[UPDATE] Microsoft officially confirmed the Xbox One S as part of its E3 briefing today. As rumored, the system is 40 percent smaller than the existing model. It also comes with HDR and 4K video support, among other new features.
The system starts at $300 for a 500 GB version, and goes on sale in August. It also comes with a slightly redesigned controller, featuring textured grip, increased wireless range, and Bluetooth support. Check out the overview video below to learn more.
A 1 TB version will sell for $350, while the 2 TB edition will go for $400. Additionally, the Xbox One vertical stand will sell for $20, while the new controller will go for $60 by itself.
The leaks keep coming. Following leaks of Recore, Dead Rising 4, and Titanfall 2 information, images of the rumored Xbox One slim console have been posted on Neogaf and twitter.
Neogaf user KawabataSan posted the full image of the console, and user Ekim followed up with a picture of it standing upright. It's apparently called Xbox One S and it looks smaller and more box-y than the original. It also appears to have an infrared blaster on the bottom part for controlling other devices. The right part of the console also appears to be textured. In addition, the power brick is apparently housed within the console.
In the Neogaf thread, Jason Schreier of Kotaku affirmed that the image is, indeed, the Xbox One S console, codenamed Edmonton.
The image also details the new features coming to slim console. As rumored, it'll be significantly smaller than the launch console--by 40 percent--and it'll have a 2TB hard drive. It'll also support HDR and 4K video, and will come with a vertical stand.
The console originally leaked back in May, alongside rumors that Microsoft is prepping a more powerful Xbox One for release in 2017. The company is also rumored to be designing a new controller for the console, which seems to be the controller shown in the image above.

The new Xbox One: Everything we know about Microsoft's next game console(s)
Xbox Mini? Xbox Slim? Xbox VR? We may see one or more of them at E3 this Sunday.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) will introduce the world to a host of exciting new video games this week. But what about video game hardware? We've heard that the Nintendo NX and Sony's PlayStation Neo won't make it to this year's expo.
Microsoft, however, might be the exception to the no-new-console rule. The Xbox and Windows giant has not one, not two, but four rumored Xbox devices that could appear at E3 2016.
Here's what the rumor mill tells us about each one.
Xbox One Slim.
How Sony's PS3 slimmed down over the years.
The current Xbox One is huge. It makes the rival PS4 look tiny by comparison. But imagine if Microsoft shrunk it down to become the smallest Xbox ever.
According to sources who spoke to Kotaku, Polygon and The Verge, that's exactly what's happening: the Xbox One Slim (not a real name) will be 40 percent smaller than the current model. It will allegedly be cheaper, too, and yet offer 2TB of storage space -- double the capacity of the highest-end Xbox One available now.
Rumor says it'll come with a slightly redesigned Xbox One gamepad, and may natively support 4K televisions as well. We don't have any leaked pictures of the new Xbox yet, but sources believe it's slated to ship in August.

While it's normal for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo to release slimmer versions of their consoles during their long lifespans, such as the PS3 Super Slim and Xbox 360 Slim, the next rumor you're about to read is for something much different.
Xbox One VR.
If you wait until late 2017, say some of the same anonymous sources, there could be a much more powerful Xbox One on tap -- one that supports virtual reality. The Xbox One VR (also not a real name), codenamed "Scorpio," is allegedly a beefed-up Xbox One with a new graphics chip that gives the console four times the horsepower. That's enough graphical oomph, reportedly, to power an Oculus Rift VR headset.
Microsoft doesn't have a VR headset of its own, and it denies interest in making one anytime soon. (The Microsoft HoloLens is not a VR headset, and is likely years away). So it's initially surprising to hear that Microsoft might have an Xbox designed to support virtual reality.
But anonymous sources aren't the only ones who are suggesting that Microsoft might have suddenly taken an advanced interest in VR. A game developer at a "well-known European studio" let slip to Ars Technica that his company was working on an Xbox One VR title for 2017, and the official E3 exhibitor list now has a category for Xbox One Virtual Reality developers.

