46 New Apps Coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Microsoft has announced it's set to launch 46 new apps across the globe for Xbox One and Xbox 360 in the near future.
This will raise the number of apps available on the platforms by 25 percent to around 225 apps, depending on where you live in the world.
Key additions that have been highlighted include Twitter integration in North America, to allow you to see Tweets related to the cable or satellite show you're watching in real time. Similarly, this functionality will extend to the listings sections of the OneGuide, hopefully offering you some easy recommendations on what to watch. A new Vine app is also in development, the first made for TV, which is set to allow you to watch videos as well as share gameplay videos from the Upload Studio.

Best Music Apps for Xbox One.
When the Xbox One first debuted back in 2013, Microsoft drove home its focus as an "all-in-one" hub for home entertainment. While over time the console's focus has shifted back to its gaming roots, the breadth of the platform is still evident to this day.
Some major changes have been made to the Xbox One since launch – one of those being the unification of the Xbox Store with its Windows counterpart. A compelling range of music apps has debuted on the console, offering their services as a backdrop to your gaming experience. We've rounded up the best music apps available on Xbox One today, all which take advantage of background audio playback.
One of the world's leading music streaming services is finally available on Xbox One! Similar in nature to its PlayStation 4 counterpart, the Spotify app provides full access to its extensive music catalog, while also tapping into the defining features of the service.
Spotify for Xbox can be used by both free users and those subscribed to the Premium service. Throughout the Xbox app, Premium users are treated to the same benefits expected from other platforms, including full playback control, no advertisements, and support for the Spotify Connect technology. Best of all, Spotify also takes advantage of the Xbox One's background music playback to complement your gaming experiences. As one of the most popular services on the market today, the Spotify is a great way to instantly bring your existing collection into the living room.
Soundcloud.
Soundcloud is a community-driven music platform, designed to accommodate both established and upcoming musicians. Blending together traits of both a streaming service and social network, the service allows creators to easily upload their own tracks and share them across the globe. Also providing tools to discover and interact with artists on a more personal level, Soundcloud brings together a community quite unlike any other service.
With official Xbox One and Windows 10 apps recently added to the lineup, both platforms now have direct access to Soundcloud's network of creators and the music on offer. With options to filter through your "Stream," search for specific artists or find new music entirely, the Xbox One application now encapsulates the core offerings of the Soundcloud experience.
By signing into your account, your music can also be taken on the go, with content automatically syncing between your devices. Best of all, the application also supports background music for Xbox One, providing the ability to listen to your library alongside the latest game releases.
Groove Music.
If you're looking for a music application built from the ground up with Xbox One in mind, it's hard to beat Groove Music. Microsoft's own in-house music streaming platform has established itself across the company's ecosystem in recent years and become tightly integrated into its devices. Having fully adopted the Universal Windows Platform, you'll be getting a premium Groove Music experience that essentially matches its Windows 10 counterpart.
While its actual music offerings can sometimes be limited in comparison to other major services, Groove still offers millions of the latest hits and classics. Furthermore, if a track you're looking for isn't available via Groove Music, any MP3 version can be uploaded to your OneDrive cloud storage and streamed over the internet. Groove Music also provides support for background audio on Xbox One.
"MyTube!" is an app that perfectly showcases the power of universal Windows apps, embracing some of the best traits of the platform. While YouTube has seemingly abandoned its Xbox One efforts, MyTube! is a streamlined third-party solution that surpasses the official application in almost every way. After a $0.99 purchase, MyTube provides access to the core video playback and community features of YouTube, through a simple interface designed with Xbox One in mind.
But why are we including this in a music app round up? MyTube also takes advantage of background audio functionality, allowing audio to continue playing after exiting the app. While the official YouTube apps prevent this outside of a YouTube Red subscription, Xbox One users can leverage this feature for free. Simply queue up a playlist of videos, boot up a game and work your way through your favorite tunes.
Pandora has managed to lose traction as a competitive music streaming service in recent years. However, it still offers a wide range of music for its listeners. With basic music streaming and an advanced set of recommendation features, the service distances itself from competitors with some small, yet unique traits. While services like Apple Music and Spotify are generally regarded as the market leaders, Pandora is one of the few services with a purpose-built universal app for Xbox One.
Despite Pandora only offering its services in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, the Xbox One app is a great way to continue your experience while gaming. Other services can undeniably provide a larger offering of tracks, but the app should still be welcome with existing subscriptions. The app also supports Xbox One background audio, to continue your tracks in-game.
Moodflow isn't your traditional music application but stands out with a unique idea at its heart. As the name suggests, Moodflow curates playlists of mixed genres, based on your chosen mood. Utilizing Soundcloud to serve up its tracks, the app is a great way to discover new songs and artists in a rather unconventional way. Although you'll have to pay $1.99 to unlock unlimited skips per day, its concept alone may be enticing to avid music fans.
Updated August 16, 2017: Added the latest arrival to the Xbox One music scene, Spotify.

