The patch is rolling out today, January 30, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it introduces several new pieces of content to the multiplayer survival-horror game, including a new Jason, map, and more. With today's update, IllFonic is adding the Pinehurst map and Jason V from the fifth Friday the 13th film, A New Beginning . Both will be playable in multiplayer and offline with bots. Jason V will be available immediately to all players and can use the following three grab kills: Hedge Trimmer, Last Breath, and You're So Vein. IllFonic has also added a new grab kill, Rugby Player, which can be unlocked at level 108 for 2500 CP. In addition to the new map and Jason, IllFonic has made an assortment of bug fixes and gameplay adjustments. Most notably, the developer has reduced the number of Pocket Knives and Medical Sprays that will spawn during a match. Jason players also now begin the match with two more throwing knives, and Jason's speed and grab range have both been "slightly increased." You can find the full patch notes for the latest Friday the 13th update, courtesy of the game's official forums, below. Stalk camp counselors across Crystal Lake as Jason Voorhees, or assume the role of a helpless camper and attempt to survive the night. The multiplayer component to the game pits one player as Jason against up to seven people as counselors. While Jason can be an immensely daunting, seemingly unstoppable force, he is able to be brought down with an ‘epic’ win condition. It’ll be difficult, require some teamwork, and perhaps a bit of ingenuity, but we’ll be giving you the tools and opportunities to realize the biggest win in horror gaming. That sense of relief at the end, knowing you stopped the biggest and baddest killer in the world is not something to take lightly . and lest you be worried, Jason will always come back for more! Play as Jason Voorhees - The game you’ve been waiting for; you’ll be stalking the shadows and picking off each and every counselor as the most feared name in horror, Jason Voorhees! When playing as Jason, you make the decision of how to go about setting up and performing each kill! The game gives you a slew of abilities to terrify, harass and then brutally dispatch those opposing you. Counselors: Fight or Flight - Jason is deadly, but he can be stopped! The movie does have to end, right? You and your fellow counselors will have a multitude of ways to escape from Jason while in Camp Crystal Lake. Not satisfied with simply running? You’ll have the opportunity to try and take Jason out. Be warned, Jason won’t go down easy, and nothing is a sure thing. Make Your Own Horror - Camp Crystal Lake, Jason Voorhees and a lot of horny teenagers makes for a lot of good stories. A ‘Movie Trailer’ system plays at the end of the match, highlighting the best moments of every game, in the style of the original 1980’s trailers! Each and every time you play Friday the 13th, you’ll be creating your own little movie. Share your best trailers online with others, or watch the community's dark, grisly, or even hilarious trailers. Fear System - Jason Voorhees strikes fear into every single person he comes across, and while many bravely attempt to take him on, most fail. The fear of never knowing where Jason is at any given time is powerful, and counselors will have to do everything they can to mitigate that fear while playing. Get too struck with fear and you’ll start to question what’s real and what isn’t. Progression - Friday the 13th is a long-running franchise, one with a whole cast of characters. Players will get a unified progression system to unlock multiple Jason character models from the classic films, as well as additional Camp Counselors with their own unique stats and traits. All user reviews. UNBIASED AND TRUTHFUL (AS POSSIBLE) REVIEW. Let me start off by saying that, yes, this game is plagued with bugs, server issues, and crashing. Somehow it manages to bypass these issues with really fun and challenging asymetrical multiplayer. It might be the lore or the fact that this game brings you together with friends in a way I haven't experienced before but you will enjoy yourself even with these issues the game has. I don't want to excuse the developers for releasing an unfinished game but try not to listen to the lower rated reviews for this game because they're written by people who can't provide pros and cons. This game has many cons but there are a lot of pros as well and if your thinking about buying just understand what the game is right now and if that doesn't bother you then go ahead do it or if you want to wait for a game with less issues then wait for future patches. Choice is yours! 