Xbox One X/S Dolby Atmos Games: Full List.
Forbes writes: When most people talk about the performance differences between today’s games consoles, they tend to focus on their graphics capabilities. There is, though, another area where different consoles - and different games - can score a significant advantage over their rivals: sound quality.

Amos really makes all the difference.
I would recommend it to anyone on the fence about it.
Yup. I have a 7.1.4 Atmos setup. Pain in the balls to set up, but worth it imo.
That must sound incredible.
I'm only rocking a 5.1.2 but for my room size it's perfect.
Maybe one day when I own my own place with a dedicated cinema/games room would I go that Boom. Haha.
I have a pretty sick set up, a 5.2.2 set up, with a high end 4k hdr tv, Im so glad microsoft kept users like me in mind when designing the xbox, so that we can have the ultimate gaming and media set up.
I'm always a little surprised Sony doesn't catch more flak for the things that the Xbox DOES do well, however small that list may be.
I am trying to price an Atmos system but they are expensive.
Do what I do and buy a refurbished model from Amazon. I've bought 2 refurb receivers over the last few yrs and both have been practically new all wrapped in what looks like original plastic and comes with everything that comes with it when its brand new. It just cuts the cost way down.
Atmos is amazing. Another reason to own a X if you have atmos. Hope the PS4 pro will be capable in the future 2-3 years without atmos will make me sad.
Yes, Sony has better and more exclusive games, but Microsoft continually keeps improving the cross-platform games so that they play much better on Xbox One S and X.
I have only tried the headphones implementation of Atmos which isn't really Atmos I suppose. It was pretty hit and miss. The demo sounded amazing but the games and movies I tried I couldn't really tell a difference. Would love to try it on an actual Dolby Atmos hardware setup though.
PC or Xbox? I find the PC headphone implementation quite flakey. A lot of games seem to ignore it and output in stereo. I think it depends on games using the latest audio libraries in Windows, but many don't.
Both PC and Xbox. The demo's are amazing. But in the games and movies that supposedly support it, I couldn't really tell compared to just regular Dolby 7.1 on the headphones. Also weird with headphones since you have to set them to stereo for the Atmos to work.
Atmos for headphones is stereo virtualisation, so it makes sense that you have to set stereo to use it. In order to work the game/film needs to be outputting object-based sound though, so it should respect the Atmos setting and output surround sound for Atmos to virtualise. Atmos will also virtualise 7.1/5.1 etc discreet channels, if that's what the game delivers.
@may if you haven't heard atmos before try a Best Buy showroom it'll blow you away. My Best Buy has a demo setup but not sure about others.
When I was playing tomb raider there was a part where I was creeping under a walkway with soldiers running above. I paused the game thinking it was someone upstairs, lol.
This has happened many times where I'm genuinely surprised by the spatial sound placement, It actually works!
I'm in the same camp, I'm not finding a huge difference between stereo and Atmos. The real hardware set up sounds like a much better implementation.
I'd definitely recommended it to anyone. I just recently upgraded my audio receiver (my old one didn't have any hdmi inputs) and this one has dolby atmos. I already had an 5.1 in-ceiling setup and it sounds amazing with dolby atmos. I haven't been able to take advantage of it as much as I want to since I game mostly late at night. I don't want the sounds to wake up my family so I'm usually playing with my Astro A50s.

A few Demands.
1st demand should be making it a one time payment no subscription. 2nd Demand should be making it to where you can modify or tune the way you want to hear things ; an example could be spotify for iphone where there is an equalizer with a range of options to choose from which would be genuinely worth my purchase. I would generally love to recommend this app for a few people but i highly doubt they would want to purchase this. Overall this app has alot of potential capable of big things. If it manages very well i suppose i could give it another review.

Surround sound like atmosphere.
I love that you get a surround sound like atmosphere with any headset without having to by the pricey $350 headsets just to enjoy surround sound and even more so with the sound system part of the app. The rich sounds off everything around you can be heard so clearly its amazing. I'm a gamer, and with the dolby atmos app it definitely adds that extra immersive quality and advantage to my gaming experience. I have noticed however the surround sound app for headsets do differ from one headset to another, for example the surround sound and bass quality are much more apparent on my astro A40's than it is with my turtle beach XO one. Other than that the app is amazingly awesome.

