How do I use Xbox One Backward Compatibility? The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One. For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive. After the game has downloaded to your hard drive, users will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play. Does backward compatibility cost extra? Xbox One Backward Compatibility is free and allows you to play select Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games you already own on Xbox One. Is Xbox Live Gold required for backward compatibility? Xbox Live Gold is not required for Xbox One Backward Compatibility. However, it is required for any standard Xbox Live Gold feature like online multiplayer. Will functionality for the Original Xbox games via Xbox One Backward Compatibility change from the Xbox 360 games in any way? Functionality will be very similar. You can play the digital or disc-based game you own, taking advantage of Xbox One features like Game DVR and broadcasting. Since these are the original games, not remasters, Xbox Live services such as online multiplayer and in-game marketplaces that were available on the Original Xbox, will not be available. However, offline multiplayer scenarios such as co-op, party scenarios (multiple controller on one console), and system-link are supported if they were supported on the Original Xbox. With system-link (if game supports the feature), you can play with others across Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles. There are no Xbox achievements for Original Xbox games because this functionality was not available on the Original Xbox at that time of its release. Lastly, game saves will not transfer to Xbox One but once created on Xbox One, the game saves can transfer to other Xbox One consoles through the cloud. Call of Duty: Black Ops II Now Available via Xbox One Backward Compatibility. The Xbox 360 hits keep coming thanks to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program, and today we’ve got one of the biggest hits of all: Call of Duty: Black Ops II is now playable on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. This blockbuster joins more than 350 Xbox 360 classics available on Xbox One. We’re thrilled with the continued excitement for the program and ongoing engagement of our fans, who have played more than 360 million hours of Xbox 360 games on Xbox One. Fans who own Call of Duty: Black Ops II can play it on Xbox One at no additional cost. If you don’t own it yet, now is a great time to experience this blockbuster. As part of Spring Sale all Xbox fans can save 50% and Xbox Live Gold Members save 60% through April 17. Black Ops II was a big shift for the Call of Duty series, which had previously been set only on generations-old wars and modern day conflicts. In addition to continuing the story of Call of Duty: Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason during the late 1980s Cold War, the game introduces Alex’s son David, who forty years later battles the same foe that tormented his father. This part of Black Ops II , set in 2025, introduces a number of futuristic technologies that has since appeared in a number of Call of Duty games since. In addition to gameplay changes, the traditionally linear Call of Duty story structure saw an update as well. The game’s branching storylines, dictated by the actions of the player during Strike Force missions sprinkled throughout the campaign, changed the game’s ending by tilting its US/China Cold War one way or the other. The fates of a number of key characters are fluid as well, encouraging multiple playthroughs for fans who want to see it all. Even the multiplayer got a bit of an overhaul. Pick 10, a new system within the Create-a-Class menu, offers players 10 slots per class, each of which are used for things like perks, weapons, and grenades. Another new feature was the weapon-specific progression system, which unlocked weapon attachments. Finally, Black Ops II featured the third appearance for the hugely entertaining Zombies mode, giving fans more ways to enjoy the game. As always, we’re continuing to listen to fans and are working with our publishing partners to bring your favorite Xbox 360 titles to our Xbox One catalog so you can continue to enjoy the games you already own at no additional cost. We’ll continue to keep the community updated on when new releases are available. Enjoy Call of Duty: Black Ops II , and stay tuned for more Xbox One Backward Compatibility announcements. And we’re excited for you to be able to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops II via Backward Compatibility on Project Scorpio later this year. Xbox One news: BIG Backwards Compatibility games update, Black Ops 2, Project Scorpio. XBOX ONE news this week includes a new Backwards Compatibility update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, as well as a fresh Project Scorpio reveal. Seven new games have been confirmed for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility. UPDATE TWO : A new list of Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games from the Xbox 360 have been announced for launch by Microsoft today. This includes: Dragon Age Origins, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Battlefield 3, Strania, The Splatters, Scrap Metal and Ghostbusters. It's a big list that boasts some quality titles from the Xbox 360 - Battlefied 3 and Dragon Age Origins being top picks. BF3 has received over 50,000 votes on the official Backwards Compatibility polling website, while DAO boasts over 30,000. Bad Company 2 is also up there, scoring over 40k in user interest but still missing out on the top ten, which has been dominated by Call of Duty titles since the program was first announced in 2015. While it's hard to predict, it wouldn't be surprising if Microsoft follow this launch up with another later this week. Announcements for Microsoft BC program don't have set dates or times, however Tuesdays and Thursdays have bee used a lot in the past and we wouldn't be surprised if new titles are confirmed then. New Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games are being released this week. UPDATE ONE: New Xbox One Backwards Compatibility games