Another way for users to access Fitbit’s paid workout content.
Now that FitStar's transition to Fitbit Coach is officially complete, Fitbit is expanding the devices that support its revamped personal training app. The company announced that the Fitbit Coach apps for Windows 10 and Xbox One devices will be available for download later today.
Fitbit owned FitStar for a while before it announced its impending transformation into Fitbit Coach last year. The app, which is separate from the main Fitbit app that all of the company's wearables connect to, holds guided workouts, video routines, and other personalized fitness programs.
Fitbit built off of FitStar's previous offerings and added more content that customers can access fully with a $39.99-per-year Premium subscription. There are some routines that users can access for free after downloading the app (which is free to download as well), but most of the content lies behind Fitbit's paywall.
Until now, Fitbit Coach was only available on iOS and Android devices, sequestered to the small screens that most of those devices have. Versions of Fitbit Coach workouts packed with GIFs are also available on the Ionic smartwatch, using its smartwatch-sized display. With the new Windows 10 and Xbox One apps, users can access Fitbit Coach workouts on their laptops, convertibles, and even their TVs.
While users can complete Fitbit Coach routines without pairing a Fitbit device to the app, the programs are meant to be tracked with a Fitbit device. Users will even be able to see their real-time, continuous heart rate on their PC or TV screen when using the new Windows 10 or Xbox One apps and a paired heart-rate monitoring Fitbit device. That way, you won't have to keep flicking your wrist to check your heart rate during a workout because your pulse will appear in front of you, next to the coach guiding you on the display.
Fitbit Coach was already fairly accessible, but opening the platform up to Windows 10 and Xbox One could make the program more intriguing for those who prefer working out at home (or those who simply don't want to have to squint at their smartphones while exercising). It also raises the question of how much effort Fitbit will continue to put into Coach in the future. There are no signs that the company will stop making wearable devices any time soon (rumors of the company making a wearable for children are swirling). But it's possible that Fitbit will try to draw in more customers with its membership-based Coach content, no matter if they already own a Fitbit device or not.

Kodi is now available on Xbox One.
A return to its roots.
Kodi, the hugely popular media player, is now available to download for the Xbox One. This is great news for Xbox One users, as the Kodi software is an incredibly flexible and versatile media player, mainly thanks to its large range of third party add-ons that can turn it into a DVR, allow it to stream from various sources and broadcast live TV.
The best part of this news, which was published on the Kodi website, is that Kodi can be easily downloaded onto your Xbox One from the Microsoft Store, making the process as easy as possible.
However, as the Kodi team states on the website, because it is a UWP (Universal Windows Platform) app, which is tightly controlled by Microsoft, it does mean some features are limited, such as network support, while access to the Xbox One's Blu-ray drive is not supported.
The Kodi app for the Xbox One is also still in its early stages, so you may encounter a few rough edges.
Back to where it all began.
Kodi’s arrival on the Xbox One is quite symbolic, as the Kodi project began life as the Xbox Media Player for the original Xbox console (the software was later known as the Xbox Media Center, then XBMC).
XBMC evolved beyond the Xbox and was soon available for Linux, Windows, OSX, Android and many other devices, and in 2014 it was renamed Kodi.
Microsoft’s desire to include UWP apps on the Xbox One, as well as Windows 10 devices, has given the Kodi team the ability to bring its software back to the platform it all started from, and makes the Xbox One an even more powerful media player.

