If you ever want to use your Xbox One without connecting to Xbox Live, you can set your console to offline. While offline, your console won't connect to any networks. We recommend that you don't set your console to offline if you experience a network, ISP, or Xbox Live service outage. Are you notified, and it syncs to your profile later when you are online? Do you just miss out on it? You're in luck: the Xbox Engineering team posted about this just today: Achievements Unlocked. The basic idea is that the achievement is added to your local profile, which is marked as dirty. The next time that you connect to LIVE with that profile, it syncs up with the copy of your profile on Microsoft's servers. If you get an achievement offline, it will be transferred to your profile the next time you are online. However, it does not show the date that you earned the achievement. There is some obscure behavior if you recover your profile from different consoles. If you get an achievement while offline in console 1 and then you recover your profile in console 2, when you get your profile back to console 1 you will lose that achievement. I share a modem with my family as well, so I usually hook up the modem for like a minute sometimes to the 360 and sign into xbox live that way my achievements, saved games, etc will be safe with microsoft just incase my 360 decides to break on me, even though if it breaks and you have never connected to xbox live for microsoft to have your latest achievement information you don't have to worry cause everything is pretty much still on your harddrive so you can remove your harddrive and put it on a new 360. And use the same profile(gamertag) when you play offline and online, don't make lots of different profiles and confuse yourself with what games you've played with this profile and with that profile. If you make a name offline and then go online and find out that someone has your "tag" already then it won't let you do it. Any achievements you have obtained up to that point will stay with your offline tag and you will have to create an online tag. What I suggest you do is go to xbox.com and register there, setting up a gamertag already, mirror that tag onto your console and then when you are ready to go online use the "recover gamertag" option to synch the two. I finished GoW in hard mode online, but didn't give me the first two act achievement (neither norm or Hardcore), because I was offline when I completed those!!
