This guy turned an Xbox One S into a laptop. The Xbox One S is an impressive piece of hardware engineering, taking the hulking, VCR that was the original Xbox One and slimming it down to a dramatically smaller and modern-looking box. The Xbook One S manages to fit Xbox One S hardware into a laptop-sized case. But modder Edward Zarick has taken it one step further, with his appropriately named Xbook One S, that manages to fit the Xbox One S hardware into a laptop-sized case, complete with a 720p, 19-inch screen. And while the Xbook isn’t a true laptop — it still requires a constant power supply — it certainly is a more portable console than Microsoft’s original design. The design also keeps a port for 4K HDMI out, allowing the Xbook One S to still function as a regular console with 4K and HDR playback (assuming you have a compatible TV set). This isn’t Zarick’s first time creating consoles like this, with his website and YouTube channel boasting several earlier clamshell versions of both the original Xbox One (the Xbook One), PlayStation 4 (PlayBook 4), and perhaps most impressively, his PlayBox 4One, that manages to somehow cram both an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 into one housing. Zarick’s mods aren’t just cool modifications for YouTube videos though — they’re actually available for custom order from his website. The portable consoles come at a step premium over the $300 Xbox One S — the Xbook One S starts at $1,495 (shipping not included). Xbox One S review. Via: TechRadar Source: Ed's Junk. Those of you who have been on the Xbox scene for a long time probably know Team Xecuter. Team Xecuter is behind some of the most popular hardware mods for the Xbox 360. Although exploits have been confirmed for the Wii U and the PS4, The Xbox One hasn’t seen that much hacking activity lately. Partly because it is less popular than the Ps4 so far, but that might not be the only reason. I recently blogged about a year-old technique used in Indonesia to load the Xbox One with pirated AAA games. In the comments of that article, people mentioned that Team Xecuter might be working on some Xbox One hack, so I got curious and decided to verify. About a week ago, the administrator of Team Xecuter’s website posted the following: We have a few DoDo birds running around our TX HQ right now. I would love to share a picture of them, but they are very shy birds, and I don’t want to disturb them as they are busy working on new product for something that is called One….. That was as a reply to somebody stating that Team Xecuter’s products were similar to Dodo birds: extinct. So, it seems Team Xecuter are working on the Xbox One, but the admin added: Sadly, the way it stands i see in my crystal dodo bird ball, that wii u and ps4 will have products for it before xb1. I personally am upset about that, but lets face the truth xb1 is in second place, only thing that might save it is TX! When people asked if this was because of better security measures on the Xbox One, he replied: more like better lawyers or MIB people, already two of my close friends are behind bars because of the XB1, that never occured with big ‘N’ or the crab ‘Sony’ So to summarize, Team Xecuter are apparently working on Xbox One hacks, have already something (prototypes?) in progress but can’t show it yet, and they expect that PS4 and Wii U will be hacked way before we see anything for the PS4. That’s, err… not really committing much? People have mentioned that Team Xecuter have been trying to get more attention lately by dropping similar “we’re working on a XBone hack” statements, but that no proof has been given. What are your thoughts? We are constantly looking for guest bloggers at wololo.net. If you like to write, and have a strong interest in the console hacking scene, contact me either with a comment here, or in a PM on /talk! 25 Responses. Cool. Probably getthing a xboxone soon maybe. Don’t bother if you have a PS4 or PC. I use mine for a Time Warner digital cable box and little else. Wait a minute, you can get arrested for modding a console? For *** real? Apparently from xbox yes. Well I do mean that you changing stuff that would be with other people’s accounts right? and be able to get “free stuff” without paying correct? Eh, it’s TX, they release something when it’s ready. No use in them building up hype if it’s not even close to being ready. I rather have something released that can run unsigned code thoigh, even if I have to pay for it. Just being able to pirate games seems pointless now when you can do that on so many other playforms. Being personally involved with people who worked on the previous chips and hardware for the xbox360 I can tell you that… #1 team xecuter was sold to a third party a bit ago. #2 none of the originally team are working on anything other then controller mods currently. #3 from that end of the spectrum no movement has been made. #4 Yes it’s because it the security of the console, the only reason anyone has ended up in jail or sued is due to using stolen kits, stealing kits, hacking publishers, or other things…. There’s a single person I know with minor experience trying to mess with the Xbox One but not one person has made any sufficient or worthy movement on it… Barely anyone even has an activated devkit who is both experienced enough and interested in hacking the console. Typo. 2nd last paragraph. “Anything for the ps4” should read “anything for the xb1” With all these news articles about having system hacks and not putting anything out there, I feel as if people would believe me if I created a Console called One4U that plays Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U games with backward compatibility for PS3, PS2, PS1, PSP, Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii & GameCube….it also has FORWARD compatibility with the ability to reflash the firmware on it for when the next Xbox comes out, PS5 and Nintendo NX. Not only that, when you’re finished playing games on it, you can push a button and it will go make you a burrito and bring you a beer. It’s called a PC XD. I think the OP means that there will be hacks on PS4 and Wii U before there are any on XBOX one, but he didn’t say that (second to last paragraph). Great News for xbox one, tx had done a great job xbox 360 on the rgh side lets hope something similar is coming for