This feature just doesn't work well, for instance if you play good defense (play up on your man, defend to the hoop, and attempt to block his shot), you should receive a good defense (+2 grade), or a contest shot )+1) grade, right? Well, what about getting an -1 or -2 for allowing your man to "score inside," or to shoot an "open shot?"
This is another one of the games glitches - I want to call this a farce because rarely if ever do my point allocations stick - allow me to explain.
This is another bone of contention - in the NBA Live '15 iteration, it seemed you were better able to hit shots/free throws using the shot meter than you are in this current iteration.

could be better.
It has too many bugs in multiplayer, and the single player is not well thought out. It's sad because the base gameplay is actually pretty good. it just needs a lot of polish, and more time to design the extras which make games like this fun. Hopefully next year it will come together better.

Decent game.
Its a good game, just a little bit to animated.

The gameplay is really fun but it can be unresponsive at some points. The game freezes during the games often, which gets frustrating. Also when you upgrade your rising star a lot of the time the upgrades don't apply. 2K has a much better system.

FREE THROW FREEZE BUG IS REALLY GETTING OLD. ITS A SHAME EA WONT FIX THIS FOR THE CUSTOMERS WHO PUT MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS. SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT.

BUGGY NIGHTMARE.
KNOWN ISSUE WITH FREEZING IS STILL NOT FIXED IN RAISING STAR. SUPER FRUSTRATING TO PLAY MOST A 12 MINUTE QUARTER GAME, HAVE DOUBLE DOUBLE AND 100 PERFORMANCE RATING JUST HAVE GAME FREEZE DURING FREE THROWS. HAS HAPPENED COUNTLESS TIMES 😠😢👊🎮 CANT DO ANYTHING BUT QUIT AND HAVE IT BE WASTED 45 MINUTES OF PLAYING, NO REWARD OR STATISTICS. PLEASE FIX IT!

BROKEN GAME.
Cannot finish 1 Rising Star game without the entire game freezing in free throws. Most annoying thing ever because it can happen in the first minute or the very last. If they were to patch that the game would be much better.

to many glitchs.
Every time i get to the free throw line it glitchs and when you play your first seasons its ok but it seems like when your in your second season the game starts to glitch. Everytime i spend my skill points it would give it back and it gets to a point were I have to restart the game. It gets so bad to the point i cant see anybody arms and i have this game downloaded. They only have to fix a few (ALOT) things. its a good game but if you have this game more than a mouth or completing your first season that when it decides to glitch.

This Game is Ass/DON'T BUY/PLEASE READ THIS.
this is the fakest ******* game ive ever played. if you play on superstar difficulty in rising star or one of the hard courts in pro-am they literally let the computer make every shot and make your team mates miss everything. i played for Cleveland when i had this ******** installed and reggie jackson ( who's ******* ass ) literally scored 50 points and only missed like 4 shots and tobias harris ( who's even more ass ) had 23 off three's that he shot while the man was right in his face playing perfect defense while they made lebron james miss wide open fast break layups and open jumpshots and made me miss 6 free throws straight dispite the fact that i have a 92 free throw rating and was getting nothing but perfecr releases. i see why ppl don't take this **** seriously when ppl compare it to 2k. EA Sports yall ***** should stick to the other sports and let 2k handle basketball. im surprised this game hasn't hurt yall reputation cause of how ass it is. i hope yall read this **** too.

Great to have it back.
I love the graphics and smooth game play control. The Designers should have put in the ability to play Streetball 1 on 1 with your created player and keep score. Overall it's a good way to live out a dream when your past your prime. Putting my Sons face on a player really put them "IN THE GAME" ! My Son has a disability, and this helps him by giving him visual of himself doing things hwill never be ably to do. This also helps me emotionally .

pretty good game.
Overall this game feels and plays good for the first nba live game in 2 years. The game play overall is good but some issues like passing the ball and the game feeling slow are their. The one, the mycareer is designed well with no cut scenes besides the espn first take. I also like how ea sports made it so that all gear is earned only through playing the street and the league. Im tired of 2k charging microtransactions to upgrade your myplayer as well as most things in 2k18. That is the main reason i bought nba live 18 was because it wasnt a microtransactions game because you can upgrade your player to 99 overall by just playing the game which is very refreshing. The game modes are not as in depth as 2k but for 30 to 40 dollars the game is well worth the money, compared to paying 60 dollars to 2k for the base game and even more to upgrade your myplayer. I hope many people try out nba live as nba live has made a comeback.

Huge step forward, still needs work.
Interior defense is still a little wonky but overall this game is a HUGE leap from Live 16. This is the most fun I've had on a basketball game in a very long time. But, like I said, there's still a lot of room for improvement. Overall, this is a solid foundation for a potentially great franchise.