287 out of 312 people found this helpful. When it's fixed 5 star easy. this game had a seriously rough start still has alot of bugs but servers are working now and when you can play there's no game more fun in my opinion. the game looks great the concept is spot on.. this game is everything Evolve wanted to be seriously fun everybody verses the monster. and when the monster is Jason Voreese the unstoppable killer of camp counselors it just Kills. every game is scary and funny at the same time, if Game of the Year was elected by how fun it is. and they iron out all the bugs this game would be my pick hands down Gun Media, and Illfonic two small Development teams should be commended for the hard work they put in over the long weekend to get the game working and for keeping everyone up to date on how things were coming along. The big triple A developers could learn a thing or two when they release their broken games. Keep up the good work Gun Media and Illfonic 👏👏👏👍 349 out of 389 people found this helpful. Fun, but needs work. The game's great when it works. Right now I'd say 1 out of every 3 games someone gets disconnected. Half the time when I get to play as Jason it crashes. Quickmatch is still not perfect. Sometimes you get in a full room, others it's just you waiting. The game glitches out randomly. You'll get killed in a cabin and end up outside. There are still some exploits that I see people using, but the majority of players are just on to have a good time and want to play fair. The game was probably rushed out because of Dead by Daylight releasing so close to it. It's fun, but is still suffering from a lot of issues. So you're probably thinking 3 stars is a bit generous, but I honestly love everything about the game when it's working. It's a lot of fun when everyone is communicating and working together to try to escape or survive. It's just as fun playing as Jason and trying to kill everyone. Without the problems, I'd give it 5 stars easily. Hopefully the developers work all the kinks out soon. 264 out of 294 people found this helpful. Love this game, except. This is a great game when it works. Between disconnecting games, full game crashes and quick play not working/taking five minutes plus, this game has major issues. But when I can get in a lobby that is stable this game becomes highly addictive. In all, 4 stars with its current state and is a must play. 172 out of 194 people found this helpful. Worth buying! This game deserves a better rating! Ive played this game for a long time now and I just love it. Everytime you play a match. It feels completely different! you never get a match that feel the same because youll never know when jason is coming after you. It can happen at any moment. Youll never know what you will find because sometimes you find the stuff you need in your area but sometimes you dont. Also if you hide. Youll never know if he will find you or not (TIP: stats and perks do matter/help in the game) and youll never know if you be able to Escape or not! Because sometimes jason gets everone and sometimes jason doesnt or sometimes players think for their selves and sometimes they help you. You never know and it gives you a accurate feeling like your in a actual horror movie! Its a actually well bounce game too! but the game does crash sometimes and there are some glitches but youll see them rarely and quick play does work now! The game will continue to get better❤ 102 out of 114 people found this helpful. Servers are nightmare! The game is highly enjoyable, whe you can actually play that is. 4/5 games you'll lag out of because only private matches work so it's the host connection that ultimately decides wether or not you'll get to play. Quick play doesn't work so you have to find a group to play with. Look. I get it. this was a kickstarter game made by a small team of people, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is nearly unplayable, so if you're deciding if you should drop $40 on this game DON'T, wait until they roll out new patches. 237 out of 276 people found this helpful. Great Game, Bad Servers. The game has three different map, a variety of customizable counslers, and a good number of Jasons with different pros and cons. The worst thing about the game is it's servers. Just keep in mind its made by an indie company of 10 people and they're trying their best to fix the issue. 139 out of 160 people found this helpful. Overall a fun game but still is broken. Great, fun game full of excitement and thrills. It keeps you on edge the entire match and you're constantly looking over your shoulder for Jason. But the real fun comes when you get to be Voorhees, teleporting right next to your friend and punching their head off is quite the experience. However, this game can sometimes be relatively annoying due to terrible glitches, bugs, broken abilities, and most importantly the servers. 54 out of 60 people found this helpful. 5 Stars. Why. This game has many issues that need to be fixed. The most common issue is the insane amount of crashes that you go through. Now you're probably wondering why I gave this game 5 stars if it has a lot of issues. I think that if you have patience and can get pass the bugs and crashes then you will absolutely love this game. It's thrilling, scary and always keeps the heart pumping. Friday The 13th is everything you want it to be. Props to Gun Media and ILLFonic for such a piece of art and great support. These devs actually listen. 👍🙂🙂 405 out of 490 people found this helpful. Addicting but annoying. This game would get a 5 stars for the variety of Counslors and Jasons, not to mention the thrill and horror feel to the game is amazing but far too often I or the host of the game gets lagged out or you get kicked from the game for connection issues when there are none which makes trying to enjoy the game very difficult and tedious. otherwise the game is phenomenal with thrills at every turn and a constant fear of being found that makes your heart stop with countless ways of escaping. fix the connectivity issues and you have a 5 star game (very good community as well) 102 out of 119 people found this helpful. Friday the 13th game xbox one