xbone. Why would anyone waste time on a no games box? Utterly stupid comment, as much as I dislike the xbox it has plenty games for it, the only reason it got so far behind on sales was the stupid high price, the forced kinect at launch and the stupid drm before launch. heck, who cares… They are trying to say theyre working on something but actually have nothing at all to contribute to XB1. I dont know whos worse, someone whos trying to get attention for nothing or those who have something but dont release anything… Then theres those who report about it as if theres news when there isnt… By the time anything is out majority wont be able to utilize any of it anyways since we’ve all updated already and those with spare systems on old firmware will have a shiny paper weight for a long time to come from the looks of it.. Wheres the Geohots out there who arent scared to actually release something for PS4? geohot is scared lol ask him to try and break the ps4 and see what he says. All i can say is i use TX product for long 13 year and until now they still work,i’m 100% satisfed about TX products, and also is the only team that release a good quality dual nand xboxlive product for xbox360 with dswitch support and hight quality hw & software. also all time that i ask help to they in theyr forum they always helps me ,also i like about they that they give userfrendly easy product and also they give it with good quality box and support hw stuff. I hav use also trinand trident matrix, dual nand squirt etc. but TX dual nand demon is really the best and the beast. Well, they are not that friendly on there forum, and who the heck knows what is dswitch anyway 😕 It was never used by anyone. Other dual nand solutions are much cheaper and more user friendlier and also more reliable. I had like 3 demon chips DOA out of around 50. Which is not a very good ratio. What 15432 did was much better, enableing dal nand on ace v2 and ace v3 chips, doing rgh 1.2, all for free basically. While I have to admit and acknowledge tx for what they did in the past it seems to have come to a full stop since 2015 in essence. It won’t come from the original Team X people as they have ceased to be the website was sold to Max Louarn of divneo paradox maxconsole etc around 18 months ago. The orignal TX admin Paul Owen is now in America and was involved the rip off deal with Cronusmax. If you want to know more just ask me I know everything. Hey Gary, I doubt you’re ever going to check this again. If I’m not mistaken, you’re Gazza from ChannelTech? I finally got one of these newfangled Xboxs, so I thought I’d check out the state of all this, and was surprised to see your name along with Paul’s here. I remember way back, installing both of your PS2 chips, and him moving on to Enigmah and Xecutor semi-discretely. Interesting and unexpected trip down memory lane. Hope you’re doing well. Your blig is motivating me personally, I want to learn to build such website online. Xbox One Slims are encrypted, part of the problem is decryption TX has already bypassed everything else except the M$ wall. Currently the best methods are browser exploits and use of developer mode. What people want is hardware decryption for stuff like jtag, even if that were possible with todays generation of consoles 99% of all consoles would be locked out because of day one updates. It stands to reason you can’t even log into an Xbox One without going through a setup screen, surprise update installed. Xbox one s hack

Disclaimer: unlike certain prolific YouTubers and the like, this review is not based on a free review sample of the Xbox One S hardware. I preordered and purchased this console at launch myself, and this review is an honest assessment of whether I feel my hard-earned money was well spent. After enjoying obscene levels of success with the Xbox 360 last generation, Microsoft hasn’t quite dominated the industry this time around. Its Xbox One trails behind the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales, and while Nintendo’s own problems with the Wii U have ensured Microsoft’s system isn’t going to finish third any time soon, it’s clear the One needs a rocket up its arse if it’s going to catch up with the PS4. Enter the Xbox One S, the first of this generation’s obligatory system redesigns. Boasting a smaller frame, a new controller and support for 4K and HDR video, could the S be the console to overtake the PS4? No. It couldn’t. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t still a nifty wee piece of kit. I should know, I just traded in my original day one Xbox One to buy an S and have been messing around with it since. The console that is, you filthy bastard. The crucial questions are obvious – is it worth upgrading to the Xbox One S if you already have an Xbox One? And what if you don’t – is now finally the time to ‘jump in’, to coin a Microsoft slogan? Read on as I try to answer these questions and many more. Well, a couple more. The console. The Xbox One S is a beautiful bastard. Its new slimline white look is classy stuff and its circular vents look a lot better than the weird grills on the original Xbox One. It’s a lot smaller too. Not only is it significantly less cumbersome than the Xbox One, it’s also now even a tad smaller than the PlayStation 4. While it’s a little taller than Sony’s system, it isn’t as deep, meaning the PS4 is slightly bigger overall. The PS4 is a little shorter than the Xbox One S, but Microsoft’s console is still smaller. The materials are also an improvement, if not an overwhelming success. Gone is the bizarre two-material finish on the original Xbox One, and replacing it is what Microsoft is calling a ‘robot white’ finish, which essentially is matte white plastic. It feels nice to the touch, but – much like the original One before it – the console still feels hollow. You still worry if you stood on it your foot would easily burst right through it, not like the PS4 and its paperweight level sturdiness. There have been a couple of layout changes on the console itself. The side USB port has been moved to the front, while the power and disc open buttons are now physical, clicky buttons instead of touch-sensitive ones (no more frustrating ‘cat rubbing past and turning on the Xbox’ issues). Turn it on and run some games and it remains pleasantly quiet throughout: no mean feat