turns your cheap headphones into a beautiful experience.
THIS IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE XBOX SETTING I dont even know where to begin. for those of you who have never heard of Dolby Atmos or aren't familiar with the technology behind it, DO NOT IGNORE this and chalk it up as just some premium setting for some beefy home theater set-up that you will never be able to afford.. no no no. DOWNLOADING THIS APP WILL TRANSFORM THE WAY YOU EXPERIENCE VIDEO GAMES FOREVER! ALL YOU NEED IS A PAIR OF STEREO HEADPHONES. ANY PAIR WILL WORK whether you have some crappy old pair that cost you $5 back in 1991, or some elite 7.1 surround sound gaming headphones, ALL YOU NEED TO DO is install this app, launch it and select"headphones" as your preferred listening device, then you have the option to use a 5 day FREE TRIAL, or pay $14.99 and transform the way you experience sound forever. after downloading the dolby atmos for headphones in this app, MAKE SURE TO HIT: guide button>settings>display&sound>audio output>and on the right choose Dolby Atmos. You are welcome.

Atoms for Windows. Does it work?
Okay I'm going to get this out of the way. Yes, Atmos costs $15. but I'm reviewing the app, not the price. First. it works fairly well. granted it's only virtual surround sound, not the real deal. Second, is a common misconception. THIS APP DOES NOT MAKE NORMAL SPEAKER SURROUND. Surround sound isn't just created. whether it be a movie, TV show, video game, or other it is intentionally created by audio engineers to get the audio you hear in a theater, so it will only work well with applications and videos that were designed to use Atmos. but, overall, it works fairly well, and in my opinion is worth the $15 dollars. but due to the nature of the application versus the price, I'm only going to give it 4 stars. I hope you found this review useful.

Better than I expected.
I've been using Windows sonic enhancer with my old x42's. It made them sound a little better than the stock surround, but dolby atmos was like getting a new headset! Supported atmos content is simply amazing and it even improves standard dolby digital and other content as well. Try the free trial first, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Holy sh*t! 😱 AMAZING Audio App 👌👍
Dolby Atmos is so much more than just an 'app'. This is more a tool/plugin/mod that completely changes how you hear and perceive audio. Dolby Atmos actually alters the audio quality & essentially turns any headphone or soundbar into a super-HD, surround sound device. It doesn't matter if you use a Microsft stereo headset, a Vizio soundbar, or some top of the line home theatre surround sound setup because regardless, Atmos will make it sound over 9000% better! For what it does, it makes it worth way more than $14.99. I can't even describe how great it sounds. If you don't believe me just download the app, plug in your headset, and get the 30-day free-trial. It takes 30 seconds to configure in the Xbox Settings, so make sure you do. Once you have it setup the app has 3 demo videos, it really shows how amazing Atmos surround audio can be. (Not that I expect less of the inventors of surround sound.) Those videos sold me, so I'll be purchasing next month. TRY IT OUT!

worth the price.
other companies want you to spend a lot of money on their inferior-sounding headphones, when true gamers and audiophiles should already own superior ones. this well-priced app is much better sounding with my hi-res headphones than the competition. the only complaint is that i don't own an atmos home theater to get the full use out of it. maybe it would be nice to have a choice of selected modes, for, say, $8 each for people like myself who can't turn up a stereo because i live in an apartment, but having both for the future is nice, too, if my purchase carries over to future consoles.

App ONLY works on a one-time basis after fresh install.
Issues: * It deactivates DA w/headphones if you pull out of a game session (without quitting the game/app); you have to quit and restart the game or app (such as YT) to re-enable the DA effects * It slows down the system interface and makes everything laggy.. sometimes there are loud static-like popping sounds that can be heard in the main system interface as well as inside games and apps * It makes the system unstable - some games and even apps refuse to launch after installing the app and activating the DA w/headphones option (takes forever and games are stuck at the start up loading screen) * When you restart your console, or shutdown/power up for a second session, the app no longer works and defaults back to Windows Sonic. I literally have to delete, reinstall, and reconfigure the app EVERY time after a system shutdown in order to use DA w/headphones * I know that this is not a console issue on my end because everything works fine the moment I delete DA from my system.

Dolby Atmos is not Free.
This software only says the Dolby Access is free but the programs that you actually need in it like Dolby Atmos for Headphones are NOT free. Some people will install this thinking they're getting Dolby Atmos Free but it's not. It's $14.99.

