Xbox One Headset Compatibility.
All headsets that are Xbox 360 compatible require a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable such as the PS4 Talkback Cable to connect to the Xbox One Controller for chat. If you have an older Xbox One Controller that does not have a 3.5mm headset jack, you will also need to purchase a Headset Audio Controller or Headset Audio Controller Plus .

2. Raise the Headset volume to preferred level.
3. Adjust the Headset chat mixer to preferred level. NOTE: moving the bar to the center is recommended. Moving it all the way to the right or left will disable game audio or chat audio, respectively.
4. Adjust the Mic monitoring volume to preferred level.

I have the X31 headset, it has the 2.5mm jack but i dont see it listed here anywhere.. please help.

For connecting the X12 to the XBOX 1, if we have an audio controller, can we use any 3.5 mm cable, or does it have to be the one shown in the picture?
Sorry for the confusion, your model is older but was succeeded by the X32. It shares the same kind of setup and use. Please follow those details and instructions for your X31.
Does this persist? The Recon 30X is a chat model only, so remember you will not be getting game sound/menu music with this.
You will want to use the one picture here. While the 3.5mm connection is standard, the wiring is different for use. You need a cable like ours, which is handling audio and microphone. If you use just a base 3.5mm cable, you may not have microphone use.

I think I figured it out. When you insert the headphones , don't push it all the way into the controller, let it slide thru and it'll stop , give it like 4 secs, then push it all the way in, works for me every time now, could hear the audio.

Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One.
Headsets can only be connected to the Xbox One Wireless Controller. They can’t be connected to third-party wired controllers. The Xbox One console does not feature Bluetooth functionality. Headsets cannot connect to the console using Bluetooth.

If you have an Xbox One Wireless Controller with a 3.5-mm port, you can connect a headset with a standard 3.5-mm jack directly to the controller. No matter what kind of Xbox One Wireless Controller you have, you can connect the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to your controller by plugging it into the rectangular expansion port on the bottom of your controller. You can then connect a compatible 3.5-mm audio jack to the stereo headset adapter.
Some third-party products come with a stereo headset adapter that may look different from the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter made by Microsoft, but they all function the same way. You can only connect an Xbox 360 Chat Headset using the stereo headset adapter with a 2.5-mm to 3.5-mm converter, which comes with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter. The Xbox One Stereo Headset does not include this adapter cable.
Press the chat audio button on the stereo headset adapter until you hear only chat audio. (The chat audio button is in the lower-left corner of the adapter as you hold your controller.)
If you have a stereo-chat headset, connect it to the audio output on your TV, monitor, or console. You can use the controls on the headset to control the audio volume. The two main types of connectors are RCA cables and the S/PDIF optical audio cable .
Stereo headset with RCA cables.
Plug the RCA cables from the headset or the headset’s base station into the audio-out ports on your TV. (The end of the RCA cables include a cylinder housing with a thin pin extending from the center.)
Your TV must have either RCA audio output connectors or a 3.5-mm headphone output. If you use the 3.5-mm headphone jack, you’ll need to buy a 3.5-mm mini-to-RCA adapter cable. The Xbox One Stereo Headset and several other gaming headsets use a single 3.5-mm audio cable for both chat and gaming. These headsets plug directly into the stereo headset adapter. Other gaming headsets use two 3.5-mm audio cables. Typically, one cable has a green jack. This jack is used for game audio. The other cable has a pink jack. This jack is used for chat audio on a PC. These headsets may include an adapter that combines both. However, not all of these cables use the CTIA headset standard. This can compromise performance and quality. Stereo headset with S/PDIF (optical) audio cable.
Plug the headset’s S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) optical cable into the back of your TV, monitor, or console. (The S/PDIF cable plugs into a rectangular port on your TV.)
Not all 3.5-mm audio jacks are made to the same standard. There are two audio jack standards:
Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP).
If you use an OMTP headset, you’ll probably experience audio or chat issues. However, if your headset or earbuds use the OMTP standard, you can purchase an adapter to convert the device to CTIA. These adapters are available at many electronic retail stores.
The following images show the differences in the CTIA and OMTP standards. The CTIA standard has the microphone section of the jack closer to the end of the cable while the OMTP standard has the ground section of the jack closer to the end of the cable.