considering the infamous Xbox One power brick is now completely gone, with just a (short) cable plugging from the console directly into your plug socket. The only two cables that come with the Xbox One S: a power cord and HDMI 2.0 cable. There’s also an IR blaster on the front which lets you control your TV or other devices through your Xbox. That feature used to be on Kinect instead, but the fact the Xbox One S doesn’t even have a Kinect port proves (as if there was any doubt) that Microsoft’s well and truly given up on it. “But I liked using Kinect Fitness ,” I hear precisely three of you in the world say. Don’t worry, there’s a ridiculously oversized adaptor that lets you use your Kinect on the Xbox One S. The horrendous two-part Kinect adapter for Xbox One S. Microsoft will send you one of these for free if you’re upgrading from the Xbox One to the S. There’s a slight catch, though. You need to have the serial numbers for your Kinect, your Xbox One S AND your original Xbox One handy, so if you’re trading in your One you’d better take a note of its serial number first. Otherwise, if you’re new to Xbox One or you don’t have your old serial number, you’re talking £30+ for the adaptor, so chances are that means your relationship with Kinect will be over. Finally, it’s worth pointing out that the Xbox One S has a new Wi-Fi receiver which can connect to 802.11ac routers for super fast communication – handy for local streaming and reducing online lag – but only if your router supports it. Otherwise it still connects to all the other usual router networking standards. The controller. The Xbox One S comes with a brand new controller, marking the third design for the standard pad (after the launch version and the updated one with improved shoulder buttons and a headphone port). The ridiculous £100+ Elite controller aside, this third iteration of the standard controller is easily the best to date. The shoulder buttons are nice and clicky, the D-pad has just the right level of sponginess and a very subtle textured grip has been added to the handles which will be perfect for those whose hands get sweaty during particularly stressful sessions (not like me, I’m cool as fuck). It’s also got bluetooth functionality added to it, which doesn’t mean a massive amount if you’re using it primarily as an Xbox One controller but does make it a lot easier to connect it wirelessly to a Windows 10 PC. If you’d rather, you can still use the old official wireless adapter or plug a standard USB cable into it and play wired. The only issue I have, and it’s one in which Microsoft has stubbornly refused to shift since the Xbox 360 originally launched, is that the controller still comes with two AA batteries and not a rechargeable battery pack. You’ll have to drop £20 on a Play & Charge kit if you want that benefit, though thankfully old ones from other Xbox One controllers still work, so if you’re trading in your Xbox One to get an S remember to pop the battery pack out of the controller first and replace it with some old AAs. Let the new owner deal with buying a rechargeable battery. Look, this is a cutthroat world. Transferring old data. If you’ve already been on board the good ship Xbox One and have accrued a load of games already, you may be a little concerned about the potential hassle of upgrading. After all, as anyone who’s ever upgraded from a 3DS to a 3DS XL or New 3DS will testify, the data transfer process can sometimes be massively time-consuming. What’s worse, it often requires both the old system and new system to be present, which is impossible if you’re trading in your old console to upgrade. Thankfully, Microsoft’s account set-up is a lot more flexible than Nintendo’s and transferring your data from the original Xbox One to the Xbox One S is as painless as practically possible. When you start up the Xbox One S, you’re asked to sign into your Microsoft account. After you do, all the digital Xbox One games you’ve ever bought (plus any backwards compatible Xbox 360 ones) are in a ‘Ready to install’ menu in the My Games & Apps section. My ‘ready to install’ menu. All you have to do is choose the games you want and they’ll be downloaded to your new system. Since the Xbox One automatically stores game saves in the Cloud, your progress will carry over too – thank Christ, because I’m at about 86% in Lego Dimensions and I’m not putting 200+ hours into the bastard again. Disc-based games enjoy this feature too: just pop the disc in and it’ll install on your new system while pulling your old save file from the Cloud. If you still have your old Xbox One and want to save a bit of time you can do what I did and move the games from your Xbox One’s internal storage onto an external USB hard drive (though bear in mind it has to hold 256GB or more and support USB 3.0). When you then set up the Xbox One S you can pop in the USB drive and reverse the process to transfer your games and apps to the S’s internal storage. This saves a lot of downloading time, especially if your library’s obscenely large. I managed to copy over 1TB of Xbox One games to my Xbox One S in one evening. Gaming in 4K. Right, here’s where things get interesting. The aesthetics are one thing but what’s really important is how the console itself runs. I’m going to get a bit technical here, so bear with me if you aren’t used to this sort of thing. The Xbox One S has a 1GB day one update which enables 4K support. The Xbox One S has had a slight performance upgrade – the GPU now runs at 914 MHz instead of 853MHz – which in practice doesn’t really affect the performance of Xbox One games (except for a few with unlocked frame rates, for which the frame rate rises slightly). Presumably part of this performance boost is so the Xbox One S can output at 2160p (or 4K, as it’s more commonly known). Before the Xbox fanboys among you start getting excited and going “ha, Sony said we can’t even do 1080p, who’s laughing now”, it’s not quite as simple as that. There are no Xbox One games that currently render natively at 4K, and there will be practically none, at least not for the One S. Microsoft has confirmed the option is there for developers, but since the power increase is only minor, 99% of games won’t be able to handle native 2160p output. You’re only talking potential indie games with Angry Birds’ level of graphical