are set to be announced and released this week, Microsoft has confirmed. While it hasn't been revealed what new titles will make this debut, it appears that at least one new game will arrive in the coming days. Xbox Platform PM lead Bill Stillwell confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "We plan to resume BC game releases next week. "Lots of misinformation floating around today, none of it real." Bill also revealed why fans are left waiting the majority of time to find out what Xbox 360 classics are being worked on. "Many reasons. For example, the companies that own the rights to the game get to define release announcement plans," he confirmed. Fans have always known that Xbox One Backwards Compatibility relied on the wishes of the original publisher, hence why so many Microsoft titles have been launched so far. Xbox One News: Backwards Compatibility and Project Scorpio updates. Xbox One Backwards Compatibility is one of Microsoft's most popular features and even has its own online gaming poll to help work out what the next title should be. Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is top of that list and appears to be staying there. Over 200,000 have voted for Black Ops 2 to become a Backwards Compatible title and there have been some signs that it could be the crowning jewel for the program. An error back in October 2016 was spotted on an Xbox website that listed the popular COD title as a BC game, soon to be made available. And one fan checking it over appeared to find something very interesting, that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 had been listed as a Deals with Gold offer alongside other titles. Microsoft later confirmed that this was a mistake and the most recent update concerning Black Ops 2 came this week. Xbox’s Larry Hryb was replying to fan on Twitter who posted a screenshot of what appeared to be someone playing the popular shooter on Xbox One. “Nothing is confirmed until I tweet about it. No ETA,” Hryb wrote. “There is no ETA on it. None. Zero. Stop asking. When it's out, I'll let you know. When asked if it was being tested, Hryb added: “I have no idea. When it's available I'll post. Thanks - have a great day.” However, even though Black Ops 2 will not be made Backwards Compatible tomorrow, Hryb didn’t rule out its eventual inclusion. Microsoft just confirmed some of the big figures attached to the launch of the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility and what impact it's had so far. “Xbox One owners enjoyed more than 265 million hours playing Xbox 360 games in 2016, including highly-requested titles like Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: World at War, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Skate 3, via Xbox One Backward Compatibility,” a message from Microsoft confirms. There are now 309 backwards compatible games on the Xbox One and it’s been estimated that it adds up to around 20% of the total Xbox 360 library. Studio Wildcard, developers of ARK: Survival Evolved have confirmed that as soon as they get their hands on an Xbox One Scorpio, they plan to see what they can do with it, including VR. “It looks plenty powerful enough (for VR) to support it and have it look really good, it’s just a matter of getting our hands on the console and seeing what we can achieve with it. “For us we’re still very experimental with Virtual Reality in ARK, I do not think the VR support we have now is anywhere near the final implementation. “It’s quite basic and is something for us to gather feedback to help us work out what to do with it. It’s there for the Oculus Rift and we’re hoping to do something a little different with the Vive. “And whatever Microsoft are doing with The Scorpio is a little further out but it’s definitely going to be on our radar when we get a development unit to start working with.” Related articles. Forza Motorsport 7 Xbox One [MICROSOFT] A neoGAF user posted a new picture from CES 2017, apparently showing an Xbox Scorpio presentation within AMD's Vega/Ryzen booth. Presented as “the new horizon” for 4K gaming and VR, it would appear that these could be the two main selling points Microsoft are looking for focus on for their new console. There is also a computer screen included in the shot portraying a woodland scene, however, it’s hard to tell what game this could be from. The other obvious point to make from this is that the Xbox One Scorpio could also be using the new Vega architecture that is currently being used for the CPU power in the recently launched Ryzen PCs. It’s unclear if this would mean the exact same version that are being used now, but it does bode well for the those hoping that the new Microsoft gaming machine will be able to pack a truly impressive punch. Project Scorpio coupled with a top GPU and CPU chipset would make it an interesting product, based on the specs alone. Most read in Gaming. Black Ops 2 for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility could be found nestled between Black Ops and the Black Op 3 DLC options, along with Call of Duty Classic. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Now Playable On Xbox One With Backwards Compatibility. Last updated by Eddie Makuch on April 11, 2017 at 9:06AM. You are now subscribed. Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the single most-requested Xbox 360 game for Xbox One backwards compatibility on the Xbox Feedback site, was added to the catalog today. Microsoft's Major Nelson confirmed this on Twitter. If you already own the game for Xbox 360, it should show up automatically in your Xbox One game library. If not, you can pick it up right now on your console or through the Xbox Store website. Additionally, the game is included in the Xbox Live spring sale. Black Ops II is not the first Call of Duty game in the Xbox One backwards compatibility library. Others include Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World At War, and the original Black Ops. On the Xbox Feedback site, Black Ops II received more than 213,000 votes from people asking for it to be added to the backwards compatibility catalog, the most of any game. Xbox boss Phil Spencer personally advocated for Black Ops