Besides, Microsoft already had a partnership with Oculus: it provides Xbox One gamepads for every Oculus Rift sold, and is developing a VR version of its mega-popular video game Minecraft for the Oculus platform.
An Xbox One VR sounds like a possible foil for the PlayStation Neo, assuming it exists. It, too, is allegedly a beefed-up console with a new graphics chip expressly designed to support virtual reality -- only in Sony's case, it would be powering Sony's own PlayStation VR headgear.
And according to Polygon's sources, that new VR-capable Xbox could be even more powerful than the VR-capable new PlayStation. While leaked documents obtained by our colleagues at Giant Bomb suggest the PlayStation Neo will boast raw performance of roughly 4.14 teraflops, Microsoft's "Scorpio" is allegedly targeting 6 teraflops.
Since today's PlayStation 4 is slightly more powerful than today's Xbox One, it could mean a role reversal for the two consoles.
Xbox One Mini and Stick.
If you believe the sources of veteran Microsoft reporter Tom Warren, Microsoft has been working on a pair of Xbox One media streaming devices for years: one a small set-top box to compete with the Apple TV, and the other a HDMI stick more like a Google Chromecast.
And if you believe Brad Sams, another Microsoft reporter who correctly predicted the Xbox One Elite Controller, Microsoft will actually announce both those streaming devices at E3 this year for roughly $150 (approximately £104 or AU$208) and $100 (approximately £69, AU$138) respectively.

The Xbox One Mini (not a real name) is believed to be a tiny stripped down Xbox that would be able to play lightweight games and apps, taking advantage of the fact that Microsoft is unifying its Windows and Xbox app stores to make some Windows programs available on Xbox and vice versa. Though no rumor has yet corroborated this, it would presumably ditch the Xbox's optical drive.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Stick (yet another made-up name) is allegedly pegged as a way to stream games from an Xbox in one room of your house to a TV in another room using wireless technology. That wouldn't be too much of a stretch, given you can already stream Xbox One games to a Windows 10 PC.
Overarching Xbox vision.
Why four devices? We don't know for sure -- but they appear to revolve around a new Microsoft initiative, codename Project Helix, to bring the worlds of Windows and Xbox much closer together.
This March, we learned that Microsoft intends to release every new game it creates for Windows and Xbox simultaneously. One month later, Microsoft announced that it would fulfill its long-standing promise to let the Xbox One run Windows apps -- not just games.
Both announcements rely on developers building so-called "universal" apps on a set of tools and practices dubbed the "Universal Windows Architecture" (UWA).
But Microsoft needs new hardware to get developers excited enough to build those apps in the first place. If Microsoft can tell developers that their UWA apps will run on a host of new devices that consumers are likely to have in their homes, including ones as cheap and portable as HDMI sticks, that could be some serious incentive to build for Microsoft's platform -- where Microsoft gets a cut of every sale.
If it works, it could be pretty nice for gamers too: In March, Xbox boss Phil Spencer imagined a future where your game library would never go out of date. Traditionally, each new generation of game consoles isn't "backwards-compatible" with games from previous generations. They typically don't work due to differences in the architecture of the processors inside.
But if Microsoft can get developers to build universal apps that work across different types of hardware, console gamers could enjoy the same benefit as today's PC gamers -- whose games just keep looking better, instead of going obsolete, as they upgrade to more powerful processors and graphics cards.

A game developer at a "well-known European studio" tells Ars Technica that his company is planning a new VR game for 2017 which will allegedly work with the Xbox One -- a console which isn't currently compatible with any VR headsets.
NeoGAF: Official E3 website adds "Xbox One Virtual Reality" filter, 4+ companies register.
NeoGAF forum user 00ich discovers that the Entertainment Software Association, which sponsors E3, has specifically created a category for companies building VR software for the Xbox One.
Gamespot: GameStop expecting new console announcements at E3.
Tony Bartel, COO of video game retailer GameStop, corroborates the rumors by saying he expects new game consoles to be announced at E3 this year.

