Overall Customer Rating. adapter ( 421 ) Customer Image Gallery. Most Helpful Reviews. More Useful than advertised. I picked this up today because I have 2 turtle beach headsets that have been sitting in a box due to their incompatibility with the x1. Once I updated my controllers to be able to use the adapter, it was a cinch to get my turtle beach working with the x1. Now what I didn't know was that if I took my Razer Electra headphones with the in-line microphone and hooked them up to the adaptor, not only do I get game audio, but it also recognizes the mic on it , allowing me to chat with it. This is awesome because I less cumbersome to use my razer headphone than my turtle beaches. The adaptor also has buttons that allow you to mix between the game audio and the chat audio, which is a feature that I liked from the turtle beach headsets. The only issue I see is that the xbox could use an equalizer for the adaptor. While the audio is good, it is kind of bland. Granted this could be fixed in a later update on the x1, but for the time being, this issue isn't something that should keep you from purchasing it. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Great for Cell Phone Headsets. Some facts you need to know about this headset: * Has a 3.5mm jack which allows you to use most modern cell phone headsets * Make sure your jack has 3 lines (see picture I included) this is for left audio, right audio, and your mic * Includes a cable to convert the jack down to 2.5mm to use with 360, certain legacy console / phone headsets * Game audio will feed to your headset in addition to chat (new feature and big draw for me) I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Not very durable. I have purchased 3 of these for my son. They only last about 2 weeks before the small gauge wire begins to short out and fail. This is a Microsoft problem, not a Best Buy problem. This appears to be the only option available to adapt third party headsets with the XBOX ONE. If you are a heavy gamer, be prepared to purchase this adapter often. No, I would not recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Works good , but it is kinda obnoxious that microsoft made you pay to use your old headsets. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Good adapter, on par with PS4's similar feature. For full disclosure: my review of this controller adapter is colored by my experience of a similar feature built into the PS4 controller. I have both consoles. I usually prefer Xbox over Playstation, but I believe my assessment of this adapter is unbiased by my preferences. --- This adapter not only lets you use your 3.5mm and 2.5mm (with included cable) jacked headsets, it also serves live stereo audio from your game, movie, or TV to the headset. To me, this is the prime feature. For a headset to work this way, it needs to be a "smartphone" style headset/earphoes. The best way to determine this is to count how many black rings are on your headset plug. Three is a smartphone headset with a mic. (Two is only stereo.) I use a Skullcandy headset with a microphone in-line. Other gaming headsets may or may not work well with this adapter. Surround sound headsets with a secondary 2.5mm cable for chat capability will only be able to take advantage of chat functions. Rely on your normal method for getting game audio. The next best feature of this adapter is the audio mixing capability. Buttons on the adapter allow you to modify the mix between game and chat audio. When adjusting, one side rises until both sides are equally loud, and then the other source starts to decrease. There is also a master volume control that increases or decreases the mixed volume. This is a feature that the PS4 controller fails to provide with such ease, requiring a manual adjustment in the device settings. The negatives are that the sound can drop out if the signal gets obstructed. I sit about 15-20 feet from the Xbox One, and if I obstruct the signal with my body, I can get the signal to become intermittent. However, in normal practice, this is a non-issue for me. It is merely a limitation at the edge of being troublesome. Odds are that most users will not notice this unless they have excessive obstruction. I have not had this issue with PS4, at least as far as I have noticed. Also, the controller requires an "update". There is a firmware on the controller itself and the adapter comes with a sheet that walks through updating the controller. And if you are having trouble getting the instructions to pop up on screen, there is a controller update option in the settings app under system. I had to find this myself. In a few more notes of comparison, the PS4 implementation of this feature is built into the controller, meaning the cost of this feature is increased by the cost of this adapter on the Xbox One. Also, I have not seen any such audio drops on the PS4 controller. Also, the PS4 can automatically mute audio when the controller audio is active. If you want to silence your TV with the Xbox One, you have to do that manually, by saying "Xbox, Mute" or using your remote. I believe the negatives and the positives of both implementations balance each other out and Microsoft's answer to Sony's headset functionality is a worthy answer. While Microsoft provides a more feature rich implementation, the Sony solution is more refined and built in. Aside from comparisons, I have to dock the adapter a star for difficulty upgrading the controller and for the slight audio issue, but it still comes highly recommended if your case is one that would benefit from these features. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. Poor Quality. I had this product for just over a month and the 3.5mm to 2.5mm conversion cord became frayed on the inside which made the product unusable for my headset. Terrible build quality Microsoft needs to re-release the Wireless over the ear headset like the original 360 microphone. No, I would not recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. It works as expected. This adapter is needed if you want to use your Xbox 360 headset with the new Xbox One in order to chat with friends online. If you never chat then this is not needed. For those who will be using this adapter with a wireless headset with receiver such as the Turtle Beach X41/X42, XP510/Earforce Tango etc. Make sure to adjust the 'game' sound on the adapter to off. You can do this by turning the 'chat' sound all the way up until you hear the chime/beep. This will avoid you from hearing feedback/distortion as your game sounds will come from your receiver. If you own a Turtle Beach headset, set it up the same way you did with your Xbox 360. You can either connect it to your TV or the Xbox One, it's your choice. Set the chat on the cable cord to on and full volume. From now on you will control the volume with the adapter. Turn the game volume on the adapter off as explained above. You will need to follow the Xbox One or Turtle Beach guides (check their websites) to set up the Xbox One sound setting. If you don't do this correctly you will not hear any sound. One last tip - the adapter cable that ships with the product is quite thin and there have been reports that it stops working after a few months of use. Ienza sells a replacement cable on Amazon that is thick and highly durable. I picked up a pair of replacement cables for about $5 ea. shipped. I would recommend this to a friend. Please try again later. did not last. This Xbox one adapter stopped working after 20 days of purchase. Luckily I got my money back because of a holiday special on returns. Do not buy. Set up and use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter lets you plug a compatible chat or stereo headset into the Xbox One Controller so you can control your audio experience without taking your hands off the controller. The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter package includes: Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter 2.5-mm-to-3.5-mm adapter USB cable to update the controller Quick start guide and manual. As of June 2015, Xbox One Wireless Controllers include a 3.5-mm port that lets you directly connect a standard 3.5-mm audio cable. When you connect a headset directly, you can adjust audio control by going to Settings and selecting Devices and Accessories . Just select the controller you're using and adjust the audio from there. When you use a Stereo Headset Adapter, these options are disabled, since you can control audio right from the adapter. Not all headsets are compatible with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. For details, see Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One. On this page. Follow these steps to install the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter with a headset: Follow the steps at Update your Xbox One Controller to make sure your controller is ready to work with the Stereo Headset Adapter. Insert the Stereo Headset Adapter into the bottom of your Xbox One controller. Insert the headset's audio plug into the bottom of the headset adapter. The adapter supports the following 3.5-mm audio headset types: A single 3.5-mm audio cable headset A dual 3.5-mm audio cable headset with 3.5-mm CTIA audio cables A headset with chat audio provided via a 3.5-mm audio cable and game audio provided via a separate cable with RCA or optical connectors. (Only chat audio will be enabled through the Stereo Headset Adapter. For RCA/optical connectors [game audio], follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect to the console.) An Xbox 360 Wired Headset with a 2.5-mm audio cable. Connect to the Stereo Headset Adapter by using the 2.5-mm-to-3.5mm adapter that's included with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. Game balance Chat balance Volume up Volume down Mute. Game/Chat balance: These two buttons adjust the mix of game audio versus chat audio. At default, the mix is 50/50, but you can adjust it to anywhere from 100/0 to 0/100. For example, if you want more game volume than chat volume, press the button with the controller icon until you reach the level you want. A tone will sound when you have reached 100 percent. Note You might also have game audio coming from your TV. If you don't want to hear the audio from your TV, simply turn down the volume on your TV. (When you plug a headset into your controller, this does not automatically mute or adjust the sound from the TV.) Mute: This button mutes your chat audio so other users can't hear you. It doesn't mute game/music/app audio. This button has an orange LED to indicate that you’re muted. This LED lights up only if you plug a headset into the adapter. Volume: Volume up and down buttons control all audio coming to your headset, including game and chat audio. If you don't want to increase both game and chat audio at the same rate, adjust your game/chat audio balance (see "Game/Chat balance," above). Update your Xbox One Controller. When you update your controller with the latest software, you get full use of your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter capabilities, plus important controller improvements. You can update your controller wirelessly or via USB. For assistance with troubleshooting update issues, see Troubleshoot update issues with your Xbox One Controller. On this page. An Xbox One Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting via USB cable. This controller has a small, circular 3.5-mm port on the bottom of the controller; controllers without this port must update via USB cable. Follow these steps to update your controller wirelessly and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter: Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so. If you have a stereo headset adapter, plug it into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on). Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select System > Kinect & devices > Devices & accessories , and then select the controller you want to update. Select Device info , select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue . When the update is complete, you can update additional controllers. If they can only be updated via USB, see Update via USB. Otherwise, select the Update another button on the screen after the first update is complete, and then follow the steps. The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you plugged your stereo headset adapter into the controller while downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To resolve this, go to the Home screen and unplug the adapter. Then, re-plug the adapter into the controller. You only need to update your controller one time to use the stereo headset adapter. However, if you plan to use the stereo headset adapter with other Xbox One controllers, you’ll need to follow this process for each controller. Additionally, check for new updates periodically as Xbox frequently ships new controller features and improvements. If you try to update a controller that was already updated, the system will check the controller and proceed to the success screen within a few seconds to indicate that it’s already updated. Follow these steps to update your controller via USB and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter: Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so. If you have one, plug the stereo headset adapter into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on). Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc tray. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller. Instructions to install the update should automatically appear. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. (The process can take up to 3 minutes.) If instructions to install the update don’t automatically appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press the Xbox button to open the guide, select System > Kinect & devices > Devices & accessories , and then select the controller you want to update. Select Device info , select the Firmware version box, and then select Continue . When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a time, select the Update another button on the screen, and then follow the steps. Press the Xbox button on the wireless controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up to date, and you’re ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. If you have more than one controller connected via USB cable, the update will tell you to disconnect the other controller and update just one controller at a time. Update your controller on a Windows 10 PC by using the Xbox Accessories app: Get the app from Microsoft Windows 10 by searching for "Xbox Accessories." Launch the Xbox Accessories app. Connect your Xbox One Wireless Controller by using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. Note You'll be prompted to update to Windows 10 Anniversary Edition if you haven't yet done so. When the controller is connected, you'll see the message Update Required if an update is mandatory. Install the update. Note You can also go to Device Info to check for an update. The Xbox Accessories app is available only on Windows 10. Controllers that don't have a built-in 3.5-mm audio port must be updated using a USB connection and must have the Windows 10 TH2 Update (or later). Updating the controller over Bluetooth is not supported. Bluetooth requires a PC running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. See Windows Update: FAQ to learn how to get the latest Windows update. Update Feb. 11 at 3:20 p.m. PT: We realize you might have some questions, so we hope this helps provide some clarification: Legacy gaming headsets receive game audio from the back of the console from the S/PDIF port, and receive chat audio by connecting the 2.5 mm chat cable to the adapter. New Xbox One Stereo Headsets receive chat and stereo directly from the adapter. There is no need to connect anything to the console. Any 3.5 mm stereo headset (that uses the CTIA plug standard) can receive stereo game audio by plugging into the adapter. Customer reviews. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. This will fix the occasional "crackling" problem. 7)* For some reason this adapter makes the MICROPHONES SUPER SENSITIVE. If you're in a party and YOUR FRIENDS ARE COMPLAINING THAT YOUR MIC SOUNDS BAD/LOUD you simply need to move the mic farther from your mouth (6" worked for me) and talk in a normal volume. This stops the "poor" quality microphone sound from occurring. I was told this issue may be getting fixed in an upcoming firmware update. Microsoft Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. Works with any headphones or headset with a 3.5mm connection. Functional buttons. Only necessary because Microsoft designed the Xbox One without a built-in headset port or Bluetooth. The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter lets you connect your own headphones or headset to your Xbox One gamepad. The Microsoft Xbox One already comes with a headset, but it's not a particularly good one. It's monaural and feels flimsy. Unfortunately, you can't just plug your own headset into the Xbox One gamepad like you can the included headset, and without Bluetooth you can't use a wireless headset easily. Microsoft has a solution to that: the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. It's a chunk of plastic that plugs into the bottom of your Xbox One gamepad, and lets you use any headset or headphone pair with a 3.5mm connection. It's simple, inexpensive, and functional, standing alongside the Xbox One Media Remote as another excellent first-party Xbox One accessory. Of course, it's notable that the Sony PlayStation 4's controller has a 3.5mm jack built into it without the need for an adapter. The front of the adapter holds five buttons. Two adjust the balance between game and chat audio, two control the volume, and one mutes the headset's microphone. The Xbox One's included headset just has three buttons on the connector, for adjusting volume and muting the mic. The game and chat balance buttons are new, and a welcome adjustment for players who want to hear more of the game or more of their teammates. If the included monaural headset that comes with the Xbox One isn't enough for you, and you don't want to use the Kinect for voice chat or recording commentary on game footage, the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter is a must-have accessory. It does exactly what it says it does: lets you use any headset with a 3.5mm connector with the Xbox One gamepad. It's yet another first-party Xbox One add-on, like the Xbox One Media Remote, that's well-designed, functional, and affordable. Microsoft Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. Bottom Line: The Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter lets you connect your own headphones or headset to your Xbox One gamepad. About the Author.