A good step in the right direction.
After years of really bad nba games, EA is finally showing a desire to compete with Visual Concepts and 2k. That being said, this isnt 2k. Comparing the two is like comparin COD with Battlefield. sure, you can shoot people's faces, but thats about all there is in common. Givin the differences between Live 16 and 18, I'd like to think that maybe Live 19 will be the year that 2k finally has proper compition.

better then ever. welcome back 🙂👍🔥
Soundtrack is amazing as ever. gameplay much better then live 16. game looks beautiful. it's the basketball 🏀 game I've been waiting for. Thanks EA.

Solid game for the price.
If you pre ordered the game, your getting a solid game for 40 bucks, if your paying 60, thats a different story. Yes, its missing certain features that experienced bball sim players would notice and there still needs to be some improvements to animation and commentary, but what EA has here is a solid foundation. Hopefully they can continue to grow the franchise into something special again.

About Time!
I can finally play something different and pretty good. So long 2K. I can now play a new refreshing basketball game, and not play the same game year after year, with only updated rosters. Controls are smooth, graphics are great. My only gripe is they say you're guarded when a defender is near you after your shot is released. Which is not always the case. This effects your shot greatly. Maybe an update will fix that, soon. THANKS EA.
61 out of 67 people found this helpful.
Very solid.
Much better game than I hoped for. The One experience really does add a nice dimension. I tried it thinking it would be a typical "create a player" and I'd be bored stiff. It's not. It's a very deep mode which got me addicted and couldn't wait to put in the work during my next time in front of the Xbox One. Other modes are decent too. Ball controls seem better than recent years, and difficulty adjustments also seem to respond better for the type of game you really want. Speaking of modes, have to give props to EA for bringing full WNBA teams/rosters into a game. Glad to have this dimension even though I've only played one game so far in the digital WNBA. Only negatives so far: commentary and some animations get a bit repetitive; some cutscene / animation transitions have frame rate issues I wouldn't expect on this console generation; no full WNBA season, only exhibition games.

2K has confirmed to GameSpot that NBA 2K17 will support HDR on the Xbox One S. This makes the annual basketball game the first Xbox One title to support the new technology.
HDR stands for high dynamic range, and televisions that feature it have an expanded color and contrast range. It makes everything brighter and more vibrant. Other games that support the technology include Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, and Scalebound.
The Xbox One S is currently the only console to feature HDR support. In GameSpot's review, critic Jimmy Thang called it "a great time to jump on board," but if you don't care about things like 4K video and HDR, then he'd recommend the cheaper, original Xbox One. You can take a wider look at the critical reception with our review roundup.
NBA 2K17 releases for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 20. You can play the game four days early by preordering it. There's also an $80 edition of the game based on former Los Angeles Lakers player Kobe Bryant.