AMAZING SOUND!
Will turn any headphone into Dolby Surround sound (they suggest that you turn any DOLBY off on any headphones/headsets you're using). Just listen to the sound demos, it makes my Astro A40 TR & my Turtle Beach 800X sound even better. Highly Recommend, especially if you're an audiophile like me!!👍💪

Xbox One now supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio.
Just as Microsoft promised last fall, the Xbox One finally has support for next-generation audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X -- provided you have a recent home theater receiver that supports them. You just have to flip on the "bitstream passthrough" feature in the console's Blu-ray settings to get things going, which lets your receiver do all the audio decoding work.
The big difference with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, compared to older audio formats, is that they go beyond the traditional 5.1/7.1 speaker philosophy. Instead of sending sound to discrete channels, they're "object-based" formats that expand the sound field across all of your speakers. Notably, that includes speakers either mounted above you or with upward-firing capabilities that bounce sound off of your ceiling.
While they're both niche formats, there are plenty of Blu-ray titles on the market that support Atmos, like Mad Max: Fury Road, Jupiter Ascending and Game of Thrones . That codec should also pair nicely with the Xbox One S's 4K Blu-ray drive, as most UHD titles also include Atmos support. And of course, it'll likely be something the upcoming Project Scorpio supports as well.

Powerful Dolby Atmos Sound Coming to Xbox One and Windows 10.
“Justice rains from above!”
If you play Overwatch, that sentence may give you nightmares. It’s Pharah’s catch phrase as she hangs in the air and lets loose a barrage of rockets that destroy everything in their path. Pharah’s attack is so effective in part because you may not be able to tell where it’s coming from.
But I have a secret weapon to defend against Pharah’s barrage: Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is sound so precise you can pinpoint exactly where Pharah is and avoid her wrath. And the great news is that starting next year, Dolby Atmos will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs and tablets.
With Dolby Atmos, sound moves precisely all around and above you. You can hear where your allies and enemies are in three-dimensional space. Snipers on the roof? You’ll hear them over your left shoulder and know where to aim to take them out. The same goes for an attacker with a jet pack hovering behind you.
Beyond its tactical advantages, Dolby Atmos also makes your experience of a game much more intense. You’ll feel like you’re inside the action as the voices, sounds and music move all around you.
Xbox will be the first game console to feature Dolby Atmos and game developers are excited about using the new capabilities to make their games richer and more engaging. Atmos support for the Blu-ray app on Xbox is already available in Preview and will be released to GA soon – and we’re very excited now to offer Atmos support to games on Xbox One and Windows 10.
You’ll be able to experience Dolby Atmos in your home theater, assuming you have a Dolby Atmos enabled speaker system or soundbar. But you don’t need to have that kind of equipment – it will be possible to enable virtually any pair of headphones with the Dolby Atmos experience.
Mike Ybarra, Xbox’s Head of Platform Engineering, had this to say on our exciting partnership: “At Team Xbox, we are all gamers first, and bringing Dolby Atmos support to Xbox One and Windows 10 gaming next year will bring you even further inside the action and sound of your favorite titles. A big thank you to the team at Dolby for their partnership; we’re excited to share more with the Xbox community next year.”
Of course, Dolby Atmos is great for more than just games. The technology began in the cinema and many of Hollywood’s top films are available on Blu-ray disc or streaming with Dolby Atmos sound. With Dolby Atmos, you’re immersed in the movie like never before, with sounds moving all around you, just as it does in real life. You’ll get that immersive experience whether you’re playing a Dolby Atmos film on your Xbox One or a Windows 10 PC or tablet.
Xbox Blu-ray Bitstream Pass-Through.
This week Xbox also announced that Blu-ray Bitstream pass-through, which includes Dolby Atmos support on Xbox One and Xbox One S, would be rolling out to Xbox Preview members. This feature enables all Xbox consoles to pass Blu-ray audio data untouched to a user’s audio equipment, allowing your audio receiver or other audio device to produce a high quality, immersive sound experience.
A top fan-requested feature, it enables Xbox users who have invested in pro-audio set-ups to experience the best possible audio from their Blu-ray movies. To use this feature, you will need to have your console connected over HDMI to a compatible audio receiver which supports decoding of popular Blu-ray audio formats.
If you’re an Xbox Preview member, here are some helpful tips on how to enable:
Ensure your console is connected via HDMI to a device that supports decoding of Blu-ray audio formats. Make sure you have the latest Blu-ray player by checking the “Updates” tab under “My Games & Apps.” Enable “Let my receiver decode audio (beta)” under the “Disc & Blu-ray” settings page. Insert your favorite DVD or Blu-ray disc. Kick back and enjoy the highest quality audio from your movies and TV shows.
For more info for Xbox Preview Members, you can visit the forums here.
Dolby and Xbox will have more to share next year on timing and availability of Dolby Atmos for gaming audio. Enjoy!
Dolby Atmos Support finally available for Xbox One S.
Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology that was released in June of 2012, first for Pixar’s Brave. Later, Sony managed to bring support for Dolby Atmos to its PS4, with Xbox One fans disappointed because they felt left out. This year, Microsoft announced that its new Xbox One S console would receive support for this surround sound technology with the Windows 10 Creators Update. Major Nelson, Director of Programming for the Microsoft gaming network Xbox Live, just informed Xbox One S Preview users that the feature would start rolling out this week.
Gamers who are part of the Xbox One Preview Program will receive a new update that adds support Dolby Atmos to the Xbox One and Xbox One S. Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb announced that the feature, which was promised in October, is facilitated via Bitstream pass-through and can be found under Blu-Ray disc options under “Let my receiver decode audio (beta).”
The Xbox One S is 40% smaller than the original Xbox One and supports 4K TVs thanks to the new HDMI 2.0 standard which makes it possible for films and TV shows to be streamed at 60Hz. Also, the console has two USB ports, IR out on the front, optical audio out, as well as Ethernet while getting rid of the Kinect port. The device is available in three storage options: 500GB, 1TB and 2TB and is powered by an octa-core AMD custom CPU running at 1.75GHz, all of which is coupled with a Radeon GPU (increased from 853MHz to 914MHz) and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