Kotaku: Sources: Smaller Xbox One coming this year, more powerful Xbox One in 2017.
Sources tell Kotaku that Microsoft will release "at least two" new Xbox game consoles over the next two years: a cheaper, smaller version of the current Xbox One with a new 2TB hard drive this year, to be announced at E3, and a more powerful Xbox One next year with a faster GPU capable of supporting the Oculus Rift VR headset.
Polygon: Sources: Xbox One getting huge upgrade in 2017, slim model later this year.
Polygon corroborates the Kotaku report with its own anonymous sources, and adds that next year's more powerful Xbox One will be four times as powerful as the current console, with a performance target of 6 teraflops, and is designed to be backwards compatible with all current Xbox One software.
According to Polygon sources, the other cheaper, smaller Xbox One variant will be the smallest Xbox ever made and is scheduled to ship this August with a redesigned controller.
The Verge: Xbox One slim rumored for E3 and more powerful console expected in 2017.
Sources tell The Verge that the smaller, cheaper Xbox One mentioned by Kotaku will be 40 percent smaller than the current Xbox One and likely support 4K video playback.
CNET: Microsoft may launch two TV streaming devices at E3.
During a video podcast, tech journalist Brad Sams claims that Microsoft is "going to be announcing at least two streaming devices at E3." He describes one of them as a streaming media stick the size of a Google Chromecast for around $100, and the other as a $150 to $175 Apple TV competitor which could play lightweight games.
He also says that Microsoft is experimenting with bringing the Xbox interface to Windows PCs as a replacement for the old Windows Media Center, and that Microsoft may be planning another Xbox for next year with 4K video playback.
The Verge adds that Microsoft has "long been experimenting with a Chromecast-like device that would allow you to stream Xbox One games from a main console in a living room to a second TV elsewhere in a house."

Xbox One S isn’t a significant upgrade over the Xbox One, but does provide some cool benefits. Owners now have access to HDR support and a 4K blu-ray player, something PS4 Pro sorely left out.
To put things simply, if you already own the original console there isn’t much incentive to upgrade. Sure, there’s the addition of HDR and 4K blu-ray support, but you’ll need an impressive 4KTV to make any use of these features.
If you don’t already own one, though, it’s definitely worth considering a purchase. However, with Xbox One X out now, it makes things a little more complicated. TrustedReviews has broken down everything you need to know about the two consoles below, for anybody considering picking it up.
Xbox One S Price: How much should you pay?
With the Xbox One now discontinued and Microsoft continuing with the two main consoles of One S and One X, the One S has become significantly cheaper. Bundles are available for as littles as £200, which could go lower in sales.
Xbox One S is 40% smaller with built-in power supply.
The Xbox One S is 40% smaller than the original – a considerable reduction. Given that the original Xbox One is a chunky machine – at 333mm x 276mm x 78mm, it dominates the comparatively slight PS4 – this is an important change. However, PS4 Slim gives Xbox One S a run for its money in terms of sheer dimensions. Plus the power supply is now built-in.
So, 40% smaller and no bulky power supply? That’s a pretty big tick in favour of the Xbox One S.
4K Ultra HD, 4K Blu-ray and High Dynamic Range support.
Arguably the standout feature for Xbox One S. Not only does the Xbox One S support 4K video playback from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, it’s also a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. This makes the $299/£249 starting price excellent value compared to dedicated Ultra HD players currently available.
Our testing suggests the Xbox One S is a more than competent Ultra HD Blu-ray player, so AV fans should hold no fears in that regard.
While the original Xbox One is technically capable of supporting 4K gaming and video, it has an HDMI 1.4a port, meaning it can only output 4K at 30Hz, which is very limiting. The Xbox One adds support for HDMI 2.0a, so it now supports proper 4K 60Hz output.