detail. Instead, think of the Xbox One S handling 4K gaming the same way the Xbox 360 handled 1080p. Almost none of the games on the 360 (bar a tiny handful) rendered games natively at 1080p, yet it supported 1080p output. That’s because it used hardware scaling to take a (usually) 720p game and scale it up to 1080p. The results were better than if you were playing on a 720p screen, but not quite 1080p quality. That’s pretty much the same situation here. The Xbox One S will take games that render natively at 1080p, 900p or what have you and use hardware scaling to upscale them to 2160p. The Xbox One S’s advanced video settings after the day one update. The resulting image is impressive, though quite how impressive depends on your TV. Oddly, it’s the better TVs that won’t show the difference so well. You see, not all 4K televisions are created equal. Since 4K TVs can’t switch between resolutions like HD TVs can, they have to figure out a way to upscale SD and HD content. Some TVs, like the modern Sony Bravia ones, have powerful upscaling algorithms which make 1080p content look great, whereas cheaper 4K TVs will show rough edges, artifacting (some coloured areas breaking up into little squares) and the like. The Xbox One S running a game at upscaled 2160p resolution. Don’t be concerned: because the Xbox One S does the upscaling for you and outputs at 4K resolution, you don’t have to worry about your TV’s upscaling abilities. Even a cheaper 4K telly with piss-poor upscaling should show games well because the One S is doing the work and sending it a 4K signal it doesn’t have to do anything with. My point is more that if your 4K TV already upscales really well, you may not be able to tell the difference between a 1080p game running on a normal Xbox One and a 2160p game running on an Xbox One S. I recently bought a Sony Bravia KD55X8509C, which incidentally I highly recommend if you’re looking for a 4K TV for gaming because the input lag is reasonably low (something most 4K displays are apparently struggling with at this early stage). Its upscaling is great, which means when I go into my Xbox One S’s settings and change the display output to 1080p the difference isn’t blatantly noticeable. Here’s my massively unscientific attempt to illustrate this, using my phone’s camera. I’ve taken extreme close-up photos of the display options menu from the Xbox One S, showing each option with its resolution applied. And here’s an extreme close-up of an icon on the main system hub. Same order again: 720p, then 1080p, then 4K UHD. As you can see, 720p is a tad softer upscaled to 4K, whereas there’s really not a lot in 1080p vs 4K. Like I say though, that’s because my TV already upscales from 1080p to 2160p well. If your 4K TV isn’t quite so hot at it then the differences will become more noticeable. Where the biggest impact should be found is when it comes to games which support HDR. This element can’t be reviewed yet because the first games that support HDR – Gears Of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 – aren’t out. But what exactly is HDR? Well, I’ll tell you, because there’s one big feature I haven’t mentioned yet and HDR is very much a part of it. 4K UHD Blu-ray player. Amazingly, the Xbox One S includes the ability to play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays. To be clear, this isn’t like the £150 Blu-ray players you see on Amazon which upscale regular Blu-rays to 4K resolution. This is a proper player that reads special 4K UHD discs, the ones that come in snazzy black boxes. At the time of writing, there are only two other 4K UHD players in the UK and the most notable costs £599. Yes, that’s an affiliate link, because God loves a trier. That the Xbox One S is ‘only’ £349 is a ridiculous bargain for anyone looking for a 4K UHD Blu-ray player. But how well does it play them? Well, it just so happens I have a few I recently purchased while in Canada. That’s right, Canada. You see, a little-known fact about 4K UHD Blu-rays is that they’re all region free, which means you can import from the US Amazon site and get some 4K UHD discs for prices similar to UK Blu-ray ones, even with the pound on its arse like it is. (Example: you can currently pre-order Labyrinth in 4K UHD from Amazon US for the equivalent of £15 plus shipping.) You’d be forgiven for thinking that being nearly half the price of the nearest competing 4K UHD player would mean the Xbox One S does a half-arsed job of playing 4K movies but it’s actually a pleasantly competent player. The quality obviously varies depending on the movie, mind, because not all films were actually shot on 4K or are sourced from 4K masters. Ghostbusters looks incredible on it – given its age some scenes are grainier than others, but that’s original grain that was shot in the first place. Simply put, it’s impossible to see this film at any better quality than 4K without some sort of computer-aided skullduggery. It’s hard to tell on photos taken with my phone, but trust me. The more recent Amazing Spider-Man 2, while not the greatest film in the world, looks significantly more impressive. You can see the stitching on Spidey’s costume in some shots, a level of detail that would be blurred on a Blu-ray. It’s so detailed, in fact, that you can blatantly tell when Spider-Man is a CGI character and not a man in a suit. Since many movie effects are rendered at 2K resolution, they stick out like a sore thumb with the added quality of 4K. The big addition though (as previously mentioned) is HDR, or High Dynamic Range. This is a new way of processing colours using a 10-bit spectrum rather than a standard 8-bit one. Techno-babble aside, this means a vastly superior range of colours – blacks are darker, whites are brighter and colours are a lot more vibrant and easily distinguishable. Not all 4K televisions support HDR. It’s a relatively new feature and though you can still watch 4K UHD Blu-rays on your Xbox One S, if your TV doesn’t support HDR you will miss out on the improved colour range. It’s also worth ensuring your TV is properly set up, something I spent a stressful hour discovering. Turns out my TV’s input settings are set to ‘standard HDMI’ as default, whereas HDR is only supported when this is changed to ‘advanced HDMI’. Thankfully, the Xbox One S has a useful screen telling you what your TV supports on