by Garrett Glass. In Friday the 13th: The Game , you can play as either Jason or a camp counselor. As much as I’d like to continue such roleplaying into my review, I just can’t. For the first few days, I felt less like a camp counselor isolated from society thanks to a madman determined to kill me and more like an alienated camper who wants to participate in the group activities and is not sure if he’ll just want to go home when he gets the chance. Fortunately, as the Gun Media has addressed the issues surrounding the game, I found myself wanting to participate more and more as time went on. Initially, my Friday the 13th: The Game review was going to be much harsher, due to its disastrous launch. For the first few days, the game’s servers were overwhelmed by eager, unassuming camp counselors; ergo, I didn’t have many opportunities to play. Thankfully, they’ve fixed it since then, but I’m still hesitant to recommend people buy the game immediately while the team is still fixing issues, some of which are specific to PC and consoles. To its credit, Gun Media has been actively updating their social media pages with explanations for the causes and solutions for every known issue. Still, this is the problem with multiplayer-only games. Although a single player mode is planned for later this summer, it would have been nice to have that option available at launch. Part of your enjoyment of Friday the 13th: The Game depends on what you look for in an online multiplayer game. If you prefer to run and gun as a lone wolf, then it is, for the most part, not for you. Before each round, you have two character slots: one for a counselor and one for your favorite iteration of Jason. Because a game contains up to 8 players and not all of them can be Jason, chances are you’re going to wait a while before your turn comes up. Playing as Jason is a cathartic release, not because I’ve always wanted to play as him, but rather because playing a counselor can be rather dull. As a counselor, you have a few options for escaping camp: you can phone the police, repair a car or boat, survive for 20 minutes, or kill Jason if you’re able. Of course, it’s not as simple as it seems. Both the car and phones are missing components and must be repaired before the players can use them. This means that most of the time you’ll be running from cabin to cabin, opening drawers until you find the items you need. Having a mic is handy, because you can ask your fellow doomed cast members if they’ve found certain items yet and coordinate how the majority of you will escape this round. (Keep in mind, a car only seats four people.) Even after you’ve secured a route, Jason can ambush you at any turn. He can stand in front of the car, stopping it in its tracks, and the police will be powerless to stop Jason even though they might just be right across a bridge. Thankfully, you can set up a variety of traps, and you can assume a combat stance for a chance to stun him if you’ve exhausted all options. Both the counselors and Jason can level up, which is good because it has an effect on the likelihood of surviving or winning. For instance, you can increase your ability to repair vehicles, giving Jason less time to thwart your escape. Unfortunately, you have to stay until the very end of each game to earn experience, and while this is a good way to stop people from rage quitting, it certainly makes playing as a counselor feel like a grind. If you die early in the round, you could find yourself waiting a dozen or more minutes until the next round, although you might be lucky to return as Tommy Jarvis. But this is what I’m talking about when I say there are a lot of dull moments in Friday the 13th: The Game : your average game might be nothing more than an uneventful scavenger hunt or a rude reminder that, yes, you would be the first of your friends to die in a horror movie. Why you shouldn't buy 'Friday the 13th' for Xbox One (at least for now) Updated July 27, 2017: A new patch has released for the Xbox One version of Friday the 13th, with bug fixes and tweaks for a majority of issues seen at launch. Late last week "Friday the 13th: The Game," a survival horror game based on the acclaimed franchise, released across console and PC. With influence from the feature films, the game takes advantage of asymmetrical multiplayer mechanics to pit Jason Voorhees against seven Camp Crystal Lake counselors. Using a similar core concept to games like "Evolve," one player takes control of the all-powerful killer while the remain seven must use the open world to survive by any means necessary. After