Xbox One S has a slight performance bump.
Much like PS4 Pro, the Xbox One S is not the beginning of a new console generation, but an expansion of a platform we already know and love. But it does offer a very slight improvement over its predecessor.
The Coalition head Rod Fergusson revealed to Polygon that his team had taken advantage of additional raw GPU and CPU power for Gears of War 4 , to improve frame rates. Ferguson claimed his engineers have been able to, as Polygon puts it, “leverage the additional power to reduce the frequency of the frame rate or resolution penalties.”
A Microsoft spokesperson then confirmed, via The Verge, “We have the same SoC architecture as Xbox One today.
“For games that want to take advantage of HDR, we gave developers access to a small amount of additional processing power.”
Overall though, don’t expect games to look noticeably different on Xbox One S to Xbox One thanks to the additional power, instead only getting minor stability improvements.
Xbox One S can upscale games to 4K.
The upscaling capabilities of the Xbox One S were revealed by Jeff Henshaw, Group Program Manager at Xbox at an E3 session .
Henshaw said: “It’s not native 4K, but the Xbox One S can upscale games from 1080p to 4K.”
It means the Xbox One S will be able to offer gaming at a higher resolution than its predecessor, although it won’t quite be as good as native 4K.
In our review, we found the Xbox One S is good at upscaling games and 4K video content – better than the TV we tested on.
It can be stored upright.
That’s great news, though the stand is an optional extra, unless you buy the 2TB model, which includes a stand.
There’s no dedicated Kinect port.
Not a huge surprise, given its increasing irrelevance, though owners who want to use Kinect can do say via a USB adapter. The adapter is sold seperately and can be ordered directly from Microsoft. Don’t expect any new Kinect games on the horizon, though.
But there is an IR blaster.
In the place of a dedicated Kinect port, the Xbox One S comes with an integrated IR (infrared) blaster. That means you can configure your Xbox One S to turn on other devices, like your TV, audio/video receiver, and cable or satellite receiver.
The idea is that you can reduce the number of remotes you need to control your stuff.
New controller adds Bluetooth.
Not content with the already excellent Xbox One controller, or the incredible Xbox One Elite Controller, Microsoft’s unveiled the Xbox One S controller as well.
The pad has a new textured grip, exchangeable colour covers, extended range and – most importantly – now has Bluetooth so you can use it with a PC wirelessly.
Xbox One S vs Xbox One: Should you upgrade?
There’s no doubt the new Xbox One S is a better all around console than its predecessor. Not only does it slim down the original console’s bulky frame, the Xbox One S comes with a load of features that make a far more desirable device.
Firstly, you get a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Currently, those things will cost you upwards of £400 on their own. Secondly, you can stream 4K at the proper 60 Hz in HDR from apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video. Plus, there’s even a slight performance boost. The console benefits from extra processing power, too.
It probably isn’t worth it for most Xbox One owners if you don’t care about 4K video, but it looks like a good upgrade if you fancy getting into Ultra HD Blu-ray. And if you don’t already own an Xbox One, the smaller size and great features make it very tempting indeed.
But what about Xbox One X?
While at the tail end of 2016 the choice between the two consoles seemed like a no-brainer, as we move closer the the supposed “holiday 2017” launch date of the Xbox One X, the proposition becomes even trickier. There’s still so much we don’t know about Microsoft’s all-powerful machine – most importantly, how much it will cost – but the fact this unit will represent a significant upgrade over anything that has come before it means that the idea of buying an Xbox One as a first-time buyer now becomes a bit of a tough sell.
With Microsoft fully unveiling the Xbox One X at E3, it’s now easier decide whether you’re willing to wait for the next big thing.

Microsoft’s new Xbox One S revealed in leaked images.
In less than 24 hours, Microsoft will host its E3 press conference. The software maker is expected to launch a smaller, slimmer version of the Xbox One, and a fresh leak on the NeoGAF forums today is providing our first look at the new console. Sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans had previously told us that the new Xbox One "Slim" would be 40 percent smaller, and the leaked image appears to show a smaller Xbox One in white.
Alongside the image of the console, some specifications are also listed. Microsoft appears to be introducing a 2TB version of the Xbox One S, with support for 4K video playback, and High Dynamic Range (HDR). The image also notes a new "vertical stand" and "streamlined controller," so the new Xbox One S won't need to sit horizontally anymore. Ekim, another poster at NeoGAF has also revealed exactly what the vertical Xbox One S looks like thanks to another leaked image. Ekim also claims the power supply for the Xbox One S is built-in, a first for a recent Xbox console. There's no details on the "streamlined controller," but the leaked images simply show a refreshed white version. We're expecting to hear a lot more about the Xbox One S at Microsoft's press conference tomorrow. A Microsoft spokesperson provided the following statement on the leaks:
