Microsoft continues to deliver big on the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility with three undeniable classics joining its ranks. As of yesterday, owners can play Alan Wake, the arcade port of PAC-MAN, and the timeless masterpiece Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on their Xbox One consoles.
If you don’t yet own Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, what the heck is wrong with you? Get on that right now! As for Alan Wake, you might want to wait as Microsoft is offering it in a slick bundle with developer Remedy’s next big hit, Quantum Break.
Every copy of Quantum Break for Xbox One will come with a full-game download for Alan Wake for Xbox 360, plus its two add-on packs, The Signal and The Writer, playable on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. Fans who pre-order Quantum Break for Xbox One at participating retailers or through the Xbox Store will also receive a full-game download of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare for Xbox 360.
And as for PAC-MAN , it’s a solid port of the arcade original. That’s all there is to say about it. If you need it, then by all means, download it. I’m a bigger fan of PAC-MAN: Championship Edition , which has been available on the Xbox One for quite some time.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Review.
About This Game.
Summary Specifications Features Game Editions.
From the days of the PS one, this downloadable game allows you to play one of the greatest entries in the Castlevania franchise on your PSP handheld system or PS3 home console.
While its retro 2D graphics may have off-put some PlayStation gamers at first, anyone owning a 16-bit system can easily appreciate the greatness of Konami's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Konami took the side-scrolling idea to its fullest in this title. The game's enormous maps, huge range of weapons, constant enemies, and excellent balance all still puts this squarely on the all-time list, no questions asked. Add to that a memorable soundtrack and you have a gothic masterpiece that will serve as a benchmark for many future 2D action titles.
Supported Functions Number Of Players: 1.
Over 140 different enemies 3 different magical spells A variety of hidden weapons and characters.

Top frequently asked questions.
How do I use Xbox One Backward Compatibility?
The digital titles that you own and are part of the Back Compat game catalog will automatically show up in the “Ready to Install” section on your Xbox One. For disc-based games that are a part of the Back Compat game catalog, insert the disc and the console will begin downloading the game to your hard drive. After the game has downloaded to your hard drive, users will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play.
Does backward compatibility cost extra?
Xbox One Backward Compatibility is free and allows you to play select Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games you already own on Xbox One.
Is Xbox Live Gold required for backward compatibility?
Xbox Live Gold is not required for Xbox One Backward Compatibility. However, it is required for any standard Xbox Live Gold feature like online multiplayer.
Will functionality for the Original Xbox games via Xbox One Backward Compatibility change from the Xbox 360 games in any way?
Functionality will be very similar. You can play the digital or disc-based game you own, taking advantage of Xbox One features like Game DVR and broadcasting.
Since these are the original games, not remasters, Xbox Live services such as online multiplayer and in-game marketplaces that were available on the Original Xbox, will not be available. However, offline multiplayer scenarios such as co-op, party scenarios (multiple controller on one console), and system-link are supported if they were supported on the Original Xbox. With system-link (if game supports the feature), you can play with others across Original Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles.
There are no Xbox achievements for Original Xbox games because this functionality was not available on the Original Xbox at that time of its release. Lastly, game saves will not transfer to Xbox One but once created on Xbox One, the game saves can transfer to other Xbox One consoles through the cloud.
Alan Wake, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Pac-Man join Xbox One backward compatibility roster.
And Alan Wake's American Nightmare is being sent to Quantum Break pre-orders.
Microsoft added three Xbox 360 titles to its list of backward compatible games supported on Xbox One, including Remedy's excellent Alan Wake , the legendary Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and arcade classic Pac-Man .
Alan Wake compatibility arrives just in time for the release of Remedy's Quantum Break early next month. Last month, Microsoft announced plans to bundle the titles:
Every copy of Quantum Break for Xbox One will come with a full-game download for Alan Wake for Xbox 360, plus its two add-on packs, The Signal and The Writer, playable on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility. Fans who pre-order Quantum Break for Xbox One at participating retailers or through the Xbox Store will also receive a full-game download of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare for Xbox 360.
That full-game download of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is going out now to those who pre-ordered the game.
Originally released for the original PlayStation in 1997, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was ported to the Xbox Live Arcade platform in 2007. Notably, it was the first Xbox Live Arcade title allowed to exceed the 50 MB cap, an early restriction intended to maintain support for those who purchased the hard drive-less "Core" Xbox 360.
Pac-Man joins Pac-Man: Championship Edition and Pac-Man: Championship Edition DX+ , both of which were included in the initial list of backward compatible titles in November. Here's an up-to-date list of all of the backward compatible titles on Xbox One:

Microsoft is just as useless as Sony, they make promises of backward compatible games but never go through with their promises. I would rather move to Sony and know where you stand than Microsoft.

Don't see your favorite game here? Microsoft has said it is holding discussions with all major publishers and developers to possibly bring their games to the program. However, the decision about whether or not a game is added to the lineup ultimately comes down to individual publishers. There's no guarantee everything will eventually be added.
What do you make of the lineup so far? And what games would you like to see added in the future? Let us know in the comments below!