Best Xbox One apps: 10 Xbox One apps you need to download.
Want the top streaming video and games apps? Get these!
The best apps on Xbox One.
Sure, technically you can use your Xbox One without connecting it to the internet, but if you did you'd be missing out on tons of great apps. Want to watch the latest movies and TV shows? The Xbox One has an app for that. Want more free games or a way to make your existing ones even better? There's an Xbox One app for that, too.
However, with over 75 apps to choose from (many of which require additional subscription fees), picking the right ones can be daunting. This is why we've created the TechRadar guide to the best Xbox One apps in the world right now. We'll keep this best-of list constantly updated with the newest apps you should download, and if we've left off your favorite, let us know in the comments section.
Without further ado, let's dive right in.
If there was a Mount Rushmore of video streaming apps, Netflix would be George Washington. The formerly mail-only DVD rental service has grown astronomically in the last half-decade, and now the video streaming service works with almost every new device that has (or can connect to) a screen. Of course, it works with the Xbox One and is available to download via the Xbox Marketplace.
Nowadays, Netflix offers so much more than just thousands of classic movies and TV shows: it's a network unto itself premiering new shows on a near-weekly basis. The best part? You never have to wait a week to watch the next episode!
What's it cost? New streaming-only subscriptions run $8.99 per month (£5.99 for standard definition in the UK, £6.99 for high definition), but you're bound to get dozens of hours of entertainment for your dollar. Looking for suggestions? Check out our list of the best Netflix TV shows.
Hulu Plus (US only)
If you're thinking of cutting the cord and letting cable television drift away forever, Hulu Plus is a great way to supplant that DVR full of modern shows. While a large amount of Hulu Plus' content is network shows you can pull down with an external antennae, if you want the content on demand without the worry of a weak signal, you can use Hulu Plus to catch up on the best shows from NBC, ABC, Comedy Central, USA, SyFy and much more. There are a handful of BBC programs, though Hulu Plus is only available in the US. It also offers some of the greatest movies of all time due to owning exclusive streaming rights for the Criterion Collection.
What's it cost? While you can watch plenty of shows for free on Hulu's website, getting access to Hulu's content on devices like the Xbox One will run you $7.99 per month. Hulu Plus does air ads during its programming, with the average program showing about 3 minutes of commercials per half-hour show. That said, it's far less than you'd have to deal with watching live TV.
NFL on Xbox One.
Short of NASCAR and the PGA Tour, every major American sport has a streaming service where you can watch live and archived versions of previously completed games. While we very well might add some of the other major leagues to this list at a later date, we have to give props to the best service for the US' most popular sport: the NFL on Xbox One. While you are occasionally subject to blackouts when local teams are playing a nationally-televised game, NFL on Xbox One is pretty thorough otherwise.
With live games airing via NFL Sunday Ticket alongside constantly updated scores, standings, and stats, plus some pretty robust fantasy football integration, you can get a lot of awesome football action from your Xbox One via this app.
What's it cost? Get ready for a bit of sticker shock. A subscription to NFL Sunday Ticket (which lets you stream full games on Xbox One) starts at $240 for a season. If you want to stream on more than just your Xbox One, it jumps to $330. However, when you consider that you get dozens of hours of entertainment every week for four months, it will easily pay for itself if you're a big NFL fan.
WWE Network.
Back in the day (and by that we mean early 2014), watching the biggest WWE matches on pay-per-view was a major financial investment that only the most hardcore fans would take. The three-hour monthly shows would run in the $45-$55 range, so most fans had to pick and choose their pay-per-views. Perhaps realizing the PPV model was becoming outdated, WWE established the WWE Network, an online-only channel that streams every previous PPV event (including WWE, WCW and ECW), original programming like documentaries and reality shows, and, of course, WWE's monthly extravaganzas like WrestleMania, Summerslam and the Royal Rumble.
What's it cost? WWE doesn't hide its pricing structure in the slightest. Rare is it that an hour goes by on WWE programming without a single utterance of "$9.99" (£9.99 in the UK), the monthly cost of a subscription. If you're a huge wrestling fan, it pays for itself, but that low price point without any long-term commitment makes the WWE Network a pretty fantastic value for lapsed fans as well.
The original and best video streaming service has become more than just three-minute videos of cats yawning and people falling. YouTube has grown immeasurably since it started a decade ago, to the point where artists are able to make a living by creating long-form programming on the world's most popular video site. From video podcasts to "Let's Play" walkthroughs of video games, there's plenty of stuff you can watch for long periods of time on any device . including Xbox One.
What's it cost? YouTube is free to download and watch, though some creators (mostly movie studios) do charge rental fees for their programming. Be warned: YouTube video creators have the option to attach advertising to their content, which they often exercise.
HBO Go (US only)
You'd be hard-pressed to find a network with the programming pedigree of HBO. While the channel is still a haven of recent hit movies, Home Box Office's real draw is the many amazing shows it's aired over the years.
HBO Go is a service that collects a good swath of recent movies and almost every major program that's aired on the channel since the late '90s. From classics like The Sopranos and The Wire to modern hits like Girls and Game of Thrones, there may be no greater collection of on-demand TV shows than what you can find on HBO Go. Now if they could just add Mr. Show.
What's it cost? We've got a bit of bad news for you. HBO Go for the Xbox One is currently only available to US customers who subscribe to the HBO channel on cable. Fortunately, most cable operators offer basic packages that carry local broadcasts networks and HBO for a reasonable price (usually in the $20-a-month range). HBO has announced a standalone option called HBO Now, set to debut exclusively on Apple TV in April, but it won't be available on non-Apple devices until July at the earliest.
FXNOW (US only)
The streaming service for Fox's popular cable network offers access to many episodes of modern hits like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Justified, as well as classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and How I Met Your Mother, but let's be real: the big draw for FXNOW is Simpsons World, an archive of the 560-plus episodes of the Simpsons, dating back from the 1989 premiere to last week's new episode. A backlog that big can be daunting, so thankfully there's curated lists from The Simpsons' top writers and clips to get a feel for specific episodes.
What's it cost? Unfortunately, FXNOW and Homer Simpson's vocabulary have one thing in common: lots of "D'oh!" If you want to access FXNOW on Xbox One, you have to subscribe to the cable channel, which typically involves a mid-tier subscription running $30-$50 per month, depending on the cable provider. Still, it's an attractive alternative to buying every new season of the Simpsons on DVD.
Streaming video games can be fun, but it's often a lot harder than it looks. At the very basic level, you need to find a computer powerful enough to multitask both a resource-intensive game and a high-bandwidth stream. If you want your voice and image included, you need a pricey camera and microphone. Fortunately, there's an easier way to get a decent-quality stream running without ever leaving your couch. If you've got a Kinect attached to your Xbox One, all it takes are a few button clicks and voilà! You'll be uploading picture-in-picture broadcasts of playthroughs for almost any Xbox One game you own.
What's it cost? You can watch other ad-supported streams live on Twitch via Xbox One for no charge, though if you want to stream yourself, you need to be an Xbox Live Gold subscriber ($60/£40 per year). Twitch also has a premium subscription service called Twitch Turbo that eliminates ads for anything you watch and maintains a deeper archive of streams you make for a few dollars a month.
As long as you're not a stickler for getting new titles on their release dates, you can get plenty of amazing ones for the cost of a used game by subscribing to various services. For example, subscribers to Xbox Live (Xbox's online play service) get a new Games With Gold release each month that's free to play as long as they continue paying for Xbox Live.
However, this isn't the only publisher giving out bonus games. EA Access gives subscribers full downloads of a majority of games from Electronic Arts' Xbox One catalog (usually every game that's more than six months old), and those games not part of "The Vault" can be purchased at a 10% discount.
What's it cost? If you want to test the waters of EA Access, you can subscribe to the service for a $5/£4 a month, but you can score a pretty substantial half-off discount if you sign up for a year because a 12-month commitment is only $30/£19.99. Considering that many of the games in The Vault sell for $30 alone, it's an app worth paying for if you're a fan of EA's sports games and shooters.
TrueAchievements.
If you're a long-time Xbox user, you know how addictive Achievements can be. When they're used properly, they can add a lot of variety to your favorite games, challenging you to tackle them in a brand new way.
Unfortunately, developers still screw up Achievements from time to time, giving outrageous amounts of Gamerscore for performing simple actions or doling out a pittance for true tests of gamer skill. Fortunately, the 100G you won for a single level or the 5G you earned beating a game on Extreme Mode is equalized when you load up TrueAchievments. Using data mined from millions of gamers, TrueAchievements gives extra points to tougher Achievements and less for the cakewalks.
What's it cost? TrueAchievements is free, though the cost of seeing how little those Avatar: The Last Airbender "Achievements" actually matter might tax your ego.

Newest Update is a Go!
Microsoft recently released a pair of updates for SmartGlass/Xbox One and wouldn't you know they got this one right. The companion app is so functional I can get rid of three remote controls in my house (outstanding!) The activity feed in the app is a great addition, as well as broadcast notifications (for the viewer and broadcaster.) More extensive account management as well as the ability to arbitrarily re-arrange your pins are nifty additions. The biggest addition outside of the universal remote has to be OneGuide operating seamlessly through SmartGlass (what?!) I can now easily browse my TV listings while playing a game, watching a movie on another app, or any number of growing potential activities on the Xbox One. I would have given the app 3.5 maybe 4 stars prior to this update, now it is definitely a five-star application. I can be contacted on Twitter: @FSCrouton with any questions or comments regarding this review.

New version and no more streaming?
Had the previous version on my Surface, could stream with ease, a few days ago, downloaded this and the layout is worse, and theres no streaming option. I was JUST streaming a few days ago with the other version. what gives?

Runs pretty good, would like to game on pc streaming and still be able to use the tv function on the tv not just have it mirrored. It would be nice to use the xbox one mic while streaming and it be functional. I think its great tho. Have already recommended it to others.

Eddie THE MADMAN.
Amazing with Windows 8.
I was very impressed with the seamless integration via desktop PC, this app on Windows 8.1 You can basically speed through any task you want to complete on the dashboard through your PC. Much better than the app I have on my android device and surprisingly it connects quickly to the Xbox One.

Smartglass is all right.
Like this app on my phone, response time is good and can check messages from friends without hitting the home button while gaming - very handy.

Great companion app!!
Works great. I use this app on my phone as well. Never have problems other than having to sign in every time I use it on my phone. For windows 10, the only problem I've noticed is when the keyboard prompt comes up it doesn't feel very intuitive. I have to hit the text input box just right it seems to be able to use the keyboard. I would also like to be able to move the cursor around in apps like Microsoft Edge for the Xbox One.

WORKS GREAT.
Not a problem with it!! Use on Laptop and Desktop both Windows 10, also use android app on phone and a tablet. My Xbox One has the Xbox TV tuner plugged in and streaming TV programs works perfect. Streaming of games sometimes a little sluggish with highly graphical busy games, but still good enough to play. Thanks XBOX.