II to come to the library and heavily suggested in the past that its addition to the catalog was a matter of when not if. The Xbox One's backwards compatibility library has more than 320 games in it--you can see them all here. Black Ops 2 Now the Most Wanted Xbox One Backward Compatible Game. As it currently stands, Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the Xbox community's most requested Xbox 360 game to come to Xbox One by way of backwards compatibility. According to Xbox Feedback data, Treyarch's incredibly popular shooter has earned over 77,000 votes, overtaking the prior leader, Red Dead Redemption, which current sits in second place with just over 75,000 votes. Trailing behind in third place is Bethesda's Skyrim, followed thereafter by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Halo: Reach. Here are the current top ten standings: Call of Duty: Black Ops II Red Dead Redemption The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Halo: Reach Call of Duty: Black Ops Gears of War 3 Fallout 3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Mass Effect 3. Xbox One backwards compatibility was announced last month at E3, and is currently available to those in the Xbox Preview program. It will be available to all later this year, supporting over 100 titles at launch with more to follow. Here's the current list of supported games. Xbox One Backward Compatibility update adds Call of Duty Black Ops 2. [UPDATED] Black Ops 2 now available! MICROSOFT has released more backwards compatible games this week on Xbox One, as Call of Duty Black Ops 2 rumours increases from Xbox Spring Sale tease. Xbox One Backward Compatibility update added TWO new games this week. Major Nelson has just confirmed the news online and on Twitter and understandably the Call of Duty Fanbase is going nuts with appreciation after months of requesting. If you want a quick summary of the game here it is: Call of Duty: Black Ops II propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare. If you want to buy the game you can purchase the game online for £19.99 or £15.99 for Gold Subscribers direct from Microsoft's store. However, as with all Backwards Compatible games, if you already own the Xbox 360 disc you can pop it into your Xbox One and start playing. Xbox One Backwards Compatible games. Microsoft added another TWO classic Xbox 360 titles to the ever expanding Xbox One backwards compatibility library this week. As per usual, community manager Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb delivered the news of the new games arrivals on Twitter. And joining the list this week were the following games: Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. Recently Xbox head Phil Spencer had mentioned that one of his "most anticipated" games was coming in the next few weeks, but we suspect that neither of these two titles was what he was referring to. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound as though one of the "good ones tee'd up" for Backwards Compatibility in the next few weeks will be Call of Duty Black Opt 2. That's despite several rumours suggesting it could be revealed before April 11, given that it was the only Xbox 360 game (among several games) included in the trailer for the Xbox spring sale that wasn't currently backwards compatible. There's also been no further Backwards Compatibility news from either Activision or any of the major Xbox heads on the state of Call of Duty Black Ops 2. *** Take a look at some of the best Xbox One Backwards Compatible games, above *** As many might know, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is currently the most requested title for Xbox One's Backwards Compatibility library, with over 210,000 votes in it's favour. Over Christmas, Xbox Head Phil Spencer told fans that the team see the daily requests and fully understand that a lot of people are passionate about seeing the game join the service. When pushed again on the subject, Spencer also reiterated his lack of answers shouldn't be misconstrued as a lack of caring, before saying "I really want to see this come to BC." The situation was updated further last week when Stillwell posted to twitter a rather lengthy note which addressed the state of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, but also, the wider processes involved with bringing a game to the backward compatible program. You can check out Stillwell's post on this separate Daily Star page, as it's too lengthy to distill on this news post. Pokemon GO Easter Event countdown is on as HUGE Shiny Pokemon news is revealed. Overwatch Insurrection Release Time, date, skins and trailer updates. Call of Duty WW2 already has some impressive competition and it's not Battlefront 2. Back to this week's new backwards compatible releases and should own any of the new backwards compatible games added this week, then they should now show up automatically in your Xbox One game library. However, if you don't own them or indeed any of the games previously announced as backwards compatible then there's still hope for you. All you have to do is head over to the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility store on the Xbox store, making it easier than ever to search for and download these classic titles directly on your Xbox One. So if you're interested in trying out a Xbox 360 classic but don't already own a copy of the game, you can still give it a go like everyone else. In 2016 Xbox Head Phil Spencer had also suggested that the team could look at the prospect of bringing original Xbox games into the fold for backwards compatibility in the future. And looking towards the future, Mike Ybarra the Director of Program Management said towards the end of 2016 that this year's new Microsoft console, Project Scorpio, would look to include Backwards compatibility. Writing on Twitter earlier this year Phil Spencer also provided more details on how the backwards compatibility service would work on Project Scorpio, which has been dubbed Microsoft's most powerful console ever created. Hopefully, as we edge closer to the release, which many believe will be at the end of the year, we'll learn more about how these services might work.