its current settings. Should you buy one? Enough of all the shenanigans. You want to know if it’s worth buying an Xbox One S, because that’s the whole point of a review after all. The answer is… it depends. Do you have a 4K television or plan to buy one soon? If not, don’t buy the Xbox One S. The standard Xbox One is available much cheaper now and as long as you can put up with the extra size and smaller hard drive you won’t miss out if you have a 1080p telly. Are you a massive film buff curious about 4K movies? If so, the Xbox One S is a no-brainer. As the cheapest 4K player in the UK by £250 (and even more when the cheaper 1TB and 500GB models come out later) it’s a ridiculous bargain, one that makes 4K movie-watching much more affordable. Everything you get in the surprisingly small box – good luck getting it all back in there. Do you already own a standard Xbox One? If you don’t, you should maybe give the 500GB version of the Xbox One S some consideration. Launching at £250 it won’t cost much more than the standard One and its extra features make it a little more future-proof. But only a little. Because, ultimately, the elephant in the room is Scorpio, the super-powered Xbox One that’s due out at the end of 2017. Scorpio offers proper native 4K gaming and promises to be a vastly more powerful system than even the Xbox One S. If you can’t see yourself doing what I’m doing and buying the S for now so I can trade it in later for a Scorpio, then hold fire and stick with the standard Xbox One for now. Conclusion. The Xbox One S is a beautiful piece of kit. The fact it still uses the same operating system means it still has all the advantages and drawbacks the standard Xbox One does, so if you didn’t like the One this isn’t going to change your mind. 95% of current Xbox One owners won’t need it either. If you’re happy with your console as it is, there’s really no major need to upgrade to the S. The only exception is if you have a 4K television. This is the niche the Xbox One S was built for, and with a 4K Blu-ray player and Netflix 4K support out the box it’s clear that this is a system for 4K owners first and foremost. The best standard Xbox controller to date (haven’t tried the ridiculously expensive Elite controller yet) Personally, I’m happy with my purchase, thanks in particular to its 4K Blu-ray functionality and its enormous storage space, which has finally made the annoying external USB drive I had plugged into my launch Xbox One redundant. That said, I fully appreciate I’m in the minority, and if you’re still rocking a good 1080p television and happy with it then at this time there’s no reason to hop onto 4K yet. If you’re content being a 1080p gamer for now then hold fire for Scorpio, because that’s when the real leap up takes place. Xbox One S is more of a delightful hop for 4K early adopters looking for a little extra. Itching for another hardware review? I covered the New Nintendo 3DS in similar detail a while back, get stuck into that. If you enjoyed this article and want to see more, please consider contributing to my Patreon fund. I haven’t used the Elite yet but if imagine given its price and its sterling reviews it would be the better controller. Great informative review! I don’t have an XBox One, so this IS an option for me. I might just wait for Scorpio though, We’ll see. Yeah right, if they don’t want this then they must wait for Scorpio. Nobody wants a Neo. In fact Sony doesn’t even exist in the gaming world so Neo is an illusion. This is a review aimed at people thinking of buying an Xbox One. The PS4 is a completely different matter and one for another day. Only three paragraphs in I already state that the One S isn’t enough to topple the PS4. But I own and love both consoles so I’m not about to condemn one over the other as I sense you’d like me to do 😉 I’m not about to go down the fanboy route and tell people what to choose between an Xbox One or PS4. Both consoles are fantastic and there have been a million Xbox vs PlayStation articles out there so I’m not going to be able to contribute anything new to that by adding the 1,000,001st opinion. And I’m certainly not going to tell people whether they should buy a Neo or a Scorpio if we know literally nothing about either other than the fact they exist. That’ll be for another time 🙂 Great review Chris! It’s as I thought, I’ll be waiting for Scorpio as my Day One One is working perfectly and even though I have the same TV as you, I’m happy (and my wallet is happy) to wait until next year, although I will be a day one on the Scorpio. A quick question, how did you calibrate your TV, did you use a THX test disc or just by eye, as I find the detail in dark scenes a little lacking. xbox one s box size. thanks for the complete review! can you please tell me the dimensions of the box that the console comes in. thank you. This just makes me want one even more, dammit. Great review! I traded in my old VCR / Toaster Oven…er…Xbox One a few months ago and I’m glad I did. I didn’t have a 4K TV at the time, but I do now and just having a 4K TV alone is better than the standard HDTV I had, so when people ask me if there is a difference I just tell them “get a 4K TV” (I am not that savvy on TV stuff and my vision gets worse every year anyway). I love the updated controller and the smaller, sleeker white console just looks so much better in my living room. Brilliant review chris – I’m not a gamer so will be buying it for the blu ray player, which was great to hear the films are region free. Cheers man. Just to make sure you didn’t read it wrong though: only the fancy UHD 4K discs (the ones that come in black boxes) are region free. Normal DVDs and Blu-rays are still region-locked.

Didn’t get hacked until 2011. It take time, but there get there eventually. Until then my PC is a good alternative. PS3 hacks are super tedious… To do this you need that and to get that you need to do that first and to get that you need to jump off a bridge, and the process is just complicated. Wow not sure where you got that nonsense from. The ps3 hacking status hasnt changed for around 5 years now, and the steps to hack a ps3 are this: 1. Get a ps3 with firmware 3.55, 2. Install latest rebug custom firmware. Done. You actually makje it sem sso easy with your presentation but I find thios topic to be really something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and verry broad for me. I am looking forward for your next. post, I’ll try to get thhe hang of it! A lot easier than Xbox 360 hacks, they need modchips or custom firmware on the DVD drives.. Extremely tedious. pleas some one tell me. ITS BEEN YEARS and we JUST NOW have a userland exploit GG, Microsoft, GG. jailbreak not gonna happen same with ps4 if you encrypt all data and dont make dump mistakes it’s 100% secure. Yep. Same was said about the Xbox 360, PS3, and PS Vita… wow… low and behold. There they are… all able to play backups. Lets face it, that is what we ALL want on here… not to play Indie games… its is to pir8 games. Here is my advice. Either shut up, learn and contribute, or just follow step one, and shut up and wait. Either way. Just shut up. LMAO, do you truly believe that?? Anything man-made is exploitable. There will always be mistakes. Making absolute statements is for absolute fools. If you truly believe something is 100% secure, I feel very sorry for you!! The issue isn’t that the ps4 and xbone aren’t hackable, the issue is that any found exploits are being sold to Microsoft and Sony so they can be patched before they are generally known. We are living in an age of sellouts and the community that was once thriving is now basically gone because of it. Someone finds an exploit, has no intention of releasing it, creates a bunch of hype online and then cashes out with Sony or MS and we never hear from them again. IMHO, this is wrong and disgusting. The community was the only thing we had keeping MS and Sony in check and now they have all the power just so some people could get a quick payday. I really hope for a return to the hacking community once people realize how much that quick payday is really sc*** us all over but I am not optimistic that it will happen any time soon. Plz..hlp me how to hack x box one. hurry up jailbreak this please or i will sell my playstation one back to the shop how do i access internet on it to i heard there was a browser installed but all i can find is game and memory card some one help me please. Is it too hard to lay without cheats? Hacks ruin games. ps3 is better choice those days. good luck! I agree on comment about exploiters cashing out, no doubt Sony and MS would get groups to find exploits then patch. Also I believe if the method of using artificial intelligence to scan and cover possible mistakes wasn’t already used with PS4 and Xbox one it will be used in future consoles. Look up IBM Watson. Like some also noted PC for games as they are found cheaper (not pirated) and can be moded with cheats most being offline. I’m having lots of fun with GTA 5 and FiveM server. Xbox one s hack

Still have a question? Ask your own! “Ever” is a very long time. For some past consoles it took several years, but their anti-piracy measures have invariably been circumvented sooner or later. As far as I know, the record holder in that regard is the PS3, with 6–7 years since launch depending on how you define “hacked”. As for current gen systems… I haven’t heard of an Xbox One hack, but means to run pirate games on a PS4 have existed since at least 2015, if not earlier ( Brazilian pirates discover new hack for the PS4 ) and hacker groups have been able to run unlicensed code on a PS4 ( PS4 Hacked , PS4 Jailbreak is almost official ). No, you can’t play pirated games on PS4 because Sony took care of the piracy by not making them compatible somehow. Even if you download pirated games for PS4 you can’t open and install and play them right away. You need to “jailbreak” it and only then you can play pirated games- Google it and do as you like. But please try to buy the games and support the Game Creators. Xbox One will be hacked eventually, it's just a matter of time. We are seeing the rise of J-Tag devices which utilizes console's USB port to execute arbitrary codes. I know DRM has been saving Xbox One from being hacked but one interesting article which was published by CNET ( Ubisoft's controversial 'always on' PC DRM hacked - CNET ) shows how the DRM was removed permanently by the hackers. DRM cannot be hacked agreed but what if the DRM can be removed, I am sure this is something hackers are trying to figure. The more you secure a device the more time it will take to hack but it does not mean the Xbox One is secure and no one can hacked. Just wait and see. As a side note, you can play pirated movies you download on your computer and stream them over your home network via Windows Media Player to your Xbox One, but that's going to be about it. I don’t believe so, there have been a lot of bells and whistles put into pirated games, especially since the PS4 was developed. I’m sure there are custom builds out there that can do it. But it’s most likely, you won’t be able to. Microsoft has combated piracy problem for years on their consoles and now just like Xbox 360 which was considered to be more close to hacker than PlayStation 3, it seems Microsoft latest Xbox One console is also soon going to be hacked to play pirated media content and games . So no not yet at least but maybe soon. Hackaday. Enter the PlayBox, Where Microsoft and Sony Get Along. [Eddie Zarick] is a pretty eccentric case modder. So when a customer asked him for an Xbox One / Playstation 4 combo unit, he got excited. He calls it the PlayBOX 4ONE. Cute. He has managed to cram the guts of both the PS4 and Xbox One into a 22″ laptop-like shape — it is pretty chunky though. The power supply is internal, but obviously you can only turn on one system at a time. Surprisingly he was even able to keep the cooling systems intact! Both consoles still have full use of WiFi and have dedicated LAN ports available on the back of the system. Unfortunately, the Xbox USB ports weren’t so lucky — looks like you’re stuck with wireless Microsoft accessories only. To see how he did it, check out the following video. The Homebrew XBox 360 And PS3 portable. For the past few years now, [Downing] has been working on the dream of all console modders – a console made in the last ten years made portable. He’s spend a lot of time on the effort, and now thanks to a commission, he’s finally done it. Not just one console, either: this thing makes both the Xbox 360 and PS3 a handheld, battery-powered device thanks to some awesome wireless tech and a great