The Xbox One S Will Support HDR10, But Dolby Atmos, Direct Bitstreaming, & DTS:X Support Remain Elusive.
More things to consider for UHD users.
October 26th 2016 Update: Audio bitstreaming has been promised as "coming soon" in an official announcement. That means Dolby Atmos support. (See here.)
August 2nd Update: We've reviewed the 2TB Xbox One S (see here) and gone deeper into the Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K video streaming experience (see here).
Ever since Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One S publically at the Xbox E3 2016 briefing, there have been questions regarding the system's UHD support. (See here.) With the new system tantalizing close to being in High-Def Digest hands, finding out how the system stacks up against both the original Xbox One and UHD HDR components like the Samsung UBD-K8500 is closer than ever.
For now, however, we do have the go-ahead to share some important answers that should intrigue those of among us who are early adopters of home theater tech.
While it may seem like a given considering that the system supports Ultra HD Disc playback, we can confirm that the Xbox One S will support HDR10. When asked about HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, a Microsoft Spokesperson responded, "The Xbox One S support HDR10 standards."
Inquiries regarding specific app support were met with the same answer, which lends credence to the idea that streaming UHD HDR support for the current stable of important video apps will be based on HDR10 but may not be ready for the system launch on August 2nd. In all likelihood, the Xbox One S will not support Dolby Vision-based HDR. This adherence to HDR10 only would put the Xbox One S in the same camp as the Samsung UBD-K8500. (At the very least, the Xbox One S will have 4K streaming from Netflix and Amazon.)
The current Xbox One does not support direct bitstreaming for audio formats. This limitation prevents users from enjoying the object-based audio formats, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. For now, it seems that the Ultra HD Blu-ray playback of the Xbox One S will carry with it a similar limitation. When asked if the Xbox One S support direct bitstreaming, Atmos, and DTS:X, a Microsoft Spokesperson responded, "Support for Dolby Atmos, Direct Bitstreaming and DTS:X is something the team is exploring but we don’t have anything to share just yet."
It's worth pointing out that I don't know of any specific hardware limitation that prevents either the Xbox One of Xbox One S from supporting direct bitstreaming. (And yes, direct bitstreaming was a feature that came with the PS3 slim.) While Atmos tracks on Blu-Rays and Ultra HD Blu-rays have blossomed in number over the past 18 months, we're still less than two years from the format's Blu-ray introduction. Currently, DTS:X is only available on a handful of discs and AVRs, but that will change in the coming months. If Microsoft could come through on Atmos and DTS:X support in the next few months, it would be greatly appreciated. A timeline and intention to support those formats could be given at any time, and ought to alleviate some of the frustration surrounding this issue.
Along these same lines of the Xbox One S media capabilities, Microsoft has nothing new to share with regards to a new Microsoft-produced media remote. "As far as a new media remote, we’re always looking for ways to create the best experience for fans but haven’t announced anything to date." That leaves companies like PDP on the hook for creating a media remote to beat the 2014 Xbox One Media Remote.
While these may not be the answers that I would have preferred, my current feeling about the Xbox One S beyond an overall new tech anticipation is a desire to see its HDR gaming capabilities put to work. We are looking at a TV environment where HDR will be in all models, or at least in all 4K models. Having HDR as a console feature could prove to be a consideration before too long.