Next NBA Live console game coming out in early 2017 (update)
Mobile game on the way.
EA Sports won't release an NBA Live game this year — instead, the next entry in the simulation basketball franchise will arrive in early 2017, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.
EA included a new NBA Live game for consoles in a slide presentation for its 2017 fiscal year, which runs from April 2016 through March 2017. But unlike the other EA Sports titles that are traditionally released in EA's fiscal second quarter, from August through September — namely, Madden NFL, NHL and FIFA Soccer — NBA Live is listed as a fourth-quarter project.
The fourth quarter of EA's 2017 fiscal year runs from January through March 2017. This coincides with the NBA All-Star Game, which is held in early February.
The most recent entry in the franchise was NBA Live 16 , which was released in September 2015 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Next year's game is listed with no official title. The NBA Live series is developed by EA Tiburon.
We've reached out to EA for more details, and will update this article with any information we receive.
Update: While the next NBA Live console game won't arrive until early 2017, EA Sports is bringing the series to mobile devices later this year, said executive producer Sean O'Brien in a post on the franchise's website.
"It's important that you know that we are committed to NBA Live in the console space," O'Brien said.
"Our focus this year is to deliver an amazing, high-quality basketball game to a global audience. The best way to do that is through the fastest growing, largest, and most accessible gaming platform…mobile. As a team, we're really excited about taking the franchise to new places with the worldwide release of our mobile game later this year."
NBA Live 16 Review.
Fundamentals will always be the key to success on a basketball court. How well you can dribble, shoot, and play defense will always determine whether you win or lose. This continues to be the problem in NBA Live 16, where flashy presentation and interesting new game modes can only go as far as the stiff and laggy gameplay will take it.
Only the biggest names got the full face-scanning treatment . Some Players just look a bit. off.
And it is quite flashy. Building on the graphical improvements from last year, NBA Live 16 continues to look great, especially up close. Updated skin textures and better lighting makes players look more realistic, but it seems uneven – like only the biggest names got the full face-scanning treatment. The ones that did, like Lebron James and Russell Westbrook, look fantastic, but some players just look a bit. off. For example, the facial features of Anderson Varejao make him look like a completely different person. Additionally, only a few body types seem to be used for everybody, which results in some pretty inaccurate looking players. In real life, Kevin Durant is very thin and lanky, but in Live he almost looks bulky.
Presentation has always been a high priority in EA Sports games, and NBA Live 16 is no different. The ESPN licence is used extremely well, giving the feeling that you’re watching a live broadcast. Lively crowds fill the realistic arenas, which were built using EA’s scanning technology, and that adds to the authenticity. Once again, the game commentary is led by Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy, with Jalen Rose handling the halftime and postgame shows. Nobody does a particularly good job, though, and Rose in particular feels completely unnatural and more like he’s reading from a script.
Sadly, the real problems with NBA Live 16 begin immediately after tip-off. To start, most players move identically to one another, with stiff, cartoony animations. It’s jarring to see such a good-looking character model move so poorly. Worse, noticeable input lag made the controls feel sluggish, which led to frustrating turnovers.
The advantages that ball handlers have over defenders is so significant, it makes playing defense feel pointless.
Those sloppy turnovers are disasters, because defense in NBA Live 16 feels like an afterthought. The advantages that ball handlers have over defenders is so significant, it makes playing defense feel pointless - you’re just waiting for them to make huge mistakes. Holding L2 is supposed to help your defender lock on to the player they’re guarding, but proves ineffective since they can just run around you with little to no resistance anyways. Even players with high defensive attributes, like Iman Shumpert, continuously get beat to the hole. The demoralizing sight of my AI teammates just standing around watching the uncontested dunks became uncomfortably familiar.
Since playing defense isn’t very effective or fun, a sort of shootout atmosphere emerged, where I would just let my opponent take open shots, knowing that I had to answer on the other end of the court. If a shot rims out, though, it feels like a complete crapshoot. Six-foot-tall point guards constantly out-rebound centers, and even if you’re in perfect position someone else will most likely swoop in and take the ball away.
Not every aspect of the gameplay is bad, as there have been a few significant improvements over last year’s mediocre NBA Live 15 (review). The new shot meter, for example, is a much cleaner, simpler way of shooting the ball. After releasing your shot, you’re given a percentage above the shooter’s head, which lets you know the probability of success based on how you timed your shot, as well as a small indication of any mistakes you may have made. Understanding how to shoot properly has never been more clear. Running the pick and roll works pretty well too; holding L2 calls a teammate over to set a pick, and releasing it tells him to roll towards the hoop or sit back for an open shot.
The easy to pick up and play Live Run provides short, sweet hoops fun.
It’s disappointing that the core gameplay is so flawed, because there are a few game modes that really could have been special otherwise. Pro Am Live Run and Summer Circuit are prime examples: the easy to pick up and play Live Run sees 10 players facing off in a five-on-five game to 21, providing short, sweet hoops fun. Sumer Circuit, on the other hand, has more of a co-op feel, since you can group up with friends and play on various real-world basketball courts like Rucker Park and Venice Beach against AI teams of increasing difficulty.
The player you use in both Pro Am modes is the same as your Rising Star, EA’s version of 2K’s MyPlayer. Rising Star returns mostly unchanged, the good and the bad. It’s still fun to take a created player from the draft to superstardom, but the scrupulous grading system in each game continues to be a drag because it encourages you to play selfishly instead of working as a team. I constantly felt punished for passing on my own open looks in favor of a teammate that had an even better position.
If you want to create a more personal experience, you have the ability to use the GameFaceHD app, which uses your phone to transfer your image into the game. While this seems like it could be cool if it worked, I was never able to make it look right, so I ended up using a preset character.
Ultimate Team is a fun way to make the most of NBA Live 16.
Finally, Dynasty mode and Ultimate Team return, with few noteworthy additions. While Dynasty mode remains bare-bones and featureless, Ultimate Team is still a fun way to make the most of NBA Live 16. You can earn player cards by completing certain goals, like any of the 150+ challenges – like beating a team full of recent free agents, or a team full of sixth men. Highly rated player cards can be earned sooner this year, but the small contracts attached to said cards only let you use them a few times, making every time you use them feel exciting.
New modes and features make NBA Live 16 a bit better than its predecessor, but the clumsy controls and unbalanced gameplay keeps greatness out of reach yet again. Simply put, if the gameplay doesn’t feel right in one mode, it doesn’t feel right in any of them, regardless of how clever they are or how good it looks. NBA Live still has a long way to go.
NBA Live 16 can only go so far with clumsy controls holding it back.