deal of skill. A few months ago, [Downing] and friends [Hailrazer] and [RDC] started a Kickstarter for the Cross Plane, a portable device that uses a wireless HDMI transmitter to offload the heavy and hot parts of running a game to a console, while the display and controls are kept portable. That Kickstarter didn’t see the success [Downing] was looking for, but that didn’t stop one enthusiastic supporter from commissioning a piece. The display in the Cross Plane is a 7″ HD display, and the latency on the WHDMI transmitter is just about 1ms – basically unnoticeable. The controls on the front of the portable are wired to ‘controller packs’ that plug into the back, one for Xbox and one for PS3. The build quality is immaculate, and if you’ve ever wanted to know how to expertly finish a 3D printed part so it looks like it came off an assembly line, you should probably check out the build log. Video walkthrough below. Dr. Frankenstein’s Wireless Xbox One Steering Wheel. Buy an Xbox One controller and hack it immediately? That’s exactly what [tEEonE] did so he could merge it with a Simraceway SRW-S1 steering wheel. He loves racing games and was psyched to play Forza 5. He already had the steering wheel, but it’s strictly a PC peripheral. [tEEonE] wanted the wheel to control the steering, gas, and brakes and found both the XB1 controller and the SRW-S1 well-suited to the hack. For steering, [tEEonE] substituted the SRW-S1’s accelerometer for the XB1’s left joystick pot. He connected the X and Y to analog pins on an Arduino Pro. Then he mapped the rotation angles to voltage levels using a DAC and wired that to the XB1 joystick output. The XB1 controller uses Hall effect sensors and magnets on the triggers to control the gas and brake. He removed these and wired the SRW-S1 paddles to their outputs and the XB1 controller is none the wiser. He also rigged up a 3-point control system to control the sensitivity and calibrate the angles: a button to toggle through menu items and two touch modules to increment and decrement the value. These he wired up to a feedback interface made by reusing a 15-LED strip from the SRW-S1. Finally, he had space left inside the housing for the XB1’s big rumble motors and was able to attach the small motors to the gas and brake paddles with the help of some 3-D printed attachments. Check out this awesome hack in action after the break. Xbox One Headset 2.5 mm Plug Adapter. In all of Microsoft’s grand wisdom they found it necessary to make the new Xbox One headset adapter without a standard 2.5 mm headset jack. People have invested great amounts of money in quality headsets for previous game platforms that now cannot jack into the Xbox One controllers. This may seem like a déjà vu hack from a week ago but it is different and adds more solutions for the annoying Xbox One headset compatibility problem. [Jon Senkiw] A.K.A [Xandrel] wasn’t having any of this Microsoft nonsense so he cracked open the headset adapter case that plugs into the Xbox One controller. He photographed the PCB and wiring and realized he could fit a 2.5 mm headset jack from an old donor cellphone into the case. A dap of hot glue, some AWG 30 jumper wires and a bit of plastic trimming was all it took to get a jack inside the headset adapter just the way Microsoft should have done from the factory. Previously when [octanechicken] added a 2.5 mm female phone adapter at the end of the cable he did not connect the black wire to anything being it was the 2nd side of a push-pull speaker. However, from looking at [Jon’s] photos he connected the speaker output wire to a solder pad on the PCB where the black wire originally connected, marked HPL, and he had nothing connected to the HPR pad. This seemed to work for [Jon] just fine, but is the opposite of what [octanechicken] did last week when he connected the blue wire to the speaker output which would have traced back to the HPR pad on the PCB. This hack makes these controllers backwards compatible without too much issue being reported. If you have issues please report here or on [Jon’s] SE7ENSINS thread. He has also made comments on the thread that he is willing to help mod headsets, so if you’re not able to hack this yourself [Jon] might be willing to help. Using XBox One And PS4 Controllers With Everything. The controllers from the last generation of consoles served their purpose well. They were there for us when we wanted to experiment with an I2C bus, and they stood by when we wanted to build a quadcopter out of parts just lying around. A new generation of consoles is now upon us, and with them come new controllers. Controllers for which Arduino libraries haven’t been written yet. The horror. Until those libraries are developed, there’s ChronusMAX, a USB dongle that allows you to use XBox One controllers on a PS4, PS4 controllers on the XBox, mice and keyboards on both systems, and both types of controllers on your PC. The folks behind ChronusMAX put up a video demoing the XBox One controller working on the 360, PS3, and PC, with another video showing the same for the PS4 controller. As far as what we can see from the PC demos, everything on these controllers can be read, right down to the accelerometer data on the DualShock 4. Although this is a commercial product, we’re surprised we haven’t seen a more open version by now. From the looks of it, it’s a very small device with two USB ports and a firmware upload utility. Microcontrollers with two native USB ports are usually encased in large packages, so there might be some very clever engineering in this device. Let us know when someone does a teardown of one of these. Thanks [Josh] for sending this one in. 2.5 mm Jack Adapter for the Xbox One Headset. As most everyone knows the Xbox One came out last week and if you were one of the lucky few to get one you might have noticed the headset is quite uncomfortable and covers only one ear. [octanechicken] has a possible adapter solution that lets you plug-in an older more comfortable chat headset like a Turtle Beach. It is being reported as a functional hack by others in the comments; however it may still be questionable. We say questionable because the first release of this Instructable clearly had a flaw in the wiring, but updated text seems to have fixed that problem. Using a female 2.5 mm stereo inline jack [octanechicken] was