Xbox One Multiplayer and Chat Connection Issues. Some users are reporting Xbox Live connection issues, specifically related to party chat and online multiplayer games. This page collects the most common issues and tips on how to solve them. EditUnable to Party Chat or Play Online Multiplayer. Issue: I am able to connect to Xbox Live, download games, accept friend requests and message them, but I am unable to connect with others to play online or hear or talk to others in party chat. However, everything works fine on Xbox 360. EditYour NAT Type is set to Strict. Unlike Xbox 360, Xbox One requires your NAT (Network Address Translation) Type to be set to Open.  On the Network settings screen, under Current Network Status, check what NAT type you've got. If your wireless is connected and your NAT Type displays Strict, this is the cause of your connection trouble.  Many users are encountering this issue specifically with Apple Airport wireless routers. To make your Xbox One work with your AirPort, Time Capsule, or AirPort Extreme, take these steps: 1. Access Airport Utility. Update your Airport Firmware. Access your Airport software, command-click on the device and check for the latest Firmware. Install it if a newer version is available. 2. If this step did not fix your issue, in the Airport Admin/Utility, click on your base station/router and then edit. Depending on your version/network, now either access Advanced and Select iPv6, then flag "Allow Teredo Tunnels" -- or click the Network tab, then Network Options and check "Allow Teredo tunnels." This should solve your connection issue. EditYou're Running Two Gateways. If you've got a router connected to a gateway that's also a combined modem/router (eg: Netgear CGD24G), you may run into connection issues since both devices run NAT. You need to only have one router/NAT that connects directly to your console and the gateway. The way to fix this is to switch the router to Bridge mode. You can contact your ISP for help with this and make your router operate as a standard modem. If this not an option, you have to consider which device to keep, since you can't use them both, at the same time. EditPARTY CHAT IS TURNED OFF. You can either go to the party app from the home screen, say "Xbox Go To Party", or snap the party (say "Xbox Snap Party").  Within the party window, you should see various options including "Turn Party Chat On."  Basically, the new party system will allow you to party up with your friends for joining games, but by default, the game chat is turned on and party chat is turned off.   EditPARTY CHAT won't TURN on (Battlefield 4) There is a known issue with Battlefield 4 where users are unable to turn party chat on while Battlefield 4 is running.  Until a patch is sent, the current work around is to turn on party chat before running Battlefield 4, or, if Battlefield 4 is currently running, to close it down. To close Battlefield 4 (or any app), go to the home screen (Xbox One Button), highlight the app (usually in the main window), and press the menu button (former start button).  There should be an option to "quit."  When the app is closed, party chat should turn on without issue. EditSkype as Party Chat. Users favoring traditional 360-type party chat might want to use Skype.  The new Xbox One Party system is geared towards SmartMatch and group gaming. Users trying to play different games may be greeted by constant invites into one or more games.  For example, one user may be playing Dead Rising 3 and will be greeted with an invite into Battlefield 4 Team Deathmatch where the rest of the party members are playing. Xbox One April System Update Preview Adds Chat Improvements. Xbox One Preview program members will see improvements to party chat and achievement notifications in the first of two updates rolling out today, with the second coming next week according to Major Nelson’s blog. The party chat improvements come based on feedback from Xbox One owners. The Party App will now help users enable microphones and will display issues preventing chat from working with party members. Microsoft is also including descriptions for achievements in notifications so users can see what they’ve earned without having to open the achievements app. The achievements app has also been improved and should load from notifications faster. Lastly, this first wave will see improvements in discoverability within game hub links. Users will be able to see activity feed items if friends follow a game and will be able to navigate to a game’s hub from activity feed posts. Microsoft also added links to game hubs for games in the achievement app. Microsoft recently added the ability to take screenshots and introduced a new suggested friends feature with the Xbox One March system update. It also included party chat enhancements featuring icons to show a user’s microphone status, tile transparency, voice search privacy, and the ability to report spam.