acquiring the rights to produce an officially-licensed game, Friday the 13th soon gained a fair amount of traction via crowdfunding sites. Between its Kickstarter and BackerKit listings, the game accumulated more than two million dollars in funding, drawing only more attention to the project going forward. With over twelve thousand backers on the Kickstarter alone, it's fair to say a reasonable amount of people are invested in the project. Xbox One owners are running an older (and inferior) version of the game. Now the release day has come and gone, Friday the 13th's launch has gone far from smoothly. Server issues have rendered matchmaking useless, a slew of bugs disrupt the core gameplay and at this point, opinions on the game are rather mixed. Even the game's distribution on Xbox One ended up being rather chaotic – going live on the console hours after the expected launch. Since these launch issues, it's now come to light that Friday the 13th's Xbox One owners are running an older (and inferior) version of the game. As pointed out by a user on the official Friday the 13th forums, both PC and PlayStation 4 versions currently sport different assets and even some minor new features, leaving the Xbox One version as a clearly second-rate version. Founder and Creative Director at Gun, Wes Keltner, has since confirmed the game is yet to receive an approved day one patch, which brings the game up to a state they planned for launch. Although some of these issues may have been out of the developer's control, the game isn't rocking the best reputation right now. Overall, Friday the 13th has suffered a messy release – and that not even touching on the gameplay it offers. There's an understandable amount of anger in the air from Kickstarter backers, as well as those who picked up the full-priced title at launch. And with the recent news of the Xbox One version, it's probably best to keep your distance until fixes have been rolled out. Nevertheless, among these issues, it's reassuring to see the official Friday the 13th Twitter account active with status updates and support over the past few days. While some developers essentially go into hiding after a rough launch, it's nice to see a clear line of communication established with fans. This doesn't excuse the launch issues, but at least keeps players in the loop for what's to come. According to the developer, the day one patch for the Xbox One version is currently undergoing certification from Microsoft. The patch has the potential to bring Xbox One owners onto a version similar to that on PlayStation 4 and PC and should fix several outstanding issues. Server tweaks are also supposedly on the way, which should elevate some of the problems currently plaguing all platforms. For now, we'll simply have to wait and see how the game changes in the coming days – which really sucks because the game has true potential. But in its current state, Friday the 13th is one to avoid. And while it may be best to hold out for the forthcoming patch, don't forget self-service refunds recently hit the Xbox Store. Products. All Categories. Appliances. TV & Home Theater. Since its launch last week, Friday the 13th: The Game has suffered a number of technical issues across all platforms. Even though the game has had problems on all systems it’s available on, the Xbox One version seems to have been neglected more than others, missing the day one patch that the PC and PS4 versions enjoyed. Illfonic and Gun Media have since released a significant patch for the game on Xbox One that addresses a long list of issues. Perhaps the most notable change to the Xbox One version of Friday the 13th: The Game in its latest update is its improvements to matchmaking. According to the patch notes, players should be able to find online matches faster than they were able to before. Those that have been frustrated by Friday the 13th: The Game ‘s matchmaking issues on Xbox One should rest assured that there are plans to continue improving on it in the future as well, with Illfonic partnering with Microsoft to speed up the matchmaking process even further. Along with the improvements to matchmaking, the latest update for Friday the 13th: The Game on Xbox One addresses many glitches and other problems with the game. Among other things, the patch fixes issues with the repair mini-game, boat physics, weapons not firing, characters getting stuck in objects, and more. Besides these improvements to the game’s performance, the latest patch also adds some things to Friday the 13th: The Game . For example, female characters have movable hair now and Tommy Jarvis has a new cinematic introduction when he spawns. These additions to Friday the 13th: The Game along with the bug fixes make this update rather substantial for the Xbox One version and should go a long way in bringing it closer to other versions of the game. Having said that, it’s clear that Friday the 13th: The Game still has a long way to go. Hopefully Illfonic and Gun Media continue to support it with patches and updates for the Kickstarter backers that helped make it a reality and the fans that have purchased it since launch.