able to get the Xbox One headset controller to work with older Xbox 360 chat headsets having a male 2.5 mm plug. The photos on the instructable are still incorrect so following the text instructions one simply unsolders the wires from within the ear piece and then solders the white wire to the tip connector, blue wire to the middle ring connector and the bare wire to the rear sleeve connector of the female 2.5 mm stereo inline jack. Remember to leave the black wire disconnected and covered with a bit of tape. If you cut the wires instead of unsoldering them, remember to scrape any varnish off before soldering. But what about that black wire? Ask Hackaday: What are we going to do with the new Kinect? Yesterday Microsoft announced their new cable box, the Xbox One. Included in the announcement is a vastly improved Kinect sensor. It won’t be available until next Christmas, but now the question is what are we going to do with it? From what initial specs that can be found, the new version of the Kinect will output RGB 1080p video over a USB 3.0 connection to the new Xbox. The IR depth camera of the original Kinect has been replaced with a time of flight camera – a camera that is able to send out a pulse of light and time how long it takes for photons to be reflected back to the camera. While there have been some inroads into making low-cost ToF cameras – namely Intel and Creative’s Interactive Gesture Camera Development Kit and the $250 DepthSense 325 from SoftKinetic – the Kinect 2.0 will be the first time of flight camera you’ll be able to buy for a few hundred bucks at any Walmart. We’ve seen a ton of awesome Kinect hacks over the years. Everything from a ‘holographic display’ that turns any TV into a 3D display, computer vision for robots, and a 3D scanner among others. A new Kinect sensor with better 3D resolution can only improve existing projects and the time of flight sensor – like the one found in Google’s driverless car – opens up the door for a whole bunch of new projects. So, readers of Hackaday, assuming someone can write a driver in a few days like the Kinect 1.0, what are we going to do with it? While we’re at it, keep in mind we made a call for Wii U controller hacks. If somebody can crack that nut, it’ll be an awesome remote for robots and FPV airplanes and drones. Simple Xbox One to 360 "hack" Introduction: Simple Xbox One to 360 "hack" Just a simple way to connect an Xbox One to a Xbox 360. I personally like to play Fallout or Skyrim while I'm waiting on a new match to start. 2 HDMI cords (One came with the xbox) And of course the consoles. Step 1: THE MOST COMPLICATED THING EVER (not Really) Look at the component cord for the 360. It should have a little plastic nub that when plugged in covers the HDMI port. That plastic nub has no function and is made of hollow plastic. We are going to need to saw this off. Carefully saw the nub off it doesn't take much. Step 2: CORDS. Now the easy parts. Plug in the first HDMI cord into the port on the Xbox One that is labeled for cable. Take the other end and put it into the newly opened HDMI port n the 360. The second cord goes into the port on the one labeled for tv yes the other end of this cord does go to your tv. Step 3: TESTING. Turn on both of your Xboxes and say "XBOX GO TO TV". After a few seconds (sometimes a bit longer) it should play through your TV. If it says that the TV signal was lost or something of that nature use the HDMI cord that came with your Xbox One to link them together. That usually works. Sometimes you might have to jiggle the cord a bit. (DON"T TELL MICROSOFT THE SUPPORT TEAM FREAK OUT) Did you make this project? Share it with us! Recommendations. Lightning Bolt Through Light Bulb. I wouldn't have gone through all this trouble if there wasn't a reason behind it. I needed the input cables still because that's how my headset gets the game sounds. I didn't want to shell out a decent amount of money trying to replace my headset that still works. I got my tv for 78$ yes it's not the best but it's fine for right now. If I get more HDMI devices I will purchase the multiple HDMI adapter which is once again cheaper than a new tv or headset. Surprisingly my tv has great picture quality and that's what matters most. defiance74 3 years ago. Why go through the trouble of hacking off the nub when you can just use the HDMI out from the 360 into the One to begin with? What am I missing? Why would anyone use the component out on the 360 if they have HDMI as an option? flame the wolf 3 years ago. I have the component cable set up for my headset. I have an old Turtle Beach headset that used the component cables as a hook up. Also this way I can use my 360 without having the Xbox One on. defiance74 3 years ago. Ah, I see now. Thanks for the clarification! I had read right over the part about needing the component for the headset. slowenuff 3 years ago. It's better that both have their own dedicated hdmi connection. Running the 360 through the xbox one means using more electricity as you have to have both on at the same time to work. flame the wolf 3 years ago. I'm aware it takes more electricity to run both at the same time. I don't have a cable box to plug in to my Xbox One. I figured that when I was waiting on finding games or something of that nature I would have a snapable option to keep me busy. I dont have both on all the time either usually it's one or the other. I still have the component connection for my 360 headset so I wanted to leave the ability to have both plugged in. My TV is also pretty low end so I only have one hdmi port so this works better for me. slowenuff 3 years ago. Let me ask you this, did you pay for the hdmi cables and if so how much? The reason I ask is that if you have $20 you can get an hdmi switch from newegg that would allow you to connect 3 devices up. flame the wolf 3 years ago. One came with the Xbox and I had gotten the other was given to me when I bought my tv. Thank you for the info though if I get another device I will look into it. Thanks again for the input. :) flame the wolf 3 years ago. Wow look at all my typos. that was supposed to read "and I had gotten the other when I bought my tv". I was typing on my phone and sometimes it auto corrects single letters into words. -_- How to Put and Play DVD onto Xbox One without any region code restrictions?