Mad Catz Tritton Warhead headset Mad Catz Tritton Primer headset (Mad Catz offers an adapter for the Primer headset to convert the 2.5-mm audio jack to a 3.5-mm audio jack. Contact Mad Catz for support.) The Xbox 360 Wireless Headset and Xbox 360 Wireless Bluetooth Headset Headsets with this 2.5-mm connector will not work because of the connector format. This connector includes a long, cylindrical pin in the middle of the connecting side that does not fit into the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

How To : Use Your Xbox 360 Headset with Your Xbox One Controller.
The new Xbox One has yet to implement compatibility with third-party headsets, meaning for now, you're stuck using one of the official Xbox One headsets available. However, many have run into problems with the included wired headsets, and would much rather use the expensive third-party ones they already have for the Xbox 360.
Since the Xbox One controllers use a USB adapter, the Xbox 360 headsets you have, including ones by Turtle Bay and Tritton, simply won't work. But instead of throwing them out or letting the dust accrue, you can actually splice the wires of your favorite Xbox 360 headset to the USB connector of new junk Xbox One headset to make it work.
You will need a wire cutter and stripper, the Xbox One headset, an Xbox 360 headset, and electrical tape. Basically, you just cut and strip the wires of the Xbox 360 headset near the jack, and cut the Xbox One headset's jack off and strip the wires on that, then splice the two together. The most important part is making sure to connect the correct wires to its correct counterpart.
If you have an older third-party Xbox 360 headset, this is how the wires should be paired.
If you have newer Xbox 360 cables, this may be an alternative.

Xbox 360 Headsets May Work With Xbox One.
Xbox One won't bundle a headset in the box, but Microsoft is seeking a way to let Xbox 360 headsets work with the new console's controller. The sometimes-reliable Xbox Support stated on Twitter this week that the company was looking into an adapter that enable cross-generational functionality, which Microsoft has confirmed to IGN.
"Xbox plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio," an Xbox representative told IGN. “The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console. This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input."
Indeed, it seems your Xbox 360 headset will be compatible with Xbox One after all. It remains to be seen if the solution will come in the box in place of a headset, or be sold separately.

So far we’ve been sticking to wired headphones, but if you are looking for the best wireless gaming headset, then the SteelSeries Siberia 800 (past versions were known as the H Wireless) headset is for you. Frequency: First, the frequency range shows what sounds speakers can produce – all headphones tend to have a broad range, dipping down to the bass range (around 20 Hz at the lowest) and reaching up toward 20 kHz. However, frequency is also measured in terms of response , or how accurately headphones can reproduce sounds at the frequency they should be. Look for headphones that have accurate response throughout as much of the frequency range as possible. Sound Latency: Latency is all about how sound is transmitted. High latency means that sound will be delayed, may jump around, and could speed up or slow down unexpectedly. Good gaming headphones will have low latency. On-Board Features: While this feature may not be the deciding factor, it’s still something to be cognezant of. For instance, separate volume and mic controls on the headset can be great when you need to make quick on-the-fly adjustments. Earcup Size and Materials: You’ll likely be gaming for hours, so you’ll want to ensure that your gaming headset is comfortable. That faux-leather may feel great now, but what if it’s a low-quality material that starts to crack and tear in a year? Foam and gel both tend to affect sound in different ways (gel can enhance bass more easily), but also feel differently on the ear. Preference is important here, but look for thick, highly-quality outer coverings that won’t wear through easily. Wireless or Wired: Wired headphones are less likely to struggle with latency and often have the best sound quality, while wireless headphones offer great range of motion and may be more comfortable. The funny thing about Turtle Beach is that there’s a sharp line between “wireless with surround sound” and “no wireless, no surround sound.” At $120 or less, you probably won’t be able to get a Turtle Beach with surround sound. Wired Xbox 360 headsets will be compatible with the Xbox One via an adapter, Microsoft has confirmed.
"We are working to develop an adapter for current wired headsets to connect," said Microsoft's Xbox Support account on Twitter. "More details as we approach launch."
Earlier this week Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox One wouldn't ship with a headset in the box, with the company saying that the bundled Kinect hardware features its own microphone.
"Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor," said Microsoft, "with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences."
