Shouldn't you be on Minecraft.net right now?
Posted on Dec 6, 2016 by Owen Jones.
This blog is no longer the go-to place for official Minecraft news! From now on we’ll be posting snapshots, updates, and lots, lots more on Minecraft.net.
Minecraft.net! Bookmark it! Make it your homepage!
Why have we done this? Learn that and more on Minecraft.net!
Note: we’ll still use this blog for any Mojang news that’s not relevant to Minecraft. There’s not a lot of that about right now but thought it was worth mentioning.
Fight in a fort or toss a tuber.
Posted on Dec 2, 2016 by Marc Watson.
Ah, Friday. For many, this signals the start of two free days to kick back and play their favorite games. To help you out with that, we’ve put some new maps on Minecraft Realms for PC, and have brought back some old favorites as well. Whether you’d like to quietly admire new builds by yourself, or frenetically compete with a group of friends, we’ve got something for everyone!
Hot Potato by Team Cryus.
Gather your friends and grab a potato! Hot Potato is the kind of sport where you don’t want to be left holding the ball. Keep your eyes peeled for any agitators rushing you with a spud, and if you get hit, mash your mouse until you pass it off to someone else. These are exploding tubers, so toss them before they detonate!
Vaslen by Excessed.
If you’d like to start a new survival game, but don’t want to stress over building up your farms, fire up this world template. In Vaslen, you’ll find a green mesa and five cozy shacks. Just be careful, this map starts at night!
Fort Craft by goCreative.
Zombies gather to attack, beginning their approach to your fort. The narrow canyon walls make it difficult for the creatures to move in groups, and from your perch in the guard tower, you line up the perfect shot. With a quiver of arrows and a bit of luck, the sun will be up before the monsters reach you.
Other additions.
We have another round of 1.11 compatibility updates for you! If you haven’t played these before, give them a try. This week, the following maps make their return to Realms:
We also have a special mention, for anyone that didn’t catch the Light Your Way Home blog post. The map, aptly titled Light Your Way Home, is part of the #MinecraftIRL campaign, designed to blur the lines between the real world and the crafted world. You can grab this map on Realms, under the adventure map category.
Winter is… on the way.
Our next Realms content update, appropriately winter and/or holiday themed, is on December 16th! Make sure that you check in on that day for another blog post filled with all of the details.
If you’re curious about how to get your own creations on Minecraft Realms, check out our updated guidelines over at /r/Realms.
That’s all for now! See you next time!
Pocket Edition is 5 years old! Have a trailer for 1.0!
Posted on Dec 1, 2016 by Marsh Davies.
What a long way we’ve come! At its inception, Pocket Edition was little more than an experiment by mega-brained Mojang coder, Aron Nieminen. It was pretty bare bones - just the most minimal Minecrafty features in mobile form, hammered together in a mere three months.
As Aron says: “It wasn’t even supposed to have multiplayer at first, and the first internal version only had an ASCII renderer!”
It’s since grown into one of our most popular versions of Minecraft, with over 40 million players, who are now able to enjoy the rich features of redstone, join each other on Realms, and across platforms, race each other on pigback, wail on witches and - with the upcoming Ender Update - battle the ultimate boss: The Ender Dragon.
Share your real-life Minecraft moments!
Posted on Nov 23, 2016 by Owen Jones.
Minecraft can be a funny old game. Over the years, crafters have uncovered a wealth of secrets, and developed a bunch of unique ways to play. Dirt block towers, pigs with saddles, chests packed with mushroom stew - over time, these things have become almost… normal.
Go googly-eyed! Cartoon textures on Pocket / Win 10!
Posted on Nov 22, 2016 by Marsh Davies.
Turn your world into a toon with the latest texture pack to arrive on Pocket and Windows 10 Edition! Give your pigs a higher derp factor - and resolution to boot. Reshape villagers’ noses! Make sheep look startled!
On consoles this holiday: Elytra, End Cities & more.
Posted on Nov 22, 2016 by Marsh Davies.
We’ve prepared a rather spectacular seasonal gift for Console Edition. As is traditional, you’ll have to wait until late December to open up the full package, but we’re happy to give you a teeny preview today - the digital equivalent of letting you sneak downstairs and give your gift-wrapped goodies a little inquisitive shake.
Bop a buddy or journey through jungles.
Posted on Nov 18, 2016 by Marc Watson.
Welcome back, Minecrafters, to another Friday of PC Realms maps! Based on last week’s numbers, loads of you went nuts for A Giant Quest! We had fun stomping around and staring down the dragon as well.
Let’s get into this week’s maps!
Makers Punch by MineMakers Team.
Makers Punch was a natural choice for inclusion on Realms. It was a fun and error-free minigame from the start, and it reminded us of the fan favorite, Knockback Madness, seasoned with design elements from MineMakers Team’s Makers Spleef. The goal of knocking your enemies flying off the platform is simple, but learning the jumps and items will give you an advantage as you and your friends play this game over and over.
Got time to spare? Try our Hour of Code 2016 Edition!
Posted on Nov 15, 2016 by Owen Hill.
What could you learn in one hour? A little maths? A smattering of English? Some “science”?
Nothing of significance, basically. That’s why you should be delighted that we’ve created a second Hour of Code tutorial, designed to teach you the basics of coding in a mere 60 minutes. We introduce concepts of game design and computer science in easy-to-understand steps before giving insight into mob behavior and more. Of course, to be a master coder like Jens takes more than an hour’s training, but this is a great place to start.
Last year’s hour of code has been played over 31 million times, making it the most popular on the Code.org platform. Despite that, we’ve rebuilt the thing so it’s even better than last year’s.
Both the 2015 and 2016 tutorials are now available at code.org/minecraft so head over and give them a try. Oh, and if you’re still not convinced, watch the chirpy video below.
Thanks for reading, everyone! Enjoy your hour of code!

Treasure hunters, rejoice! Update 1.11, aka the Exploration Update, has now made the treacherous journey from snapshot to full release. Our intrepid developers have scaled mighty crags of code, ventured into untamed pre-release territory and battled bugs to bring you wondrous gaming goodies!
If you haven’t got Minecraft for PC / Mac yet: you can buy it here! It’s fun and gets loads of massive, free updates like this one.
Pocket and Win 10 getting 1.0 - The Ender Update soon!
Posted on Nov 11, 2016 by Owen Jones.
There comes a time in every Minecraft edition’s life when they evolve from being a mere percentage into a fully fledged number. For Pocket Edition and Windows 10 that time is almost here. 1.0 - The Ender Update is coming!
We didn’t pick that number for the lols. Our next update is packed with features but most significant is probably The End and its iconic inhabitant - The Ender Dragon. Though you can carry on playing after defeating the misunderstood beast, for many, taking it down is the ultimate goal in Minecraft. Something to aim for and achieve after hours of play. A tangible end-game for Survival players.
Minecraft on Xbox One, PS4, and PS Vita soon!
Posted on May 22, 2014 by Owen.
Update: As of February 25, 2015 this upgrade offer and the DLC content transfer offers are no longer available.
We’re finally able to share news about Minecraft on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Playstation Vita.
Apologies for the delay, but putting Minecraft on new consoles is a serious business. People have been using phrases like “logistically-speaking,” “infinite terrain,” and “platform parity” for months now.
We’ve decided that letting current players upgrade for a small fee is the best way to show our appreciation. If you’re a new crafter who’s looking to pick up Minecraft in the next few months - welcome!
We hope this post makes you happy!
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Xbox 360 Edition. It will include all the features from the most recent Xbox 360 title update. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will cost $19.99. If you’ve bought Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition from Xbox Live Marketplace, or played online with the disc version, you will be able to upgrade to Xbox One Edition for $4.99. You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date. Players with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Xbox One. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer saves from Xbox One to Xbox 360. We can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems. Cross platform play will not be possible between Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Many, but not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs you’ve purchased for Xbox 360 Edition will be available for use in Xbox One Edition. We’d like to say all your DLC would transfer, but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here. We’ll have more on this soon.
Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will be available on the PSN in August. It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version, including online play on Vita. This means everyone who has bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN will get it on Vita for free. Those fluent in Sony-speak might refer to the deal as “Cross-buy.” We are working closely with Sony Computer Entertainment to look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita. We’ll have more info on this closer to release. Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will cost $19.99. It doesn’t matter if you buy for PS3 or Vita first, you own the game for both platforms. Saves are transferrable between the Playstation 3 and Vita versions of Minecraft. You will be able to craft at home on your Playstation 3, then continue on the bus/toilet with your Playstation Vita. All of the DLC you’ve purchased for Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will work on Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will be released on the PSN in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Playstation 3 + Vita Edition. It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version. Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will cost $19.99. 'Minecraft' looks like a completely different game in 4K.
That water, though.
The best demonstration of the Xbox One X's 4K capabilities comes from an unlikely, blocky source: Minecraft . Behind closed doors at E3 2017, Microsoft showed off a handful of games it upgraded to 4K just for the Xbox One X, including Gears of War 4 , but Mojang's cube-based crafting game clearly got the most drastic upgrade. When the free 4K update and the Super Duper Graphics Pack lands in the fall, those blobs of grass will transform into blades . See for yourself:
Minecraft is getting a lot of love from Microsoft this year. The Better Together update lands in August, and it's huge. Crucially, it moves the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions of Minecraft to the Bedrock Engine, which already powers the mobile, Windows 10, Amazon Fire and VR versions of the game. This means Minecraft will finally be the same experience across all of these devices, receiving the same updates and DLC, and enabling cross-platform play.
The Better Together update won't apply to the PlayStation 4 -- or PS4 Pro -- version of Minecraft right away.
"It's not for lack of wanting to or effort on our part," Aubrey Norris, senior global communications manager, told Engadget. "We are in discussions with our partners right now. We want PlayStation, and we invite Sony to bring PlayStation players onto Bedrock."
And then there's the Super Duper Graphics pack. Anyone on Bedrock platforms will have the option to play an even-more-updated version of Minecraft , complete with raised rails on tracks, highlights on the edges of blocks, rippling water, atmospheric scattering and specular highlights. The 4K update will be free, while the Super Duper Graphics pack (which is pictured in all of these images, on top of 4K updates) will cost extra, though Microsoft is still nailing down the price.
This is all in addition to earlier updates this year, including the Community Marketplace update that landed in June, giving players the power to sell and buy their own worlds, texture packs and skins.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition was the Xbox One edition of Minecraft Legacy Console Edition developed by 4J Studios [12] before the Better Together Update. An announcement trailer was shown during Microsoft's press conference at E3 2013. [13] This edition built off the Xbox 360 Edition . [1] On May 22, 2014, Mojang confirmed that the game would be released in August 2014. On August 29, 4J Studios tweeted that the game had been handed over to Xbox for final testing. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition was officially released on September 5, 2014.
When the Better Together Update was released on September 20, 2017 , the Xbox One Edition was made unavailable for digital purchase on the Xbox Store, but DLC is still available. You can still, however, buy a retail version of the game. Bedrock Edition is a free download for all digital owners of Xbox One Edition . Owners of the disc version who bought DLC from the digital store, or played at least five hours between September 20, 2016 and January 30, 2018, also received it for free. Xbox One Edition is a separate game from Bedrock Edition and is still playable for anyone who owns it. DLC for Xbox One Edition can still be purchased, and most of it will carry over to Bedrock Edition. When selecting a world in Bedrock Edition, any world from Xbox One Edition can be imported.
Initially, Xbox One Edition was planned to no longer receive updates, starting with the lack of an equivalent update to TU58, but the edition later received CU50, an update adding the MINECON Earth Skin Pack, and later updates resumed entirely with CU51, an update equivalent to TU60 which also added all the features from TU58.
Compared to Xbox 360 Edition , Xbox One Edition included larger world sizes up to 5120x5120 blocks (36 times larger), 18 chunk render distance, amplified worlds, and enhancements offered by the Xbox One. [1] Despite it being very similar to Bedrock Edition , Xbox One Edition still has all of the Legacy Console Edition exclusive features, with the most notable being the built-in mini games. Because of licensing restrictions, some of the Xbox One Edition DLC is unavailable in Bedrock Edition, and some of it is not on the Marketplace and can only be obtained if it was bought for the Xbox One Edition .
For Xbox 360 Edition players who wish to transfer worlds, it is preferable to buy the disc version of Xbox One Edition instead of buying the new Bedrock Edition, and do so before January 30, 2018. With no current method of transferring worlds directly from the Xbox 360 Edition to Bedrock Edition for Xbox One, the only way is to import the Xbox 360 world in Xbox One Edition and then import the Xbox One world in Bedrock Edition after getting it from playing the Xbox One Edition for five hours. It is unknown what will happen to the transfer functionality after the Xbox 360 Edition is updated with new content that does not exist in the Xbox One Edition .
The following DLC is only usable in Xbox One Edition and does not carry over to Bedrock Edition, either because of licensing restrictions or because they are for the Mini Games:
First Birthday Skin Pack Second Birthday Skin Pack Third Birthday Skin Pack Fourth Birthday Skin Pack Fifth Birthday Skin Pack Battle Map Pack 1 Battle Map Pack 2 Battle Map Pack 3 Battle Map Pack 4 Halloween Battle Map Festive Battle Map Fallout Battle Map Pack Glide Beasts Track Pack Glide Giants Track Pack Glide Myths Track Pack.
Mass Effect Mash-Up Pack, Doctor Who Skins Volumes I and II, and Skin Packs 1-6 are also currently not included in Bedrock Edition, but Mojang stated in the Bedrock 1.2 patch notes that they are working on getting the license to add them.
If the Minecon 2015 Skin Pack was purchased during the limited time it was available, it transfers to Bedrock Edition and is usable in multiplayer. The Simpsons Skin Pack, as well as the Marvel skin packs, also transfer, but are not usable in multiplayer.
In default settings, the controls are always displayed on the HUD.

Minecraft: Xbox One Edition Holiday Pack was released on November 24, 2015 with seven "fan-favorite" DLC included. This edition contains all of the same features of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition along with the DLC bundled in. This bundle is meant to celebrate the Christmas holidays and costs US$29.99. [16] [17]
The following DLC is included in Xbox One Edition Holiday Pack : [16] [17]
The Minecraft Marvel Skin Packs Bundle was released on November 30, 2015 and contains all of the Marvel Skin Packs:
The bundle was meant to be a discount for the Marvel Skin Packs. On December 22, 2015 the bundle was removed from the Xbox Marketplace, thus being no longer available for the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. This bundle costed $6.99 and was available in the Xbox One and the Xbox 360. [18] [19] The Marvel Skin Packs from the bundle still transfer to Bedrock Edition, but they are not usable in online or LAN multiplayer.

Minecraft revolves around one simple principal: survival. The game is split into day and night cycles. During the day, you spend time gathering resources, whether it be searching for ore, digging holes, fishing or planting crops. A Massive Leap Back.
You'd think a game like this wouldn't change what worked. Think again. Creative controls were changed. You can't see underwater because it's a blue abyss, and lava has it's old texture. Also, there's an in-game currency to buy things. Since this currency is bought in uneven amounts compared to purchases made with the currency, you pay more for less. Then, they changed the old, perfectly good menu cursor to make it take longer to move things in your inventory. Brightness does you no good compared to the old Gamma setting, so I can barely see anything now. The UI is worse than Xbox One Edition's. I only uploaded two worlds, and yet my game runs slower than Xbox 360 Edition. What makes this worse is that I can call this Pocket Edition and nobody can disagree. Somehow, even Minecraft of all things was completely ruined by carelessness and greed. Why change things that worked fine in the past? In the end, Xbox One Edition was much better than this obviously rushed failure.

Terrible Downgrade.
The xbox one edition was designed for xbox, this version is literally a port from pe. The creative invintory is a disarray and difficult to navigate, placing blocks is much slower as being precise is terribly difficult. The graphics are a disgrace, the game crashes every 30 mins, everything is laggy. This is just scratching the surface #NotMyMinecraft.

Like, seriously?
Okay, how many morons does it take to screw up my favorite game? Mojang. I NEVER write reviews, and about Minecraft, too? Wow. Welcome to a new low of Minecrap. The FOV is great, render distance fine, etc. But when it comes to the GAMEPLAY. Dude, whoever's reading this, I pray you are using the old version. This "new" version of Minecrap is beyond my comprehension. I spent, I kid you not, 45 minutes trying to put two words on a sign. I gave up. Why? Because everytime I try to type a letter, BOOM, my Xbox One S is thrown into a time-space continuum and literally starts freezing and pooping itself until I shut it down. I can't just go to Home either because if I try to do that my Xbox goes Super-Saiyan and goes, "ERR ERR BVVVVVVVVMMMMMMMM". Like, was this version a joke? Oh, and as I'm just strolling along in my world, I somehow always stroll right into Lagville because a cow walks across my path. We're freaking back in the Stone-Age, people. I'd just toss my Xbox out the window. <3.

Newest doesn't always mean best.
The new crafting and inventory menus are quite cumbersome and seem rushed. It now takes easily twice as long to perform trivial tasks like swapping items in these menus in creative mode. The previous setup was much more streamlined and easier to use. Whether or not this was intentional is beyond me, but natural bodies of water anywhere from 3 to 6ish+ blocks now have this weird dead zone. You can't see literally anything when you're in one as your screen goes gray, thus making it impossible to accurately build underwater.

pls don't run Minecraft into the ground.
i remember when i played the xbox 360 version 5 year or so of my life gone I loved the game so much i don't want to see the game get destroyed by coins. the community should come first dont cut a big part of the community (redstoners) i know I wont be heard sense I am one 17 year old I just feel sad that a game i loved for so long is losing community support. Feels like a SERIOUS work-in-progress.
The UI is atrocious. Commands have been added, but are limited. Some items aren't in the creative inventory. The big servers are laggy. You get no starting coins for microtransactions. Sprint flying is much slower. I lost all my skins, textures, and mash-up packs. EXTREMELY buggy. All wooden tools and crafting tables require oak wood. IT'S JUST PE MINECRAFT ON XBOX. IT IS SUPER BUGGY. I CAN'T CONNECT WITH FRIENDS. Over all, it feels like an unfinished game. Mojang should have just updated the first Xbone edition to have new textures, servers, realms, infinite world size, and no microtransactions or at least have with earnable or starting coins. Big downgrade in many areas.

Mobile port madness.
I thought that "Better Together" was a great idea until it was released and I saw what it really was. They ported the worst version of the game (mobile) to make it compatible. The update fixed a game that wasn't broken in the first place. The changed crafting system and UI make this version almost unplayable and extremely difficult to adapt to. The slight changes in controls make things like sprinting a nightmare. Buttons are unnecessarily changed and the menus are way too different. The graphics really show that this is a mobile port with poor shading, terrible lighting, and subpar textures. This was a real step down from the Xbox One Edition. This all makes me wonder why the mobile versions were included in the "Better" Together in the first place? They held back what could have been a great improvement to not only Minecraft but video games themselves with the introduction to cross-platform. It's sad that the old, more refined versions are left behind for this atrocity.

Needs more creative support.
Im a big fan of Creative mode, ive been working on a map lately that im very proud of. The xbox one edition was perfect for map making, there was, as there always is, room for improvements, but it was great none the less. However, this new version is absolute trash mostly for creative, but just in general. The entire feel of the game messed up, it feels more like a crappy of brand game, then actual Minecraft. I was really hyped about the shaders pack, The Creative menu is just a joke, moving items around in my inventory is way more difficult then it should be, and i dont even want to talk about my DLC, or lack of it. The Minecraft coins, or whatever theyre called, are just stupid, why change it from the way we bought DLC in the passed, it worked just fine. This version is basically just Pocket Edition and is clearly not built for consoles, or at least the Xbox One, i feel that they should use the power of the One. I hope this game gets fixed, its an awesome idea, buts its not ready.

Huge problem.
The game crashed on me but when i tried to relaunch the game, it keeps telling me to restart my xbox and that didn't work. I then hard reset it and didnt work either. I then delete it and installed it back and it still didn't work too. I need some support here even though this is the 1.2 BETA, i wont be able to play this version of it if i dont get any help, i played this game since it came out on the 360 and the one. Please fix this.

Yet Another Updated Review By Krzychief. again.
Yes. It has gotten a little better since my last review. However, there are many issues that still must be fixed before this gets on par with the old console edition. Before anything else: Get the missing DLC packs on the d*mn store. Skin Packs 1-6 are missing, the summer of arcade skin pack that I owned on 360 never made it's way onto Xbox One, would like to have it back. The Oringinal Festive Mashup is missing. 2016 mashup was to update it and add more content, not replace it, and the 1day only 12 DoC DLC is bullsh*t. So many problems with the store missing items that dispite the fixes I'm still only giving it one star. Microsoft. You've probably bitten off more than you could chew with The Bedrock Edition. Far too ambitious and you spat it out too early, really hurts the Minecraft brand, even with all the free stuff you're giving out I can't convice ANY of my old Minecraft buddies to play it now because of this. They won't play the old or new version BECAUSE OF THIS. Good Job. 👎🏼

Awesome For Xbox One.
I bought this game as a Christmas present for my nephew. He had the one for Xbox 360 but he upgraded to One so I bought him this. He loved it. Graphics he said were about the same but he said the worlds were so much bigger.
