller at 150 dollars. When issues come up on the controller Microsoft policy on a premium controller is absolutely crap. If you want one buy it but pray that you will not have any issues. 11 out of 14 people found this helpful. waste of a 150 bucks.too bad i cannt rate the thing 0. Back grips is coming off.right bumper broke.Must games i have tried to use the hair trigger switch thing.Doesnt work to fire the guns in the game .I wouldnt tell anyone to buy a elite controller. They better off just mailing microsoft the cash and keep using a normal controller. 20 out of 28 people found this helpful. Piece of trash. Keep loosing the buttons beacause they are on there with magnetics so whenever you flick up or anything like that the button flys of the taller buttons are impossible to use and the peddles on the back are way to sensitive wish I could rate a 0 star. 20 out of 29 people found this helpful. Quality is just the same as original controller. It's just a regular controller with more weight and more mappable buttons. Bumper broke and 90 day warrenty conveniently ended before. sweet. 14 out of 19 people found this helpful. Translate to English. Язык Microsoft Store: United States - English.
